After years of living in the same apartment, a busy job and a fleeting infatuation with kimonos that I no longer wear, my closet was in need of serious weeding.  I couldn't find anything. I got mad in the mornings when I clawed though hangers looking for that shirt or that dress. Tank tops, camisoles and sundresses were stacked atop each other -- all on the same hanger. There were stilettos I hadn't worn since the aughts, boots with broken zippers that I swore I would get fixed -- someday. There were velvet clutches and sequened skirts that I seriously don't know why I bought -- and so much more.  I was ready for some major decluttering. And I knew I needed help.  Enter Pooja and her no-nonsense, slightly tough-love awesomeness. Fueled by a real desire to get rid of lots of stuff, Pooja made the dreaded decluttering job easy and fun. I sipped a little pinot, she played a little booty music and together, we started emptying everything from the closet, top to bottom. There were dresses I wear weekly, button-downs I frankly forgot I had and a pair of black leathery pants that I SWORE I lost long ago. They even fit -- mostly. We went through items one by one, dividing everything into keep, discard and donate piles. Most of the decisions were easy, but when it came to clothing I was on the fence about, she let me take my time and helped me work through tough choices. She allowed me come to my own conclusions by asking questions about why I wanted to keep a shirt of jacket, reasoned with me that I had other dresses, for instance, that were similar or nicer and reminded me that some items were just past their prime, pointing out they were faded or that stain under the arm was never going away.  With her guidance, we sifted through two closets and 10 years worth of collected clothing quickly and without stress.  The downside was that the emptier my closet became, the more my living room began resembling a landfill piled with trash bags of giveaway clothes. My biggest hesitation about working with an organizer was the dread of dealing with all the discarded stuff. I got more overwhelmed with each bag added to the donation pile. I shouldn't have worried. Pooja took care of that as well. After explaining the bags would never fit in my roller-skate-sized car -- and I didn't have the time or energy to make several trips to Goodwill -- she had the solution. With a few taps on her phone, she had a colleague on the line who agreed to cart away everything for a small fee. We were expecting pickup the following morning, yet her hauler-of-stuff was at my door an hour later. I would have paid her double for her quick work in clearing the living room landfill. By the end of the day, the bags was gone and I felt satisfied every time I looked in the closet. Heck -- I even opened the doors a few times just to marvel at the neatly organized sections -- dresses, sweaters and jackets  -- all divided by color. Even if I tried decluttering on my own, the closet still wouldn't look as neat and organized as it does because of Pooja. Pooja helped me more in my first three hours with her than I was able to do by myself in three years! I had anxiety about the clutter in my house and I researched several organizers and what stood out to me on her website was that she mentioned "special needs" such as chronic disorganization, life transition, adhd, etc. Although I don't have adhd, I have always struggled with organization and we moved to a new larger home three years ago. I thought it would be easy to organize in a larger home, but it was intimidating and downright stifling. Pooja and I talked on the phone. I was open with her about my thoughts and my struggles and showed her pictures of my space. I highly recommend telling her what is in your mind so she knows what your specific struggles and needs are. She arrived and we dove right in. I was slow and anxious at first, but she had the perfect balance of leading the process but kindness when I had a hard time. After about the first two hours, I could not believe that so much of the clutter I was anxious about for three years was done! Poof! Stuff either went in a donate box, a trash bag, or was put away in the spot in the house it belonged in. I honestly can not say enough about Pooja and the progress we made in my home! I had an organizer come to my house several years before and I told that person which room I needed help in, but she immediately went to other rooms and started saying what she wanted to re-do. I told that organizer that those spots didn't cause me anxiety, I only needed her help certain spots. That was a turn-off and Pooja did not do that. She basically said she was not there to fix what wasn't broke, she was there to help ME with the areas I needed help with. I really appreciated that. One thing that Pooja did was at the end of each session, she made a list of "homework" for me and I had to do those steps before our next visit. This was the direction I needed. Then I reported to her my progress with each homework step. I never knew what to do before on my own, so I needed her direction and instructions. A friend of mine hired an organizer once and that person was slow and had no real method and my friend thought it was a waste of money. I am telling you, every dollar I paid to have Pooja come was worth every penny! She has the perfect balance of guiding, directing, and firmness, but also understanding. She didn't "make" me get rid of stuff I didn't want to, but she encouraged me to part with some stuff when she could tell I didn't really know why I was keeping it. I am not rich by any means, and I know some people think organizers are a waste of money. Well, they are if they don't do it right. But with the anxiety my clutter was causing me, I couldn't afford NOT to have Pooja come. I would recommend her to anyone. It's scary to choose an organizer because you don't want someone coming in and taking longer just to get more money, or worse, not doing any progress at all and wasting your time and money. I work from home and needed help turning my laundry room into more of a work space/studio. I have been trying to accomplish this myself for MONTHS, but I would become so overwhelmed I woudn't get anywhere. We had recently moved from a duplex to a single floor unit when I called Organizing with You. I had no idea how to begin tackling all the unpacking, and was paralyzed with the mountains of boxes and stuff everywhere. What a great idea... Organizing With You helped me to take my boxes and boxes of bills, medical records, receipts, etc from the past (eek) 5 years (?) and shred, sort, and organize everything! I now have a great system set up so that even someone as completely unorganized as me can easily file and sort papers. I had the good fortune to meet Pooja when she led a 1 hour Dabble class back in 2013. I learned so many valuable organizing strategies in that one hour that I took lots of notes and hired her to help my parents get going on some projects at their house. I have used the ideas from my notes for several years to help make my home and life more organized.
