I had my closets installed seven years ago (seems so long now). While I am overall happy with the design, I felt the organization aspect needed more attention. Overdue post about our fabulous visit from Kaye in December! We are in a 2-bedroom condo with 2 kids. Right before I went back to work after maternity leave, we switched bedrooms with the kids and I just never got a chance to really organize anything in there after our somewhat hasty room swap. And with two kids, I soon realized I'd never find the time to do it. Kaye came over for 4 hours in the girls' rooms and organized toys and clothes and books, and, well, everything that wasn't furniture! Even things I thought I had organized, she did better. I was pleasantly surprised by a job well done by Chaos to Order's organizer Pam. I have to say, I was not super excited for my appointment because I knew there was a lot of work to be done. Also being in the city, we have very limited space and I didn't see how things could get much better. Then Pam arrived. Her take charge attitude and excited nature instantly lit me up and I was ready to get to work. She is very passionate about what she does and you can tell. We recently moved in to our new apartment and I was embarrassed to show her the closet that I wanted to tackle. She didn't blink an eye and seemed excited about the challenge. The closet was a complete mess...FULL of stuff, including all of my son's toys which I had been trying to organize for over a year. My ultimate goal was to get my son's toy closet organized and that we did (in a little over an hour) and now there is a place for everything. He loves to go in and look through all of his toys (now that he can see them) and even helps me put them back, which is a big step for a 3 year old. She also was very creative in helping me get a system set up in my living room for all of my son's trains, some blankets, and for our coat closet. It was great to work with Pam. I have mixed reviews for Chaos to Order. I was very daring and chose a three session package, because I knew I had more than three hours worth of work to do to get my place in shape. I am an artist and a crafter and my place runneth over with supplies, paints, fabric, lots of fabric, and other stuff of my trade. The first day was great. My organizer showed up on time and immediately set to work organizing my kitchen. She suggested that I get rid of all of my plastic and paper bags. So, off they went to the grocery store for recycling--every last one of them. She had great suggestions for rearranging my art area. She gave me assignments for editing my fabric stash and a couple of storage items to shop for. I shopped, bought, and edited. By the time she came for our second session, I had tons of fabric, ready to donate to a local immigration organization, and my storage items were purchased. Some of her actions sort of mystified me--for instance, she organized my kitchen junk drawer and my drawer of plastic wrap and aluminum wrap type stuff simply by switching the contents from one drawer to the other, but--it didn't bother me, and maybe there was some great reason why she did this that I didn't understand, being the chaotic type. Okay. I went with it. Anyway, second time. I think my chaos was sort of wearing on her. I'm not a hoarder by any means, but I do have a lot of stuff for a one bedroom apartment. I got rid of even more fabric while she was at my place, which is awesome. She wanted me to get rid of clothing. I have a very small closet, but she felt that all of my clothes should fit in my closet and in my dressers--even out of season clothes. In my life, and in my profession, that just ain't gonna happen. She said that all of her clothes all fit in her closet and in her drawers. Apparently she doesn't need dresses, business suits, and maybe she has absolutely no bulky sweaters. She didn't like the fact that my very small folder bike was parked in front of the closet that I stash my fabric in, so she turned to my bookcases, figuring if I got rid of an entire five-shelf bookcase full of books, I could park my bike there and have easy access to my fabric stash. The issue here is that, having my folder in front of the closet door never bothered me. It's a bike. It's on wheels. It rolls out of the way. No BFD. Getting rid of my books so I could park my folder became her obsession. She tried shame, pulling out a random title'--"2001 Cross Stitch Designs???" she whined, "Really?" I wasn't drinking the KoolAid. "Yes. Really. I use that." She put it back. She turned back to my folder, resting her hand on its seat as is she were patting a little lost child on the head. She then started telling me about her crafty little friend, who she was going to see later that day. This nine-year-old's hero was Martha Stewart. The little girl had all of her ribbons organized according to color, and so forth and so on. A few seconds later my organizer turned to my Encycolpedia of Craft. "She would love these," she said, gazing at them longingly. About that time, the woman from the immigrant organization showed up to take my fabric donation. My organizer gamely helped me carry down bin after bin of fabric, and I felt good about that. Then she dashed upstairs, grabbbed her stuff and left. I went back into my living room and realized that a lot of stuff from my closet was all over the place in the living room. I starte putting it away and, glancing at the clock, I realized my organizer had left about 35 minutes before her time was up. When I left feedback expressing some annoyance with the organizer, the manager of the outfit called me right back and was very apologetic. Turns out the organizer had thought she came an hour earlier than she actually did and thought she was working overtime. Easy enough mistake to make and I totally forgive that. I asked for another organizer for the next time anyway. Then life intervened. My mom had an health crisis that will require ongoing care and I needed to move. I thought I had read something on the website about CtO helping people move. when the new organizer showed up, I set her to work packing my kitchen. She gamely started packing away. It turns out though, that they don't actually offer packing service. They offer UNPACKING service. Bless her heart, this kid was really sweet and eager to please, but she didn't know the first thing about packing dishware, small appliances, or anything kitchen related. the first thing she asked for were some plastic or paper bags--the ones the first organizer had told me to completely eradicate from my household. I won't go into details because it's not CtO's fault. I didn't remember the website right. They UNPACK, they don't pack. I just wish she had said something, because that would have saved my having to unpack and repack everything she did. read more

I have mixed feelings about this service. My organizer seemed to struggle with providing advice and recommendations beyond the basics (creating a filing system, etc.) During our visit she frequently said "you have all of the right tools already." My thought was why does my office feel so messy? If you have a major mess maybe this company is for you. If you have a system and are just looking for some help this may not be the service for you. On a positive note, the manager called me after the service to ask how things went and then followed up. She wants to send a second organizer to provide some more help. I'm looking forward to working with someone different to get some more ideas. read more

I had purchased s Groupon for Chaos To Order and decided to use it for my Family Room which is always s mess....due to my own Chronic Health Issues I have somehow lost my organizational skills due to pain;(;(;(......Susan was wonderful.....I can't say enough about her willingness to help me.....she was kind, patient, understanding of my need to have things repeated.......I think that Chaos To Order Is A Great Concept....We are not becoming a paperless society that is for sure....and some people, like me, can't deal with all the clutter;(;(;(,,,, The downside of this service is their charges....$70 per hour.......If you have an organizer, at your house for 4 Hours.....You are going to pay almost $300.... Not including a Tip!!
