I haven't been at OJ's for at least 5 years so happy to be back and enjoy good food and company with friends. We arrived around 4:30 PM and I was surprised how many people were inside. We sat on the half booth and half chairs and it was nice as nobody was seated beside us. During happy hour between 3 to 6 PM they have some deals. I looked at the menu before hand and the fish tacos sounded good so I was happy to see they were on the happy hour menu for three dollars a taco. They also had beef sliders so I was going to get one of those and two tacos but decided just to get tacos since sliders aren't as exciting. The tacos were filled well with vegetables and spiced mahi mahi but a little too much aioli and I didn't use the salsa provided. I devoured my 3 tacos quickly but satisfying. My table mates steak sandwiches and beef dips looked pretty good too. Service was prompt and efficient. So we came in for $5 breakfast, my husband and I said we would like to have that. The waitress said it was $5 brunch. So we chose from the brunch menu. The meals came in. They were okay. The French toast was cold but good servings. The bill came in and it was NOT $5. They did not properly explain this to us and said all they could do is offer gift cards for future visits. I said I would prefer the discount on the breakfast. She then said she would be back. After several moments the manager returned and took off the difference which we much appreciated. The thing I love about Original Joes is that it's always consistent! You know when you are starving but you don't want to risk an epic fail of a meal? Well this is the place to go. I always love the food. They have a huge menu with literally something for anyone. And like I said whether you order the butter chicken, the European double dog, or the Carolina pulled pork sandwich you will have a great meal with lots of food. I like that they have so many sides for any sandwich so you can really customize the meal for yourself. The environment is kind of pub like with numerous TVs everywhere. I hadn't been to Original Joe's for a while and I'm really glad we revisited our old friend. OJs has a good (affordable) bar selection including restaurant branded craft beer. My personal preference is the Red Ale but they're all easy drinking. Cost tip: I'm no math genius but as I see it, per oz. the smaller glass is actually a better deal ($4 for 14 oz vs. $6.5 for 18 oz). My suggestion is have a couple 14 oz glasses and try a few flavours. :) We ordered the turkey club wrap and beef dip. Both meals were satisfying and with the addition of two sides it meant a healthy portion (especially if you order the fries). Service was a little slow but very friendly. Everything we've come to expect from a solid chain restaurant. I'm glad we were reunited with Original Joe's. Next time we won't leave so long between visits. Finally, a random shout out for the restaurant's adoption of the best invention ever! The bathroom door has a step 'n pull. We've been coming to this location of Original Joe's for more than a few years. The food is always good and the service has been consistently good over the years. Today's visit was no different. I'm actually surprised that I hadn't reviewed OJs before now. OJs is an 18+ place, there is no host, it's basically a seat yourself place. Fridays tend to be the busiest day of the week, especially after work. Came in and we seated ourselves. It was a nice summer day and unfortunately the patio was full (to be expected). Grabbed a table and our server was there to drop the menus and ask us for initial drink orders. After a few mins our server was back to take our order. One of my faves is the Kona Burger. Within a few mins of ordering our food was served up. I went with the mashed potatoes and gravy as well. Burger was grilled up perfectly and the mash was hot. We were offered up dessert, but as per usual, the portion sizes are large and it doesn't leave much room for the sweets. Overall, The food is consistently good and with service to match. If you are looking for a bit of comfort food they have that on the menu too. The prices are in line with most others as well. Solid value for what you get and it's usually served up quickly and hot off the grill. We like coming here and it's a repeat fave for us. read more

I've never once had a bad time when I've gone out to ANY of the Original Joe's throughout the Edmonton region, including this one closest to my home in the deep West end. The service is perfect, the food is always great, and the atmosphere is awesome, clean and fresh! They have lots of seating, including patio options, and a full bar with large flat-screen TV's. Great place. Food was really tasty. Love all the different side options and great that you are able to pick two different sides with burger/sandwich. I had the Long Beach Fish Tacos and they were great. The mahi mahi was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Loved that each of the three tacos came with its own lime wedge. As a side I had the quinoa salad and it was also very good. Nice hit of balsamic vinegar. My wife had the beef dip and it was GREAT. Meat was very tasty. Au jus was amazing. I just had dinner which I ordered through Skip the Dishes. I think OJ's has been very affected by COVID and not in a good way. I ordered a double order of the Pacific Rim Noodle Bowl and it was terrible. The broth was so peppered it made me cough. The noodles were hard and I ended up throwing them out The veggie portions were small. No where near as big a portion as when we dined in. I was so disappointed. This was my go to dish when we dined in at OJ's The bruschetta portion was also very small. No where near as much as when you dine in. This is the closest restaurant to my house, but I am not sure we will return once dine in is allowed Feb 8. I hope they improve and fast. read more

There are a lot of things I like about Original Joes. First off, sweet potato fries - their downtown location was the first place in Edmonton that I know of that served sweet potato fries, and they do a great job of it. My husband loves the "double dog" fully loaded which is basically two hot dogs in one bun. The pulled pork sandwich is fantastic. They often have great specials and soups. The only problem we have with the place is that we end up eating too much whenever we go there because they give you a lot of tasty food! My favourite thing about OJ's though is the selection of beer. For an unassuming pub they have a fantastic selection of imported beers and I really like to try something different when I'm there. At this particular location they have a small patio.... the patio does not have beautiful surroundings or cool water features like the downtown location, it just looks onto the parking lot. However, it is still my favourite patio for the far west end (ie outside the Henday) since it faces SW and has lots of good summer drink specials. This is like Original Joe's Jr... Now that's not necessarily a bad thing: At least they have brought their brand out to suburbia and they have some excellent staff. But, it just doesn't have the same feel to it as their flag ship in Glenora. The food is pub-grub good, better then most pubs actually! And the daily specials are sure to please you - at least one day of the week! The one thing I really didn't like though was the lighting. It was quite dark with no small "mood lighting". I could barely see my food, and it's quite isolating to be in a place with that kind of dark feel to it. It was almost like they forgot to turn a set of lighting tracks on or the back bar lights. My girlfriend and I started coming here when we moved out to the Burbs. It has a great, relaxed atmosphere and we have become semi-regulars. It is where we like to go when we need to unwind a bit. The food is great for a pub menu - I have never had a bad meal there! The fish tacos are amazing. Feels like the kitchen puts in a lot of care. The service is very good. The servers are friendly and engaging, not over the top and inauthentic as they can be in some of the other places aiming to attract the supposedly "cool" crowd (looking in your general direction Earl's). They smile and have a good sense of when to check on you, and when to leave you alone! And patience! We brought my mother there one time. She had very specific concerns. The server, though, took it all and listened to her concerns. She tried her best to accommodate. But there are some customers. I would have gone to the back and cursed. Even if this server did that, in front of us she never let on. Needless to say, she got a big tip. On the other end of the spectrum, my girlfriend's aunt visited us. She went in saying "really, you guys are taking me to a sports pub" to leaving saying "oh wow! I have to find one in Calgary - this place is great!". Put another way - after her aunt finished the fish tacos, I had to ask her if she needed a cigarette (seriously they are that good). On the weekends there is always a line, but not much of a wait which again speaks to the level of service and expediency around here. You guys have my business. After having not been to Original Joe's for sometime we thought we would check it out for their Whiskey and Wings Tuesday. .49cent wings and whiskey drinks on special. We also happened to make it in time to catch some of happy hour. The service was good and prompt however with our beverages we found the pours to be inconsistent. One of the people at my table was getting the 5oz wine, the first pour looked to be 2 oz as it was on par with my 2 oz whiskey. The rest of the pours seemed to be closer to actual pour size. Food was good we had the hot wings and the dill pickle wings, you have to pay more for dipping sauce and veggies if you want them on wing tuesday. We had their dill sauce for dipping and it was an additional .75 cents. We also shared the Mediterranean Chicken Pita Wrap, we mentioned we were sharing and they brought out on two plates which was nice. Our sides were the fries with again the dill sauce and the coleslaw, all were tasty. As a side note, that I am not sure all people know as I just found this out, they do have a separate gluten free menu, as well as a vegetarian menu if you ask for them. This is still our go-to spot any time we want to eat out; however, the last experience we had was definitely a disappointment food-wise. The nachos at OJ's were my absolute fave and they went and changed them! They no longer put a ton of veggies on, the beef we had was actually too gross to eat, and we ordered easy-cheese and the bottom of the plate had an inch-thick layer of greasy cheese just sitting there. I totally understand that restaurants have to update menus etc but this change is just not a great one in my opinion. I like Original Joe's. I know that some people have preferences to one location over another, and sure there are some aesthetic differences between locations, but really at the end of the day they've all got good service and sold food. I am partial to this location because it is literally across the parking lot from where I live, sure, but if the food and service weren't any good I wouldn't continue to go. They did some renos about a year ago and changed the seating somewhat, they added more, and that is great because there was often a wait when things got busy so I'm happy to see that more of us can be seated at one time! The staff here has always been great whether I've been there on a date, with a girlfriend, with my parents or just grabbing a drink myself at the bar alone (hey, sometimes a girl just wants a glass of wine with someone other than her cats). No judgment, friendly, always pleasant. The parking is good, it's in a strip mall area where there is lots of room to park (though I usually just walk since I live so close) and their patio is large when it's open during the summer. Also I can't believe nobody has mentioned it yet--THE DILL DIP ON THE FRIES? COME ON! Best ever. read more

My husband and myself went there last sunday. We were very disappointed we both ordered the Grilled Cheese burger and when we got our food my fries had a huge hair in it. When I told the waitress that there was a hair in the food. She pretty much looked at me like ok so what. She finally said sorry and was like do want some new fries. I was move shocked that when she left to go get me new fries she left me with the plate with fries with the hair on it. She didnt even offer to get me a new plate. I was just so surprised, that she wouldnt even bring me a new plate or replate my food. Both my husband and I got food posioning from the grilled cheese burger. I was very disappointed and I will not be going back there. My husband says OJs has the best veggie burger in the city, that's his go to when we eat here. I love everything I've had here. I've had good and bad service here, some of the wait staff is a little less than friendly. My only critique on the menu is I wish the appetizers were a little smaller and proportionately cheaper. I used to love Original Joes. Between myself and friends a lot of money has been spent there especially at the Grange location but this will no longer be happening. We got nothing but bad service including drinks made wrong, cold food, extremely dirty cutlery. Staff glared at us for asking for drinks to be remade, it took 10 minutes to get clean cutlery when there was clean cutlery steps away. When the server came back with clean cutlery i was already eatting with the cutlery I got up to get. The bartender stood behind the bar and glared at us the whole time. A server that had nothing to do with your table also got involved calling us rude, when all we did is ask for things to be done right. THE WORST PART IS... i called the franchise owner this morning and he told me there was nothing he could do about it, that we made a scene and were being ignorant. What ever happened to the customer is always right???? I have never felt so insulted in my life, talking to the owner was like talking to no one at all, he said it was his staff's word against ours. Went there tonight with six other people and left after more than half an hour of no service. We found a couple of tables on the patio and had a waitress help us put them close together only to have some other waitress come over and get all snotty with the first waitress for helping us. Apparently there was a wait list that nobody but her knew about. Fair enough, we ask to be put on the wait list for the patio and head inside to wait. After about five to ten minutes snotty waitress comes over and says I am not going to take your order in here, your outside table is just being wiped off and you will be at your table in a couple of minutes. Ok...we wait some more; we wait so long that another waitress sees us and asks if we have been helped and could she get us any menus? We tell her no, our table is just about ready outside. We wait some more, finally get showed to our patio table and we then proceed to sit for another 20 min without anyone coming to see if we would like to order. We finally all got up and left after we saw people who were seated after us receive their drink order while we were still waiting for someone, anyone, to come and take ours. I will not be going back and would definitely not recommend going there to anyone. read more

Rude, Slow, Disgusting - The "Grunge" is a Disgrace to all Restaurants As a frequent customer to restaurants around Edmonton, as well as being an individual that has been in the restaurant business for quite awhile, I have a few things to say about this particular Original Joe's location... By far, this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We entered the restaurant, waited to be seated (like the sign instructed), and were told to find a seat "anywhere." There were several uncleaned tables and one spot in the darkest corner of the restaurant. We proceeded to sit down and were greeted by a downright rude server (Katrina) after waiting for 10 minutes. The table next to us had the same server and was asked how the food was, if they needed a refill on their beverages and if she could help them with anything else. We received our food menus but she failed to present us with any cutlery, did not light our candle (only unlit candle in the restaurant), did not present us with a drink menu or notify us of the daily specials. The food took half an hour. I had the Original Joe Burger with Garlic Mashed and a Caesar Salad. My date, the Butter Chicken. Katrina, our server, presented us with the food and without a word, left. We noted how a couple of the servers neglected the nearby dirty tables and sat at the table behind us to loudly announce how they didn't want to be at work. After receiving our food we had to ask a different server for cutlery and water. With our mood sour, we hoped that the food would make up for the horrendous service. Sadly we were disappointed yet again: the chicken in the butter chicken was dry and tough, it was obviously added to a premade sauce and then ladled onto rice. The rice itself was overcooked and hard but for some reason was swimming in an opaque goo. The sauce itself tasted like canned tomatoes with a slight accent of turmeric. To top it all off, it was cold. My burger was decent but the bun tasted dry and prehistoric. I should have looked for mold. The garlic mashed potatoes were also cold, the gravy slightly warmer, the salad was underdressed and had more croutons than lettuce. We waved down our server for ketchup and for something to be done about the cold butter chicken. The ketchup came promptly but the butter chicken came exactly how it was before but 2 microwave minutes warmer. Our water glasses were also never refilled after reaching empty. I was past my limit and asked Katrina for the manager upon receiving our bill. She said she would get "him" to bring us our change. However, after waiting for a couple of minutes, another young girl approached, claiming to be the manager. I strongly doubt she was the actual manager and instead a coworker/friend of Katrina's, but nevertheless I explained to her why I was not leaving "Katrina" a tip, paid for our bill and told her that we were leaving with a bad taste in our mouths. She rushed backed to us with the change and two $20 dollar gift certificates exclusive to The Grange Location. I thought about giving them as gifts to my colleagues but decided that i would give The "Grunge" another chance - in a couple of years. If I could give this "restaurant" 0 stars, I would. read more
