Took my grandsons for dinner last night. Service was reasonable, however had the driest most tasteless burger for dinner I've ever had. Went for a walk In the neighbourhood because the gf has taken an apartment a few blocks east of here so we decided to go for a bite. Quick service with a smile. Not to loud either, thank goodness. Too many places have the ambient music cranked up for some reason (Mercer Tavern) but it's just right here. I love my lasagna so I decided to try it. It looked delicious upon its arrival, a little low on the meat content but it was still pretty good. She decided to have the "Big Pig" poutine. A humongous serving of fries cheese curds bacon and pulled pork topped with a delicious coleslaw. Certainly not my first time coming to this location and most certainly not going to be my last. Went to the downtown location tonight for dinner & sat on the patio. it wasn't terribly busy, and there were at least 3 servers on outside, but we had terrible service. My brother's friend is a weirdo & so I don't know if he turned her off serving our table, but we couldn't get anything. Not hot sauce, not a refill on water, not even the bill which we asked for at the same time as ordering dessert, because we couldn't get anything. And she still never brought it to us. the other servers brought bills to their tables, but nothing for us. The food is not amazing. It's food. Dry ribs were good & brussel sprouts were okay, but the lettuce wraps are seriously disgusting. I've never had lettuce wraps served as a soupy mess. Usually the sauce comes on the side, not here, it's basically a soupy mess making the noodles super mushy. I couldn't eat it at all. The other food was described as okay, but that's it. So, for me, it's not a place I would choose to go back to, but it's not too expensive & the food is passable, if that's what you are in the mood for. read more

Summer's got me loving patio season. so when a friend suggested we check out the patio at Original Joe's I was down. The patio is a decent size and looks onto the parking area. Not the best views but they made the inside so pretty you wont be looking out there. The flowers are fake but they obviously spent quite a bit on them because they look great. Lovely hanging baskets and twinkly fairy lights create a lovely relaxed ambience compared to inside. It's a great spot to hang out great in the evening. It was wine night when my girlfriends and I went. Half price wine and all the fries was all we were after and it was brill. The server was attentive and we felt well looked after even thought we were outside. I'd like to come back and try more of the menu but for snacks and late night drinks it does the job! read more

I love the patio at this OJ's location. There are some stellar items at OJ's that never disappoint me: Jalapeño Mac 'n Cheese, Fish Tacos, Lettuce Wraps, and their Nachos with pulled pork added! The beers on top are plentiful and the place happening. I never feel rushed at OJ's and this patio is a great one to linger on during a late night visit with friends. The staff are typically friendly and knowledgeable. The price points are exactly spot on and the food delish! What more could I ask for from a neighbourhood bar? read more

Original Joe's is back open with new social distancing and hygiene measures in place. Before entering the restaurant you wait in a designated area that is well marked as to how far apart to stand. You are then escorted to your table past a hand sanitizer dispenser. The tables are set up such that you are 2m away from the nearest party. There are arrows in the floor indicating which path to take to the restroom and exit, to ensure one way traffic. The exit is via a separate door than the entrance now. Menus are now found online, easily accessible via the barcode scan on your phone using your camera. If you don't have a smart phone physical menus are provided. Salt and pepper is provided via individually wrapped packages. Plates are placed on a designated spot on the table and you pick up your plate and move it in front of you. All the staff wear masks and when they pick up your plates and utensils at the end of the meal they wear gloves. Phew! That was a lot! That said, it was a seamless experience and not anymore time consuming than pre pandemic. So, on to the regular stuff! They have a nice patio, their food is consistent, portions are generous (many plates come with two sides) and service is good. Best of all, no kids allowed! read more

To be honest, I've had better experiences here before my most recent one (which is why this isn't a one star review) but our server mostly ignored our table, didn't bring us cutlery or food or take our order with promptness, and otherwise made an otherwise pretty delicious experience sub-par. Sure I understand that she had quite a lot of tables to deal with, but it was a Friday night and there should be appropriate staffing to deal with us -- or at least she should be providing reasonable service to us AND to the other tables (rather than ignoring us and serving the adjacent table more frequently/consistently). I normally rather like Original Joe's but yeah this location was pretty disappointing on this particular visit. There is generally ample parking here, and I like that it is not far from some major bus routes. There are lots of options of sides to go with your meals. I also like how it participates in the mealshare program. Additionally, this location is large enough that it isn't difficult to find seating. And there are enough menu options for anyone in your party to find something that is worth eating. read more

This wasn't a bad experience, just sort of average. The service was okay. I will say that ALL the servers are friendly, and greet you with a smile no matter if they're your server or not. The place has a very good vibe, like everybody is happy working there. I guess my issue is with the menu. Prices are a little high for ordinary bar eats...Their idea of dressing them up seems to be adding various kinds of peppers in half the items. Which is great if you like red peppers, jalapenos, habeneros, banana peppers, etc. I had the stunningly beautiful Pacific Rim bowl, with noodles, chicken, shrimp, fresh veggies and red peppers. It was nice, and a pretty big portion, but it tasted mostly of the red peppers. Hubby had the Double dog with mashed potatos and caeser salad. The told me it was average, sloppy and filling. He feels it could have been deconstructed a bit, that the dogs should have been separated. He wasn't that fond of the banana peppers because they were pickled. Maybe it's just us. This is my favourite OJs by far! I can always find a spot here even on Friday and Saturday nights. The place is clean and trendy. They always have a variety of games playing too. I can catch football and hockey in the same place which is cool. Servers are always happy to change the channel if it isn't too busy to show different games. I come here quite often because I like the atmosphere and service. Half priced bottles of vino on Thursday (Thank God). Two of my favourite dishes are the butter chicken and the jambalaya! They're both yummy and come with naan or garlic bread. For appys I like the bruschetta. The only thing I don't really like is how dark it gets in the evening. It's SO dark. I'm half blind and I need someone to read the menu to me. read more

My friend and I went for a late lunch on a Saturday. The place was not full but there was quite a number of customers. We noticed that there were only two servers going around serving everyone. Great job to these two ladies who managed to serve everyone in a timely manner from getting the orders to bringing the food and drinks and they even made sure to check on the customer's food and experience on every table. Food was great. We ordered nachos which was humongous, like good for 4 people i think. And pulled pork with salad and fries. Pulled pork was amazinggggg. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton, I love the style/decor of the restaurant & bar. I ordered the queso fundido for starters to share with husband and myself, this was an amazing choice the flavours where outstanding! For main I ordered the chipotle chicken quesadilla which tasted delicious, my husband ordered the fish tacos and would highly recommend them. During the summer this location has a great patio area where you can enjoy some delicious cocktails. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone, it's a shame kids aren't allowed. read more

Original Joe's always has great food and their burgers/sandwiches come with two sides dishes meaning you'll probably leave feeling happy and full! I haven't had a bad thing here yet and I don't expect I will anytime soon! Try their Cajun chicken cheddar cheese burger! Plus their sweet potato fries are awesome!! In addition to their awesome food, they always have great special for drinks. Half off wine on Wednesday or Thursday, 5 dollar bottles on Sunday's, I could go on and on but you're probably better off checking out their website! Great for a low key Sunday Brunch for adults. Downtown location has that "pub" feel rather than that restaurant atmosphere. Service was great though we didn't have the usual attention, our server admitted it and apologized. Being accountable is top notch in my books. Cheddar BLT. Yum. The cheddar is actually on the outside of the sandwich...encrusted... both sides. How? Not sure? Magic?... whatever way they do it, the taste wants you to come back for more. Not wanting the bacon Andrea the ham (yes, the BLT comes with both) I asked for extra veggies. Usually, comes with lettuce, tomatoes and avocado...though with my special request they added cucumbers and a pickle (no asking needed). Made all the difference;). And the smash potatoes were perfectly smashed and fried...no guilt ... they were that good! Was it a good day or just luck? There are many OJs in the city but the way the Downtown location prepare their food, make there drinks and treat their customers...there is a difference when you've been to many. I've been here twice now with coworkers for some food and drinks. It's a pretty big space with lots of tables and some fun decorations (like beer bottle cap art). I like the vibe- buzzing with conversation but not too loud, and a little dim but you can still see your food! Original joes always has some kind of special going on, and I never have complaints about the drinks. Some of the menu items I find less exciting, but I really really enjoyed the noodle bowl last time I was in. It as pretty much a vermicelli bowl and was so delicious. Just the right amount too! I find the servers here aren't very warm or friendly. That takes away from the experience for me a little bit, but overall I can't complain. read more

I am glad that the staff at Original Joe's has been trained so well on their Covid guidelines and that they are doing so well that they are able to turn away tables looking to dine. I came to the restaurant and was told that myself and my 2 friends (all single, all live alone, who each other's cohorts within the guidelines of AHS) were not allowed to sit at the same table. While we were in the entrance 2 of our friends happened to walk in (a couple who live together) and they were told they couldn't sit together. They proposed we all sit at different tables. 5 TABLES! Even though we would only need two within the AHS guidelines. We were also told that Original Joe's was not willing to risk being fined for having us sitting together (2 separate tables, 3 people and then the couple) and turned us away. It was 9:30 at night we were just looking for a quick bite. Id also like to point out that the restaurants liability is to ask if people are from the same house hold or in the same cohort. After that the fines are given to the customers if they are caught breaking the rules and not the restaurant. I understand that these are trying times. I won't be bothering to support any more businesses that aren't interested in being supported. read more

Brought my girlfriend here for dinner on Saturday evening. The host asked us to wait 5 minutes while he cleared a table even though there was six tables or more available. He took off for 15 minutes. When he came back and suggested a table we asked if we could have a different one near the window that was also cleared. He said he couldn't do that because he has to rotate his servers we explained that we would realy like the other table. He said well then you will have to wait some more. If they are so busy they can afford to treat people like that then I can not recommend this place. read more

Centrally located, right next to the iron bridge over Groat Road at the edge of Glenora, OJ's on 125th is a great spot to grab a drink, watch the game, eat a whole pile of nachos and socialize with all your pals. Located close to downtown Edmonton, right next to the River Valley, OJ's boasts a terrific selection of beers on tap, and all manner of other drinks. They even have a promo on right now for 1/2 priced bottles of wine (on Thursdays, maybe? I can't remember). The only complaint I have with this OJ's is the parking lot. It's an odd shape and is shared with several other businesses, so it's pretty tough to get a spot. Arrive during off-peak hours, or else walk over. read more

It's a chain. That means the menu is reviewed once a year if you're lucky and the essential difference between the food here and a Moxy's, a Kelseys or a Chilis is how well are the staff following directions. There is very little actual cooking going on. Food here, however, is well put together and generally well prepared. In a city where there are a lot of affordable chef owned places, there really isn't any reason to go to a chain for the food, but the choices here while chain-standard (the nacho dish, the burger, the steak option, the fish option, the pasta option) are pretty good with generous portions and good pricing. Basically, you go to these places for the atmosphere, drinks and being out with friends. Food is more of a convenience. What I like about Original Joe's is that they have an open plan and manage a pubby feel without the cramped claustrophobic feeling that many "Irish" pubs have. They have a good selection of draught beers with some "micro-brews" that are exclusive to the chain. I appreciate that they have a good selection of ales. What makes me a fan is that in the Summer, I like a Pimms and Ginger. This is a relatively popular Summer drink in England, but no one here seems to know what it is. I was in the mood so I asked at OJ's and not only did they have Pimm's No 1 Cup behind the bar, the bartender knew how to make it to the point that he correctly garnished it with a slice of cucumber. If you know how to do that, you've been TRAINED as a bartender, not just know how to pull a beer tap and set up a boilermaker. So, kudos to a chain that still hires professional bartenders. read more

I really enjoy the original location of Original Joes. In my opinion, they have one of the nicest patios in the city (they improved it this year with more decoration and plants). Normally, I'm not one to prop up chain restaurants, which this certainly is, but for the ambience, taste and price, along with local breweries on tap (AlleyKat specifically), this is a good choice if you want to have a friendly meal with a group of people with a variety of choices. I really adore the fact you can have two sides with your burger or sandwich order. I like their sweet potato fries and their chipotle dip -- crispy and tasty. Basically, why go to a BPs or Earls when you can go to Original Joes and get more bang for your buck? read more

I went here for the first time just as it was getting too cold to have their doors open. This trapped a ton of fly's inside. My girlfriend looked over at the guy across from us and he had 4 fly's just on his pant leg of his jeans. They were everywhere. I could only imagine how many were in the kitchen. And no one seemed to care but us. Despite the fly situation, their beer was really good, for a not so good price. The pulled pork sandwich was great and I love that you get two sides with it. I tried the mango pasta salad and it was awesome. The one thing that really pissed me off is why the steak sandwich costs $13.99 (8oz) and is an extra $1 for onions OR mushrooms. Shouldn't that come on a steak sandwich? So if i wanted both, that's $2 extra? And If I don't its just bread and steak? Pretty lame. Especially for $6 a pint of their own brand of beer. We went back to this restaurant twice more without the fly problem and had a good time. read more

What this Original Joes has going for it is location. Just off High Street and 124 Street, it still feels hidden away. The interior is quite nice as well - they were doing the brick and woodwork thing prior to the trend. While I grow weary of televisions in restaurant/pubs, they are kept muted. During my last visit, we had good service & were made aware of 1/2 price bottles of wine when we each ordered a single glass. The bottle ended up being less than retail, which was a nice surprise when eating out. The food is ok, nothing spectacular, but still tasty. I do look forward to their yam fries with dill dip as well as the cheddar ale soup. I feel the menu is suited more towards lunch than a dinner establishment & will likely come back for a quick lunch with friends. read more

First off I want to say that my experience here was by far some of the best service I have ever received! I came here one evening for a quick bite with a friend. It was my first visit to this location of OJ's. I didn't even know it existed! Our server (I wish I remembered her name... Glasses and tattoos) was friendly without being annoying, attentive without hovering and personable without being needy. Quite honestly the best server! I met my friend here on Sunday for some chats, snacks, beers and a bit of NFL watching. The Original Joe's adjacent to the Magic bent girder bridge of 102 Ave was the perfect venue for this. We sat at the bar and received some great service from the bar tender. He was always swift to know when one of us needed a wee top up but not too intrusive. My impression of Original Joe's was that it was like an upscale Boston Pizza with a very dominant pub style. The outside of the restaurant fits well with 124th Street, because it's an older building decked out in layers of mortar and bricks. The inside of Original Joe's is very dim and laid-back like a pub, but also has a touch of classiness, especially with its dark wood tables and chairs. I was apprehensive of the menu, because with many of the dishes, you get to choose two side-orders. I've not had good experience with restaurants that do this, but I was not disappointed here. One of my side dishes was sauteed veggies that tasted awesome and fresh and healthy too! My disappointment was that the menu didn't have too many chicken dishes. There was a lot of beef burgers and steaks; however, they also offer many salads, pizza, and pasta. I ended up having a chicken wrap that I thoroughly enjoyed. Original Joe's definitely delivers good food and a good atmosphere for chatting and having a good time. I think this is the best OJ's in Edmonton. My friends and I used to go here all the time when I worked nearby. The staff got to know us, and even offered us a "service" discount. The place can get pretty packed, but the servers are always on top of things. The food is also really good. Portion sizes are massive and the food is fresh. I love love love their dill dip with fries. This location has a couple pool tables as well as a nice deck. I like how big the restaurant is. It feels very spacious, but is awesome for people watching. If you manage to get the big booth on the top level with your back facing the door, you will enjoy hours of people watching. However, parking here is a complete joke unless you go at some weird time like 2:30pm. Also their lemonade is atomic. I'll begin by saying that this is normally a pretty good place but we made the mistake again of going in for their Sunday steak sandwich special which reached a new level of awful. Literally the meat was something you'd get out of a Walmart freezer box - that tenderized not really beef texture. To add insult to injury - their 6 ounce glass was about half of what it should be - not a drop over 4 at best and that was being generous. Do we have to start bringing shot glasses to measure the pours here now ? Look - if you don't want to use your regular steak as your promo item then why feature a steak sandwich in the first place. Run a different feature of something with the low food cost but don't serve me something that isn't even on your menu that is so awful that I completely wasted my money. If I wanted a mechanically processed Walmart steak then I would have cooked myself that at home and blamed myself for buying such a gross piece of meat - but don't sucker customers into paying for it in a bar / restaurant known for pretty decent food. And you know what, the little bit of money you saved on using such a cheap cut of meat was just completely erased by this review and people realizing that it isn't worth going to your establishment on a Sunday if they're coming in to have the steak sandwich. read more

Always a great meal to be had when I go to Original Joe's. We arrived before noon as we had about 10 of us and unfortunately they don't take reservations but we were able to get a table. We were seated and the waitress came to take our drinks. More guests arrived and they ordered drinks as well as our meals. The restaurant was almost packed so it took at about 30 minutes for our food to arrive. The fish tacos and sweet potato fries were a hit at the table but my Saigon Sub was ok. I preferred the pulled pork sandwich and stuck to my staple. I've never had a bad meal here and the portions are always big and great value. read more

While the menu is fairly standard, the food is excellent. Original Joe's makes you feel like it is a bunch of restaurants mixed into one. It has some elements of a pub with a great selection of beer on tap. It has a pool table that reminds you of a sports bar, but it's still a restaurant that could bring a date or husband/wife to for nice evening. Don't get me wrong it's not some beautiful restaurant, more of a sports lounge than anything, but it is set up nicely and allows for a cozy feeling. The atmosphere is warm and the staff is welcoming. It gets really busy on weekends so be warned, you may have to wait a bit before they can make room for you. read more

I went there last weekend for lunch. The place has a nice atmosphere and a wonderful location with ample parking spots. The reason why I give this place 2 stars is because we had to wait 50 minutes to get our food. We ordered burgers and drinks, but our server forgot to punch-in the order, she only noticed 30 minutes later when a nearby table, who arrived after us, got their food before us. I normally expect some form of discount or free drinks when this issue happens, but all we received from our server was a dry apology. I am, however, going to give this place another chance because their food was tasty. read more
