It was a busy Tuesday evening when we arrived at OJ's with a loud atmosphere. But was promptly seated by staff next to the window in front. We ordered drinks and chatted for a bit until the beverages arrived. I noticed on my step mother's Long Island Ice Tea a long hair on the lemon garnish in the sunlight through the window, Gross. That was sent back immediately. Second attempt and another long hair on the glass, the waitress saw it too as she passed the drink over, disgusting. I think a bit of quality control is needed at the bar. Third attempt and the waitress said it was thoroughly checked...finally, hair free. After all that we ordered our food choices. I had the Spicy Shanghai Noodle Bowl. Unfortunately it fell short on spicy and was a little too salty for my liking. If you're looking for heat and order this definitely get 6-7 Birds Eye chili's added in. Then it might be spicy. My wife and step mother ordered burgers and fries. The fries were a mixed bag of crispy and soggy . Hopefully one day OJ's will WOW us. So far, it's been sub par visits. read more

It's a pretty reliable chain. Not too busy for a Tuesday lunch crowd. "Sit anywhere." I had hoped for a bit more cheese on my steak salad. ($18.00) It was a bit scant. The steak was done perfectly. I love OJ's. Came here on Saturday morning to have brunch with my sister and parents for Father's day. We sat outside with the nice summer sun in our faces and a cool breeze from time to time. My sister and I ordered the Morning glory drink which is orange juice with fruit and vodka I believe. My parents had orange juice. We all ordered the Cheddar breakfast sandwich with an egg except for my mom who had the frittas. The food came out a bit longer than usual but that was ok because we all had a great time chatting it up. Our server was fantastic, she funny and gave us plenty of attention. We have been here many, many times over the years. In fact, this is the place that introduced my hubby to fish tacos and he loves them now. They always have solid appies - crispy wings, dry ribs etc. Drinks are always on point and they have decent specials. So, when we have no kids with us this is a no brainer for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately, tonight wasn't our usual experience. The drinks were just ok, not sure what it was but they're normally better. Hubby's fish tacos were ice cold (no exaggeration) and my drunken noodles (while still delicious) were rather sloppily presented. The service was awesome, they were busy and she took great care of us, even taking the tacos off the bill despite trading them in for fresher ones. The food is fabulous at every location! My favourite is the beef dip and I noticed that the price has increased to $16.00. I visited this location on a Tuesday around 5 p.m. It was about half full and Tuesday's are wing night for 35 cents each although my friend and I didn't know until we arrived. We were greeted right away and the server told us it was wing night. He asked if we needed a menu and took our drink order. There are several flavours of wings to choose from but we picked the good'ol standby bbq, 10 for $3.50. They were tasty but a bit on the dry side, maybe they were pre-cooked and then warmed up again? I also ordered the chicken quesadilla for $13.75 which comes with mixed greens but I was able to substitute it for any of their other sides such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, fries or Caesar salad. There are a few more choices and they are all listed on top of the menu. The balsamic berry vinaigrette was delicious as was the salad which had almond slivers and cranberries. My friend order lettuce wraps for $13.00. Her's came with 5 large pieces of romaine lettuce and a bowl of chicken with what looked like crunchy chow mien noodles. She loved her food too. Overall at most Original Joes: Average: 4/5 Most of the time going to this establishment around the city and even in Calgary, I've had good servers and bad servers like everyone else. Around 1 in 5 visits you might get a slow or bad server but most the time it's worth it. I would compare the prices similar to Boston pizzas prices but portions of the meals are way bigger, and you get a wise variety of sides to choose from. Settled for chicken fingers and they didn't even have any sauces. The manager informed me that "it's covid times" like oh neat so they stopped making barbecue then? Went to Original Joe's in Albany tonight . Had a WONDERFUL time. Was lucky enough to have Shaylagh look after my girlfriend and I. I have to say, one of the best servers I've had in a while (and I've been lucky enough to have some good ones) She was friendly, she was knowledgeable and beyond courteous. She apologized for some technical issues the restaurant was experiencing even though said issues didn't affect our experience in any way . It was busy, (as per usual for a Friday) but we still managed to get seated quickly. So quickly in fact that our table hadn't been cleared yet, no big deal to us, but the staff was sincerely apologetic and was lightning quick in getting it cleared. Original Joe's has some pretty great entree's and appetizers on their menu but for the most part it is a hit or miss on whether the food will come out fresh or not. I do really like their burgers and chicken wings but like I said, you'll have to come in on a slow day for optimal food freshness. Some of the waitresses there are very nice and easy to chat with, but there are a few who are not very good at what they do, or seem to not care about the people they are serving. I've gone there many times and have received service from the same waitress(she has dreadlocks) time and time again and it has been bad every single time. I now avoid going there as I really don't like being served by her as it is not a good time at all. I believe that OJ's is successful based off the awesome menu they have, but could really put some time and effort into training their servers better, or even just hiring friendlier servers. I had the wings, which come gluten free. They were under sauced, sauced unevenly and over cooked, even though they were 8 gauge wings. At 8 wings for $14 I expected a lot better job. My companion had the burger, which also is gluten free and has the option of a gluten free bun. Burger itself was cooked nicely and very tasty. The fries were atrocious. Real dark brown, greasy and partly under cooked. The choice of two sides with the burger was nice as the fresh veg were good. One beer, a bottled water and the food was $60, and I didn't leave a tip. I thought it was fair to bump up my rating, as I have noticed since last year's review that the service here now has improved a lot. Waitress' are attentive once you sit down and will come back asking how things are, or to just grab you another drink. Sadly there is not many places close by for pub food and drinks, the closest is the Brewsters in Castledowns. But I much prefer here than Brewsters. The Long Beach fish tacos are still one of the best I've had and you can't beat $3 draught on Mondays. Me and my wife have dubbed this location "original slows" and we've decided to change the name to "original no's." The reason being either we wait forever for painful service. That drags out the experience wishing you had just stopped at Tim hortons in the parking lot. We changed it to "no's" as this last attempt we tried to have a drink here on a Wednesday afternoon . Which wasn't even during lunch we walked in and were greeted by the staff in full seemed promising. We were told sit where you like so we chose the empty patio. Abandoned for 10 mins without service and staff who clearly sees us sitting out there and acknowledge us. Pathetic management from this location even there pick up is terrible. Not the beat OJs in the city. The last time we went, am several of their menu items had changed, and even the old favourite wasn't up to snuff. We've also noticed the service has been going way down hill. Our server was abrupt, cold, ungracious and took twenty minutes to bring our bill after clearing our table and clearing the cheque of several tables who arrived after we did. This place really gets busy around the supper hour, there is actually a short line up on a Wednesday night. They have some great Beer specials every day. Food here from what I've tried is good but not great. , We ordered the Mediterranean ribs thinking we would get something out of the ordinary, but instead they were very average ribs, nothing to go crazy for. (Greasy) Thank goodness for the lemon wedges to cut the grease. We also shared a pizza. The Spanko Pizza, with spinach, feta cheese, peppers. It was nothing great either, the thin crust seemed like it just came out of the oven a bit to soon. It just seemed barely cooked with no crusting on the bottom . As for the feta cheese , it was barely there. I'll come by again another day and order something else. I would really like to give a higher rating, because the service and beer were great.
