I was so disappointed when the East side marios calgary se closed. Drove through red deer and decided to have some lunch. They were having a promo.. Buy a $50 card and get free jr chicken parm later. Service was mediocre and unattentive and when I asked for water.. it was in a dirty cup with lipstick but the kicker was when I was matching the receipt to card. It didnt match and when I asked waitress she said she would check the $50 card I just bought. She gave me the correct card after but absolutely no apology and not flabbergasted or embarrassed. It was very scammy and with all the recent gc scams should just stop buying them. Makes me not want to return to East side marios again. read more

Had a fantastic experience! This location was very busy with lunch hour rush on a Friday afternoon. Our server was very friendly and had our order to us fast. We ordered the all you can eat soup and salad, as well as a chicken salad and water. Our server was running off her feet, yet was able to give top service to all her tables in her area. Was very clean and servers and hostess cleared and cleaned table as soon as people left for the people that were waiting for tables in the restaurant part of East Side Mario's. I hadn't been to East Side Mario's in years after a negative and bizarre experience that had our waitress start taking our food away while we were still eating amongst other problems. But I had just driven over 6 hours from Grand Prairie and I was craving pasta, so the wife and I thought about burying the hatchet with the Red Deer East Side Mario's, and give it the first chance in over 5 years. HUGE mistake. We get there at 9pm. A quick google search before we left the house revealed they close at 10pm. So we get there at 9pm, and proceeded to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge our existence. The girl that did come to the door was super nice, but when she asked her boss if she could sit us the boss who was wiping down the bar was rude. Yelling from the bar they were closed. Closed.... At 9:10pm when their hours say 10pm. I've worked in the restaurant business, and people showing up an hr before close is not uncommon. Totally unprofessional. So as I look around I see a couple tables waiting for their food. So our simple party of 2,that would have been in and out in an hour left. Just wanted a quick tetrazzini and beer. So we went to Tiffany's where I got pasta. Lobster linguine, lobster bisque, salt and pepper squid, racks of lamb and some killer drinks. Thank you East Side Mario's Red Deer. For reminding me why I don't go to your establishment any more. There once was a time I went there up to 3x a week. Now I have been in there once in years and you didn't want me or my business. We have been going here many times and this is probably the worst food experience we had with them. The minestrone soup had no flavour and it's usually one of my favourites. The famous chicken parmigiana that I always have had dried out penne noodles just wasn't the same. My wife enjoyed the fish dish. My daughter didn't finish her pizza and the server asked her to pack it up she told her it want good and the sever didn't even blink or respond. This was "our" restaurant.. After our experience a few weeks ago though, we have not been back and have been to other places in town instead. Usually, because the food is so good there is a decent wait..30 to 45 minutes is not crazy and we liked to sit at the bar and have some drinks while waiting. We were informed upon our last visit that, we can no longer be seated at the bar, unless we wished to stay there and cannot wait for a table there. This was a new rule, and the reason was because of the extra cleaning the staff needed to do. I guess I understand that. Does the management know that when we do that, and lots of other people I assume sit at the bar, our bill almost doubles what it would otherwise be? It definitley made us feel unwelcome, and we decided instead of waiting in our car for 40 minutes to go somewhere else instead. At the other place we were seated immediately and had a nice meal. We have not been back at this place since, and felt that the extra money we spent still did not compensate the restauraunt for the extra wiping of a counter and two seats. But the food is good so our complaint may not be relevant if that's all you're after. read more

Calamari was over cooked and the Lasagna was very spicy despite not having a spicy symbol on the menu. We had to switch out the lasagna for something else but they took it off our bill and added a complimentary dessert. The rest of the food was amazing and the server was excellent. read more

I love, love, love Italian food...but East Side Mario's is basically the Chief Boyardee off Italian restaurants. I had the veal and beef jumbo tortellini's...and it was basically "meh"..it literally tasted like something out of a can. The service was ok..although, we kept having to ask the guy for drink re-fills and the garlic bread that came with the meal. That was pretty annoying. But what really got me was the price! The prices are soooo high for what you actually get. It was $50 for 2 soft drinks, and two pasta mains..I thought that was outrageous. read more

Super family friendly. Pretends to be an Italian restaurant. Unlimited bread and salad is very good. My pasta dish tasted quite nice but was not hot. My server was also the bar tender and she was very busy at the bar. Environment is pretty institutional without a bit of warmth. 2 1/2 stars would be more accurate. read more

The appy plates had dried spinach on them and the floors were sticky. Pretty bad at any time of day, but right at 11:00 when they open? Unacceptable. The food? Bland, nothing here has any flavor. The chicken parm tastes like tough chicken with burnt breading. The lasagna has no sauce or meat in it. Tasted like dry noodles. I put salt and pepper on it, didn't help, just tasted like salt and pepper. I had three bites before I threw in the towel. The waiter didn't ask how it was, just asked if I was done and then took away my uneaten lasagna. Took forever to get my food and I had to ask for my drink 3 times. We didn't get utensils right away we had to ask multiple times for them. Food was adequate but service was preposterous. The waitress stuck her nose in the Pepsi to find out if it was Pepsi or root beer which was quite repulsive. It was a hassle to get our food and to get the bill. Came in for a light lunch and we had a wonderful time. Our server, Shae-An, was very friendly and was very efficient. We ordered some sodas which were cold and fizzy like they should be. We both got the lunch sized Double Bacon Carbonara which was also the pick of the day. We were brought our garlic home loaf right out of the oven as it was so fresh. Food was out on maybe five minutes and was the perfect amount for this time of day. Everything was delicious and we were finished after 30 minutes. Went here for dinner last night. Our appetizers took quite awhile to come out but were good. However it all went down hill after that. Our meals took 40 min to come out after our dishes were cleared and one of them was so burnt it was sent back to be remade. We were all done by the time it came out 55 min after the appetizer dishes were cleared. She brought out the most ridiculous salad for one person I have ever seen. One of the red bowls full to the top. It was obvious when we recieved our food finally it had been under the heat lamp for so long the pasta was dried out and plates were untouchable they were so hot. No wonder the wrap was burnt. I keep thinking maybe next time it will be better but this is probably the 4 or 5th time the food has taken forever or been awful. I wouldn't recommend coming here if your in a hurry and dont count on the food being great its hit or miss. And if you have little ones good luck keeping them occupied well you are there for 2.5 hours for a dinner. read more

Took my sister to East Side Mario's, Red Deer this evening to celebrate her birthday. There were four of us in the party. I was the one who picked where to eat so felt a little pressure that it be good. It turned out terrible. Firstly, the waitress took our order, then we waited and waited and waited. Then we got our salads. Then we waited and waited for our appetizer but it never came. She finally came with our entrees and we asked what appended to our appetizers? She said, oh my goodness I forgot to put them in. We told her to forget about it by then. It was too late. My entree was cold, dry and burnt on top. Weird combination huh. Figured it was overheated then sat and dried up and got cold before it was served. My sister ordered the steak sandwich, rare. She stressed how rare she liked it. It also was cold, the bread soggy and the steak overdone. She returned it immediately and refused to order anything else. My brother ordered tea, waited and waited, then stopped the waitress to inquire where it was. Again,oops, I'll get it now. She did, he had ordered cream with it, but none was forthcoming. We reminded her once, still no creamer, so he got up and went and borrowed some from a table close by. I felt so badly about the horrible ordeal. Just went for nice drink and dinner with my sister here and our server Robin was an absolute wonderful server. She was able to joke around with us and yet still be very professional. Her service was very efficient and fast. When we go back I hope she is serving us! Robin is what made our experience wicked. Now onto the food. I had the broccoli and tomato penne. My sister had the mussel linguine. Quite scrumptious. Obviously the soup and salad to start always live up to their potential. Unfortunately the only turn off was the manager that was in that night. I looked her in the eyes, smiled and said hello. She did not smile she did not say a word. Fine that's cool, but the way she was treating her staff was off putting. Do not treat anyone that way regardless, but in front of customers made me not want to come back. Do not belittle your staff in such a rude manner there are plenty of ways to get your point across in an appropriate manner. Service was OKAY, orders were taken correctly and everything came out as ordered. However on this particular occasion the Entrees we ordered were VERY bland and not good at all. This was one of the dirtiest restaurants I have been in. Not only was the straw and cutlery dirty but I had to wipe crumbs off the booth seat while the host watched me without saying a word. Then I slid into the booth only to find my feet in a puddle. We took our son to Eastside Mario's for the first time. When we sat down, we were told that if we purchased any adult meal, we would receive a free kids' meal. When we received the bill, we were surprised to find the cost of our son's meal on it. It turns out the offer is only valid if you purchase an adult meal for $14.99 or greater, which our server did not mention. I can afford $7.25 but I'm a believer in truth in advertising and it would have been nice to have been told the full details of the offer. My family and I had a great server at the restaurant. She was friendly and was quick to serve. The food was okay, very similar to most chain restaurants. It was good but not remarkable. The restaurant was really busy because we went on a weekend. Pricing was good - good bang for your buck because you get endless bread. The first time I went there horrible service I said no cheese on are salad and they put cheese on it I didn't go back for about 2 years and that last time I was there was 6 month ago and we went back way approved and better with cotton candy drinks and jolly rancher drinks with great amazing food I recommend if you'r going to a restaurant come here.
