Friday, July 3, 2026, we loved this place. We visit my wife's daughter, husband and our three-year-old granddaughter as much as we can from South Carolina. We love taking our granddaughter to this restaurant. She loves the Childs portion of French toast, the food is always fresh hot and delicious. The wait staff is very nice, if you can get "April", you'll be very welcomed with nice hospitality. We definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast. It has become our favorite go to place when we are in Detroit. If you only read the one star reviews, they are from at least 2-4 years ago, I think that the restaurant has made some changes because we have not had any issues. read more

First, bring a light wrap, cool inside, but not freezing. Nice padded benches to sit if You have to wait for a table. It is a popular place, so if you are here during peak hours, be prepared for a wait. We were greeted immediately and luckily got a table right away because we came at 11:00 AM, an in between time. Clean tables and well lit seating area. Nice menu full of unique offerings, like Dutch baby pancakes (Big German and small German), potatoe pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, crepes with cherries soaked in wine, plus more traditional fare like omelettes, pancakes, waffles and more. I absolutely love this place for breakfast. Their pancakes are amazing. I always get the batter to go as well, so I can make them at home. Every thing I've tried has been delicious. However, I am stuck on their pigs in a blanket, eggs and grits at the moment. The service has always been nice and friendly. The inside is a little cramped if you're not in a separate booth area, but everyone is always so friendly so it's no big deal. I will definitely go back again and again. read more

Awful. Horrible. Food was fantastic as was the service. Restaurant was clean. You would think that this would warrant a five-star review. Unfortunately it does not. With my visit today to the pancake House in grosse pointe, I got there about 8:00 in the morning. I was meeting a friend there. Unbeknownst to us there were patrons that were dressed highly inappropriately. When I say highly inappropriately I mean nudity. We experienced seeing thongs on grown adults through mesh as well as netting tops that wholely exposed women's breasts. This was on a Sunday morning, prior to church, with children seated all around. My question is why would the pancake house even seat people that were not dressed? Shameful. read more

Original Pancake House has by far the best side I've ever heard of when you order an omelet: instead of boring old toast, you get pancakes. These pancakes are magical...the buckwheat gives every bite a nutty and slightly sweet character. So why not just order pancakes? You could do that, and I guarantee you'll love them. But...yeah, the omelets are also magical. They whip the eggs to make them fluffy, which makes the omelet seem larger and somehow light at the same time. I love the spinach omelet with cheddar, but what really makes it sing is the creamy sherry mushroom sauce. I don't mind admitting that I went mmm mmm mmm with every bite. Order an extra side of sauce...you'll want to dip everything (except the pancakes) in it. They also do an excellent scrambled eggs and bacon, which my wife ordered. Service was solid: we never had an empty coffee mug, and the food arrived reasonably quickly despite how busy it was. This location was always busy years ago, and it still is, which is a testament to its excellence. We're going to need to find an excuse to visit Grosse Pointe Woods more often. read more

The quality ingredients, friendly staff, and warming, home-like atmosphere, including their insanely delicious hot cocoa, brings back the childhood nostalgia every time! They still use real butter, real maple syrup (which they don't charge extra for, like at the Dally Jam, I am still miffed about that $1.79 up charge for ONE side pancake and not telling me). Our server was attentive and excellent - my coffee cup was never less than half-full. I love the atmosphere and decor here, too. I only wish that the fireplace we were sitting next to was on, because it was a cold, snowy morning and the draft from the entrance door was the only minor annoyance we experienced while there. A fire would have made the ambience perfectly warm and cozy. The food is the star here, though. Everything was excellent! This is the only place where the thick-sliced bacon isn't like eating a piece of beef jerky - it was crispy, delicious perfection. I loved the Dutch Baby - again, perfectly prepared. This place feels like a step back in time in the best way possible. Now to the most important part, the food. The breakfast food is far and above the best I've had. My go to here is one of their one of a kind baked Edd white omelettes. They have several kinds but my favorite has become the vegetarian with cheddar and Swiss cheese folded in. It has broccoli, tomato, onion and green pepper. You also get a half order of their insanely good fluffy pancakes. I usually go here for a treat day and get fresh whipped cream and blueberry compote. The entire experience at this location was fantastic! I love a restaurant with dedicated parking, because I'm old and I don't wanna be thinking about an expiring parking meter a mile away. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. I brought my daughter and she got her classic chocolate chip pancakes. They were exquisite! Fluffy enough while being extremely light. It came with some sausages and those were good too. I ordered the Santa Fe omelette, and added green peppers and spinach. It came with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. It was so good. I have been coming to this location for years. I went here for my birthday because I was craving gluten free pancakes. When I asked the waitress about how they make their GF pancakes, she said they make them on the same stovetop as the rest of the pancakes. I asked if they would be able to make it in a separate pan so there's less potential for cross contamination and she said no they were too busy to do that. I thought this was a completely reasonable request. This was so disappointing since I've had GF pancakes at other Original Pancake House locations and they have been very accommodating and I've had no issues! You cannot list menu items as gluten free if you're literally cooking them on the same surfaces as the rest of the food. That defeats the purpose. And yes, I'm aware that there's always a risk of cross contamination, especially in a restaurant like this. Sadly, I will not be back here. read more
