Not just pancakes. Original pancakes. Actually, amazing buckwheat flapjacks. Delicious.
Rob P.

Original Pancake House has by far the best side I've ever heard of when you order an omelet: instead of boring old toast, you get pancakes. These pancakes are magical...the buckwheat gives every bite a nutty and slightly sweet character. So why not just order pancakes? You could do that, and I guarantee you'll love them. But...yeah, the omelets are also magical. They whip the eggs to make them fluffy, which makes the omelet seem larger and somehow light at the same time. I love the spinach omelet with cheddar, but what really makes it sing is the creamy sherry mushroom sauce. I don't mind admitting that I went mmm mmm mmm with every bite. Order an extra side of sauce...you'll want to dip everything (except the pancakes) in it. They also do an excellent scrambled eggs and bacon, which my wife ordered. Service was solid: we never had an empty coffee mug, and the food arrived reasonably quickly despite how busy it was. This location was always busy years ago, and it still is, which is a testament to its excellence. We're going to need to find an excuse to visit Grosse Pointe Woods more often.

I have been coming to Pancake House for over 20 years and this is truly a staple in GP. The quality ingredients, friendly staff, and warming, home-like atmosphere, including their insanely delicious hot cocoa, brings back the childhood nostalgia every time! The cherry Kujafa crepes are to-die for, with a side of bacon and hash-browns! Weekends are busy, but it's worth the wait. Sunday breakfast is always better at Pancake House!

This restaurant has been here forever and hasn't changed much but is clean and inviting. The server was prompt and friendly and took our order right away. I had the blueberry waffle with bacon and my wife had pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. The food was delicious. Only drawback is the cost of this meal was $50.00. Seems steep for a breakfast but the overall experience did not disappoint.

One of the best brekkies I have ever had in a while. Building was under a little construction but was not a bother to the experience. My waitress was very pleasant, and refilled coffee often.

I've come to this location a few times and they never miss. The service is always good and the food quality is consistent. My favorites are the French toast, the 2x4, and the omelets. It tends to get busy quickly, so get there early on a weekend.

This restaurant is older than me (and I'm old, haha) but it's still one of the best breakfast places on the east side. Went on a Friday morning, and we were seated promptly. Our server was attentive and excellent - my coffee cup was never less than half-full. I love the atmosphere and decor here, too. I only wish that the fireplace we were sitting next to was on, because it was a cold, snowy morning and the draft from the entrance door was the only minor annoyance we experienced while there. A fire would have made the ambience perfectly warm and cozy. The food is the star here, though. Everything was excellent! This is the only place where the thick-sliced bacon isn't like eating a piece of beef jerky - it was crispy, delicious perfection. I loved the Dutch Baby - again, perfectly prepared. My son loved his breakfast as well, and as I sampled the excellent potato pancakes on his plate, I made a mental note to return for a platter of those crispy delights in the near future - with a side of bacon :) You can't go wrong here, unless to come on a busy weekend morning when the line is out the door.

Original Pancakes House Food: AMAZING! The Pancakes were served hot with nice pieces of butter. They were light fluffy and delicious . The Bacon Lover's comes with a mountain of bacon. The cheesy eggs are just to wash down all that bacon. The Santa Fe omelette was huge and it comes with a short stack of those pancakes previously mentioned. Service: Our server was amazing, we had a group of six (wouldn't recommend bigger). Everyone's food came to the table hot and correct to order. Waite staff was so friendly. Ambiance: Old country kitchen is the vide. Really clean and orderly.

Fight the crowds...wait in line...deal with the parking...and just go to the Pancake House!! It's crowded and the tables are too close. I do not care. The pancakes are so good!! The Pumpkin Pancakes are what dreams are made of in fall. No matter how crowded it is...the coffee is hot and the service is always great. My favorite place for crepes, too, besides the pancakes!! Just a great place.

Definitely be prepared for a little of a wait if you go on a weekend - but it's so worth it! Food was delicious and yummy. Hot chocolate is a must!!!! Our server wasn't the friendliest but that won't stop us from returning. I really enjoyed the waffles. I did order hash browns but our waitress messed up and gave us home fries - still delicious though.

This is thee absolute best place for pancakes. It's literally thee only place I eat pancakes from! Never been? Lemme give you the run down! Parking lot will fill fast okay, there's parking on both sides The earlier the better or there WILL be a wait and it will be a nice one! This is a small spot! Booths along wall and tables in the middle. There's also carry out options of course. Imo this location carry out is the best setup compared to the others I always get the bacon lovers special, you get like 50 pieces lol it's THEE best bacon you have ever had! You can order pancakes or toast. The pancakes are so good! Sometimes u can just smell the baking powder in them. I've also had a peach crepe or 2! They're good but make sure to ask for cinnamon because they come with nothing! Syrup is good as well! They have retail options for you to take pancake mix or syrup home with you. Now no it doesn't taste the same, but it's still good!!! Orange juice has pulp FYI! Only open until 3 pm I believe

Usually go to the Birmingham location, this is my first time at the restaurant in Grosse Pointe. I've been going all my life for the star of the show, the big apple! The bacon is super thick and amazing also. It's always busy in there and that tells you how good it is. They decorated for Halloween, definitely put a lot of effort in. 5 stars!

Hash browns!!

Ask the Community - Original Pancake House

Do they have Gluten free pancakes and waffles?

Yes they for sure have gluten free pancakes. I didn't see them on the menu but the waiter let me know they have them. Plus additionally, they have buckwheat and Potato pancakes too.

Everything we tried was delicious. The pancakes were a standout for sure and were very fluffy. The service was great, clean atmosphere. I informed our server that this was our first time here and wasn't sure about what to get. She eagerly provided a rundown of the menu and some of her favorites. I truly appreciated her patience and attentiveness. I will definitely be back to try more items off the menu.

Lattes: The bonfire latte (special) had a strong espresso flavor, but it became sweeter as the marshmallows melted. I enjoyed this more than the lavender iced latte (special), though that ultimately came down to personal preference. Savory Breakfast Options: The triple triple omelette (regular menu item) is one of my favorite local omelettes, featuring three meats and three cheeses. The components of the sweet potato and pork belly hash (special) complimented each other nicely. It was served with house-made salsa verde and hot sauce. Sweet Breakfast Options: The campfire s'mores French toast (regular menu item) was rich and filling. The chicken and French toast (special) featured double-battered chicken tenders alongside Captain Crunch-encrusted challah French toast. Between the two, I preferred the chicken and French toast. The cinnamon swirl pancakes (regular menu item) are a classic dish here, and can be ordered as an entrée or a smaller side. Lunch Options: The birria tacos (special) were tasty, but a bit spicier than expected. Similarly, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich (special) definitely packed some heat. The chicken was sauced rather than coated in a dry rub. While I'm typically not a fan of chicken sandwiches that feature tenders instead of fillets, the size and quality of the tenders made this one work. The fries it came with had a fluffy interior and were lightly seasoned. Jagged Fork's variety and consistency over the years has kept me coming back. I often opt for the specials, but that's not a knock on the regular menu items. I'll be back to try more of the house favorites and new seasonal specials.

All were phenomenal but there are still plenty more on the menu I will be back to try. There is a simple but charmingly quaint indoor dining room and a few tables outside, as well. I ventured out within a couple of hours of viewing to experience Le crepe on Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak. I was greeted upon entering while my 2-high top table was arranged. The ambiance and vibe in this small space was extremely relaxing and the staff friendly. Tiekeya, the owner, was helpful when I explained that it was my first time. My server was her niece, a young lady with a tremendous smile who shared she was a student at MSU as I was wearing a pullover displaying her Alma mater that I know well from paying so much tuition over several years for my children. I started with an enjoyable vanilla cappuccino which was prepared to my liking. I did not feel rushed at all, but the service was attentive and consistent throughout my dining experience. The restaurant was quite popular on this morning and I heard others mentioning the segment on the news. It was funny, as I was texting a couple of friends (foodies) from work who were very curious to hear about my experience. I was sharing quickly upon sitting down as this was a nice treat. I reviewed the menu which had several unique choices and I decided to order The Green Goat which was a crepe containing pan-seared chicken, bacon, Granny Smith apples, and caramelized onions with goat cheese and a little arugula. The combination of flavors was delicious in every aspect! Wow! As wonderful as my main course was, the sweet crepe favorites were even tastier. I chose the Cinnamon Sweet Cheese with bananas which included a crepe containing the bananas and a house cinnamon cream cheese icing that was fantastic! Thanks again to Fox 2 News as I will gladly make the 24 minute drive to enjoy this experience again. I also was thrilled to meet Chef Dennis in the kitchen who I had seen on the news. Do enjoy if you venture out and there is free parking for the first two hours in the nearby garage. Le Crepe was so good that I returned the next day and enjoyed a wonderful local brewed enjoyable coffee while I waited for a table. On day #2, I was really struggling to decide which crepe to try from so many descriptive choices on the menu. I chose the James Dean which was also fantastic once again. It was a delicious combination of flavors of scrambled eggs, a slightly spicy homemade sausage that was a perfect complement, and red skin potatoes with a cherry sauce drizzle. Tiekeya assured me that I can try one of the others when I come back on Tuesday . It is wonderful to meet such a kind business owner and it was refreshing to experience the staff interaction and she shared that I have now become one of her "regulars". I can't wait to come back and introduce family and friends to this amazing menu of tasty treats.
