Mama's was very, very good. First off, it's a very large, dine in restaurant. North of West Grand Boulevard (besides Hammtramack), this is kind of a rare occurrence, so I was just very happy to find it in the first place. When I went for a mid-day, mid-week lunch, it was bustling! I did not expect it to have that many customers, but it was great, and they had plenty of waitstaff to help with everyone. I had a couple of waitresses come by to make sure I was ok and each one of them was extremely pleasant. Can't say enough how much I enjoyed the vibe of Mama's. Finally , the food. My Salmon Patty breakfast was maybe the best I've had in the area, and certainly the best value. 10.99 for Salmon Patties, Eggs and a huge portion of grits is incredible. The Salmon Patties were very good, and they weren't salty at all. They just used high quality ingredients and let them do the talking. They weren't all breading either. There was a ton of salmon in each patty. My grits were buttery and not lumpy at all. After I ate, I was stuffed. I'll be back here and was so happy I checked them out. Highly recommended! read more

This was our first time at this restaurant. We were a party of five after church. The menu was large and varied, with lots of breakfast and lunch offerings. We all chose breakfast. My hubby and I were especially pleased to see heart smart items. I ordered the Turkey Sausage plate with extra crispy hash-browns. Everything was cooked perfectly. The portions were generous. And the food tasted great. The waitstaff was attentive and pleasant. When I am on that side of town again, I will dine in! read more

Ordered the easiest thing you could make, grilled chicken salad. It was so bland just chopped head lettuce, huge tomato and cucumber pieces with sliced American cheese and white sliced cheese with a little egg. Disgusting all for $16. I won't order again. read more

Came back to Mama's Restaurant; still keeping my rating for food & service. Everyone is friendly & courteous & the food is good. Today I had the chicken & waffle plate; the waffle was light & slightly crispy; the chicken tenders were fresh & the coating was well seasoned & crispy. My husband had the breakfast platter with grits, eggs, sausage, bacon & ham with a side of whole wheat toast. Our server today was Lacy, she was a real sweetheart & took good care of us. Mama's isn't fine dining, it's good ole home style cooking served with kindness & courtesy. We'll be back, I need to try the corned beef sandwich. read more

I ordered the veggie omelet with 3 pancakes, and it was so delicious. My friend ordered the green machine omelet with hashbrowns and toast. Hashbrown wasn't as crispy as they could have been, but it's okay it was still good. Service was a bit slow, but I understood how busy they were at breakfast time. Mamas is a dine in Coney Island. They have expanded their breakfast menu. The food was great! We went and it was pretty busy. I little rough around the edges but bomb food! Great customer service, packed restaurant with great vibes! Food hot, fresh and made to order. Parking right next to the restaurant, my husband enjoyed his Strawberry lemonade and my coffee was hot and the French vanilla creamer was a plus! Wow. Did I say wow? Visiting Motor City again with my lady. Had to find a non chain place to fill our hunger needs before driving up to the UP. MAMA'S it's the real deal. Staff very attentive, Tiara was amazing. She doesn't need to wear a tiara, she is a crown. Great personality and great service. Now the food. The juiciest chicken tenders on the planet. No joke. We got 5 plates of different food because I wanted the whole menu. Waffles, biscuits gravy, potato pancakes, corned beef hash. This is the best breakfast I have had in Detroit so far. And it will be hard to beat. We will be back. read more

My only issue with Mama's is the way they are careless about securing food through delivery services. They don't staple the bag closed (to prevent tampering), they don't put staple the receipt to the closed bad (again...to prevent tampering), and ultimately, they obviously don't care about the security of their customers experience. Door Dash drivers are just Independent Contractors alone in their vehicle with your food. That is not the same as the employees at your establishment. They can do ANYTHING to your food with EASE because you won't take the time to add additional security measure (TIE AND STAPLE THE BAG SHUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). It's lazy and poor customer service. It takes no time for you to quickly secure ALL outsourced orders. I will be up there ASAP to inform your owner of the exact same thing. This is not acceptable....EVER!!!!!! read more

Driver offered to go back if I could contact restaurant but they refused to answer phone or it would go to busy signal. 2nd time this restaurant got order wrong for me. I got a skillet with eggs over easy from DoorDash and the eggs were perfect HOW DID THEY DO IT? My new go to is chicken fried steak with the biscuits (and a side of gravy) but on my last visit I got buttermilk chicken tenders and waffle. Another 4 star review that I don't give out all the time on what I consider 'fast food'. Today it was well deserved! Last time I was here, it was pretty good for a coney place with a fast kitchen. Today was much better, I believe about a year later. Nowadays, I'm pregnant and EXTREMELY PICKY with everything. I usually order food every day randomly by my cravings... take 2 bites, and lose interest or feel sick. Grease is a BIG NO NO right now. So I called my order in... a bacon egg cheese on an English muffin, with hash browns. Simple right?! Lol!! Not me!! The muffin had to be toasted a lil bit crispy but not burnt, bacon cooked recently-crispy not burnt or old and not soft, egg cooked like McDonald's where the yolk and egg cooked but not scrambled and cooked (omg poor people :'(..... and hash browns crispy and fresh but not too crispy still some soft to it... not burnt or swimming in oil. Yes I left a nice tip!! They definitely deserved it!! Especially when I got home and everything was PERFECT!! Only needed my own utensils... no big deal. Ask if you need them. And I was so embarrassed by my order based on pregnancy mood OCD, but the girl was still so friendly and when I apologized said don't worry about it it's ok no problem we got it. God Bless you for understanding! (She must've been pregnant before!!) Me and a fellow pilot had a trip that took us to Detroit mid February. After we dropped our passengers off we wanted to get a bite for breakfast. Oh Man did we hit the spot. First our waitress was great, she was on top of everything. Not being from the area I let her make a recommendation. She suggested a breakfast bowl. I further wanted something sweet and she suggested the cinnamon roll. I don't know what they do to there food but they truly are putting their heart and soul in it. Everything was fresh and holy cow the flavor cannot be explained in words. I thanked her so much. Later on I was home and went to use my debit card and it was gone. Through some research it was left in Detroit at Mamas. I called there and spoke to the waitress that stated they still had it. This type of care and responsibility does not go unnoticed. I understand the place being popular but the quality of food should be excellent. Grits were thick not cooked all the way, pancakes flat yet dry and ordered two omelets both were dry flat and not tasteful at all. I know people don't cook anymore but try to remember when you favorite person in life cooked something that made your stomach smile. Trust me this place is no where near a happy stomach. I love in the area and was looking for a quick, tasty, late, brunch and Mamas restaurant was the perfect little diner in the city. Good classic breakfast. We knew of this spot a few years back and since COVID-19 our main breakfast spot is closed. We have kind of "rediscovered" this gem. Just left this restaurant for breakfast. I totally understand we are in the midst of a pandemic however if a restaurant is going to opened for dine in seating they MUST abide by safety rules. First thing I noticed was most of the waitresses were not wearing masks the ones that did have one on it was not covering their mouth and nose. I saw the cook without a mask on they did not have social distancing as far as seating waiting in restaurant or anything. We could sit anywhere. That was the most dangerous thing I've ever seen. We took our food to go and I told the waitress what the problem was and why we were leaving she knew exactly what the rules were but did not make her bosses or anyone in that establishment abide! I filed a complaint with the state and I hope they get it together so many lives are at risk including the employees. I'm truly disappointed in this restaurant and I will never visit their again it's really unfortunate read more
