Sometimes you just gotta have a big'ol stack of Pancakes people and there's no better place on the freakin planet to get your FILL than over at the OG Pancake House. All kinds of Retro Classic Diner vibes emanate all throughout this timeless restaurant from their unmistakable oldies tunes playing in the background to their classic style leather booths, this place is unquestionably a local landmark. Friends of mine have named this as one of the best breakfast spots around and I couldn't agree more with them, whole heartedly in fact. Currently I've become a huge fan of their Blueberry Pancakes which are outstanding and have kind of crepe-like texture to them. They're made with fresh picked berries from Hammonton NJ baked-in and topped with real Blueberry Syrup for the win. We're talking about some seriously epic YUMMMMMMERS !! As you would expect they serve an excellent eye opening Freshly Brewed Dark Roast Coffee here and also offer lighter blends for customers looking for a milder less intense brew. [ lightweights ] jk Lol Even the complimentary water that they serve here is exceptional and unbelievably refreshing: eco-friendly Blue Drop Water- yes please and thank you. Service here is always friendly fast and efficient ask for Michelle L she is a Rockstar. You'll find plenty of parking available with easy access to Bloomfield Avenue. Come And Get Your Munch On!!
We returned here yesterday for a girls date. It's one of my step daughters favorite place. I, of course had the pancakes and eggs. They have the absolute best pancakes ever. She ordered the special Nutella stuffed French toast and loved it. She also loved the fresh squeezed orange juice and the thick bacon. The coffee was amazing also. Run here
To be honest, as much as I love the idea of a diner, I'm not a huge fan of breakfast/diner food and so I thought my food was just ok. HOWEVER, I REALLY liked the mini dutch garden and I would come back just to order that again.
The best pancakes in town. The homemade whipped cream and strawberries were wonderful. Everything on the menu was delicious We are always greeted with friendly and amazing service. Nice home like feel. I love the decor. It's my go to for breakfast when I visit
During my visit, I experience good customer service; employees are kind and helpful with navigating the Vegan options of the menu/eatery. The Vegan pancakes are tasty (fluffy and light, with subtle sweetness). The bananas and strawberries may suffice, adding sweeter more wholesome flavors to each bite. Even so, the establishment has in-house syrup and strawberry syrup (which tastes like hot strawberry jam) to add a different sharper sweetness. One may have to double check with the eatery to discover if the whipped cream is Vegan. The meal is filling and tastes delicious two days later after a reheating from a refrigerator. Chill vibes. The establishment offers a variety of seating options. The establishment accepts different forms of payment.

The coffee was A+ and served in the cutest original pancake house mugs. It stood out to me how they asked if you would like dark or medium roast coffee. They clearly take pride in what they are brewing nowadays! I felt obligated to order pancakes since it's in the name. I opted for the 2 X 4 which was 2 eggs and 4 pancakes. This was a nice portion. The pancakes are on the smaller side so I understand why an order comes with more than the standard diner 3. They were delicious and satisfied my pancake craving. You could tell they were fresh and the food came out hot. The prices here are very reasonable in my opinion. You can come for breakfast without spending a fortune. I enjoyed this meal and will return.
This was my first time visiting for a late breakfast on a Sunday afternoon; well worth the 20 minute wait! Our server was very lovely and swift. We ordered 2 eggs and sausage with hash browns and toast for extra charges. We also ordered the egg skillet which is honestly a dish big enough for 2. Both came with an order of buttermilk pancakes which were heaven sent! What blew my mind was the apple pancake! It's not so much of a pancake consistency, but more like a bread pudding texture with warm caramelized apples on top! To drink, we ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. Despite the wait times for seating, this is a great diner for classic breakfast!
Our very first visit to the OPH in West Caldwell and they 'may have' the very best tasting and lightest pancakes we have ever had. The service is 5 stars and the atmosphere is amazing. We will definitely return to have the short stack pancakes and their fresh farm sourced pork sausages.
There's nothing fancy about the Original Pancake House, and that's as it should be. The food is fresh, entirely homemade, hot, comforting and 100% delicious. The service is welcoming and friendly. They greet you like family, but family that actually likes having you as guests. The restaurant is starting to show it's age a bit, but it still clean and comfortable and absolutely fine for a breakfast place. There are plenty of tables and even when the parking lot is full you'll seldom have much of a wait. The food is definitely a step up from what you'd get in a diner. The pancakes are great (and in a place called the Orginal Pancake House, they'd better be). I went old school and had blueberry pancakes. They were packed with fresh blueberries. The were large, fluffy and perfectly cooked. On my next visit I had their famous Apple Pancake, which was delicious, filling and very rich. It was quite sweet and ate more like a dessert than a breakfast. I'd recommend ordering one to share with the table (which is what we did on our next visit). My mother ordered the Mini Dutch Garden, which is sort of like an airy baked omelet mixed with eggs, cheese and garden vegetables. It's fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. We all liked it so much, we've ordered it on every subsequent visit. The coffee is hot and strong and the refills are frequent. I can't say enough good things about Original Pancake House. It's one of our favorite breakfast places. They even have freshly squeezed orange juice!
Original Pancake House never disappoints. Even on a busy Sunday we received great service and the food came out quick. The pancakes were as always and their Corned Beef Hash was very tasty.
Huge portions of tasty breakfast foods in a homey diner space with awesome service. We had the apple pancake, original skillet, and a side of buttermilk pancakes and sausage. Everything came out piping hot and the apple pancake is basically like a glorified apple pie except the crust is pancake/Dutch baby - it's fluffy, layered with caramelized cinnamon apples, and as big as a full dinner plate. The original skillet sated my savory cravings, but it was very heavy and felt like a bit of a gut bomb later. Coffee was diner coffee so kina meh, but they did a good job keeping your mug warmed with a fresh coffee topper. The space itself has sort of an 80's diner-grandma feel, but in a comforting cozy kind of way. Our server was fast, friendly and helpful, and seemed genuinely sweet. Would return but downsize on # of items since portions are ginormous.

But what really makes this place unique is the warm syrup, pancakes, and bacon strips. The pancakes are light and taste amazing. The bacon is a perfect size and cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my breakfast very much and will be returning to try other things.
We had 3 buttermilk short stack pancakes and 2 sausages. Best pancakes I ever ate. The service was remarkable. They were very busy. It is pretty big inside. We will return when we are in the mood for pancakes.
For a diner I'll have to give 5 stars. The service was phenomenal and the portion sizes were huge. And when we said it was our first time, they gave us their signature apple pancake for free. Would recommend for anyone wanting classic diner fair. read more

I have been going to this place since high school back when they hosted "Pi Day" on March 14th and it has been consistent every. Single. Time. The food is ALWAYS piping hot and fresh and the blueberry pancakes are my favorite. Fresh syrup compote and blueberry's actually put into them. Have it with a glass of their fresh squeezed orange juice. Weekends are busy so try and get there on the earlier side. And if you can, sit in the sunroom area, or the right side where the Tiffany lamps are. Pharmacist approved! read more

The service is always quick attentive and pleasant. The side of bacon is a little in the thicker side and worth an order ! The egg skillet is perfect to split between two people as it's so heavy and a lot is given. The pecan pancakes with their houseman whipped cream is to die for. 10/10 as always read more

So this was the first original house of pancakes established in the state of New Jersey, and I must say I was impressed with the food. I tried their coconut pancakes with the special made syrup for it, and I must say they always amaze my taste buds. Also tried the strawberry pancakes with special strawberry syrup . The service from the waitress I received was exceptional. She was very attentive even when the food come came out she noticed a part of the order was missing so the staff was very attentive to detail on the order. The ambience is just like an old rustic diner, but it made Everything worth the while for the visit. read more
Still thinking about the pancakes from Sunday. The building is nothing to look at from the outside and its dated appearance prevented me from stopping sooner. How regretable for me! The food the kitchen turns out is very good. We went on a Sunday and it was very busy. We waited about 30 minutes before being seated. Our waitress was attentive and organized. My friend and I got the same entrée. It was The Essex Special: two pancakes, 2 Eggs your Way and either sausage or bacon. The pancakes were delicate and addictive. I regretted not getting more. Typically pancakes are dry and peel from the inside. These did not! They were served with their house made maple syrup. I swear it has bourbon. It was so good but a little thin so be careful when pouring. If you don't like a bourbon flavor, perhaps ask if they have traditional flavored syrup. The sausage was cooked perfectly as were my eggs. We both got iced coffees. They were OK. It's not a fancy place. Inside is vintage decor and an old school diner feel. Family friend, relaxed atmosphere. Sundays are very busy. This pancake house was awesome! At first I didn't know what I wanted from the menu because they had so many options for pancakes that I haven't heard of. This is the first time I've ever had red velvet pancakes and I loved it. They also made the best freshly squeezed orange juice I've ever had in my life. There was so little amount of pulp but a lot of flavor. The service was very nice and the staff is very polite. The manager went to our table to help us when our server was getting food for us. This place is awesome and I'd definitely recommend going here! read more
This is definitely a staple in NJ. So many options and those pancakes and portions were amazing. I want to go back and try the apple pancake because OMG it looked amazing. Love this place for breakfast. This location has real diner vibes. There are no reservations but they seated a party of 5 pretty quickly. They do require your entire party to be there before they put you on a list. I decided to go for the mini Dutch which is amazing and I'm glad they didn't over cook it. It's almost custard like. I got to try the blueberry pancakes which has a really yummy blueberry sauce, the Swedish pancakes and the Nutella pancakes and they were all good. The coffee was a little burnt but not terrible. Overall a great place for breakfast! read more

I suggest you get here early on a weekend or just expect to wait. NO reservations Ample parking Came on a weekend, party of 3 and had a wait of about 45 minutes, and it was worth it. Our server was friendly and made sure to check on us frequently enough that she wasn't annoying. The food was perfect, everything was cooked to perfection. Bacon was cooked nice and lite how I like it, pancakes were fluffy, French toast was cooked perfectly. Definitely a great spot to stop for some good breakfast. read more

Don't let the exterior or interior decor fool you. This place is always busy. Our wait was 25 minutes. They keep it moving along. People said Sundays are worse. Their pancakes are very tasty. The eggs were fresh and didn't seem like they came from the box. My son enjoyed his pancakes. It is actually a pretty big plate for a kid size. The Omlette was very well stuffed. Took my honey out for a quick anniversary lunch before picking up our son from school. Service was fast, friendly, on point and we enjoyed our choices immensely! I had the football-sized vegetarian omelette with a side of thick-sliced bacon. It was awesome. My wife got her usual, the apple pancake, which is an enormous soufflé-like apple pancake with amazing flavor. Highly recommend that dish! We'll be back! We love this and their Edgewater location. This place is great for a brunch or family breakfast definitely has an old-school type of vibe. My husband ordered the steak and eggs as per as usual with a short stack and a side of bacon. I had blueberry pancakes, which I was actually very impressed by because they had whole chunks of blueberries in them. I'm not a huge fan of Dutch babies but I saw someone order one next to me so I think next time I will try one! read more

They don't take reservations and there's usually a longer wait on the weekends. So, I would say no to your question. That being said, they me take a reservation for a large party, but you should call them.
