This bistro was formerly 'The Verona Diner' and I admit I never frequented it. I always envisioned it on the small side, but when I recently visited, the interior surprised me with well over ten tables and booths (plus a dining counter). The Verona American Grill comes across as a recently-renovated, cute cafe with a new menu, yet still having some diner-ish style dishes. I ordered a cheeseburger and it came with fries and coleslaw. The presentation was really nice, near perfect if the fries were warmer. The cheeseburger was excellent and cole slaw was fresh. Add some points for service and hospitality, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this business for breakfast/lunch/dinner. read more

This used to be my absolute favorite diner, but lately the menu changes have been disappointing. The first time I came, I had the best shoestring fries I've ever had--crisp, thin, and perfect. The next time I came back, they had already been swapped out for regular fries. Still, I became a regular and found my go-to favorites: the Cuban, the short rib tacos, and the short rib grilled cheese. When I came in today, all of those items were gone from the menu. I ended up just having a coffee and leaving. Removing staples like slow-cooked pork or beef feels like an odd choice. I understand times are hard for restaurants and costs are high, but those dishes are what made this place unique and worth seeking out. Shrimp tacos or regular burgers I can get at any diner. Please seriously consider bringing back the old menu items that set you apart. read more

We stopped by this cute place, which was enjoyable. The tables had pretty flowers, and the place was warm and welcoming. The staff was very friendly. As we waited, they offered homemade chips, which were very good. We ordered homemade bread, burgers, and fries, which were all very good. The presentation was very nice, too. I used to come here when it was the Verona Diner. They have updated the interior and it's still cute inside. Our host was very friendly and pleasant and our server was nice. Most of my negative feedback comes from the food itself and the cost. We ordered the Beef Stroganoff Gnocchi to split. The food was disappointing was there were very few gnocchi, little to no beef, and a ton of mushrooms. The taste was decent and the gnocchi I did have were good. This entree costs $30 dollars which is a bit ridiculous for the quality and quantity of the food. There was no bread for the table nor side salad. I also want to add that their menu is small and could be diversified. I don't think I would come back here and I wouldn't recommend it for dinner. Maybe the breakfast is better. read more

False advertisement with the online picture has fried chicken and waffles, I received badly over breaded and cooked fried chicken cutlet where was my fried chicken wings as shown online? Overpriced and the service was bad because the waitress rolled her eyes at us as we entered and was passed to another waiter because ah couldn't stomach us in her restaurant. We were never feeling welcomed and had to continue to flag our waiter down to get any additional services like he couldn't check on us in a timely fashion. Also, be warned to pay with CASH ONLY as the waiter added an additional tip on my bill where is was less than $50 dollars for a party of two. Just not right at all and not welcoming to African-American folks as I and my wife witness the difference in service from us and neighboring Caucasian customers. How can we arrive 15 minutes before them but yet get our food made 10 minutes received after thy already got their food which was similar food in getting breakfast type of food. Did this restaurant acquire a new owner last year or earlier? My husband and I stopped by yesterday and noticed the change in ambiance. I ordered Avocado toast and asked that the eggs be cooked over easy. There was barely any avocado on the whole grain bread and the eggs were lukewarm and runny. Good thing the waitress wrote down what I wanted. She came back to check and I said it was not what I ordered. Let's just say that we will not return to this restaurant. Picked up dinner from there tonight as was recommended to my wife for quick dinner. I must say. Pleasantly surprised. Decorated very cute and inviting. Waitresses were very nice greeted me with a smile and handled the takeout efficiently We split a steak sandwich with Chimichurri on side as I am allergic to cilantro and a burger. Both were cooked medium rare as requested and were accompanied with fries. The Verona American Grill, know to locals at "The Vag" has become a hot spot in town. It is a quaint bistro with excellent service and food. It is the type of place where you really want the owners to do well because they are so nice and appreciate your business. My girlfriend and I hit the Vag once a week for breakfast or lunch and we always leave happy. Everything is really good, but I am addicted to their shrimp tacos. Parking can be a bit of an issue on Bloomfield Ave in Verona, but not here. There is a parking lot in the back that is just a few steps from the entrance. If you try the Verona American Grill, I guarantee it will become one of your "Go To" spots. read more

This is a cute little diner with friendly service and delicious food that's reasonably priced. You seat yourself here which is both good and bad but I'll let you form your own opinion! The dining area is rather small so it's extremely tight in there. This diner was recently renovated and the new decor will make you feel at home! Super comfy throw pillows in the booths? Yes, please! Everything we ordered was pretty good! I don't know what they use to make their French toast, but it was amazing! The eggs were fresh and good and so were the pancakes! The home fries were tasteless and came out cold. Also, they give you those small cups of Smuckers syrup which was a little disappointing. The waitress we had was extremely busy, yet attentive which was impressive! They have several teenagers working here who were all very nice and helpful. There's plenty of free parking in the back! You pay on your way out the door, so don't wait for your waitress to come back and pick up the check. The prices here are GREAT! The bill for the 3 of us was only $28. The reason for the low review is the long white hair I pulled out of my mouth with my waiter staring in stunned disbelief. They offered to replace my entree but did not offer to comp my food. We were jut looking for a little breakfast during our NJ visit, decided to find a diner and ended up here. What is this heaven? This place definitely knows that ambiance really goes a long way. Our server was pleasant, and service was timely. I had a Corned Beef Hash Benny (that's an egg's benedict with a little flair). The english muffin was a tad burnt on one half and the corned beef hash could use a little salt, but the eggs were perfectly poached and overall it tasted fine. Well as soon as we opened the door we knew this wasn't the old diner. This is now an upscale eatery with a calm tastefully appointed dining area. It's a hybrid kind of a place. A diner, restaurant, cafe, mashup. Featuring a small, well thought out menu varied enough that I think covers most dining preferences. I had the fried chicken sandwich. A plump, juicy, fried chicken breast with just the right amount of perfectly seasoned breading topped with coleslaw, pickles all wrapped into a fresh brioche bun. Served with a side of golden fries. Easily the best fried chicken sandwich I have ever had. My wife ordered the crunch burger which was outstanding as well. Plus great coffee to boot. Very nice and attentive wait staff. I got an omelette with home fries. Nothing fancy but they made it fancy by sprinkling tiny chopped bell peppers on the fries. The fries were awesome, super crispy on the outside and like pillows on the inside. Also had a burger which comes with thin fries, pickle and coleslaw. Also the veggie wrap had thin fries.
