Didn't take care of my mice but tried to sell pest control. Proceed with caution. Very fast response

So here's the thing with Orkin. First of all, when they sent the document basically wanting blanket auth to charge anything they wanted on my card...no. I refused to sign that, instead I pay by check for each service. You need to know your rights - you are NOT required to give them a credit/debit card nor should you. I understand in this era of fast payments you don't want to write a check - you go right ahead and give that card while they charge endlessly to where you're forced to do a stop. Go right ahead. I digress. Second, the techs (both of them) were respectful, polite and seemed to want to do the best job. The problem is procedure. Orkin is a "spray and pray" service. They don't triage to understand EXACTLY what's wrong. They'll tell you "oh, that's a free service if you want it", then charge you to fix it. So the spray guys are essentially just spraying chemicals with unknown health impacts to the residents and without understanding whether it's even necessary to begin with. The first guy was specifically told that I needed to understand how insects are even getting in to begin with. He said he would look around. After he was done, he mentioned he had placed stick traps and to keep an eye out. The problem with this: he placed stick traps at two of the window wells that, when the wind really kicked up, I observed that basically there was a 6-inch gap between the floor joist and the well glass, such that you could even stick your arm completely out. He never brought this to attention, but it means there was no way he checked. I remediated these myself with R38. Insects are still present outside with no noticeable decrease. 90% decrease of insects inside the basement (after my insulation install). So that was $150 for (basically) four stick traps that cost about $20 total. Second guy comes, and I tell him to just spray the outside since the inside was an oversight of the first guy and not an actual interior infestation. He shakes his head (at the ineptitude of the first guy), apologizes that happened, the proceeds to spray. The problem with this: he never asked about specific types of insects. The invoice said that he sprayed for spiders only. While it is true that there's a bit of a spider problem, there are way more problems, such as flies that congregate around the outdoor lights, ladybugs (this is a BIG problem), silverfish, and other crawly type insects. So another $100 for a service that didn't cover the actual problem. Someone reached out after I submitted a service review, and I explained the oversight of the first guy (the second guy was just doing his job and never made any direct promises or statements of what he would do). She says, basically, that they don't look for problems, they just spray, it's another group that actually looks for problems. Just like it's another group that does sealing, etc. I told them to cancel immediately (and they don't have my card, so they don't have a choice in the matter). In summary: Orkin's "spray and pray" might work for less aware homeowners, maybe? But it's not the right answer. What they need to do is create a task force approach: - Assessment guy (or gal) goes out there WITH the spray guy (or gal) and WITH the insulation guy (or gal) to do a walkthrough of all known problems. - Assessment person makes a plan with the other two about how they're going to solve the problem. - Between the three of them they rotate visits doing their thing while Assessment person continually checks for needed adjustments to the plan, until the situation is solved. I know why they don't do this. It's because their charges are 95% labor. To do it right, they would need to charge you $500/visit, and they know most homeowners won't do that (because most homeowners won't pay unless and until they know it's fixed). The way you solve that is with a lien if they don't pay. Either way, I would never recommend this. And I'm aware that Terminix and others do basically the same thing. read more

Last May (this is now November) I called to have my mouse problem resolved. They inspected and found a few places )gave me pictires) where they could be getting in. Said they could put up thei "exclusion" defence but it would cost $4500. Wow! They also tried to sell me a contract for monthy visits. They told me I could cancel anytime. I read the contract and it was for a year with automatic renewal. To be sure, I called the national number. The person who answered said it WAS a 1 year contract. When I asked the tech, he swore it was NOT a contract. Well I still had mice so I paid for the exclusion service but nit the yearly contract. I thought my problems were over, until now. The mice have returned. The "exclusion" didn't work. I call my local office. No one answered and no one returned my call. Cannot recommend them fo anything. read more

I have been trying to get a simple quote from Orkin for the last month. One day 4 of their people called to see what service I needed but can't get any of them to send a quote in writing. Assuming they just don't want my business. Sad, because I live in a condo and our complex has 16 buildings. It could have possibly been a very profitable referral IF the customer service was better. Orkin is a major rip-off ! My initial inspection ( for mice ) cost me $295, and all they did was set a few traps and put out poison pellets, which I had already been doing! And then try to sell you an expensive monthly plan - NO THANKS ! As a senior on a fixed income, that $295 for nothing was bad enough! read more

Horrible service, they will do the minimum for big money. It will cost you A LOT for a lazy lazy work. I had them because I had rodents in my home. They come put a little mesh in some of the wholes after months of paying a fee (hundreds) I still have rodents in my home. They said, if you want us to do more about it it will cost you around )4,000 WtH! read more

Bed bug treatments repeatedly did not work. My biggest complaint was they do not schedule a time or will call ahead! I need to get into a wheelchair so I need a time or advance notice. read more

Crappy service. I have rodents and ordered the exclusion package all they did was put mesh in to cover a few holes. The first time they shows up the tech reked of alcohol. I had to call them back because I am still experiencing rodents and they said they would come out on Monday April 22 and no one showed up. I sent them emails and also called and have no response. They are not a good company to use if you have rodents. read more

I am giving a 2 star as I have mixed experiences with Orkin- they are a 5 for mosquito control. However they are a 1 star for bee's/wasps. I was charged $250 +$300 = $550 for "crawling/flying and stinging insects". They were at my home for less than a half hour! The ants are gone. However, my husband has had to handle the bee's (see attached photo's of bee's we have killed either via a bug zapper/spray or vacuum method AFTER Orkin was here. I called to ask why I received 2 invoices for one short visit. I was told Manager would call me back (never received call). Really Orkin $550???? read more

This is my first service with Orkin. They have a variety of price options and services. I like that you can cancel at any time and can also call when you need them for a touch up. Anthony came out on time. He called on his way and was very professional. He completed the entire house inside and out in timely manner. He answered questions I had. I'm hoping to see less bugs soon. read more

Orin Milwaukee terrible, incompetent from the phone people to the technician. Came, did WRONG service. Had to stop them spraying our yard for mosquitoes which we NEVER ordered when we needed a huge hornets nest removed. Four hours of phone calls later, five days later, hornets nest still there. read more

I have Orkin coming out to my house for a service the first time they were supposed to come I took off work and they never showed up. The representative lied and said they called me and left a message. This did not happen at all so I missed a half day of work for nothing. Then when they finally came out serviced my house the tech reassured me the problem was taken care of and they still have a follow up to treat again just to be sure. Now lets fast forward two weeks later, for the follow up they came they treated I asked all kinds of questions and again they reassured me the problem was well taken care of. Well guess what last night we found out the problem was no where near taken care of and they want me to pay them a lot of money for the crappy service. Do not use Orkin!!! I called with an active ant problem and got an appointment the following day between 4-6. Well 6 came around and nobody showed up. I called and they were closed. The next day I called to speak to a manager to discuss what happened and reschedule. Then I called 2 more times. Still no response. They also tried to charge me over $300 for an initial visit, which a friend got for $150. Once I told them that, they found a magical "coupon." I had the Orkin shield put on my house March 17, 2021 and service March 30th. On April 24th a family member found a SNAKE in my basement and was able to throw it outside. I have called Orkin about this. Ben won't answer or return my calls. Orkin sent out someone April 26th to spray for mosquitoes and on April 28th to spray snake away outside and check basemen. APRIL 30th Ben said someone who put shield on the house would be here that day and he would call back right away. No one showed and no call back.. May 4th I called Orkin and they scheduled Shane who put on the shield to come May 5th Between 10:00-12:00. NO SHOW,! I called Orkin and they said that was a mistake. Horrible service. Got scammed. They claimed a free estimates but got charged 100$ for nothing.. the inspection was a joke! He didn't do a thing. Never looked for anything! Was on a call during the "inspection". Didn't find a thing. Don't waste your time or money. A joke read more

Well tis the season that little mice may invade your home. If they do, don't call Orkin! I am so disappointed with the service and results. They talk a real good talk, slap a one year contract on you then don't follow through. I was told to call as often as necessary in between services if I continued to see little rodents running around or even if I found a random dead mouse in the middle of my kitchen and didn't want to pick it up. They ensured me they would come out promptly. I called and it will be one whole week until they can come out. We have ended up just setting our own traps and have been trying to rectify the problem ourselves. I have a hard time believing that the 3 bait traps they put in our house is adequate enough to void a mouse problem in a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath house . Save your money and call a real professional or Do it yourself. read more

I should have known from the beginning this was not going to work out. We just moved into our home and had an issue with ticks and mosquitoes. After calling 3 places for quotes, we decided orkin would be best. They guarantee they will re-spray if you are unsatisfied, you can schedule sprays for specific days, prices weren't the greatest but seemed worth it. We received 2 sprays- 1 in June and 1 in July. The spray did absolutely nothing. We were still having major mosquito issues within ONE DAY of the spray. I called several times, put in several email inquiries about the sprays not being effective. Zero response other than, "want to schedule your next spray?" (Implying for next month, not a re-spray that's "guaranteed"). Requested a spray for Aug 6th, absolutely no response yet again. Luckily, after speaking to a neighbor, we went another direction. I called orkin to cancel services on Tuesday, the rep said someone would call me Wednesday to verify cancellation. Big surprise, no phone call. I called today (Thursday) and the rep said "yeah, this isn't cancelled". Unbelievable. Let's hope it's cancelled this time because apparently they don't provide proof of cancellation either...save yourself the headache read more

My rating is for Orkin overall but also the local branches. I called Orkin because they are a well known brand to sign up for their initial service and on going monthly program. When I signed up on line, they sent me an email with the local branch number--I called that number to ask them a question--left two voicemails and no return call. On the day of my appt, a different location called me at the time they were supposed to be here to ask if I could re-schedule because they were too backed up. I said fine and re-scheduled from Thu to Monday 2-4pm. I called the office today at 3pm when they hadn't showed up to confirm and they confirmed they would be here during my time slot. At 4:28pm, I called the office, no answer so I called the national line to cancel. I got a rep who did proceed with cancelling but they are not very apologetic or re-assuring. I am extremely disappointed and surprised at how unprofessional and relaxed they are about customer service....oh and now I just listened to a vm from the technician that left it at 4:36pm saying he was in my area and should be here in 10 mins, again no apologies for being late by 40 mins. read more

We have been long term customers of Orkin and likely for not for much longer. I agree with a previous review that they talk a good talk and no follow through. They were out two weeks ago for mice invasion. It has been a little over one week and mice still a problem. Have been waiting for two days for a return call and no one is available to take the call. Instructed to call back tomorrow. I would not recommend them, save your money their claim to have scientific, detailed "pest control down to a science" is not true. read more

I called and scheduled an apt with orkin. The technician called and had to reschedule the original date. Well talking with the technician we discovered that my address was wrong and located my residence in another state. I was informed he would have someone call to have my address corrected and reschedule. I ended up calling and rescheduling. On the day of the appointment I arrived 30 minutes early and past a orkin technician parked on the side of my road. 30 minutes after the scheduled time I received a call from a dispatcher tell me we have to reschedule due to overbooking. I was upset. Between all the mix-ups it was already about a month before this appointment. Now, I drove past the orkin car parked on the side of my road and a hour later and (30 minutes late for the appointment), I received a call that I have to reschedule. The person on the phone apologize, but was obviously didn't care. read more
