We have been Orkin customers for many years now. As time has gone on the service appears to degrade, while service costs continue increasing. The Pittsfield, Massachusetts branch is a particularly vexing place to deal with. Whoever is in charge there needs to turn in his Sergeant stripes, and perhaps go for corporal, maybe even PFC (private first class). When one calls, as in this morning, all this guy wants to do is get YOU off the phone. He could give a rat's 'patuki', and his phone manner is indicative of such indifference. You know the attitude- it's like yeah , so what, but with that phony veneer to sound nice. Our exterminator did not show up- called in sick. Fair enough. However, the thought of the Orkin Pittsfield office contacting us to let us know, never occurred to this guy. We altered our very, very busy schedules to accommodate this business. What is keeping us with them is their one exterminator employee, John, who is the only one of the Orkin types I will let into my home. The last exterminator never finished the job as I threw him out after catching him in some kind of inventory in my basement. The exterminator before him , we caught not doing the outside spraying-lazy, lazy man. No steak & no sizzle in him either. I harbor serious doubts about ORKIN's policy & procedures regarding new hires, after throwing the dirt-bag doing inventory out of here. What a man needs to know before letting any other man in my home is this: Is my wife safe? Is my home safe? Is the exterminator here in the country legally? As far as we're concerned, this is not a reliable or trustworthy business. Their employee however, John, is welcome here. Does a good job, is focused, and answers questions. The best way to deal with a company like this at the administrative level is to keep your foot right up their ass. On the operational level, they could use a whole platoon of employees like John. The one star is for your employee guys, cuz he represents you so well. I'm a retired military man and have little tolerance for lethargy, laziness and indifference. If I could give a negative review I would. The tech, Bruce, never scheduled appointments and if he saw me then he'd jump in his car and drive off. Last year or more of contract he never went in house. Now the carpenter ants we originally hired them for are back and have done lots of damage. read more

I hired Orkin to eliminate lady bugs, I think they're actually called potato bugs. I have done this every year in August for about 5 years, but this is the first time I tried Orkin. 5 weeks after Orkin treated the house it was swarmed with lady bugs. I called the company and they said "sorry, the warranty was for 4 weeks." I paid $275 for the treatment. This has never happened before with the other companies I used. Additionally, they sprayed all of my windows and it took 3 people to wash all the windows the day after they came! In the meantime the darn bugs are still in the house. The rep told me that many people were calling and he was telling them to go outside and hose their houses down! First of all, that's not going to kill them! Second of all, what did I pay $275 for? What a rip off! So much for my bright idea of using a nationally known brand name. They are the worst of the lot! Never again! read more

Should have read the reviews before trying this company. I took a word of mouth recommendation unfortunately. First, rescheduled FOUR times due to both weather and "traffic" (in the Berkshires...). Then charged $150 for a tick and mosquito spray. I maybe saw a slight improvement, but I'm still swamped with mosquitos and pulling ticks off my cat, who I also treat preventively for ticks. We have had Orkin for awhile now. Recently we had a someone else become our new tech. He was so-so at best, I'm not a fan. Bland best describes him, didn't really do anything at all. Let me say our old tech was absolutely wonderful! Friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and we never had any pest problems with him taking care of our house. He would remember what we .talked about 2 months ago and continue the conservation. Remembered the names of our dogs who loved him. I was told he was fired for oversleeping 2 hours for a weekend shift. Absolutely ridiculous, whatever jackass fired him was probably scared he was going to take his job, that's how much potential that young man had. This was far the worst company , my parents in Springfield ma have been giving this company bussiness for some time, but last week , we waiting for them to show up and when my parents called they were told they came already and finished the work, my dad told them not possible weve been waiting, all morning .after talking to manager dad was called a liar, another thing is that i was in the drive way the whole time waiting and sitting with baby and they never showed up, some times workers get busy and take longer than exspected and dont want the boss to know ,but for both him and the boss to lie is un believable.. So I called a few weeks ago because a huge nest of bees moved into a hole in siding of a house that I Airbnb. Orkin scheduled an appointment for the next day between 2-4. So I rearranged my schedule the next day and waited. No one showed by 4 so I called and the girl told me it was a "request" not an appt, Ummm NO, the person that scheduled put me on hold and actually spoke to the guy that said he could def come the next day at that time. So now I'm mad for waisted time but say they can come the next day. I can't meet them the next day but get a text from the tech and tell him he can go there and treat from the outside as he recommended. That was a Friday. He gave me his cell and said" if you see any activity, call me and I'll come back and retreat". Well the guest was calling the next day as the mass of bees hadnt changed(probably never came) , so I texted him and he said he would come back the next day. He never did(more wasted time) , sent another text, no response so I called the office again. They took my cell and said they would call the next day with what time they can come the next day. They never called. It's been over a week now. I have sprayed over 8 cans of hornet/wasp spray in it to try and keep my guests safe but i truly can't stand Orkin. I now believe they never even came the one time I couldn't be there because there are still hundreds of bees pushing in the hole and out of the hole at the same time. DO NOT USE ORKIN! read more

I recently found two bed bugs in my bed and immediately called Orkin, as they do my monthly servicing. Upon confirmation that they were in fact bed bugs, recommendation was just to dry all bedding in that bedroom and vacuum carefully in the room. NO FUMIGATION was advised. After insisting another technician come out, it was determined bed bugs were in two bedrooms and now entire house needed to be treated. So in the course of one day we went from no treatment to entire house. This is my second home and I also had infestation in my primary residence in NY. The cost in NY to treat was less than 2/3 of the cost in the Berkshires for the SAME service. In fact, the furniture in NY was put back in place after second treatment, but not in MA. The claim from service manager was they were afraid of damaging items if they moved the furniture back in place. They had to initially move the furniture to spray, so why weren't they concerned about damages then????? I advise getting a variety of quotes for any service before using Orkin. They will totally take advantage of you if you don't. If I could give negative stars for their service, I would. read more
