Went to Orleans for brunch a few Sundays ago. We were there 15 minutes before they opened but they sat us anyways. I was a little disappointed with the menu - it was all eggs! And I don't like eggs. Went here for a quick weekday lunch. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere with the open windows, and their st patty's day bar specials are awesome! I have been here in the mid-morning for brunch and in the evening for dinner. The first time I came the menu hadn't been changed. I had the oven fried fish and it was AWESOME! The service was great and we left stuffed and happy. The second time we went for my husband's birthday and the menu was different. The food was still great but it was just confusing trying to pick something off the menu. The waitress even brought out a candle for my husbands dessert. Our daughter who was 4 got a huge kick out of it. We went not long ago for brunch and it was fabulous again, I got the fish and chip. My daughter got the All American breakfast (I think) it was wonderful scrambled eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit and I want to say pototoes. I can't remember what my husband had but he and been there without me before so it was one of his favs. The waitress brought over some toast and muffins until our food came, the muffins were cold but I didn't worry about it. The food was brought over pretty quickly. I am actually going back tomorrow for brunch! I like that I can take my young kids and they are accepted there, they put us out the way.. It is a place that I would love to have a party at, the decor and seating is so cool. It is a great place to have a shower or some sort of get together. read more

I never write reviews but I've been here a handful of times and think this place deserves a little more credit than its reputation in yelp. To counter those who recently posted about the wing night deal, it only went up by 10 cents extra to 50cents per wing making it $5 for 10 wings. That's still a good deal and if you are complaining about that then no restaurant wants a patron like that (clearly the restaurant wasn't making enough money to have to raise it, how about buying a beer or cocktail with your essentially free wings? Regularly priced $12?? Can't stand people!). Moving onto food, Orleans seems to need to change its menu because frankly I'm tired of what they have. However, their steak tips are to die for. Also that chili! The nachos are perfect for sharing (or having to yourself!!) and the truffle fries, when cooked crispy, are also quite delicious. My boyfriend loves the buffalo mac and cheese. Also worth noting: the lettuce wraps, although a bit confusing, are delicious too. Drinks: Orleans has a large rotating beer list. However Orleans is almost always out of something whenever I eat there. I guess it's ever changing. Also I love that the new bartenders are young and welcoming! So nice to walk into a restaurant with a warm welcoming smile! Which leads me to the service. To be quite frank and to only review on the servers I had, I think Orleans has something special when it comes to employing the best servers. No they aren't your 5 star robot waiter that is supposed to read your mind, but they are wonderful people. Each server I've had was delightful, attentive, and truly cared about my dining experience. At the end of the day, mistakes may happen, they are only humans. I truly wished that servers were treated better. Now I finish with why I give this place 4 stars. They are missing that last star because I feel Orleans struggles to realize what kind of restaurant they want to be. There's slightly overpriced food and then bar snacks. There's booths with rips and weird overhead hanging lamps. Almost all the tables I've been sat at are wobbly or don't line up correctly. It's a shame honestly. Because of the after-effects of the December 26th snow storm, Emily K and I decided to have a low-key New Years celebration of dinner, drinks, and girly movies. Because we waited until the day before New Years Eve to make our reservations, we didn't have many choices available in terms of location and time, but neither of us are picky so we went with what opened up - a 6:30 PM reservation at Orleans. I'd never been, so I wasn't sure what I was expecting. The New Years Eve prix fixe menu looked good, but the vibe of the place is more sports bar, which clashed with the attempts at upscale on the food and drink menus. We started off with cocktails, which at $9, I expected more than what was served in a champagne flute. However the drinks were strong, (a Pink Lady for me and a Stiletto for the lady) enabling us to sip them throughout the meal. A common theme throughout the meal was the inconsistency of serving size. I started off with the crab and asparagus bisque while she had this little shrimp cake; mine was a solid cup while her shrimp was about the size of a half dollar, with a doll-size side salad. However, quantity did not equal quality as my bisque had maybe two pieces of crab and a lot of asparagus. We both ordered the spareribs with gnocchi in carbonara sauce and were underwhelmed. The gnocchi was clearly the pre-frozen kind, overcooked to a chewy consistency. The spareribs were very well done, with the well-seasoned meat falling off the bone. For dessert I had the profiteroles and she had the crème brulee. The presentation for both was very well done, and they tasted good but nothing special. I feel like this place would be a fun, slightly more upscale than the average sports bar, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. read more

I've been to Orleans several times for events like Trivia, watching the Super Bowl, meeting up with a large group of people, etc. I'd never gone for a casual dinner situation until recently. My boyfriend and I had seen their sign outside advertising $1 oysters all day on Mondays (they have them 3-6 on all weekdays also). We made a reservation for the following Monday with the plan to just eat a buttload of oysters. The reservation, by the way, was not necessary. Had it not been for the "wine and painting" group taking over half the dining area, the place would have been nearly empty. We asked for the $1 oysters and were told they weren't a dollar after 6pm, they were $2.85. We were puzzled and disappointed. We ordered a half dozen and a couple of sandwiches. Services was incredibly slow, for such a quiet night. One of the water glasses we got was definitely dirty. Our oysters came out seconds before our sandwiches and were not terribly well cleaned. We both agreed they'd be a good $1 oyster, not at all good enough for a nearly $3 oyster. Our sandwiches were delicious. I had the crispy chicken sandwich, it was moist and flavorful and i loved the spicy mayo. I had the caesar salad as a side, and that too was very yummy. His fries tasted great, but were cold, sadly. When we got the check, our waitress apologized that she didn't realize they DO have $1 oysters all day Monday. She revised our bill, but it kinda sucked that we would have just eaten oysters had we known. I certainly wouldn't have gone to a nearly empty bar, with an annoying and loud group of wine/paint people to eat a chicken sandwich. We'd go back and make sure we got the $1 oysters on Mondays. Orleans is a good event place. It doesn't have the chops for a super nice dining experience, so I feel like it needs something more to keep customers entertained. On the upper side of Davis Square, this classy joint has a great atmosphere with comfy couches by the huge street-stalking windows. They just built a wooden patio in the Comcast parking lot, so visitors can dine outside during the summer. Also, during the summer, Monday mussels night is back for $10. You get to choose what broth your mussels cook in. I had curry last time and it was quite good with crusty bread. read more

I really like this place! They have great martinis and a great atmosphere to get drinks. It always seemed a bit chic and sophisticated but without trying too hard, which is a very welcome change from the Burren and Joshua Tree! I have had brunch here and the food was pretty good too. It does get a bit pricey but I think it is definitely doable since it isn't the place where you chug drinks and get fall over drunk. A couple times I was there they had a live DJ, who actually was quite good but the music can get a little loud. I have taken dates to this place and it has always been a good time. read more

This restaurant is really pretty and open, right in Davis Square. My friends and I had brunch here. We were seated in a booth right away. I had a great mimosa, just the right amount of strong :) I chose the Challah French Toast with fresh fruit and a side of bacon. It was too much to finish, but it was absolutely delicious. One of those slightly schizo places that isn't sure if it's a sports bar, a good place for drinks, a restaurant or a hip bar. It really has no clue, but their cuban sandwich isn't bad. It is a good place for drinks though, and they have a big screen tv that is good for watching a game. But they go through pains to try to make it hip and it confuses me. We went for an early dinner on New Year's Eve and there were plenty of seats!! We had the tater tot fondue, hummus plate, and the corn dogs - all of which were delicious! For dinner we ordered the salmon, the gumbo, the steak tips, and the chilli. The chilli and the gumbo were thoroughly enjoyed. The steak tips were tasty, but I wasn't a fan of the potatoes or the green beans they were both very bland. My friend said that she enjoyed her salmon but that her butternut squash risotto didn't have enough flavor. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Great location and the atmosphere was nice. For some reason I feel like Orleans is underrated. There's a lot of really good places with more of a draw - Five Horses with the beer selection, Rosebud with the Southern food, Painted Burro with the tequila. However, I've never had a bad experience at Orleans. It's pretty consistent and almost always has outside seating available. The menu isn't spectacular but also tasty. I think this place is ... pleasant. It's okay. I live near Davis Square, and I haven't really found any other bar/restaurants that are better. I enjoy the bar, and I really like the bread and hummus they serve. I went last night for dinner, and the waiter was very attentive, and the swordfish was delicious! The drinks are usually made to perfection, which I thoroughly appreciate. I would recommend this place to people who live in the area and would like to either, A) drink at a chill bar where you will not have to fight for a seat and yell at the person sitting right next to you, or B) have a nice meal in an intimate setting. read more

It's a great local place to hang out - the bartenders are friendly. The food is definitely basic - don't expect much. There's a nice outdoor patio for sunny brunches and the bloody mary's are good. If you go on Saturday night - there's karaoke. But don't go if you actually like to do karaoke, cause you'll just end up listening to the DJ sing. He likes to sing. If, by chance, you are chosen to sign - check and double check - they only have 4 songs to choose from, so don't get your hopes up! read more

Have not gone here for food but we did stop in the other day for a quick drink. I had the Mexican Kiss. It was one of the best drinks I've had around. The food seemed normal and the prices were moderate but they all seemed very generic. They let us sit outside even though we just wanted drinks and the place overall seemed to be well staffed and but not too busy. read more

This place is a crapshoot. I used to go here a lot. A LOT. I know that menu - I've tried it all - and I actually quite like the food. They have some nice dishes here - they do a sliced-tomato-mozzerella app thing that's cute and different. The mixed green salad is nice - well - if you avoid the brown and limp pieces.... uh... well, maybe the food isn't always so great. I do like the ambiance - I think the design and color of this place is PERFECT. Well, except this one time.....: The last time I went here, and I want to emphasize LAST, when we were seated we found we were shooing away an awful lot of fruit flies. When we told the waitress that there were a lot of flies around and asked if we could move to another table she sharply said "Where do you wanna move!?" as if it were an inconvience. How about "ANYWHERE WHERE THERE AREN'T FRUIT FLIES!?" That should be in all caps. I know Yelp likes to police that for some reason. Anyhow - we did move to another, slightly less fly-infested table and managed to choke down our food before we bolted. We are NEVER going back simply because of that experience. There are far too many other places out there that don't have fruit flies buzzing around, landing on the edge of your beer glass. Ugh. Makes your stomach turn.... Still giving it 3 stars - because I know you'll like it - really the place isn't so bad - but having to deal with swarms of flies and a bitchy waitress = never going back, EVER. read more

Orleans has all the components to be at least slightly above average, but all those components just don't seem to come together seamlessly... or at all. At first glance, it looks pretty nice and swanky, but you quickly realize it has more of a "Not Your Average Joe's" chain feel. It took a good while for someone to come over and even give us menus. It also took a good while for someone to come back so my boyfriend could re order his drink that had been forgotten. After that, the service was pretty good. The strange thing was, we had 4 different servers. Maybe that's why they couldn't keep things straight. The food came, it was totally average and I found the price to be a little high after all was said and done. Its the kind of place people frequent to feel like they're going out somewhere nice, without actually doing so. This is the sort of place I always seem to end up at...Whenever we can't make a decision on where to go this seems to be the default restaurant....The drinks are ok, burgers and pizza are pretty good, prices are reasonable..The service is fine...and that is the best I can say about it. I don't crave this place and it doesn't stand out for me in any particular way. It just seems to happen due to location and has a basic menu that appeals to lots of people. read more

The restaurant is pretty nice inside, and our server was pleasant. Definitely on the pricey side, but I got a super delicious eggs oscar (eggs benedict with LOBSTER). It was amazing. I wish I could add an extra half star for the food! Loses stars for two seriously rampant 4 or 5 year olds running around screaming the entire time we were there. You would think their parents would tell them to sit down, but at one point someone was following them around letting them scream. None of the wait staff said anything. this rating is for lunch. i had the portabella sandwich and a coffee porter my friend had the orleans burger with a side of fries. the salad was a side.. need i say more? the sandwhich itself wasn't bad. but i really expect more for 8 dollars.. maybe some inspiration? better sauce? olive oil and basil? rather basic, rather elementary, clearly not chef inspired. my friend loved her burger and the fries were not half bad. food: 2/5 stars (based on my taste buds) service: our waitress was very nice, the keg was tapped before my beer was full so she gave me the option of keeping the beer for free or to order another beer. it was 80% full and i really wanted to try it, so i kept it (great decision as it was tasty). otherwise i can't say anything bad about the service, other than that i couldn't hear her (she seemed to have lost her voice) but that's not really her fault. she was not hovering and was quick to get things down. service: 4/5 stars decor: we went during lunch so we really got to see the place, it has nice lounge like areas with couches and love seats, which would be nice for a group gathering at night. the large bay windows will be nice for the spring, summer and warm fall days. all in all it was a typical american restaurant. nothing wowed me, but nothing made me say this place is lame. decor: 3.5/5 seating: i love booth tables, but this one was made for people 6' tall or taller... that and fat people.. if i sat all the way back i had enough room for my girlfriend to straddle me and some more.. i like my food, i want to be close to it and sit back if i wanted to. seating: 1/5 all in all orleans seems to be an ok place for a group gathering to have drinks or a quick bite before you go out. but for the money (looking at entree prices) you're better of skipping it and spending a little bit more at another restaurant. note: i'll have to try the dinner and see if it changes anything, but it's hard for me to want to try the dinner aft read more

This place is hit or miss. Their big competition is Johnnie D's - especially for brunch - and they usually get the overlfow from there since Johnnie D's is always packed. I've been here for brunch a few times - not bad, and for late night snacks with friends. We did have a bad experience with mussels here before, so be weary of those. The manager reached out to us and urged us to come back. We gave it a shot and it was great. We actually ate this time and the food was excellent and the staff was friendly. I think everyone knew we were the folks that did not have a good (or any experience) the first time, but they more than made up for it with a warm and inviting atmosphere that felt genuine. My boyfriend and I have dined here a number of times and always left satisfied. It never seems to be crowded enough to have to wait, which is a plus. They serve delicious bread with hummus before your meal, and the entrees are always delicious. I have gotten the butternut squash ravioli with sage butter sauce (absolutely phenomenal!) and the eggplant parmesan which was also very good. There's a pasta dish with lobster that my boyfriend loves. There aren't really any vegan options here, but the vegetarian choices are plentiful. read more

This was some of the worst food I've ever eaten. I've had better at 99. Actually, I've had better at McDonald's. We ordered calamari, steak and cheese egg rolls, and chicken tenders. Everything was TERRIBLE. The wrap on the egg rolls was raw, the calamari was gummy and the breading had way too much corn meal and was falling off. Even the chicken, which is hard to mess up, was horrible. The only good thing about our experience was our server, she was very nice and attentive.
