I've heard lots of differing stories about whether it's safe to use drain cleaning materials on old pipes, I wasn't entirely sure what type of pipe we had, etc. Enter Dennis of Roto-Rooter. Dennis was extremely professional. He outlined each of the steps he would be performing and why he would be doing them. He explained to me exactly what was happening and did so professionally with a friendly attitude. After he had cleared out the bathroom drain cleaner than I'd ever seen it drain before, he threw in a cleaning of the bathroom sink and the kitchen sink! Not only did he then describe how to maintain the drains, he left us a bottle of the liquid drain protector, how and when to use it, and gave us some other tips as well. Dennis did an excellent and quick job. I have a hectic schedule, and Roto-Rooter was efficient and helpful in working around my schedule. We were getting our house ready for sale when an inspector told us we had a small gas leak in the…read morebasement. This was at about 5 pm on a Friday. I called Freeflow because I saw their van in the driveway of a really picky neighbor who vets her contractors well. I figure if that woman was using Freeflow it was probably a good company. I called Freeflow and spoke to John. I told him the problem and that I hope he could come out right away. He said he could be there that evening. I was so relieved. Then John called again and said he could come out within a half hour if that worked for me. Great! He was there in an half hour, figured out the problem, and called for a guy to come bring him the right part. No waiting for Freeflow to get a part, no big fee for being an emergency call, just straight-up good customer service. A grave concern became a non-issue in about 90 minutes. Since it was an emergency we didn't get quotes. We just called Freeflow and were very happy with the service. So of course, we called John at Freeflow again once we moved into our new house. It was a foreclosure that Fannie Mae bought and "fixed" up. It had been vacant for over a year. John went through and fixed the mess Bathfitters made in installing the shower/bath combo, cleared the clogs in two upstairs drains, installed a new garbage disposal, and connected our water line to the new fridge. These were all separate visits since the troubles came over the course of 2 months as we lived in the house. John was very accomodating of our schedules. His quotes were always on or close to the actual cost. If there was a deviation it was explained, and since we paid in cash we got a discount. Now we plan to install a jetted tub in the master bath, and a half bath in the basement. So we will be calling John at Freeflow Plumbing confident we'll be getting good work for a fair price.

I hired John based on his A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, my experience…read moredid not reflect that rating. The original quote for the project was $3,875.39, and I paid a deposit of $1,356.38. Although I felt some of the individual charges were extremely high, including one item that appeared to be nearly four times the actual cost, I accepted the overall quote because I believed the total price was reasonable for the scope of work. The project involved plumbing work that had already been reviewed and approved through the condo HOA's infrastructure process. Part of the work required cutting a small opening in the ceiling of the condo unit below mine to access the pipes. I was prepared for this and had already arranged for my contractor to repair the ceiling once the plumbing work was completed. Instead of making a small access opening, John cut out a very large section of the ceiling, causing unnecessary damage, as shown in the attached photo. This resulted in additional repair costs that I now have to cover. After this, John informed me that if he were to continue the job, the cost would increase to $10,000. I declined because that was far beyond the original quote and because he appeared unable or unwilling to complete the project as originally agreed. Since the only work performed was an initial visit, cutting the ceiling, and obtaining the permit, I requested that $1,000 of my deposit be returned. John refused, stating that he believed he was entitled to keep the full deposit. I do not believe this was fair or reasonable, especially given the limited work performed and the additional damage caused. I wish I had checked YELP first due to the number of dissatisfied customers.
