Where to begin. The rear of our house faces an alley, and had a three foot section of fence, open driveway, then 25ft of fence to the property line. We wanted to close it off with a driveway gate for privacy and to contain our dog, and decided to replace the fence too so the design would match, adding a pedestrian gate to access the alley. The pedestrian gate would be where the three ft section was. The entire fence would be moved 1 ft back towards the alley to give more space and avoid disrupting existing landscaping and lawn irrigation. Initial design and pricing seemed to go fine. On day 1 of construction, I came home to find a steel post already set in concrete practically in the middle of the driveway. Instead of removing the three ft section they left it and measured in from there for the pedestrian gate. When I pointed out how dumb that was, as it made it a challenge to even got a car in the driveway now, they *charged me* for redesign and labor to fix it. Once they get the driveway gate up I see that the gap under it is 8 inches, not the 3-4 inches promised. My dog could easily scoot underneath it, eliminating a key reason to close of the backyard in the first place. They addressed this reasonably well by adding a thin steel bar to partially cover the gap. For the pedestrian gate, they put the hinge and handle on a nonintuitive side. Imagine walking up a driveway with a fence on your left and a gate in the corner on the fence in front of you. The intuitive thing is for the hinges to be on the left and handle on the right of the door, so that as you approach it walking up the driveway the handle is accessible. Hard to explain but obvious as you use it- see pics. They didn't move the fence back 1 ft as they were supposed to, and as a result dug up some landscaping irrigation piping while installing the driveway slide rail. They didn't bother reburying it, so I now have a loop of piping sticking up out of the ground. Finally, to secure the redwood panels on the steel fence posts and cross beams they used screws that rust, so after the first rain there are dropping rust stains from each screw. In short, their metal work is fine, but their design, attention to detail, accountability, and customer service are terrible. I do not recommend them for any residential gate or fence work. read more

We've had our Fence World Gate for one year now. We picked Privacy Gate - #53 which is shown on their website. Good initial customer service during the translation. Work was scheduled quickly. Day of installation and after the gate was finished we noticed our gate didn't look like the picture. Different arch and different wood, the workers explained that the stain we chose wouldn't work well with the wood in the picture. The wood we were given looks cheaper. I believed them and let it slide. Don't get me wrong the gate still looked good, but it wasn't what we thought it would look like. Skip to one year later. Every single fence board is cracked, either down the middle or cracking at the screw. Also gate doesn't line up anymore and needs more work. After inspection from Levi, they'd need to return and make changes to the posts. They declined any warranty on the fence boards and wouldn't make it right. This was one year exactly from installation. Basically we're disappointed we chose Fence World for our gate. Really wish I didn't have to spend more money on boards a year after. Hiring another company to do the work. read more

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, I received a phone call from Jenn, a representative from Fence World. Jenn told me they were coming to install my metal gate on Friday, June 12, 2020. I only got a one day heads up. It would have been great if they called me sooner to schedule an installation date. Instead they were coming the next day. It was a good thing my daughter was going to be home that day. I ordered a metal gate that was to be rusted and sealed prior to being installed. This was an extra $680 request. I was not home during the installation; however, my daughter was. My daughter knew nothing of the specifics of the metal gate.I came home that Friday evening to look at installed fence. Fence world did a nice job in making the metal fence and installing; however, Fence World did a terrible rust job and it was not sealed. Someone can come into contact with the metal gate and have rust on their person. That was the reason for the rust to be sealed. I only gave them 2 stars, because they did not complete the job, per our agreed contract. I live in an HOA an I was given the green light for the rusted metal gate, not a spotty rusted metal gate. I am writing this review on Sunday, June 14, 2020 and I have not spoken to anyone at Fence World, yet. I plan on calling them on Monday. read more

A PG&E service man backed into my iron gate when he completed his gas related job at the house. It took me a month to find someone who'd even give me a repair quote so I could get the gate fixed. Fence World Iron World did the quote via email. I just sent them pics of the damage, the next day them gave me the quote, and the next business day they came out and did the work. The did a great job. The whole transaction was very easy, very professional, and the rate they charged was more than fair. Very, very pleased! read more

We purchased a new iron gate to be installed by Fence World Iron World for our South Land Park home in May 2021 and we very pleased with the work done. Just this past month, we realized the gate wasn't closing as well so we called Fenceworld and the next day someone was at our house to look at the issue. It appears that the stucco wall where the post is anchored to was settling, which was not Fence World's problem. The workers from Fence World nonethless took care of the issue and adjusted the post so that the gate now properly closes again. Even better, despite that the issue wasn't related to their workmanship, they did not charge for this service. I am extremely happy at the high level of customer service, professionalism, and immediate followup by Fence World Iron World and would definitely patronize them again. read more

Quite possibly the worst customer service experience and product installation experience ever. We hired the company to install a custom fence and automatic gate on the property. From the moment of installation there were problems and every time we called, the owner seemed bothered. It finally got to a point where the gate was not working and we could not secure the gate. We called several times without a response. They never have called back to fix the problem. We finally called another reputable company in town that came out and installed the latch properly as it turns out the latch and eye for the gate were never installed properly. We paid for their faulty installation. To make matters worst, this was done on home for my 82 year old father and when my father called begging for help to resolve the situation, the owners did nothing. Very sad. Thankfully we have the resources to resolve the situation, but no one should have to deal with such unprofessional business owners who do not stand behind their product. read more

If you just need something traditional stick to something cheaper as you won't get to see there amazing handy work on a traditional fence. read more

I am posting 1 star but I would give them zero ! Called them, they ask me to send them pictures and measurement and they would give me a quote. Waited two weeks,and no answer. I went to their show room too ask for help, poor service. Said they would call me. 2 weeks later a call wanted to know if we wanted a appointment ! Omg. They said they were too busy. The other reviews on this business are correct. This is one of the worst businesses that I have ever tried to hire. I called and left a very precise message regarding a wrought iron fence that I needed to replace. No call back after a week. When I followed up, Matt asked me to email photos of my existing fence to him so that he could provide an estimate. I took the time to email multiple photos and precise measurements, and again no call back. After my final attempt to make contact here, I got an incredibly rude employee which took my msg, but, no surprises here - no one ever got in touch with me. If you don't want the business, then atleast have the common courtesy to communicate with the people who are trying to support their local community small business owners. After this experience, I can only say that I hope they get what they deserve: an out of business sign on their front door. read more

if you want 'custom' iron work, even artwork ~ these are the people to use. Most excellent and beyond expectation of what you even can do with iron. They hold Blacksmith conventions that draw Blacksmiths from around the world. Even Prauge, Germany, England, all over the US. It is Good to see that the ancient art of Blacksmiths is held true and pure. Also associated with FeGallery art shows that mix not only their own blacksmith 'art' but they have other 'guests' that make it a great 2nd Saturday show. Definitely one of the Best in the whole industry, and from what I understand, I believe it is generational. read more

We paid $2700 for a sliding gate across a side yard walkway. The contract was signed on 3/12/15. The gate was finally installed 6/18/15. The paint was still wet, so once it dried it was rippled with installers fingerprints. It also didn't come with a latch. They said that is our fault, because we should have know what "padlook loops" meant in the contract. In addition, the post near the house and metal guide sticks out into the walkway, and kids eye level. IF they had sent a salesperson out to look at the job and measure, they could have seen they would need to move the pole three inches and avoid this safety hazard. We had previously used Fence World for a fence around our pool. They did a great job with that. Geremia Pools had recommended them. However, this job seems to have been doomed from the beginning. I sent them pictures of the problems, but no one has come out to look at the installed gate. They say it was built according to the signed contract. Very unprofessional. read more

I had these guys build a custom-sized living fence for my newly landscaped backyard. I did go into their storefront with pictures and measurements, and had to wait to get on their schedule, but it was worth it. Not only did they come with a beautiful version of exactly what I asked for, when they went to install it and discovered that my measurements were flawed, they went out to their truck and re-fabricated it to fit. Every step of the way this job presented itself with obstacles and Levi and his partner just pushed through all of it to make sure it was completed that day and what a beautiful job it is. (I will post pictures later as it is raining cats and dogs out there right now!) I've seen some less than favorable posts about Matt and Fence World but I believe it is about expectations. This small local business does very specialized and custom work, so they don't go fast. I think they're trying to keep up as best as they can, and do not overcommit themselves for less than perfect craftsmanship. I felt lucky to get my residential job on their calendar of projects. If you could see some of the work they've done in storefronts and restaurants you'd see how it is a privilege to have a piece of their work on your property. As good as they are at what they do, I doubt they need the work but I look forward to using them for my next project. read more

Matt did a perfect job provided rendering, then meeting with us to make certain the scale was correct. He has a fine eye for design. Jesus and Levi did the instal. Black wrought iron on new light oak floors, next to white walls and not a smudge in sight. Wanted the shoes to be black matt. Left the room for a minute and they had made them matt with another pot of paint. Amazing. Simply cannot say how perfect it was! read more

I had them replace a small section of my fence I took off and brought into there shop, There receptionist Sarah was very polite and helpful, the estimator provided a bid from Pictures and measurements I emailed I took the old section of fence to there shop it was mall about 12" x 4' . There estimate was for $210.00 which was well worth it they did a very nice Job and it lined up perfectly with the existing fence. I am very happy with the service the provided. Fence World installed my metal pool gate many years ago, long enough ago that it's been repainted twice and needs to be repainted again. Recently it was seriously damaged somehow while I was not home - the upper hinge was completely ripped from the post. I wasn't sure it was even reparable. I called Fence World and talked to Levi who went out and took a look while I was at work. He told me it could be repaired and we talked about setting an appointment. He then called me yesterday to say they had people working in the area and could probably do the job during the day. Scott and his assistant arrived in the afternoon and fixed it beautifully - it's better than before the damage. So many Yelp reviews are from people who have just had work done. I want to report that this company continues to stand behind their work many years after the fact. read more

The previous reviews don't seem to be reviewing the same Fence World. I had a specially designed fence made in 2014 - their work exceeded our expectations. The experience was so good that we contracted them to create another fence for us. Not only were they helpful and professional, but their bid was about $3,000 less than the other bids. Never had issues with them returning calls or meeting appointments. In fact, the whole process has taken about a week from estimate to work completion. read more

I would not recommend this iron shop. The assistant is very pleasant but the owner is arrogant and rude. Also they did not stand by the quality of their product. 2 years after installation, the iron fence is peeling, rusting and fading. The owner apologized and said my one year warranty period had passed and I'll need to pay $900 for repaint. We are moving to a different vendor now to fix it. read more

Customer service is terrible! The owner/manager is rude. I had put down a deposit. Their scheduling is all over the place. Dont expect to get a date for installation as they cant seem to book apts its all on system for when they can fit you in. That was weird but worked out fine for us as we didnt have to wait to long. I got a call day before installation saying we can fit you in tomorrow okay. They did send a sketch of what I wanted with their bid I though this is great and nice professional. Wrong. Expereinced an issue with the company and they wouldnt take responsibilitity or even an apology, saying my issue was pre exisiting and so forth. They expected me to physically bring in the remanding balance after they were rude what a joke this company is. Someone eventually picked up the check later that day after i had to call them again to see what was going on. 45 years in business and they still dont take cards, its time for a change i had no problems paying them the owed amount but they constantly harrass you about it. I would not reccommend to anyone. Go with a different company. Beware. Gate looks nice there are some imperfections its not smooth in several areas and we had to spray paint a few missed areas as well. I will take my business else where in the future. Fence world installed a well crafted, beautiful gate to our home however the installation overall and customer support are deplorable to say the least. The solar wire to the fence was left above ground and the re-bury of the pad area was not well done. In addition when the fence stopped working it took over two days for a response. When I called, I received a terse response and was told that they had not made the time to call back, I lived far away and that I had an attitude. I was warned this business was difficult to deal with prior to contacting them, but they were close by so I tried. When I had discussions with Steven, the manager, he seemed to be upset that I did not come with my mind made up about what exactly I wanted. I had to go shopping myself for the paint color, choices, like hollow verses solid stakes, lock, finials, etc. were not offered. Design options were not provided without asking about them. When a design was decided, a date was agreed upon for start of the project. The afternoon prior to agreed start date they called and changed the date. I was not available for their new date so the project was postponed for another week. When I reminded them I was paying extra to rush the job, the manager cancelled the contract and rudely hung up on me stating he did not need to be reminded about what he had agreed too. I had to go to the contractor's board to get a written statement from them of this cancellation though I had mailed a written request for it. I went to Ornamental Iron Outlet and had absolutely no issues with doing a design and scheduling installation. It was like night and day the difference in the two businesses. I also got a MUCH better price for the same exact project than the one quoted by Fence World and also got extras included that Fence World wanted additional fees for. read more

fence world, nice showroom. this place makes amazing fences, works of art really. they operate with the casual welcoming of a family business and creativity and attention to detail i would expect of a more expensive shop but surprisingly for quality work their prices were very competitive. the railings they put in my house are really beautiful had forged to look like grape vines, my wife loves it. the men who installed the rod iron were very clean and took very good care of my hardwood floors. not sure about the previous reviews but i had a smooth experience with fence world and would recommend them to a friend anytime. read more

This company is horrible!!! I sent them an email on April 23, 2015 with pictures asking for an estimate. Did not hear back from them at all. So I decided to follow up. The lady over the phone told me that they had to fire the lady before and asked that I resend her the email so I did so on April 29, 2015. She forgot to tell me that there was going to be a fee for the estimate and emailed me to let me know. I respond and said it was fine just get it done soon, within a couple of days. It is now May 5th and I have not heard anything back so I decided to call them. They guy told me that they were really busy and haven't had time to drive by but will send someone tomorrow and will make sure someone calls me tomorrow, May 6. Guess what, no one called so I called them today, May 7th. And a lady picks up and said that they are really sorry. They are short handed and that they know their customer service is bad. She also told me to go somewhere else. I am not at all impressed with them. This is the worst customer service ever and I believe should be shut down. Whoever uses them, be aware.
