It's clear that they care about the environment from the upcycled tables, to the alternative heating, and through the use of biodegradable materials instead of plastic. Let's talk food! We ordered quesadillas ($6), tater tots ($5) and the Curry Chicken Naan Sandwich with fries ($12). Everything exceeded our expectations. The quesadillas were small and packed a good flavor. It wasn't plain and not overly filled with unnecessary ingredients. The taters were cooked to perfection. The Curry Chicken sandwich was filled full of flavor and hard to put down despite getting full. The beer is what drew us in. We already enjoy various Orono beers and their tasting room doesn't disappoint with the number of beers on tap. This is absolutely the best thing to happen to Orono and the greater Bangor area since ... ever. Games galore: check. Delicious bites: check. Incredible beer: check. I love that this bar blends old with the new: established beer drinkers and college kids, old-school video games and corn hole outside, an 80s vibe with awesome graffiti murals. This is a place where all are accepted and where all can find something to suit their tastes. Do you have a large group? Great, you'll fit at their oversized picnic tables or in the crows nest area where they have foosball with a view. I love coming here to play ping pong after work with friends, especially on Tuesdays for their ping pong tournament. It's a relaxed vibe where people share the table nicely. The food here is incredible. I love their buffalo tater tots, their blistered Brussel sprouts (the soy/ginger sauce is to die for), the roasted garlic cheese dip, and their quesadilla. All of these are great items to share with a group. I also love to order the Mac n cheese to share as well. If you can't find something you like on their beer menu, well, you must not have taste buds. There are so many options that I always love to try a taster before getting Vanlife or Tubular. The Way Life Should Be is another great IPA and when I'm feeling festive, I support Bananas with the Go Blue blueberry milkshake IPA. In addition to their IPAs, they have saisons, stouts, sours, brown ales, kolsch, and DIPAs. I'm serious, there is something for everyone (and if Margin Street doesn't have it, maybe another of their locations will). Stopped by this past weekend hoping to sit outside with our dog on a sunny day. A little disappointed that the outdoor area was mostly sectioned off and only a few tables were out on the paved area but I know it could literally snow tomorrow so I get it. Of course everyone was sitting outside and we had our dog so we couldn't go inside. Kind of a bummer since we live 4 hours away so we had no option to not have the dog. We waited for a table to open up but were frustrated that a child's birthday party was apparently being held and they had taken over 2 big tables outside but nobody was sitting on them and the parents were drinking diet coke and the kids were running around like lunatics. They saw us waiting and when we asked if they were using the tables they said yes both of them. I am not sure when it became normal to not only bring kids to a brewery but hold a birthday day party there like it's chuck e cheese or something?? I mean our party of 5 wanted to eat and put down some beers so I would think it's a better business model to cater to a 21+ crowd not children and non drinking parents but I guess that's just me. We finally got a table and had the usual fabulous beers and food but after a couple of rounds we had enough of the obnoxious children running, kicking open the doors and having a nerf gun fight so we left. I don't mean to be an old crabby lady but I never brought my children to drink with me until they turned 21 so I simply do not understand why so many people are doing this now. I understand a family stopping in to have a meal and some drinks but a children's birthday party is wild to me! I guess the staff can't really do anything about that but I see that as a potential problem for revenue. We will still stop by every time we are in Orono because, as I mentioned, food and beer is on point! Maybe they could allow dogs inside?? Hands down the best place in Orono. We are frequent flyers to visiting OBC. When the weather is nice, the beer hut and garden is so lovely. They have entertainment for all ages. Kids can play on the basketball court, bocce, corn hole, or board games. It's so incredibly family friendly. When the weather is winter-- you can go inside, order food or drink and kids can play board games or video games. The vibe is very laid back. You order at the counter and seat yourself. You'll get your drinks right away and a buzzer for your food. They have specials quite often. Their social media is always up to date and advertising what and when they are. The best part? Amazing brewery with excellent food and awesome beer. The vibe is super chill, with graffiti art and neon colors sprawling, you get an 80s vibe with a new age twist. I was VERY happy with my fake n cheese, which is a tempeh twist on a steak and cheese. The fries were also delicious, fresh cut fries. I got a side of the horseradish aioli, which was a great decision for a fry dip. I had two sour beers and my wife had an IPA. All of the beers were flavorful and we even got some cans for take home. The outside area provided places to sit or play, with a basketball hoop and disc golf net there was plenty to keep the kids entertained. Inside they had foozball (sp?) and table tennis. The large tables and the variety of seating areas really makes Orono Brewing a class act. There is something for everyone on their wine/beer/cider list and their food menu holds it's own against any restaurant. Okay, so I'll be the first to say traveling with dogs can be a bit rough to eat out but this place made it easy to not only enjoy some food but some drinks too(while being with my two pups!). I personally like going up, placing my order for drinks and food and picking up my food when the buzzer went off. Drinks were great, food was good, the outdoor and indoor space was nice. I will say my only gripe is I prefer sours...and this place seems to be big on IPAs. Nonetheless, I would come back and I would recommend this to friends who are visiting. read more

First I must let all my readers know that I'm not really a beer lover, so my review will reflect what my family and friends experienced. OBC finally landed its clear road-trip-worthy brewery destination with its new 61 Margin street campus. Y'all, this place is seriously cool. First, the beer. It features an expanded menu of both OBC stalwarts and guest taps. Don't get upset if you don't see your favorite on draft -- it's likely in can form in the fridge next to the taps. :-) Now, the food. Yassss. They basically boiled down some fantastic Woodman's-style concepts and developed an approachable menu for the brewery with tasty shareables (tots four ways, mini quesadillas, blistered brussel sprouts, garlic cheese dip), a variety of flatbreads, and interesting entrees (highly recommend the fish tacos and the miso glazed fried chicken sandwich). The space itself is straight out of Brooklyn...think industrial chic with a bad ass, oversized mural on the wall. There is plenty of room for large parties with multiple huge picnic tables and tall tops on the ground floor and a more intimate upstairs section. Once summer rolls around, the outdoor space with dueling cornhole games will also likely become very popular. My favorite feature of the bar is the championship ping pong table under the stairs which draws serious competition most nights, but specifically Tuesdays at 6 pm for the weekly tournament. An impressively unique menu compliments a wide range of beer and drinks, not just the OBC House beers, but also a rotating set of visitor taps along with wine, cider, and proscecco. The decor is fairly typical hipster industrial (as to be expected when a converted cement factory is the interior design palate). That said, the murals were beautiful and intricate and the place was comfortable, not easy given the high ceilings and concrete everywhere. Before I talk about the food, a bit more about the decor: It's all family style tables which feel a bit too wide to comfortably talk to the person across from you, resulting in many couples and friends sitting side-by-side, in part due to the noise level, which was loud, though not entirely unexpected due to the high ceilings. Now, the food: the menu is comprised mainly of some apps (quesedillias, tater tots with various toppings/flavorings), as well as a unique selection of flatbreads (i.e. small pizzas) and burgers. Our party ordered a couple of flatbreads, a burger + fries, and the plain tots to try. The tots were good if a bit greasy; the burger looked a little basic and surprisingly flat (and the person in our party who tried it was underwhelmed). That said, the flatbreads were fantastic - both came on soft, well-cooked and flavored dough, and the toppings were perfectly cooked and paired. The steak and cheese was creatively presented and tasty; the butternut squash / brussel sprouts / sausage (with veggie sausage swapped in for standard) was a delicate, bold mix of flavors that played quite well; in particular the squash was subtly used in a way that demonstrates the kitchen knows what it's doing. As a minor side note, the fries that came with the burgers were excellent, and a definite notch above even higher-end burger joint fries; ultimately there was something in the natural potato flavor that stood out compared to the greasy duck fat fries that are typical for restaurants of this type. It's also worth noting that there is an impressive amount of vegetarian options, both in terms of direct menu offerings, as well as creative swaps that are creatively designed and clearly not afterthoughts. On my next visit I plan to try some of those specifically. There's something interesting and perhaps risky in the overall approach of this joint: on one hand they have a ping pong table and the type of seating and decor that clearly appears to college and twentysomethings who won't be put off by the volume level; on the flip side they have a unique and inspired menu (and the prices to match) that seem to be aimed much more at established 30-50 year old professionals and even families. I'll be curious to see how these two audiences can mix and blend and how the restaurant will cater to both as they get off the ground. read more

OBC keeps expanding. This is the most recent addition to their taprooms. The venue is spacious and colorful. The food is tasty and worth the wait. They have small things to snack on as well as larger entrees if you want a full meal. There is a ping-pong table tucked away so you can play without being a hazard to other patrons. Only critique, there are mainly IPAs and hoppy beers. This isn't a knock on only OBC. It seems to have become a popular trend. IPAs sell, but it would be nice to have a locally brewed stout or ale. read more

The new location of the OBC is a significant improvement over their previous one. They have more seating, a loft area type seating, arcade games and a ping pong table (tucked away in a corner to keep stray balls from hitting anyone). A good portion of the seating is big tables with bench seats, which is a good way to fit more seating and adds to the modern bar type atmosphere. For folks who aren't fond of sitting right next to strangers there are also some tables available for seating. The food here is absolutely delicious with the OBC featuring everything from tater tots with multiple seasoning options to the classic chicken tenders with different sauces for appetizers. For entree type options they had options from soft tacos that looked amazing, a classic (delicious) burger option, and my favorite so far, a steak and cheese that has the perfect cheese to steak ratio, served open face with an incredibly tasty horseradish sauce on top of it. Also, the house pickles are some of the better pickles I've had at a bar, a hint of sweetness without being overpowering and a ton of flavor. They had an extensive beer list, with cider and wine options, but every time I've gone here I was driving, so I had to abstain. Other people I've gone with have said their beer options are excellent however. Overall I'd recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area! read more

When you think of must visit Maine breweries, you'd instantly jump to Portland as the hub. With so many quality options it's easy to assume that. Well Orono Brewing Company's newest pub location pushes to change that thought. I wish this spot would have been around while I was up there going to college. OBC has always brewed exceptional beer and with the added capacity the whole state can experience their juicy IPAs and other brews. Even if you don't visit this location, you likely will experience the benefit of the huge brewing capacity increase throughout the state by seeing OBC beers on shelves. I have enjoyed their smaller batch draft only beers I have tried at this location as they have branched out to new styles. Compared to their original location, there is so much space available and even a ping pong table with tournaments happening commonly. Along with the long tap list they offer food from appetizers to entrees to desserts. I recommend any of the tater tot appetizers and any burger or the chicken sandwich. A must visit for those who like craft beer, easily one of the best breweries in Maine with great food to pair with it. read more

If I could give them 6 stars I would. First off, let's get Tubular out of the way. It's the best IPA I've had and a staple of my beer consumption (thank god they ship it to Portland!). Also let's get the food in general out of the way. I'm surprised at how great it is, considering the crowd is largely college kids who might be willing to eat lesser-quality food. The reason for the 6th star is the service. My wife has severe allergies and there are precious few restaurants at which we can even eat, much less enjoy. The staff is very much on top of our requests and always provides a meal we can enjoy together. We've been known to drive up there just for that experience (and to wash it down with some of that wonderful nectar--Tubular. I mean, totally!). Cap it off with the atmosphere--comfortable, casual, and supremely friendly, and what's not to like? Nothing. There's nothing not to like. PS.
