Dr. Gunzy has taken incredible care of me and my toe. I had a recurring ingrown toenail that kept getting infected, and he removed the part of the nail causing the issue so I could finally heal. This morning, he repeated the procedure and used phenol acid to permanently treat the section of the nail bed. I've had this procedure done in the past, and the other doctors did such a poor job that I was genuinely terrified to go through it again. Dr. Gunzy changed that. He gave me multiple options on how to move forward and explained everything thoroughly, including what went wrong in my previous experiences. He also understood that I have a lower pain tolerance and allowed the numbing medication to work longer before starting. I'm so grateful I trusted him. I had an very disappointing experience during and after my recent visit to Ortho Arizona's Mesa office. The doctor was 30 minutes late for my appointment and rushed into the exam room with no paperwork or laptop. He did not introduce himself or ask my name - his first words to me were - "Why are you here?" After telling him I wanted to prevent a bunion from getting worse, he informed me that nothing could be done until surgery was required and suggested I buy a sleeve from Amazon. He started heading for the door without ever looking at my foot. I stayed seated and at that point he came back and did a quick exam of my feet. I asked for the results of the x-rays his staff took when I arrived. To my surprise, he was unaware that they had taken images! The entire encounter lasted less than 5 minutes. When I returned home, I logged on to the Ortho Arizona patient portal to review the visit notes. I was shocked to find a DIFFERENT PATIENT'S NAME LISTED ON MY CHART, along with other inaccuracies in my medical information! This egregious error raises serious concerns about the accuracy and privacy of patient records at this facility. Given the minimal consultation time, the apparent lack of preparation for my visit by the physician (Gunzy), x-rays that obviously were not medically necessary, and the critical error in my patient records, it is difficult to believe that this facility would then charge me $416. I provided this information to the info@orthoarizona email listed in the reviews but received no reply. I eventually spoke to a very kind person at the Mesa office who forwarded my feedback to her supervisor. I waited to post this review but it is now over 3 weeks later and I've had no response or follow-up. I have never been more dissatisfied (and astonished) with the level of care and lack of professionalism from a medical office. I can only be thankful that I didn't visit this facility for surgery or other procedure. read more

The process of check in and check out is seamless. Tiana is the podiatrist assistant who greets patients, supports Dr. Griffin during a procedure, treats patients who have already been assessed, by cutting toenails and applying dressings. Patient's needs first does not apply here. You're just a number on a busy schedule. May be ok for nail trims, ingrown toenails, corns and bunions, but not surgery. Scheduled 3 weeks out to do internal fixation of a triple ankle fracture and ankle dislocation just wasn't acceptable and caused further complications. Go to a specialist for ankle fractures, not a podiatrist. BTW, I was given this Dr's # upon discharge from ER after my bike accident. read more

dr freed and Heather Jordan are both excellent! that being said I have to comment on the administration and billing dept are at times difficult to deal with mainly due to silly rule and regulations like mandatory online checkin which just seems to be a scheme to import drug advertisements into our sight for no good reason. I have been having a problem with my foot/ankle for several years and finally decided to do something about it. I was referred to Dr. Gunzy by my PCP. I called and set up an appointment. The front desk girls were great, friendly and attentive. After a while of waiting I was called back and roomed by the Medical Assistant, not long after that a tech came to get me for x-rays. A couple minutes after getting back to my room Dr. Gunzy came and did an exam. We reviewed the x-rays and discussed the issue and the next steps. I was told I would need an MRI and that after they did a prior-auth with my insurance, I would get a call from the office to set up the MRI. it was been 2 weeks since my appointment and NO communication from the office AT ALL!. I tried calling on a Friday afternoon, but they close at noon...sigh, so now I have to wait until Monday to call to inquire. I gave a 3 because the staff is friendly and I really liked Dr. Gunzy, but the communication is seriously lacking! read more

I have reached a point where both knees need replacement. The check-in with the receptionist was almost dismissive. My ID and Insurance card were scanned in and handed an Ipad. I had to rescan my insurance card and ID into the Pad. I had Dr. Earl Feng. His profile on my insurance provider's site gave him high marks for surgical care. I found him professional and forthcoming with answers I posed. A date was scheduled and felt all was in hand until I started reviewing the surgical packet. What was the problem is the surgical assistant used. Dr. Feng, as well as several other doctors in the Ortho AZ practice, do not have their own PAs or other surgical assistants on staff. This doctors, as aforementioned, others in this practice, use a company called Valleywide Surgical Services, LLC. As I am on a Medicare, there are certain requirements that should be looked into. I check to make sure all services are in network to be able to determine the necessary co-pays needed. Your should always check with your insurance company has a contract with the doctor, hospital, surgical assistant, and any durable medical supply provider. My company covered the doctor and hospital (Banner) but not this Valleywide or the Laguna Medical later referred to for a machine that is not found to be effective. As far as I can tell, Valleywide's hospitals that it mentions in its handout are all small private units that are owned by the surgical practice or other business. My insurance did not have a listing as a contractor. I could find it even has a contract with Medicare. The scheduling representative said she normally doesn't send out the payment notice until the Friday before the date if surgery. Glad I call on the Monday before. There is a clause in the Ortho Az information that says the surgery will be cancelled if the surgical assistant company is not prepaid. The representative would not accept assignment of payment from insurance company, an odd stance as this is the first company I have ever encountered that would refuse direct payment. There was no mention of any insurance company they are contracted with when pressed. The fee is about $350 to $600 and up, depending on your insurance. My carrier said it could be covered if a request was made for an out-of-network waiver. Upon reading the information, there are multiple LLCs, Limited Liability Corporations, that is a danger sign that any problems will be passed on to one of the other companies. This is especially true with billing. The authorization to bill is a financial trap that is never-ending and some have over a year of trying to get it resolved. Even the local BBB has given Valleywide Surgical Services, LLC a "0" (ZERO) rating. When checking into one of the private hospitals for coverage, Arizona Bone and Joint, I was told they do not take any HMO plans. If you want medical care to stay in-network, check with your insurance carrier to make sure all providers are contracted before going through with care, especially a surgery. Why do insurance companies allow this, it is an incentive to keep doctors contracted. The fee was about $350 but I was uncomfortable with not knowing the credentials of the assistant the doctor was using. There are 181 openings at Valleywide. When credentialing is looked up for the state, it can be as little as a person with a HS Education and several months of training. A PA has a Masters Degree and rotations and additional specialty training. NPs would be good also as this is one step below a doctor and allowed office practice without supervision but not surgery. Other persons would be Registered Nurses that have additional training as Surgical Nurses. Teo days before surgery, on a Saturday, I received a call from a Laguna Medical about a CPM (Continuoust Passive Motion) Machine, post-op. I was told Dr. Feng's office has ordered and that it was not covered by my insurance. It was $125/wk or $250 for 3 weeks. This machine is not an authorized DME (Durable Medical Equipment). It is also a machine that is found to have little benefit. In closing, please beware of where you are going, what you are signing, how much you are paying, and what your insurance company is authorizing. My sister used the Ortho Az in Chandler and everything was covered in Network and she is doing fine. I feel the assigned Dr. competent but left me uneasy about the outside vendors and lack of cooperation with the office staff in requesting the insurance companies prerequisites to allow assignment of payment to the provider. Too many irregular happenings to have me recommend Ortho AZ or Dr. Feng. X-ray tech was very pleasant, professional and timely!! read more

This place is the worst. The leadership is rude and they are always talking about other patients. The lead Jackie has a snarky personality, when I asked her a billing question she was rude about it. Not recommended. While sitting with Dr. Griffin, I heard a loud, intense voice from the hall or next room. Someone was pontificating long and loud about the need for the National Guard to distribute the Covid vaccine. This was a self-important, relentless, never-ending lecture, a tirade. Who he was speaking to, I never learned. I complained to Dr. Griffin, who finished up my exam, and must have engaged in some hallway gossip, because that loud, obnoxious doctor came into my room while I was putting my socks and shoes back on. He was Scott Wyant, who continued to lecture me at full volume about his personal beliefs. Twice I told him to stop, and to leave me alone, but he continued as if goading me. Several days later I received a registered letter from CEO Doug Vang, telling me I was discharged for my "hostile and aggressive manner." On the positive side, Site Manager Vanessa Dowell is first-class, professional, and kind. read more

Would not recommend this practice. I was assigned to Maxwell Thomas at this practice but never met him. He sent messages through the PA that were dismissive and uncaring. I failed the cortisone injection. Was told that they would have to prior auth gel shot injections through my insurance. Despite walking into their office my first visit, requiring crutches the next and wheelchair for my last visit, they could not "prove the medical necessity" for this and my insurance denied me. It took a week for them to send the authorization and another week as it sat in prior auth so I wasted 2 weeks with this process. I wish I could give them a zero rating. Also they are not good at responding to messages that I have left. My primary care physician will no longer refer to them because he sent 3 requests for medical records and to my knowledge they were never sent. read more
