Recommended by a friend. It was a great experience. The staff was really good. Dr. Byrne was very competent and explained everything she was doing/suggesting very clearly. The only issue I have which is not good is that I have yet been able to call them and get through to anyone. It has always been leave a message and we will probably get back to you by the end of the day. This is not a good look for an office. While the people are good once you get in the office, there seems to be no way to contact them if for example, I have to change an appointment for the same day. Great office. read more

My experience at Desert sky urology was incredibly disappointing. Despite Dr Byrne being rated a "top Phoenix doctor " the consultation felt like a "conveyor belt" experience where my concerns were completely dismissed. I mentioned that I believe I have BXO and she did not say anything about it ! Instead of a comprehensive examination, she spent less than 30 seconds looking at the area before immediately jumping to a recommendation for circumcision. She didn't ask about my symptoms, my history of steroid allergies, or my concerns . It felt like she was just looking for a surgical fee rather than trying to help me. A urologist's primary job is to evaluate the health of the urinary tract. This requires a thorough inspection of the skin as well as the urethra (the opening) to check for internal scarring or blockages. A 30-second glance is not a proper medical evaluation, especially for a progressive disease like BXO that can affect how you urinate. For a $300 consultation, I expected a specialist who would actually listen and perform a functional assessment of my urethra. Instead, I felt like a number, not a person. If you want a doctor who will actually examine you and discuss non-surgical alternatives, I strongly recommend going elsewhere! read more

Following a TURP procedure, urination became extremely painful, my penis extended and bent in one direction or another and time consuming (1.5 - 2 minutes). At a follow up appointment, I showed her a picture of my bent penis and her reply was "oh, that's not so bad"! She had absolutely no concern about my pain while urinating, didn't even address the matter. She spent maybe 5 minutes with me and told me to come back in 3 MONTHS. The wait time was minimal and I did notice that the patients who checked in, were treated the same manner. WOW! I must have had a different Dr. than the one described in other reviews. I just left from my third appt and still have not gotten answers to some basic questions from my first visit. Each time Dr. Byrne rushed everything disappeared before I could ask additional questions I felt were important. The each time I told the staff I had additional questions, they said they would ask her. When they came back I was informed Dr. Byrne would answer them at the next appointment. I visited Desert Sky Urology for the first time recently. It's somewhat unusual these days not to have more than one urologist at this type of medical practice. Virtually all of the urology practices in the metro phoenix area are staffed by a group of urologists, and typically consist of physicians that practice with impersonal attitudes and clinical types of modalities. Desert Sky Urology is different, with much more of a personal approach and only a single urologist on staff. Dr. Lauren Byrne, M.D. is a physician with Top Doc recognition, as well as being a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology. Reading all these negative reviews and in my mind I thought "surely she can't be that bad"... It's worse! I'm $1,200.00 in on four different appointments. She has spent maybe 5 minutes in total with me, just to tell me I have nothing and to see if I want to schedule a follow-up visit. I was even charged the full $75 copay for the receptionist to call me and leave a voice mail with my "negative" results. That has to be some type of fraud, right? The worst part was that I've been dealing with issues for six months. I finally got fed up and went to Mexico for help. Four days of vacation and $110.00 for a 30min consult and labs later they found a UTI. I was quickly given an antibiotic and am doing much better... Such a great doctor she couldn't even diagnose a UTI. Don't walk, run away from this clinic. This doctor is only interested in you if she gets to operate or gets to take all your money. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE! HORRIBLE STAFF AND UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! The doctor is nice but the phone staff are very rude and difficult to work with. There is no compassion whatsoever in situations that are beyond a patients control. If you cancel appointments with adequate notice (23 hours and 47 minutes in my case because that's when the office opened) you will be charged $100 and treated like garbage regardless of the reason you have canceled. I have never experienced such horrible treatment from a medical practice. Great doctor! Horrible office staff! They tried to charge me $100 for absolutely nothing! I made a phone call to the office before they were open and hung up after 15 seconds when I realized they were closed. They wouldn't let me see the doctor for my appointment without paying it and were very condescending! Then they told me they were going to charge me for cancelling my appointment when I told them they were the ones cancelling it, not me! I really like Dr. Byrne. Great doctor. Absolutely horrible office staff. Address on confirmation emails is wrong. Ended up far away office when it was put in GPS. Called and told them this and I was going to be late. I was hung up on. The woman on the phone was very rude. When I called back I got a voicemail and asked to be rescheduled. Dr. Byrne was the kindest doctor. I had to go due to my regular doctor who said there was blood in my urine and wanted to ensure it wasn't serious. Since I'm a low risk and don't smoke, she let me choose on next steps. Loved that. I wasn't able to complete the urine test there. So she let me take the urine cup home and drop it off later. Caution with this business. My 94 mother, who had an appointment for the next day, got very sick and would be unable to make the appointment the next day. They are charging her a $50 fee because I called 22 hours before the appointment time which is less that 24 hours. I asked to speak to the office manager and was REFUSED because they are busy and won't even return call. They said office policy is 24 hours. I was concerned and asked if she has COVID or another contagious disease, do want me to bring her in and she said if you cancel for any reason less than 24 hours we will charge - office policy. Update: After leaving a review, they went ahead and corrected the billing errors. This place is a joke and loves to send bogus bills. They are trying to charge me double my copay for my first visit, more than double my copay for an ultrasound, and then are not even acknowledging that I already paid the copay for my follow up visit (which I have a receipt for). I scheduled my initial visit for one day in advance and ended up running a fever a couple hours later and called them back to see if I could reschedule due to being sick, but they just told me that I had to either come in sick or pay a $50 cancelation fee. My follow up visit was a joke and everything the doctor told me in the two minute visit could have been told to me over the phone, but instead they billed my insurance for a "long visit" and charged me my $70 copay (which they are now claiming I still owe). I will be contesting their bogus billing and canceling future appointments with them. If you decide to go here, review the billing carefully! read more
