This restaurant is very close to Route 495, about .3 miles from the exit 115. Very convenient for people passing through MA during rush hour in need of meal that isn't fast food. When I'm driving on route 495 in MA I sometimes take an exit to get some food, and find myself driving so many miles out of the way...which is very frustrating! I saw the logo for this restaurant on one of those blue highway signs that say what is off that exit. I was skeptical, and worried I would end up driving forever to find it. Not only was it easy to find, there were even directional signs off the highway telling you which way to turn. Love that! I was alone so I sat at the bar. This is clearly a family run restaurant. Two adorable kids were helping their mom ferry the take out orders from the kitchen to the front entry host area where the take out orders are picked up. "Asian bistro" which is in the name of the restaurant implies they have a variety of Asian cuisine...and this menu did not disappoint! It had Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Korean items! Love that! They have a great selection to choose from. The bar tender took my order quickly, and the food came out fast. The Singapore noodles came out before the sushi which I did not mind at all. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. I took home half the Singapore noodles, which reheated really well! The spicy tuna roll was better than super market sushi, but not quite as good as a Japanese specialty restaurant...right in the middle, totally adequate for an Asian bistro style restaurant. Same for the Singapore noodles. I would have liked them more if they had more curry and more spice, despite that I really enjoyed the noodles. The texture was great, and the proportions of noodles to egg/meat/onions was good....they had a generous amount of meat (shrimp, chicken, pork), but too much....just right! The decor inside could use a little love. The bar area has lots of screens, some with sports and some with keno. The restaurant itself is very basic no frills and rather dark. The bathrooms are updated and very clean. The outside needs a little curb appeal. The lilies they planted in the planters had already bloomed and had gone by...I'm sure they were spectacular for the short 1-2 weeks they are in bloom. Flowers that blooms all summer in those planters would go a long way to giving the restaurant a more welcoming entrance area. Got sushi here when it first opened and it was average - not horrible but lackluster. Never went back until last night. Got gyoza and pad thai. Gyosa was ok. Pad Thai was awful - greasy and watery with nol flavor at all. It also had either onions or cabbage core chunks running through it, which is not typical with pad thai. Unfortunately when we got back to our home and actually dug into dinner, it was pretty lackluster. Most of the food was pretty bland and overcooked. The sushi was dried out and not fresh. I hate to have to say it, there are so few restaurants in Merrimac, but this is not the first time we've been unhappy with food and service, but it will definitely be the last time. The waitstaff (who seem to be owners) are rude and quite lax- it's frequently as if we are annoying them by our presence. Dumplings and gyoza were tasty- though the same dipping sauce was used for both. The Mongolian beef, ordered extra spicy, was so bland- and the pieces of beef were cut all different sizes- a couple of big and gristly pieces! I sent back the salad- it was just lettuce, with many brown leaves and a few shreds of carrot. The miso soup wasn't much better, with about 3 tiny tofu pieces and minimal seaweed. At least on this visit, the woman wasn't our server- she previously argued with us! This has been our go to for takeout quite often. This past Friday we decided to sit at the bar have a drink or two. Over the years we've really enjoyed the food however this experience was awful and specifically with the cocktails we ordered. To suggest they were watered down is an understatement. We each had a manhattan which was all vermouth with a hint of bourbon. Suspecting foul play we watched the bar tender make a vodka Martini. She poured what looked like a substantial amount of grey goose vodka into a mixing jig. When tasting it was only of very faint olive juice. In sum, it was laughable. We were shocked. My wife wanted to say something but I preferred to avoid conversation confrontation. We spent 35 dollars on cocktails that were, I'd estimate 50% water. I feel robbed and taken advantage of by a place I've spent 1,000's of dollars at over the years. I feel betrayed, this really was thievery. With a lot of good options I think this is good bye. I'm not sure if I missed something ordering, but my sushi came out rolled like an ice cream cone, which I was not a fan of, but that is probably my mistake in ordering it wrong. Also got a pupu platter and shrimp fried rice. Didn't really enjoy any of the food, it was mediocre at best and left me with an upset stomach. I picked up takeout from Osaka for my husband last Friday. The COVID setup is the best I've seen; they use a double window. The host was friendly, and two kids (maybe hers?) waved and smiled through the glass partition that blocked off the closed seating area. This restaurant was extremely disappointing. First, they did not answer the phone on a Thursday noon time to take our order. We arrived at restaurant, ordered through a ridiculous set up as if we were under siege. When we opened our$90 order items were missing, we called and was told "call 911" and they hung up. They told us this on a second call also. I was very insulted. The food quality was also poor, the rice tasted like the pieces of meat in it were left over, nothing seemed fresh. It's New Years eve. Oriental Garden won't pick up the phone, Family's in Salisbury doesn't have food for another three hours. I tried Osaka and everything was better than I ever locally. I had to make my own hot mustard sauce because they only had the pre-packaged vinegar version. I'll be back. My boyfriend and I got a lot of food for the dollar, but the quality was down the drain. We got: Pork fried rice, crab Rangoon's, chicken fingers, scallion pancakes, pork dumplings, and calamari. Out of all of these things, the scallion pancakes and dumplings were by far the best!! The chicken fingers were whatever. Everything else was awful. The calamari tasted like rubber, the crab rangoons tasted just plain awful (and undercooked), and the fried rice was just eh. We didn't try the sushi, but I guess I would give it a shot at some point. Overall, the person that helped us was very nice, but the food needs to improve for us to come back for it. Okay, so I absolutely love this place. First time I came here was Easter evening after a long day with family. We were seated and helped by a super pleasant waitress who took our order quickly but gave us enough time not to feel rushed. I got veggie udon noodles and their homemade pork dumplings (steamed is my preference). I really enjoyed the sauce that comes with the dumplings. So yummy! All of it was delicious though. This place really is a hidden gem. Located just outside the center of Merrimac (which also happens to be right off of route 495 if you're coming from outside the area), it doesn't look like much from the outside and is right next to an old run-down gas station. But I'll be damned if this isn't the best sushi place within at least 20 miles of this general area (I promise you won't find better sushi in Haverhill, Newburyport, or any of the surrounding towns). My girlfriend and I go here very often and, because we get sushi, we always sit at the sushi bar. When you do, you're typically greeted with a free (!) sushi appetizer that changes very frequently. They're always delicious, but one of the more interesting ones was a pringle loaded up with salmon, a little crunch, the perfect amount of sriracha, and a few other things - really delicious and creative! John, one of the sushi chefs, is absolutely fantastic. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in his work. There are no sloppy-looking rolls/nigiri here. Not only is the fish fresh and delicious, but you get large pieces of fish (if you order nigiri or sashimi) and the presentation is really outstanding. We've dabbled a bit in some of the other menu items - the crab rangoons, gyoza, and beef sticks are all delicious as well, but the sushi is what keeps us coming back. That said, we're excited to try the other stuff on their menu as well. So to sum it up - fresh, delicious sushi beautifully presented by people who care about their craft...all at a very reasonable price. Fantastic secret in this quaint town. Walk inside and it's like another world. The first thing you see when you walk In is a handwritten (and updated) sign saying what the recent most popular items are. How cool is that!!Nicely appointed inside with booths, chairs, and even a bar. All the usual Japanese food options but I had two appetizers that were just wonderful. We go to this restaurant a lot and never had an issue until this weekend We placed a large lunch order $ 250 worth which included sushi and various yummy dishes. We received two orders of chicken wings in our lunch order both of which were old and clearly reheated from day prior. It was bone dry and super old. Not good. We realize this is a tough time but serving old chicken is never safe. A bit disappointed to be honest since we spent so much money. I hope this doesn't happen again. read more

I love this place. We have lots of Chinese restaurants in Haverhill but their food isn't good and the drive is worth it. They are above and beyond. Only been a few times so far but the food is always fresh and delicious. I love that their rice is soft and chewy, not dry and laden with soy sauce like other places. Everything is wonderful. The teriyaki steak is great and one of the few things my 10 year old will eat. Our old place always burned it. Chicken fingers, pork fried rice, steamed dumplings, all delicious.
