Decided to try a new Chinese food place as my regular place didn't have the dish my brother wanted, I am so glad I did! I am very picky when it comes to meat but after sampling a variety of meat/seafood dishes I was very impressed. My favorite (out of General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Orange Shrimp) was the Orange Shrimp as the shrimp were battered and fried and the sauce was bursting with spicy citrusy flavor without being crazy. The dish did come with broccoli in the sauce (which absorbed a ton making it the spiciest part of the dish so beware). Also as a disclaimer, my stomach is very sensitive to fried, rich food and I had no sick feelings after this meal! Along with these mains I sampled the veggie low mien, chicken fried rice, and crab rangoon. The noodles and rangoon were delicious but the rice tasted a little underseasoned (still fresh and yummy though). Perhaps the highlight of my meal, however, was the homemade duck sauce - WOW! The only downside to it is that you have to order/pay for it separately (does NOT come with the appetizers) which I didn't realize until I went to pick up my food, wallet-less. Luckily, the establishment threw in two small containers (the 2oz ones) for free which I really appreciated. My only complaints about China Wok are that the delivery times aren't elaborated on their website (meaning you have to call and hope delivery's available) and that their wait times are inconsistent and usually it takes much longer than expected (mainly because they're very popular ergo busy). However, the food quality is amazing and service friendly enough that I don't mind waiting in the car. The only thing moving forward that would prohibit me from ordering from here is if I were unable to drive during a non-delivery time. read more

The food is decent if you can get it. I'm done with this place, the last time I ordered takeout. It was over two hours late even After multiple phone calls. This time I decide to give it another try placed the order paid for a tip for delivery after an hour and 20 minutes beyond the delivery time we called in and they have no idea where the order is, even though we have an order number and an email confirmation and it's charged to my credit card. Trying to work it out with the woman on the phone she hung up on us. So I canceled the charge through my credit company. Got takeout for New Year.s, and again, very disappointed. The crab rangoons were a yellow color, very hard and hard to chew, Mongolian beef was tough, and extremely hot. I called the woman on the phone to order lunch for my cousins and I. It was a small order for delivery and they said it would take about 30-40 minutes. I ended up calling to check back once it hit the 50 minute mark and they said the driver was on his way. The driver himself ended up calling me several times to confirm my address (the same address I've given them multiple times) I ended up walking up my driveway and he got me my food which was actually amazing and probably some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. It was not greasy at all and was incredibly fresh. The service was eery but the food makes up for it. I would recommend if you are interested in waiting a while to eat. I guess this is a (mini?) chain, since I found one in NH via Yelp. This location is far back in the right side of the Port Plaza shopping center. A small 6 table shop, seemingly more popular for take out than for dining in, as they received several phone calls while we were deciding our order. Crab Rangoon - you can actually see the little pink crab bits in the cream cheese filling. They folded up the edges so that they looked like cute four cornered stars. Crispy and tasty. General Gau's chicken - recommended by the fellow ordering take out ahead of us. Known as General Tso's here. A good sized portion of fried chicken pieces drenched in red sauce with a few spears boiled broccoli on either side. Mongolian Beef - slices of beef stir fried with strips of green pepper, onion, scallions. Tender and tasty. Eggplant - I presume it was Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, since it is the only thing under the Vegetable menu with eggplant. Deep fried eggplant fries - moist on the inside. Different and interesting. Four people, with 3 1/2 people's appetite finished off the appetizer but only finished perhaps half of the other dishes and 2 1/2 of the 3 plates of rice that came with the entree dishes. read more

The egg rolls were not received, the crispy chicken pad Thai was regular chicken because they were short handed, the lo mein (beef) which was good had virtually nothing but noodles, the chicken teriyaki was good, the large spare ribs were very tasty, the fried rice was super bland with very little flavor. This was our first visit, a bit of a let down because we sought them out after seeing good reviews on Yelp- Im thinking this may have just been a rough night and will consider a second chance down the road when life returns to some sort of normalcy. Well the reviews were right! Food is definitely good and quality is the most important thing here. Place doesn't smell greasy, food is cooked with professionalism and passion....at least that's what it tastes like. No over fried or left raw....this place separates itself from your tipical Chinese restaurant. I don't eat out too much because now a days you just don't know what you'll find or how your body will react To food due to higiene issues in restaurants. We were heading to Maine during our vacation on northbound I-95, SO starving for lunch at around quarter after 1 pm. We were going to the Japanese restaurant, but it does not open on Sundays. So we went to China Wok as the backup plan and yes, they're open on a Sunday afternoon. Located in the shopping center in the town of Newburyport (between the NH state line and Boston), this Chinese/Thai restaurant cooks up the best darn food I could ever taste. The Kung Pao chicken dish contains generous portions of chicken, veggies, spicy Kung Pao sauce and topped with peanuts. Let me tell you something...it's quite astonishing how well the dish was made from the wok to the table. It comes perfectly well with a side of white rice. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I stopped for lunch at China One in Newburyport, a typical looking strip plaza Chinese restaurant, an order at the counter place with open kitchen and table seating in the bright dining area. There is also another China One in Raymond, NH, which I need to update in the future. I ordered the L6 Shrimp Lo Mein ($5.75 plus tax-prices went up since '08) served with Pork Fried Rice and Hot & Sour Soup and the food was ready in under 10 minutes. The good amount of food was packed into a round microwavable plastic container and the pint of soup in a separate styrofoam bowl. The lo mein had a mix of vegetables (cabbage, sprouts, carrots, onions) and tender shrimp with firm noodles. The pork fried rice was a nice surprise, light yellow color with a soft texture with tender pork, onions, peas, and carrots, which I call "Capital District" style fried rice since almost every Chinese takeout restaurant in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy NY area prepares the fried rice the same way, light yellow/golden color with peas, carrots, & onions. Most other Chinese restaurants in New England serve fried rice dark brown color with dark rice and pork only. The hot & sour soup had a good spicy flavor. While not the best Chinese food I've eaten, it's at the top of my local list. I tend to rotate between different dishes. I enjoy the "dragon and phoenix," an entree of chicken, shrimp, and vegetables; and the boneless spareribs are very tasty. I've lately become a fan of their chicken chow mein, and their quart-sized soups do not skimp on content. Sizes are large and can accommodate more than one person. I've never eaten in the small restaurant, but their takeout is very popular as is there $20-minimum delivery to the region. read more

This new Chinese restaurant is the only one in Newburyport, since others have closed. It is in the same location at Port Plaza as a previous one (which was not good quality). What a difference from the old one! This is a new owner and a new restaurant and is not affiliated with any of the other China Woks. They have Chinese and Asian dishes. On my last visit, I had Panang Curry with chicken, a Thai dish, and it really was one of the best, freshest I have had. The boneless ribs were different - short thin strips - and were delicious! My girlfriend had Singapore Rice Noodles with Chicken, which has become a favorite. The dumplings are one of our favorites too - very well cooked and not greasy like you find at some other places. The owner is always friendly and very concerned about pleasing us. The inside is very nice, plenty of tables, artwork on the walls, and you can eat your takeout here or order in for dining. We have been back several times since they opened in the winter, and the quality is always excellent! It has become one of our favorite restaurants. We too are glad to have a Chinese restaurant back in the City! We just wish it was open on Mondays - hopefully they will, at least during the summer! WR read more

Was driving to Maine for a vacation on route 95, finding no place to have lunch. Stumbled upon this little restaurant with a humble facade but best Chinese food ever. The hot and sour soup was spectacular with generous portions. Small was the largest small ever. The main Szchuan shrimp we shared. Delicious with brown rice, wonderful! WOW! I'm known as a food snob by my friends. Well...not really, but having cooked professionally, I suppose my food opinions are a bit strong. We ordered from China Wok after hearing about the place from friends. Many Asian places around here are less than good...some I classify as downright gross. Not so for China Wok. First the place is very clean and the service friendly and welcoming. We had some of the best dumplings and scallion pancakes I've had outside of China Town in Boston. The other dishes we enjoyed were also very good and it was obvious they were made with care from really fresh ingredients. We plan to go back and take our friends very soon.
