Osaka Hibachi Grill is quickly becoming one of my regular spots I've been here 3 times already, and all 3 times have been great. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and comes out in a timely fashion.I always order the eel and avocado roll, which is consistently good. This time, I tried a few new things-the shrimp tempura, crunch roll, scorpion roll, hibachi fried rice, and miso soup-and everything was delicious! The rolls were fresh and well-made, the fried rice had great flavor, and the miso soup was a perfect start to the meal.The martinis here are also a nice surprise-pretty good and very reasonably priced. I tried their version of an espresso martini, the mocha martini, and for only $7.50, it was a great deal!Overall, Osaka is a solid choice for sushi, hibachi, and drinks. Ate here tonight but did not sit at the hibachi table. As usual the broth/mushroom soup was spot on and the lettuce salad was great and gingery tasting dressing. Got the shrimp hibachi and it was loaded with shrimp and nummy vegetables. Don't be shy about asking for extra yum yum sauce, it is so good! I would have tipped 20% if the service was good (which it was) but don't like that they automatically added a 20% tip. I have only ever seen that when there is a large group, there were only 2 of us. read more

I'm bumping these guys up a star - 4 stars. I can't believe it's been 9 years since I've eaten here! I went back and I have a new appreciation for Osaka. We ordered soup and a bunch of sushi rolls. It was really good. And the service was great. The prices weren't bad either. The sushi seating area with booths are up front and it's a pretty small spot. (Plus they have a sushi bar.) Most of the restaurant is dedicated to hibachi, and that seems to be where all the action is. As we ate on the sushi side, we could hear all kinds of laughing, singing, and food frying on the hot tables...birthdays & parties. It sounds like WAY more fun on the hibachi side! We ate at the Hibachi grill.It was Mother's Day & they had some specials. We both had the Shrimp, Chicken & Steak special with fried rice. We have had the filet stake before & it was excellent. Didn't "catch" that the special just said steak, not filet steak. I assume we got sirloin steak. It was not very good. Chewy and overcooked. (We ordered medium, got well done) Everything else was as good as it has been in the past. Good atmosphere. It was getting quite warm in the Hibachi room. Could of used fans or more A/C. We had a GREAT time. Went on a Monday for dinner with a Groupon, which they accepted right away. We were seated quickly. Everything tasted great and the staff was so friendly. Our waitress said she loved working there and as a customer, you always want to hear that employees are happy being there. What was unfortunate was that while we were there, we saw TWO groups dine and dash. Just awful, made a scene and everything. The restaurant did nothing wrong and were completely taken advantage of. It was sad. I tipped extra to help a little, and would love go back and support their business, especially after such an awful time for the restaurant industry. The staff was very professional about the situation. I think I was more dramatic about it than they were. I want to give a shout to our waitress. She was awesome and so on top of it. She was very friendly and professional, it really impressed me. She said she worked at the Eden Prairie location and drove quite a ways to get to work. Whatever her name is, she's awesome! read more

We made and conformed a reservation for a family dinner. Completely pointless, as they didn't actually reserve a table for us and made us wait like everyone else. So far we are at 30 mins past our reservation time, and still waiting. Will update if we ever get seated. Update: Ok, talked with a manager and they seated us about 40 mins after our reservation time. I went to celebrate my friend's birthday and the hibachi is always fun! The guy cooking the food and doing the show is Mexican and he was able to talk in Spanish with us. I never post reviews and am generally pretty lenient with restaurants when they're busy but this was a new low I've never seen before. Fiance and I tried to open a reservation to which they don't allow. Doesn't make any sense to me why they don't given the problems we had. We got seated immediately as we got there which was good, but our table wasn't clean, so we had to ask the waiter to wipe it down after waiting about 10 mins. We then waited another 15 mins to get our order taken, we ordered dumplings, sashimi and 3 rolls. At this point it wasn't too bad. We then got our sushi plates and drinks, the drinks werent bad, but the sushi plates were dirty and still had dried food on them, so we had to get them replaced. We waited around 45 mins to get our first appetizer, which was dumplings, they were okay, a little expensive for only 4 pieces tbh. We then waited another hour with no food (we were also never offered to get our drinks replenished or anything of the sort). We complained and promptly after came our sashimi only, which was very fishy, not worth the wait or the money. We then waited another hour and our sushi still hadn't come out, so we asked to pay only for our sashimi and dumplings and left. The server said our sushi was magically just getting plated, but I doubt that it was even started... All the other tables around us had a similiar experience and most had to take their food to go. Bonus: the happy birthday song has got to be the most annoying thing Ive ever heard, it plays from a speaker, is extremely loud, and with the obnoxious wait time, expect to hear it 20 times during your visit TLDR Our space and plates were dirty upon arrival, waited 2:30 hours and only got fed an appetizer and some sashimi. All other guests seemed to have the same experience. I'd avoid this place. read more

We have ordered there sushi multiple times and it's pretty decent, we normally get a roll as a appetizer if we have to wait at the bar for a table or right when we sit down for hibachi so it doesn't get in the way of the experience. There A little on the pricey side but really it's dinner and a show. The hibachi is always delicious and we can't get enough of there yum yum sauce. I've been here multiple times and never leave disappointed with the meal. There cooks are great at what they do and even for my small daughter are very accommodating with the show. The servers are quick to check in and bring new drinks and keep a eye on the tables. If you have never been it is definitely worth checking out, it's busy on weekend nights but it's a fun experience and worth waiting for a table. read more

Most excellent. Stopped by for a quick lunch as we were driving through the cities on our way home. It was a late lunch and the place was practically empty. We were seated quickly and the staff were super friendly. We settled on a couple rolls (Spicy Girl and Salmon Roll) and a seaweed salad. The seaweed salad arrived quickly and was pretty good. The wait staff dropped off some complimentary Steamed Pork Gyoza for us, as the sushi was going to take a bit longer than anticipated. Unexpected but certainly appreciated. Rolls arrived a short while later, and were certainly very good. Not sure about the Hibachi side of things, but the Sushi side is worth the visit. My wife and I have been going to the Riverdale , Applevalley and the Northtown locations for years . There is an extremely rude male server that works at both the Northtown and Riverdale locations. We were at the Riverdale location about 1-2 weeks ago. The male server waited waited on us and it ruined our dining experience and as a result we will not be going back . We have been customers for over 5 years . He snapped at us and said we didn't belong at the Riverdale location we should be at the Northtown location . Osaka's in Coon Rapids Riverdale has our favorite recipe for great hibachi. Their yum yum sauce is the best! Today we got the dragon roll sushi, filet mignon hibachi, and scallop hibachi with fried rice. I ordered delivery through the Yelp app. It only took 40 minutes from the time I confirmed to the knock at my hotel room door . This was the best sushi I have ever had....and it was delivery!!! I had the platter that included the regular nigiri selections of salmon, yellowtail, albacore/white tuna, Etc. Plus it had the best salmon roll I have ever had. I also ordered beef with broccoli to save for later and my whole order was $43, including delivery fee and tip, and probably would have fed five people. Put an online order in tonight. made the mistake of hitting the duplicate button on their website. I was ordering multiple fried rice and 2 philly rolls. I hit duplicate once for the rolls and hit it twice for the fried rice. Came home with 4 philly rolls and 1 fried rice. Of course, i never received a receipt to the email they asked for so i can't prove it wasn't my mistake. I called the restaurant and they wanted me to bring the rolls back so they could give me my fried rice. They put all 4 rolls into one container and it had already been open before we realized the mistake so they can't take them back. I believe the rolls are more expensive than the rice so that wouldn't do me any good. They said that is all they could do. Not happy with osaka right now. don't use the duplicate button. read more

There are lots of ways to experience Osaka. My usual preference is sushi at the bar. Quick sushi chefs, and they pay attention to detail. Yummy as always! The most popular way to dine is at the hibachi grill. The show and dinner is very comparable to other hibachi style restaurants in the cities. Your experience will depend a lot on your chef. But if you drown your meal in Yum Yum sauce, you are sure to leave satisfied. read more

I love going to Osaka for the hibachi grilled food. We almost always get the "Lover's Dinner for Two" with Filet Mignon, Lobster, Scallop & Shrimp. It is always prepared perfectly, it's fun to watch the chef do cool tricks as he cooks, its dinner and a show. That being said i didn't care for their spicy salmon sushi roll, we ordered it as an appetizer, it seemed to me a just little less fresh than I'm used too. This is my family's first time ever eating this establishment's food, also our first time ordering delivery/take-out from this restaurant. A+.....Food arrived fast and hot, what should have stayed cool, stayed cool. Ordering in line was EZ, after paying a prompt came up saying it would be 46-60 minutes before our food would arrive. We had dinner here today and we were very disappointed with our visit. We had a groupon that turned out to be for another location, but that is not why I'm giving it a low rating. The only reason we came here was to try it out because we had the groupon, and we ordered $50 forth of food. That food is not worth the fifty bucks we paid. The chicken fried rice is disgusting. I'm just going to start with that. The rice itself was blah, not very flavorful but not the worst thing I've tried, but the chicken in the fried rice. Oh. My. Goodness. That was the most disgusting chicken I have ever had. It felt rubbery but super squishy at the same time. I felt nauseous after eating it. The miso soup that came with the entree was also gross, and the side salad that came with it was also lame but probably one of the better things we had there. The salad was regular lettuce with one slice of tomato, one slice of cucumber and a ginger flavored sauce that reminded me of thousand island dressing. We also had the chicken wings and potstickers which weren't disgusting but very disappointing as well. The sushi were the only thing that we ate completely and enjoyed. We ordered the California roll, the Philadelphia roll and shrimp tempura roll. The sushi is the only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one. The inside of the restaurant was very janky in my opinion. It looked like it used to be really nice at some point in time but things have just not been really taken care of since they opened. Outside the letters on the sign weren't all lit up, and when we walked in, there was a huge aquarium behind the hostess stand with just one sad, lonely fish in there and absolutely no rocks or castles or anything else but water in there. The menus were very confusing because one menu was only for hibachi and the second menu was only for sushi but the menus were exactly the same. They also looked like they were made at home on Microsoft word which was unimpressive. The service was not bad, our server was kind and to the point, but she didn't come around a whole lot and didn't refill our drinks until we asked her to, even though I saw her eyeing them when she walked past a couple times. I feel like I would possibly give this place another try again sometime, but ONLY for the sushi. Everything else on that menu was very disappointing, if not downright disgusting. read more

Food was ok but super overpriced, $25 for a hibachi lunch. Service was quite efficient...until they lost my credit card. No joke. Never had this happen before, in fact I thought he was joking when he told me. After waiting while they searched for about 15 minutes, he returned to tell me they couldn't find it & I should just cancel my card. I asked if I still had to pay & he said he'd give me a discount. Apparently 20% is the highest discount they can offer, which hardly seems worth the hassle I'll have to go thru to cancel my card & request a new one. Great hibachi grill. A lot like Benni Hana but with better food and a lack of pretentiousness. The only complaint that I can muster is that they don't have a ton of waiting room when they're busy; it was literally wall to wall people when we walked in (and it was too cold to wait outside). It was a typical hibachi menu.....soup and salad to start followed by fried rice and the main course. We ordered some veggie sushi and some vegetable dumplings as well and both were great. The soup and salad were along the lines of other hibachi grills (broth based soup and small salad with a creamy dressing) but for some reason both tasted much better than I've had at similar restaurants. The fried rice and main course (veggie hibachi for me) were both excellent as well. Our chef was amusing (as were other chefs around us) with some new tricks that I haven't seen before. Our waitress was very attentive and was doing her best to keep up with the crowd. Overall it was a great experience and I will be going back again soon! read more
