They did an amazing job with the not terribly high resolution photo I sent them to turn into a 24x36 canvas print. I also immediately dropped and scratched it while trying to hang it up, and the owner very kindly did a wonderful touch up job on it to save the print. I had a fantastic experience from beginning to end working with Joey. This was my first time using this photo lab, and I couldn't be happier. I had a few large-scale photos printed from our wedding, some of which needed minor touch-ups -- removing a pool umbrella from one shot, for example, which opened up a spectacular, unobstructed view of a mesa from a hilltop. The quality of the prints was spectacular, and yes, I'm using a lot of superlatives -- because the experience and results were that great. I will absolutely be back for our next photo project. After recommendation from my sister, I dropped off my disposable camera to be processed + scanned on a Friday afternoon and received my digital photos Tuesday afternoon (they actually said it'd be ready on Wednesday, so I love the earlier delivery!). The drop off was extremely easy and quick. Standard processing and scanning is about $20 and they email you a Dropbox link with a zip file to download all your photos. I also really appreciate the quick turnaround time of Oscar's Photo Lab because we were really looking forward to seeing our vacation photos. I found my family's old olympus stylus epic and decided to give film a try. I used 35mm fujifilm. Had no idea how the photos would turn out. I emailed them first about some questions I had. They were honest and recommended a standard resolution scan to see if everything is working fine. They said they could always scan the whole roll or just selected frames as higher resolution. I felt like I could trust Oscar's Photo Lab to do the job right for a reasonable price ($20 total to process + scan). I brought in my roll on a Thursday to be developed. They told me I could expect my digital scans to be sent by the following Wednesday given the weekend, but the files were in my email even earlier by Monday. Love the fast turnaround. I was so excited. The photos turned out great - way better quality than I expected! I got busy so I ended up picking up my negatives from them 2 weeks later. No problems at all and they were stored nicely. Will be coming back here and supporting their business. The staff is very friendly. Great, speedy development and excellent scans. Their premium scans are higher res than some other labs, and they're consistently very clean and well balanced. I get a lot of color scans back I hardly edit at all, because these folks do a great job. The people here are also very nice and knowledgeable about photography and printing. The owner of the shop, Vartan, was great. He explained the shop's process & showed us the type of paper that would be used. We received a proof online that afternoon & approved it. Oscar's is my go-to place to get film developed in the city. Whether it is from a point-and-shoot or SLR camera, the results have always been amazing. The prices are fair and the turnaround is really good, usually around 3 days. To be fully transparent, because I go through rolls pretty quickly, the cost does add up and I also use mail-in services like TheDarkroom.com, which are slightly cheaper per roll. However, I still frequently go to Oscar's because of the great service and turnaround. Especially for some rolls that have captured important moments or memories to me, I'd rather drop it off at a local shop (while supporting a local business) than ship it and potentially risk the package getting lost. The fast turnaround time is an added bonus. As long as I'm living in SF, I'll be going to Oscar's for all my film processing needs. They also usually have a great selection of film (Kodak Portra, ultramax, ilford, fuji superia, etc.) so I usually also pick up a couple rolls when I come in. read more

They were very friendly with the questions I had, and also providing me some input as I am still new to film photography. Regarding the film developing, the quality was great, and it ended up being scanned and digitally delivered earlier than their estimate. I've seen Oscar's photo lab in my old SOMA neighborhood for many years but have never been until recently. I was blown away by the quality of work and WONDERFUL attitude of the staff! I've been helped by Vartan for the most part and he is absolutely splendid! I've had a Pentax camera for some time now but never really used it. I had no idea how to load it and Vartan was kind enough to help me load the film. AND BOY o BOY was a I BLOWN away by the quality of the photos. I was so happy to have stumbled upon this San Francisco Gem! After experiencing rude service, outlandish pricing and long wait times from various Photography shops around SF, It was such a relief to find Oscars. The staff was incredibly friendly on my first visit. The gentleman at the front was extremmely friendly. He answered all of my questions and was very knowledegable and patient. The prices were good and the development quality was top notch.( I even got my scans back 2 days earlier then the originally stated date of completion). Communication with the store is very effortless, as they responded to my email in less than 30 minutes after I initially sent it. I will be coming here for all my photography needs from now on. This shop seems like the last of its kind. This is a local buisness that truly has that mom and pop feel, while keeping quality high and effcient. Cant wait to bring in my next roll of film. This is the best photo laboratory in the Bay Area. Not only do they employ intelligent people that are really nice and understand that photography can be a hobby or professional. When I first started going to get my film developed I was just beginning to grow an artist and didn't feel overwhelmed at all by their staff. The MAJORITY of film development businesses have rude staff which also usually double as ego maniacs. I noticed right away that Oscars doesn't have any of that. I've been going to oscars to get my film developed for years now and have no complaints! If you can make it there and are working as a professional this is where you develop you film every time! The turnaround has never been more than 48 hours (unless it's the week of the biggest holiday). read more

I used to have my b&w developed at Gamma SF on Clementina but wasn't too happy with some of their work (the negatives were returned quite dusty and made scanning them more of a chore than it already is). I since then discovered Oscar's photolab on Brannan st and I haven't used anyone else for my b&w work since then. Super friendly staff and I normally pick up my negatives and contact sheet on Saturdays. I have had a few digital files printed there as well and they all came out very, very nicely. I've gotten a few rolls of 120 film developed here, along with 3 8"x12" prints. They are very reasonably priced, fast, and understanding. I was promised my prints by Saturday (placed the day before, on Friday), when i spoke to someone else, they asked for a rush charge. I told him I didn't want the prints done. About a minute later I received a call back, and all fees were waived. Nice people, great quality work, at fair prices. read more

I've been going to Oscar's for 20 plus years. They do it all from B&W printing to Digital scans. They offer great rates and even have a couple of reserved parking spaces in front of their shop. Just picked up some prints. They look like I printed them at Walgreens. I'm not satisfied at all with my prints:/ They aren't clear like I usually get them. I'm really upset too because all the reviews seemed like this was a legit place. Maybe they are good on digital prints but not my 35mm film prints. I'd rather go to Walgreens or back to Photoworks where they charge just as much as they do here. Very sad. Kinda want a refund. Update: They did contact me ONCE (not three times as the owner has exaggerated) but honestly the lack of photo quality is whats keeping me away from this place. I will continue to get my film printed at Photoworks who always have high quality prints:) read more
