Breakfast burrito, served until 10:30am
Andrew H.

First of all, a warning: THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY! Now, on to the rest of the review: What the hell took me so long? I don't know. This place is about the size of an overgrown coffee hut. And you may have driven by it and never noticed it. They do grab-n-go Mexican food. They've been in Anchorage a long time, they are an institution. Frankly, I should have my Yelp CA badge removed for a period of time for just now having been here. I got a breakfast burrito. It was tasty. It did not commit the #1 breakfast burrito sin: not "treating" the tortilla in some way. It should be steamed, or grilled, or pressed, or greased. I don't care how you do it, just do something to make that tortilla more elastic and pliable and/or toasted and crisped. It should not be like my buying a 12-pack of tortillas at Costco and putting some stuff inside it, like I'm making a PB&J sando! It was also cheap. ($6.50) However, it was quite small. I could've definitely eaten two. In fact, next time I will definitely order two. The low cost of entry makes that possible. Give them a shot! Just treat 'em more like a snack, unless you're prepare to order 2. The breakfast burritos ain't too grande.

Great, quick spot for a breakfast burrito on a chilly morning. I got the sausage breakfast burrito and my husband got the macho. The service was quick and accurate, the food was hot and tasty. I will mention that they're cash only so come prepared. I thought the fact that they used cut up link sausage instead of crumbled sausage patty odd, but it tasted good. Rating from a F to A+++ I give it an A+++ as a solid quick, satisfying, breakfast that gives you a bang for your buck.

Top is soft and crunchy beef tacos (corn soft tortillas and corn hard shells) and bottom is hard shell beef tacos.

Oscar's has been one of my favorite spots for years. The prices are super reasonable and the food is great. I tried the grande steak burrito recently. It was pretty good, but not very large like the name 'grande' implies. Still, I was full after eating it and I think the price was reasonable. The hot sauce also had a nice kick and was flavorful. My favorite thing on their menu is the soft and crunchy tacos, perfectly cheesy and crunchy. It's a great, quick place for tacos and I recommend everyone try it out!

STOP!!! I have been driving by this little taco truck for over 25 years and have never stopped.... Until today. I was fortunate enough to be on premises when the 3 yo daughter to one of the three cooks, granddaughter to another, came in for a burrito. The pure joy that that little girl displayed in seeing her dad and her papa made the trip worth it in itself. I remembered why I like Mom and Pop Shoppe's so much. The little girl then proceeded to invite everyone to come in and get to the counter and inform us all that there is enough food for everyone. It was like getting dessert first. I chose the Verde Gigantica (Sp?) Burrito. It is made on a 12 inch spinach tortilla and amply stuffed to the gills with burrito fixings. The thing was almost as big as my forearm. I got it to go and attempted to eat it as I navigated my way across town. (Note to self, do not repeat.) I wound up with hot sauce dripping in my beard, shirt, and dripping down my arm. This is not a complaint, Just an acknowledgment of the need for commitment to consuming this beast. The burrito itself was delicious. I look forward to going back and trying the Chili Riano. I am doing you a solid by letting you in on one of Anchorage's best kept secrets. Do yourself a favor and go give them a shot. If you're lucky, you might just get to Experience the full magic of a locally owned and operated, outfit.

Long ass hair inside the burrito and a shorter black one in the rice...

Very friendly and fast service, the ground beef tacos were very salty. Beans and rice were good.

We've been back several more times. The food is consistently good and still one of our favorite spots in Anchorage for a quick lunch.

Disappointing. I asked for an almond latte (I specified almond syrup, not milk), I received my…read moredrink and drove away. The drink was incredibly hot so I did not try it until I reached my destination. I'm not sure if she didn't add any syrup at all or if she used almond milk, but the drink was not an almond latte. It's disappointing to pay $5 ($4 plus tip) to get a drink I took two sips of. Not sure that I'll be back. The barista was friendly though. Update: After leaving my initial review Josie (the owner) reached out to me and offered a $10 gift card and an apology for my experience. I went back today to try it out again.. I ordered a strawberry, watermelon & lime redbull. The barista didn't ask me what size or whether or not I wanted cream or whip cream.. the drink is ok, but not my favorite. All in all great customer service, but not my favorite drinks.

This is my ultimate favorite coffee shop in Anchorage for a drive thru shack. Although this one…read moreisn't really a shack its super nice! I love that my M-F Barista is there at 6 and she knows me by my face and not my car, as her comment one day was "you have been in three different cars in the past week". Her "Salted Caramel White Mocha" is to DIE for! Pile on that sugar, its hard for me to stay away! Every 11th drink is free with there punch card. $2.50 Lattes for happy hour between 2-5 maybe 2-4? Unsure....but thats super cheap! They aren't open on Sundays. Make sure to come down A Street to Fireweed (On left side, next to arctic office supply), if you come down Fireweed towards Spenard your going to have to make a U-turn at C Street (pain in the arse). If your coming Fireweed towards Seward you can just hang a right. It will be make life easier if you just take northern lights to A street, even if you have to make a circle. This is there only downfall, great corner, horrible one way location.

Excellent food and service. Great interior design. My wife's favorite restaurant in Anchorage!read more

First time trying this place so I went to reviews and looked at some good pics and the Molcajete…read morestood out for sure! This is located not even 2 sec walk away from the Hilton hotel. I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.
