I needed to get something for lunch and decided to try Oschcola's Home Cooking. This place has been on my radar for a few weeks. I'd passed it a few times while driving on Airport Boulevard. I was working from home so I went there on my lunch break. When I walked inside I saw a few patrons sitting at tables. There was a a buffet style counter set up with the work staff behind it. Each of them greeted me as I walked toward the counter. I was asked what I wanted and I said thought instantly about the fried chicken I saw. I ordered that and the meal comes with three sides and cornbread as well. I chose mac and cheese, black eyed peas, and mash potatoes and gravy. The server rung me up and I took my plate to go. I can't remember the first thing I tasted when I got home. I believe it was the mac and cheese. It doesn't really matter. The sides were really good. Mac and cheese is usually my favorite side but I thoroughly enjoyed the black eyed peas. Don't get me wrong the mac and cheese was excellent but the peas were superb. The mash potatoes were creamy and the gravy was savory. The cornbread was the type that had the pieces of corn in it. I liked it. Now the main course was of course the chicken. It really looked and tasted like authentic homemade fried chicken. I loved the seasoning on the chicken. It was some of the best chicken I've had in a while. This is a basic meat and three cafeteria style place in a strip mall on airport. Not fancy. It was really good. Their red beans are on point and I'm picky. Pork chops and fried chicken were also great. Sides included Mac and cheese, Lima beans, green beans, all the good things. Our meals each filled a Styrofoam to go container with leftovers for lunch the next day. There's a few tables to sit down or you can take out. Recommended. read more

For home style southern cooking, it's incredibly good. Just like my grandmothers could cook, and that was 55 years ago. The service was quick as they have the food all ready to serve. I had the fried chicken, and my wife had the baked. Both were mouthwatering. read more

The strawberry cake with strawberry icing was very moist and a slice of summer's heaven. They need a little more variety on the menu and a signature drink like homemade strawberry lemonade! Then there were three sides to choose from. I believe the Spinich Madeline stole the show. It was outstanding. We topped the meal off with homemade strawberry cake. Everything was hot and done well. I was eager to try this establishment? However, I could have channeled that energy elsewhere. The restaurant had an 80 health score, which I didn't see until after I paid. . The vegetables were seasoned well, but the meats (pork chops and fried chicken) were very bland. I must add the chops were cooked fresh. Food was excellent southern style cooking at its best with nice portions like madea's house. I had the Baked chicken which was moist and seasoned. I didnt really get to eat it because I got stuck on the redbeans and rice with the coneque sausage and meat with that moist delicious corn bread and that filled me up. So I'll eat my Macaroni & Cheese, Collard Greens and Baked chicken for dinner. BTW did I mention it was only $15 with taxes. I pay that for a Subway sandwich meal. I will be back on a regular. Excellent meat and three, country fixins kind of place. I had the fried chicken and it was absolutely wonderful southern style fried chicken the way grandma makes. I had mac'n'cheese and it was the Thanksgiving homecooked style, nice and sharp, probably worcestered like that classic recipe everybody down here knows and loves, topped with a thick layer of baked cheddar. Utterly delicious. I also had black eyed peas with snaps and they were flavored wonderfully. The butter beans melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff was so kind to us.
