I had heard about Coach Brown's BBQ by word of mouth. Actually someone had told me about because they heard someone talk about it. I decided to try it out for myself. Before I drove to the location I looked at the menu online. I already had an idea of what I wanted. When I got there were some people were outside waiting for their food. The building is set up sort of like a concession stand. I went up to the stand and looked at the menu. I ordered the smoked wings medium plate. It comes with 2 sides. I chose the mac and cheese and the loaded baked beans. I paid for my meal and they gave me a little pager that would let me know when my food was ready. It really didn't take long at all for my food to get ready. When I got home I was ready to eat. The food smelled delicious. I tried the baked beans first. They had what seemed to be ground beef in them. It was pretty good. The mac and cheese was next. You could tell it was baked. My serving had a little crust from the top and it was tasty. The smoked wings were excellent. The smokiness was just right. I don't remember how many pieces I had but there was an assorted of flats and drums. I asked for the sauce on the wings. The sauce was really good. The plate came with a piece of white bread. There was sauce left so I got a couple of pieces of bread I had at home and scooped the remaining sauce up. Ok so don't come at me for this, on this day it was my experience. After seeing great reviews was excited to try Coach Brown's. So let's get to it: They are a family owned bbq joint. They didn't have indoor seating but had several tables available out front. The lady taking orders was patient with an excited first time customer, and helpful by answering all my questions. I ordered every side that was available that day, ( except fries ) a rack of ribs, and a 2 meat plate(brisket and chicken salad). Sides Regular potato salad - tasted like it was from Sam's Loaded potato salad- tasted more homemade and good Coleslaw- lightly dressed with mayo vinegar dressing, not super sweet just enough - good Baked Beans- kicked up with meat and bbq sauce - good Green beans- canned but seasoning added to them - meh Collards - well done, seasoned well but not so much you can't taste the actual collard green Mac and cheese- homemade- was ok Fried green tomatoes - they were good, eat this there if you order, they didn't travel well Cornbread - was good Sauce - semi sweet with a nice apple cider vinegar kick Meats Full rack of pork ribs - the main cut ribs were seasoned well and had great smoke flavor, tender and delicious. You also get the tips and ends, as with most instances some pieces tender and some were tough. Brisket - very well done, very tender and fantastic flavor ( highly recommended this ) Chicken salad- it's a fine mince so be prepared for the texture, nice light smoke flavor, a few chopped veg added in. - good Banana pudding- it was just ok, the nilla wafers were mushy and I only had a few banana pieces in my large order, it was mostly whip topping and mushy cookies. Let me finish with my tastes and yours are different, just because I didn't like some things doesn't mean you will. Please try this place out see what you think. Service was so so.... To the point and rushed. The ribs were amazing, greens were great, Mac was very good, pulled pork was just ok. Bbq sauce was very good. Ambiance is just picnic tables and a school bus, but typical shed type bbq place. Our order was a little mixed up but resolved quickly. Lemonade and tea were spectacular. A very friendly lady took my order and a different (also friendly) lady brought my food to the window so I'd rate the service as great. I went for one thing only and that was to try the brisket, which I love. Ribs, pulled pork, chicken and other meats I like to smoke myself. But briskets are way bigger than my small family can eat. I did ask the lady if the brisket was juicy but should have asked her if it was sliced or pulled. I didn't. It's hard to conceal the drier and tougher flat when it's sliced so they chop and pull it and mix this part with the fall apart juicy point muscle. Anyway I think I got somebody else's share of the flat meat. It WAS NOT dry only because it was drowned in beef tallow, which is delicious but it reminded me of a smoked chuck roast that had been chopped and pulled. A little beef flavor but absolutely not as flavorful and juicy as a good brisket. I assumed it was smoked but I didn't taste a hint of smoke in my sandwich. I had high hopes for a good brisket but left with two sandwiches and two small bags of chips (no drinks) for $35+. My wife and I ate half a sandwich each and left the rest for the dogs. This was our 1st time coming here and the smoked meat and smoked des we ordered was on point! We got a a smoked chicken, 1/2 rack of ribs, a brisket sandwich, Mac & cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, collard greens and a little something special, they had collard green-mac'n cheese eggrolls and crawfish eggroll! The meat was smoked to perfection, great smoke flavor. The Ribs were good and meaty, the Chicken was fall of the bone and melted in your mouth, the Brisket sandwich had plenty of meat on the bun with pickles, it can make ya tongue slap ya brains out, it was so good! The Mac & Cheese was so creamy and had a touch of smoke flavor it wasn't over powering with the smoke flavor like some bbq places. The Potato Salad was like a Baked Potato with all the fix'ns. The Coleslaw was nice and tasty too. It had a nice touch of sweet but not overly sweet like some people do. The meat and sides were good. We made a mistake in ordering the meat with sauce on it, instead of on the side, and we found that we were not in love with the vinegary sauce. It was hot outside and we should have eaten in the car, or taken our food home, but instead, chose to sit at the picnic tables, and the flies were terrible. Again, our mistake. We love Coach Brown's. Hands down it's the best bbq in the area, by a LOT. I've gotten my whole family hooked on it. The meats are very smoky and the chicken is the best I've ever had, so juicy and flavorful. I hate when you get bbq and can't taste the smoke but that is never an issue here! Their sides are great too, love the mac and cheese, potato salad, and the yams (wished they were offered more often). Their Sunday specials are great, they do a hamburger steak sometimes that is smoked and so good, I check every week for that and the yams lol. Great brisket beef stew too. Great desserts, homemade banana pudding. Not any of that boxed pudding with some wafers, this is like my mom's. It comes out fast, we've never had to wait long for our orders. 10 minutes max maybe. And now they've added some seating areas which is nice, even a school bus with tables. The only thing that keeps us from eating here several times a week (lol, it is that good) is that it can get pricey. It's usually around $50 for two of us, but they do run some specials during the week that are great (like the half chicken w/ two sides for $15). I had passed by several times and my son and I said we needed to try it sometime. I finally stopped in and ordered. The selection is very good with meat ranging from chicken to brisket to pork. They have several sides to go with the meals with baked beans, slaw, etc. I had the pulled pork plate. The meat was done just right. The taste and texture juicy, very flavorful and very tender. I had baked beans with mine and my son had mac and cheese with his. The baked beans were very good with bits of meat and bacon fat and a sauce that has just the right amount of vinegar to add a bit of "twang" to the sweetness of the sauce. The same can be said for the sauce for the meat. I tried my son's mac and cheese and will order my own the next visit. Excellent melt on the cheese and a light touch of paprika. My taste buds were in heaven. We also tried the banana pudding. The problem I have with their pudding is they don't have a container large enough for me to take as much at one time as I would like to have at one time. Pudding, bananas and vanilla wafers put together in a way to cause my tastebuds to jump for joy and my brain to remember the awesome pudding my mom used to make. I hesitated to review Coach Brown's. I didn't want a long line when I went for my BBQ fix but decided that I better let's folks know about Coach Brown's BBQ so they can stick around a long time!
