But the only thing better than the coffee was the service! The guy behind the counter is hilarious, without trying to be. The woman on line before me asked for extra foam. The barista didn't make a design in the steamed milk for her (I got a heart). When she complained he said with all seriousness, "lady you asks for extra foam. Here's the thing, I have always loved Oslo, it is my favorite, but I was travel nursing and would leave the city for months at a time. I never found anything as good. Fast forward 3 years, I take permanent work in Manhattan, and what do you know... Oslo is now my neighbor. Bad for my wallet, great for my soul. I have succumbed to the reality that I'm just gonna go here every day. I am obsessed with everything Oslo is about. The way they source their beans, the taste, the people I've met that also go there every day (hey, Matt!) Anyone who speaks ill of the baristas on here, I'm sorry but you're wrong. I love going in and knowing them by name, they know me by name, we chit chat, we ask about each other's days. It is so dang sweet. Shout out to Kate, Jill, Kat, Nika, Greyson, and anyone else I missed. I LOVE Oslo coffee, but I had a negative experience at this particular location. I started bringing spare change from home to contribute to their tip jar. This morning when I dropped the change in, the barista leaned in to inspect it and commented, "That's a lot of pennies, my friend." I felt embarrassed and thought it was uncalled for. I didn't even know what I put in; it could have been a mix of coins. It seemed odd that she double-checked. Now, I can't go there anymore due to the embarrassment I felt. Their iced mocha is so smooth! Great cup of quality coffee. Service was wonderful as well. They do not accept cash right now- only card and Apple Pay. Decided to make some cold brew at home and they recommended the Odin blend. I expected the same quality and flavor and that's what I got. Coffee plus beans came to around $20. Have been to the Brooklyn location and got very disappointed by their Americano, decided to give a second chance to the other location at UES. This time, I chose cappuccino. Apparently with the help of steamed milk, the taste became much more balanced and well absorbed. The ambiance was also much better (due to the quietness). Damn, everything about this place was great. I was visiting New York from California and we had a place to stay in the Upper East side. I checked Yelp and Oslo Coffee Roasters was the closest to where I was staying so I decided to walk to the cafe. The interior felt like I was at home or in my office. Had a board full of ads and paper and a bench near the door to just sit and relax drinking a delicious cup of joe. Apparently, this coffee shop is pretty lowkey in New York (none of my New York friends heard of this cafe) but this place definitely deserve more recognition. I ordered a cold brew ($4) and it tasted so good. They roast their own beans and call their house blend "Thor" which I found pretty interesting. This is something new I haven't tried in California and I really wish a cafe in California would brew the Thor House Blend as well. If I have any friends visiting New York, I will definitely recommend them to try this place out! read more

The near perfect YELP rating brought me to Oslo Coffee Roasters, and the $2 Lattes for the month of February sign, as usual, made me believe Yelp let me in the right direction. The latte was delicious, but it wasn't piping hot as I hoped it would be, and it seemed to have a lot of foam leaving not so much room for the coffee. They only had one person working while I was there, and he was multitasking as much as he could, but the wait was fairly long. The high note was the carmelized custard that I got as a treat. If I could give Oslo 6 stars, I would. Honestly, it's been such a long time since I have found a coffee joint with a roast that I feel like I could develop an addictive relationship with. The roast at Oslo is buttery and smooth. It's a dark roast, so it has a bold flavor, but it's also incredibly well balanced! My problem with most dark roasts has consistently been the acidity. Especially when the espresso has been sitting for a while, whether alone or in a latte/cappuccino, the sharp taste makes it unbearable for me. Oslo's roast is quite the opposite! I was so happy to discover how rounded the taste of their coffee is! I had ordered a soy latte, and the nuttiness of the soy milk blended so well with the coffee that it made the espresso taste almost sweet. Even when the latte got cold, I did not notice any acidity, which for me is as good as coffee can get! I drank every last drip drop of that latte and licked the remaining foam off of the rim clean, before my boyfriend even realized that the coffee was gone! Like many comments have mentioned, the space at the 75th street location is rather small. It has very limited seating inside and outside, so really you're looking at getting a coffee to-go when you visit Oslo. The barista was very friendly and warm, and service was excellent! The price for a large latte is $4.50, which is very comparable to Starbucks, except you get way better coffee. The only downside is I wish they had more pastries to go along with the coffee, but overall I'd STRONGLY recommend Oslo! read more

Narrow yet cozy, earthy yet modern, with wood panels and straight lines this place is it! Oslo coffee is probably the best coffee and café I've been to in the UES east of Lexington. The house drip is delicious, the temperature of the coffee was perfect, hot but not burning, the price a flat $2, cheaper than Starbucks $2.01, and much more delicious. The coffee is fair trade, organic, and they roast it in BK! Getting soy milk wasn't a hassle, it was readily available! They even have cortados! The place is cash only, but their is an ATM inside! No wifi here (which is actually fine, the place and space isn't meant for computers or working), you should be focused on socializing around a tasty brew of coffee instead. The barista today has the look of a San Franciscan (backwards cap, thick frames black glasses, fitted lumberjack hoodie and small gauge earings) and she was really nice. The vibe of this place is great! It's small, comfortable, earthy, and organic, with wood on the floors, walls and benches (comfortable too). The music is just right (currently playing Solange Knowles), the mood is right, and the flow is right - it's busy with customers but not crowded, and the climate is warm but not stuffy, which is perfect for a cool fall and gloomy day! Overall this place gets a 4.5 stars. I still can't give it a 5 because I know there is better coffee in NYC (Joes and Blue Bottle, reviews to come), but it's damn close and I would definitely come back again! read more

My fiancé and I went here to get a coffee this morning. The lady at the front taking orders sees us walk in and wait in line. She proceeds to take the order of the person in front of us. However when it's our turn, she looks past us in disgust, like she didn't want to serve us, and calls the (white) person behind us to take his order, and we're just waiting there, confused as to why this lady isn't taking our order. As the only People of Color in Oslo, I can't help but view this as a micro aggression. We just left instead of confronting her, because once again, we're not gonna be viewed as the angry POC that some of these racist establishments gaslight us to be through these type of actions. I have some mixed feelings for Oslo. I think there might be some inconsistency. I've been there a handful of times, strictly for coffee, cold brews, or Americanos, particularly in the mornings on my way to work. The coffee is slightly more than most other cafes; a regular small coffee is about $2.75. Considering the price, you'd expect maybe better coffee, but there are days I prefer to avoid the risk and just opt for the watered down deli coffee down the street because it isn't bitter and costs $1.25. Oslo coffee is mostly good, but I have had a share of some bad coffee days. I can't speak for the cappucinos or lattes, etc. The coffee, as noted, tends to be fruity bitter and not the type of bitter I find particularly enjoyable. Somes days though, the coffee is perfectly fine. It could be the roast blend, or maybe the coffee is overroasted. Whatever it is, not being a coffee expert, I have just noted on and off bitterness. Otherwise, the baked goods here are pretty okay. I enjoy their bran muffin and the croissants. The raspberry pop tart is okay. There is no toaster here, so consider this place is more for a quick coffee and bite on the go. The line just moves, and you are in and out the door. There is very little seating amd some seats right outside. Overall, this cafe is a fine beanery/coffee shop in the middle of the Upper East. It's convenient and fast for better quality coffee, though the inconsistency as of late might be my only complaint. Some days are great, other days, the coffee can be a bit sour or bitter. Nonetheless, I still return to this little spot in the mornings for a quick coffee. read more
