I wanted to rave about this restaurant, as we had our hearts set on steak and seafood. I had the…read moresteak sandwich which was quite a good size portion with nice dipping sauce. Lots of french fries come with the platter. My husband had the catfish and fries. The catfish was a bit over cooked. The food was good, but not delicious. Without the dipping sauce the sandwich was quite dry. The service was fine, our waiter was a bit slow on checking up on things, however. All in all, would probably not return.

It's a beautiful place with a nice dining room and bar area. The menu has just enough to choose from that anyone should be able to pick something they would like. Nothing is too fussy and the prices are decent for a steakhouse in a small mountain town that depends a lot on tourism. I have been there for lunch, for dinner, by myself and with friends - probably over a dozen times over several years. Not once have I walked away feeling like I had a great experience. The service is usually decent but the servers always seem way more interested in chatting with each other or hanging out with other employees. On more than one occasion I've heard them complain about other customers or getting another table as more customers come in the door. The food is generally okay but nothing special. It's not a complicated menu but you can order the same thing more than once and who knows how it will show up to the table. Over or under cooked, way over seasoned or missing ingredients listed on the menu - this has happened to me several times. Walking into the restaurant you are rarely greeted by someone right away. It takes a while for anyone to notice you and then if someone does it's usually a busy server or someone who doesn't look like they work there. Today I was greeted by someone who was dressed like they were cleaning out their garage. Several times I've been seated at the only clean table in the room. By the time I've left, the tables have all been dirty and no one has touched them during my entire meal. A table was only cleaned if it was needed for someone else coming in. It's a really bad impression. Something needs to be done to isolate the kitchen from the front of the house. You can hear the kitchen staff yelling, cursing and playing loud heavy metal music throughout the dining room and bar. During meals I have learned a lot about the personal lives of the staff and not because I wanted to. All of these things are fixable. I keep going back because I'll hear that there is a new manager or a new chef but it seems like nothing ever really changes and it's a shame.

The interior was charming and surprisingly classy. The service was attentive and helpful, and the food was great. They were very accommodating of our two year old. They were out of the wine my friend requested and did not have cranberry juice for a cran/soda for me. Not off to a good start. The bread was mediocre at best. And the server didn't offer to do olive oil/red wine mix for us. I was craving something fresh so I ordered a Caprese salad to start. There was nothing great about it. The mozzarella was thick and dense. I also ordered a garden salad and lasagna. The garden salad smelled and tasted like dirt - like it had not been washed - that got pushed to the side and uneaten. The lasagna - ugggggg - how do you screw up lasagna???? There were gobs of ricotta cheese on top of the dish - literally piles of cheese- and not in a good way. I scraped most of it off and set it aside. The dish itself was bland and greasy. Honestly, Stouffers makes better lasagna - truth. We were offered dessert but passed. Ben and Jerry's was a safer bet. Overall I'd rate this meal a 2 out of 10 - they had Diet Coke so that was a win.

As a traveler from out of state accompanied by two trained service dogs, I was shocked by the…read moretreatment we received at Winary Bistro. The manager incorrectly stated that service dogs must wear a vest to be recognized as service animals and demanded that we provide a "service animal certificate." We were then told that such certificates were not valid and that service animals must be registered in New Mexico before being allowed into the restaurant. None of these statements are consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Service dogs are not required to wear vests, carry certificates, or be registered with any state in order to access public accommodations. It is deeply concerning that a manager responsible for serving the public appears to have such a poor understanding of federal disability law. The experience was embarrassing, discriminatory, and completely unnecessary. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States with my service dogs and have never been treated this way. I strongly encourage management to educate staff on ADA requirements before another customer is subjected to the same treatment. Until then, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone who relies on a service animal.

My blackened salmon was a tad bit dry but still tender in some sections. My friends enjoyed the steak salad. The charcuterie board was also decent. The staff was very nice and attentive. The vibe was kind of like a booth seating at like a Denny's but fancier with wine. We had to wait for a good 15-20min even though there was ample seating in multiple areas of this large establishment. Overall good pit stop.

The chips were fresh and the salsas were tasty! I ordered chilaquiles, he recommended the red ones. The salsa was delicious (a bit too hot, and I can take hot) the chilaquiles chips were freshly fried and they were crispy and chewy, perfect to my taste. I paired them with a pineapple agua fresca, and it was also made from real fruit and delicious. I was very glad I decided to give it a chance. The food was way better than average. Pretty much the the best Mexican food I've had in Ruidoso. It had real depth and real Mexican tones. Not just some guy making Mexican food, but someone that knows the true depth of Mexican flavors.

The variety of salsa they had were quite good too, they varied in spiciness so I'm sure anyone could find one they'd like. The caldo de res was good, but I prefer it made with a different type of meat. The pozole could have used more hominy but that's just personal preference, it had good flavor but it was very spicy so keep that in mind if you can't handle heat. The place has plenty of seating, free WiFi, and good friendly service. The only thing lacking was ambiance, at least when I was there, there was no music playing, just the sound of other customers eating, and my thoughts. You order at the counter, they do have to-go orders, and they have a large variety of options on their menu so if you're hungry I'm sure you'll find something you'll like.
