Dr. Harold Magoun, the first osteopath to treat me, would always say, "Life is movement." Movement of the whole body requires all the systems function and move. Anything that blocks the movement in these systems can cause dis-ease. If the cerebral spinal fluid isn't moving properly, then the nerve signals don't move effectively or at all. If there is a muscle spasm then the blood flow is inhibited. A bone out of place can block the movement of blood, nerve signals, and the overall movement of that body part. The doctor's at OIM are experts at finding these blocks and removing them. The first treatment I had on my cranium I literally could feel the fluid flowing in my brain. I have had many surgeries to fuse my spine due to scoliosis. My fusion goes from the mid chest down to my pelvis. My neck and upper spine are the only parts not fused, and they have taken a toll. I have migraines and arthritis in my neck. There have been many occasions of either having a migraine or the beginning of a migraine that Dr. Zarou or Dr. Anglund has adjusted me, released the muscle blockages, and stopped the migraine. Most visits I come having pain somewhere. After Dr. Zarou treats me, I leave with no pain at all. Lori and Jenn have helped me with exercises and cold laser treatments that have helped me lower the soreness in my muscles. Dr. Anglund's nutritional counseling and testing led to the discovery that my body couldn't break down vitamin B12, which led to a deficiency. Once I started taking the right type of B12 the migraines decreased dramatically. Dr. Anglund also prescribed a homeopathic medicine that ended up decreasing my swollen lymph glands in my neck. Previous to this, I had been on three rounds of antibiotics. The swelling went down after the homeopathic medicine. Most amazing immediate results I've ever had in a medical atmosphere! I've been a life long avid runner since age 13, my passion. I'm now approaching 50. So when my leg starting going numb from knee down after runs, I attributed it to age and years of running. I just dealt with it. Until one day I couldn't walk after an 8 mile run. I was on crutches for a week, thought it was severe shin splints or stress fracture. My neighbor who is on the staff at OIM asked about my injury. I have been seeing Osteopathic physicians (DO) for about 4 years for both chronic and acute issues. Overall, I've met and been treated by over 15 different DOs. They all have had slightly different methods of treating, and through their different methods of treating, I have been guided towards health and healing. While exploring the different DO physician experiences in and around Denver, I found Osteopathic Integrative Medicine and I haven't continued exploring since then! Osteopathic Integrative Medicine (OIM) has become my go-to place for continuing maintenance and/or checkups. I absolutely love that all their medical providers (Osteopathic physicians, athletic trainers, acupuncturists, and massage therapists) collaborate on patients, if needed, and advise each other on how best to promote the individual's personal pathway to health. I have been seen by almost all of the DO's at OIM and they are amazing! Their treatment styles run the gamut from gentle and subtle to more direct. None of them have compromised my healing process by being reticent to refer for more imaging or to apply medications to the issue (injections/prolotherapy). As the face of OIM, the office staff have always been helpful and very good at coordinating the usually difficult task of balancing patient and providers' schedules and needs. OIM is a very innovative and progressive collective of medical providers that excel at promoting health and wellness in their patients. I would highly recommend this practice--particularly Dr. Lopez--to anyone seeking out osteopathic care. I was in an auto accident last year and initially sought treatment through a chiropractor and a physical therapist. The PT kept telling me that the amount of pain I was in nearly a year later was normal; that it was a sign I wasn't doing my prescribed exercises enough (which at the time I was preforming regularly 2-3 times a day). Then, just before Christmas, I slipped on some ice and threw out my back. I had never been in such agony. For 72 hours I was unable to move and even pain killers were not helping. Finally, my husband insisted I try a different path. He found OIM through our insurance provider, and Dr. Lopez was able to fit me in that day. He was incredibly considerate and sympathetic to how much I was hurting, but he was also optimistic he could help to make it better. After I left his office, I was able to walk unassisted for the first time since the fall. I came back a few days later, and after a second adjustment, I was feeling as good as I was before the slip. The third--which I was able to span into the next week (a far cry from the 2-3 weekly visits to the PT and chiro)--I felt better than I had since the car accident. Now, for the first time, I have hope that not only will I feel "normal" again, but I may be able to move and LIVE in ways I didn't think was possible. I first came to OIM in November 2018 after chasing hip and leg pain for several months. Prior to finding OIM, I had seen physical therapists, massage therapists and chiropractors, and experienced short-term relief that was undone almost immediately after each appointment. I am a professional athlete and was at a point I could no longer even train. After six months of treatments at OIM, I am currently nearly pain free for the first time in over 3 years. I'm a weekend warrior cyclist, and had been ignoring some old injuries for years, until I couldn't look over my shoulder for overtaking traffic. Traditional Physical Therapy had gotten me only so far. I started seeing Dr. Zarou and Jenn, and have achieved great results. I got back in to racing and have felt better and better. Jenn took me through the Functional Movement Assessment, which objectively measures range of motion and performance, and identifies areas of weakness and tension. Working the program I objectively vastly improved. Of course, I'm prone to over-doing it, so any little new ache or pain is rapidly diagnosed and treated. This summer I crashed and broke my pelvis and collarbone, and of course have a new bunch of musculoskeletal compensations to re-balance. Dr. Zarou has a near-mystical ability to sense tension in the body and release it. Jenn is great to work with and always figures out where I need work and an exercise program to get me there. Dr. Woessner has truly given me my life back! I have been seeing Dr. W for about 4 years now. I've struggled significantly for years with constant unbearable muscular skeletal pain in my neck, shoulders and lower back. My son has a seizure disorder that has been treated for years with very heavy duty meds that carry significant side effects. Dr. Anglund with one visit and treatment took away 2 of the 3 medications that were causing difficult side effects and offered several alternative ways to deal with the seizure activity. After several visits with Dr. Anglund plus treatments with Kim Engell, my son has regained his joy in life and has felt hopeful for the first time in years with regard to his condition. The office has a different feel to it than many medical offices, a positive "vibe" that puts one at ease. My son will be dealing with his condition for the rest of his life, but he knows where he can find excellent help and support. Because of my son's positive experience I visited Kim Engell in her Fort Collins office for some issues of my own, and have experienced great improvement. I was recommended to go to OIM for chronic headaches and trouble with vertigo and neck issues. I have had very good results with those issues and the treatments have helped me shift other issues in my body as well. The 2 doctors that have treated me so far, each one having a very different style, have done great work for me which is not easy since my nervous system is quite sensitive I recommend this place highly if you have been searching for help for a long time and would also suggest asking the staff to help you find the right doctor for your issues. Being a massage therapist myself I know that not everyone is suited for everyone. I feel blessed that I fund OIM , I feel much better than I did a year ago when I started getting treated. I've now been with OIM for 6 years and can't say enough good things about them. They have helped me with acute problems and with improving chronic ones. In October 2013, I fractured my sacrum, and Jenn Dougherty, Certified Athletic Trainer, put me back together again, better than ever! I also worked with Dr Anglund and Dr Zarou. I was in a wheelchair for 2 months and Jenn used the cold laser and gave me exercises to do basic strengthening that we built on as I got better. My posture is better and my riding is better! I've been coming here for the past 3 months and can't say enough about how amazing the staff is and Dr. Zarou! I've suffered from extreme lower back, pelvic pain, sciatic nerve pain, muscle spasms and pelvic floor pain. Most days I couldn't walk and would cry every day before coming here. I originally took my month-old baby girl to get adjusted after having a tongue tie release. It helped her recovery and improved our breastfeeding experience so much! After that, my husband and I started going to get adjusted. Him with hip problems and me with - seems like everything else - hurting, were able to start getting our bodies aligned better and have improved our quality of life.
