Everything about this place was wonderful! It's in such a cute little courtyard. The food was delicious as much as the wine. Service was great and so close from the port. Away from the crowds and couldn't beat the price. It was such a great break from all the nice and fancy restaurants where lunch or dinner is easily ($250+).
A little off the beaten path and yet packed with diners, I was really glad to wind up at Ae Sconte. It's clear the guests are primarily tourists, but nevertheless, the menu aspires to be more than just 5 different styles of spaghetti and wine by the glass. My guest and I finished every bite of fresh and seasoned bread, turbot, and salmon. In a place as touristy as Venice, that's a home run.
This is just a meh restaurant. The pros are the customer service (the servers were all nice) and the ambience in the courtyard location. The quality of the food and pricing were the cons. I got the peppercorn steak, and it was a very cheap cut of beef and the flavor of the sauce wasn't good at all. A half bottle of "house wine" was 22 euros. Overall, for a very average meal, our check was 150 euros (which included the one steak dish, 2 pastas, and a half carafe of wine). They also had a steep cover and added 12% service automatically. There are way better restaurants in Venice with better views and food, so I can't really recommend this place.
I was utterly blown away this restaurant in all categories: food, ambiance, service, location, character, serving size (presentation). We were recommended this restaurant by our concierge at hotel Firenze, Bruno! A local Venetian. This restaurant knocked it out of the park for me for a few reasons: 1) FOOD: We had the caprese which was expertly put together. The ingredients were fresh and cold and so tasty to the bite. VERY large and generous portions of buffalo mozzarella. We also had the peppercorn steak and the crab and lobster tagliatelle. Both were FANTASTICO! A must try. My mother's steak was cooked expertly, it was tender, juicy, and resting in a delicious peppercorn cream sauce. Bravo! My lobster and crab tagliatelle tasted just like the sea. It was dressed in a beautiful and light, sea salt tomato sauce with GENEROUS portions of crab and lobster. The portions were so fair for the price. Totally recommend. 2) SERVICE: I ate in 10 restaurants while I was in Venice and this place had the best service by a landslide. Our waiter, Luca, was so wonderful. He was very good to us. He gave us everything we needed. Actually all of the waiters were very kind to us Americans. They welcomed us with open arms and smiled frequently. They were attentive and quick to respond to your needs. They were also making jokes with us and making us feel at home. Really enjoyed all the waiter here. Prosecco at the beginning of the meal and the limoncello of the meal, on the house! So generous. 3) LOCATION: easy to find if you have google or Apple maps on your phone. It's about a 5 minute walk from San Marco square. However if you don't have maps, it's not that easy. You may get lost. It's very close tor the aqua palace hotel, just after the bridge. 4) AMBIANCE: romantic, lovely, clean, has all the amenities that you need. In the square. I felt very at home in the restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating. 5) CHARACTER: this place is truly unique. For the generous portions and the flavor of the dishes. This is the best Italian you can get in Venice. I would come back again and again if I were local.
We were directed to this restaurant from our hotel for good seafood, but coming from San Francisco, CA, the seafood is not good. The seafood was not even fresh and the food was salty. The service was slow. The food came 30 mins after we ordered and my entree came when everyone was finished eating. I ate everyone else's food while waiting for mine, and when we were done eating, my entree finally came. I tried to asked them to return it as we were ready to get the check, but the waiter said they would still billed us for it, so we took it to go. I don't know when I'm going to eat it, but I would not be back here. Don't waste your time if you like fresh seafood and don't like salty food.
Truly enjoyed this seafood restaurant. This is a hotel recommended restaurant so you will find mostly foreigners eating here. So many things wonderful about this place. First the environment. You can sit outside or inside. Outside, this restaurant is the only thing in the little square. It is off the main path so you don't have much traffic of people through here. Inside is air conditioned and very well appointed. The food was just what we wanted. We got scallops with stuffing on a clam shell. Really good. Then for main course the seafood linguine and the baked bass with potatoes. Seafood linguine was exactly what I hoped it would be. So much taste and different types of fresh seafood. Don't miss this one. The baked bass was good yet not a bold taste. They bring it out and show you when cooked as a whole fish and then they can filet for you for easy eating. You do get the Lemon Wine here to finish your meal. Famous in Venice but boy. It tastes like Lemon Dish soap. Haha. You have to try it.
Racism ruined my meal. After I finished, the waiter asked me where I was from. I answered China, and he started speaking some random Chinese. That's fine. Then he said he liked Chinese. I thought he meant Chinese language or culture, but he followed up with "because Chinese girls have small p*ssy." Yes. He said that. He liked "Chinese" because Chinese girls had "small p*ssy." The other waiter who was standing by another table turned around and laughed. I was speechless. I was utterly appalled and disgusted by this vulgar, salacious and racist comment. I suggest all people stay away from this establishment.
We found this place via Yelp while wandering around the San Marco Square area. We wanted some good seafood. To be honest the reason I am only giving 3 stars is because I am questioning how fresh everything was. The wine list was good, we shared a bottle of local white. It was delish! To start, my husband and I shared the Mosaic carpaccio. IMO when raw seafood is being served it should ALWAYS be chilled, not room temperature, not slightly warm. You could tell when it was served it had sat out for a bit before making to the table. It tasted fine... just not great. For our second course we had Spaghetti alle vongole and it was delicious. Very tasty. Second best I had the entire time in Italy and we had that as our pasta course at every meal! Our entrees came out and my husband had Sea bass which he liked well enough. I ordered the mixed fried fish plate Adriatic style and it just honestly hit my nose wrong. The smell made me nauseous. It didnt smell bad exactly, I just thought maybe it was me. I didnt eat beyond the first bite. My guess is there may have been a problem as my husband who did eat probably 1/4 of my plate coincidentally had stomach problems though the night. The location was a bit off the beaten path and it was nice sitting outside in the courtyard, so loved the feel of the outside!

Our server Luca was amazing; spoke perfect english, super patient, and had great conversations with us. The food was supurb (a tad pricey but worth) we had the sausage pizza, spagetti, and sea bass eith roasted potatoes. The quality is supurb, it is quiet with hardly any tourists around (i knoe the irony dont call me out). It is semi hidden but its worth looking for it. Food was great, the adults and picky kids all enjoyed their meals. Hard to find but we'll worth the adventure to get there. We ate in a lovely courtyard, nice and quiet with just minimal foot traffic. read more

Off the beaten path, but steps from St. Mark's Square. Was our best meal in Venice. Be sure to check the Chef's specials toward the end of the menu. Among my pictures is the Ravioli de pesce. Absolutely to die for! read more

Great food, great service. Place is a little hard to find, but was well worth it. We had the seafood salad (ensalata fruti di mare) and their special seafood plate, both were fantastic. Wasnt your typical rude, distant service you get at the more touristy places, like the ones by the water. We actually felt very welcome and didn't feel it taste touristy. Highly recommend it! read more

This is my favorite place. I had a very romantic dinner with love. The seating outside was so authentic. People walked by but it's off the beaten path so it wasn't too busy. Locals looked on from the apartments above the restaurant which added to the authenticity. Service was great. We even made a friend in our server Marro. Awesome guy that showed us a great local spot to finish our evening. The food was fantastic and not too expensive. They say when in Venice you have to have the seafood risotto so we did. Best seafood risotto we both have ever had. If you want a authentic dinner with great service that will not break the bank this is the place. I can't wait to visit again. read more

With 360+ positive reviews on Trip Advisor and ranked #1 out of 750+ eateries in Venice at the time by the same (sorry Yelp! :) ) we just HAD to try Osteria Ae Sconte and see what this seafood restaurant had to offer. Boy were they right! This experience became one of the extreme "positives" in our 4-day stay in Venice! Let me first put it this way. I spent nearly 25 years living next to the Pacific Ocean and fell in love with her fresh bounty. For all those years of gastronomic delight, I do consider myself an affectionado of nearly all seafood - cooked or raw, open ocean or reef. I could eat fish everyday! So when in Rome errrr... Venice, one MUST do as the Venetians do - gastronomically, at least: enjoy the bounty of the Mediterranean Sea, Venetian-style! So that's what we did here at Osteria ae Sconte, and done so beautifully by the same! It was an early, humid evening and we were seated quickly, running into only one other set of patrons - a family from Colorado who seemed quite happy about the meal they just ate and were quick to give us their recommendations off the menu. The service throughout the meal was friendly and remained quite patient despite our questions and consultations. The squid ink pasta - the consummate Venetian dish - was cooked to perfection! The pasta and squid ink comes to you all wrapped up in warmth and as black as ink spilled from your grandma's fountain pen. That ever-so-slight pungent smell was cut by heavenly soft, white cubes of squid. I've never had such large, succulent chunks of squid before - and cooked so moist and tender - this place absolutely had to doing it right! It was to die for - something we both still think about and crave a year later! For our secondi, we shared the mixed grilled fish platter for two - once again in the spirit of experiencing the bounty of the Adriatic. It was quite a collection of various fish filets and shellfish grilled tenderly and moist. Bellissimo! I will admit, however, that at the time we didn't understand why the fresh salad accompaniment was so bitter and could not finish it. Later would we realize that it was an arrugula salad - something the mainland area outside of Venice is well-known for (except to us at the time! LOL). In hindsight... errrr hindtaste, it all makes sense now and I will better receive the bitterness against the stronger fish flavors of the grilled seafood. We topped off this 90 minute gastronomic orgy with dessert, and the lemon apperatif - a local favorite - was offered on the house. The decor was pleasant. It always amazes me what Europeans can do with such old structures with spaces that existed hundreds of years prior to when your grandparents were in diapers. Here they decorated the walls with gigantic black & white photographs of local youth near Venetian backdrops (perhaps the owners' own daughter and friends?). Air conditioning was cold and ever so welcome on this humid Italian summer day. Finding it. OMG. We walked at least 30 minutes in circles during which I'm sure we never strayed beyond 0.25-mile from it. All I can say is it's not far from the south/east end of the Rialto Bridge, parallel to but not directly on Salita San Lio. Go while plenty of sunlight is out so you can navigate (your way out) of the small passages you may find yourself corraled into. It's remarkably not far from the major thoroughfares - at a small piazza hidden around a corner or through a short tunnel depending which direction you approach from. We literally stumbled on it exactly as we made the decision to give up looking! Now the price? Eh... that one stung a little, especially since the USD was particularly weak against the Euro during our trip. But as our gastronomic experience here became one of the take-home highlights of our trip, I can wholeheartedly say it was truly worth it! We experienced several restaurants during our stay in Venice and this place was far superior to them all. For the freshest local seafood cooked perfectly, good service, and local flavor, if you could experience Venetian seafood on only one night, Osteria ae Sconte would be the place to go! I hope this place is still there and just as epic on our next visit to Venezia! read more

Gnocchi was great small soft pieces, was very very slightly salty but still great. Whole plate of creamy cheese could be a little overwhelming but nevertheless tasty. Seafood spaghetti was good, but other seafood dishes had more seafood. Waiters were friendly and restaurant setting was fine, good meal w fine ambiance. read more
Yelp in Italy just isn't where Tripadvisor is. So, I found this place via Trip Avisor where it has much better reviews then Yelp. The food was good.... It isn't exactly easy to find.... but once you do, Americans will be greeted with English speaking waiters and menus.... Always nice. We opted for outdoor seating. It was a great meal and I would strongly suggest making the short walk here instead of hitting one of the tourist traps that are much easier to find! read more
We loved our meal so much on a Saturday night that we came back for our last meal in Venice on a Sunday night. Two dishes got us- the gnocchi with cheese sauce and walnuts, and the seafood risotto (ordered for min 2 people). The gnocchi was soft and pillowy and the cheese sauce was really good. It reminded me of a good, saucy mac and cheese. The risotto was really good too, super flavorful, just soft rice, not too thick or liquidy. I liked how it was not too salty. And they were generous with the seafood so each bite had a piece of shrimp, mussel, or clam in it. The seafood linguine was just OK...the noodles weren't particularly fresh or al dente, although there's a lot of seafood served with it. The spaghetti with crabmeat was the same too, not-so-great noodles, and just light crab meat. I orderd the sea brim and did not like my dish. The sea brim was not flavorful at all, it was too flakey and tasted watery/fishy, l and I had to force myself to eat the last few bites. If I do order fish here, I would go with the sea bass. We did order the spaghetti bolognese which is not on the menu. The bolognese sauce was really good, but the spaghetti again was not very good. Perhaps with a rigatoni it would be better. The service is great here, they give you bread right away and champagne for free. They also gave us limoncello at the end to end the meal. read more
This place was great! I ordered the fried seafood platter (I had to get help from the waiter to find it in the menu) and the calamari and shrimp were perfectly seasoned!! The anchovies were a little weird for me. My sister got the squid ink pasta. Both dishes were served in great portions. Very good, lightly seasoned pasta. Then ordered the tiramisu. It's different than American tiramisu (or at least the ones I've tried). Lighter and maybe less cake and more emphasis on the mousse. Yum I asked about the limoncello and our waiter says it's free for special people. I was a little peeved but then he came back with 2 shot glasses for us filled with the yummy liquor. 51€ for the both of us (including the water jug). Would definitely come again read more

My husband and I had dinner here to celebrate our second anniversary while visiting Venice. This is, hands down, the best meal I have ever had. We were treated to complimentary Prosecco while we waited less than 10 minutes for a table (we didn't have reservations). We ordered the seafood salad for an appetizer and devoured the octopus, squid, prawns, calamari, sardines, crab, and clams. We both had the seafood linguini for dinner and it was absolutely divine. They don't sell wine by the glass but they do sell mini-bottles which was perfect for us. We ended our meal with tiramisu (heavenly) and complimentary limoncello. All of the servers were professional and attentive and the outdoor seating is in a beautiful courtyard complete with a wall of honeysuckle. Our meal here was a magical experience. read more

The best seafood pasta I had in this Italy trip. LOTS of seafood inside, and made of real tomatoes. The pasta is also in amazing flavor of both seafood and tomato. Definitely worth the price!(Around 20 Euros) The environment and service is also great. read more

The food was fresh, cooked and presented with care! Caprese salad: tomato was fresh, still crunchy and juicy. Mozzarella cheese was moist and of the right texture and taste throughout. I don't like arugula but it went pretty well with the salad. The olive was more of a decoration then something edible as it was really bitter for me. Sea bass: the flavor of the sea was still retained in the meat of the fish, some might say this might be too fishy. The texture was semifirm, but once in your mouth, it will be barely noticeable to the bite. The sauce was light tasting, and had more of the fish flavor as it was cooked with the fish. Eat with the potatoes to balance out the taste. I wouldn't recommend this dish if you can't stand fishy taste. Grilled scampi: melt-in-your-mouth! Soft and moist as if they just caught the scampi. The portion was really small, but the combination of natural taste and texture was to-die-for. Tiramisu: I'd eaten tiramisu almost everyday for the last two weeks at different locations in Italy and this was ans still is the best I had in Italy! So much better than Bar Pompi in Rome. The cake is moist, but not soaking wet, and flavorful with reminiscent of coffee. The mascapone cream was mildly sweet, but light. The proportion of the cream to cake was about 60:40, which is what I prefer. Other places drown their tiramisu with overpowering sweetness from their cream and soaked their cake too long in coffe and liqueur, which would contribute to a soaking wet cake (example: Bar Pompi). The price is reasonable (about €80 for the meal above) for what you get, definitely worth it if you're in the area. Also, so much better than the highly overated Antiche Carampane in every aspect (food, atmosphere, cost, service, etc.) read more

Started with the gnocchi with walnut and it was probably the highlight of the meal. I got the scampi and roasted potatoes both really flavorful. My husband got one of the pizzas and he said it was good as well. Shared a tiramisu can never go wrong with that. Only gave a 4 star because it's was pretty pricey for what you get, left not hungry but not full either. read more
