We had a really good meal here on a Saturday night. We had reservations for 7:30 and our table was ready when we arrived. We ordered a bottle of Tempranillo and a caprese salad. The wine was excellent and the salad good. They also brought our bread and breadsticks. The breadsticks were excellent. My wife who does not eat bread loved them. Right before they brought the entrées they bring fried pizza dough with a balsamic dipping sauce. Delicious! I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and my wife the eggplant parmigiana. Both were very good. We decided to finish the meal with tiramisu. Our waiter Victor was great and provided friendly service.

    Wine selection is awesome!

Looking for a different restaurant that apparently vanished and thank goodness! Piccoli is our new favorite restaurant!! Just walking in it has a great vibe. Happy, genuinely friendly and well informed staff. Great atmosphere and decor. We were there rather early and it was a bonus to see how well the staff get along and work together. Our server, Claudio brought us our drinks right away and was happy to recommend and help us choose our dinner. As he recommended the risotto, the chef was walking by and with a big beautiful grin heartily agreed that the risotto for me and the soufflé for my husband were great choices! The anticipation and their eagerness to please and show off their dishes made for an extra special meal out. Starters were Tuna Tartar served with assorted breads and paired with a delicious zucchini sauce. A+ Service A+ Atmosphere A+ Food! The desserts were a whole new adventure in gourmet tastes. I ordered the lemon tart Gelato and Hubby ordered a chocolate tart served with a scoop of rich dark chocolate gelato . All in all- if you are ever in Merida, the food scene is unparalleled - and Piccolo is on the list of must go to eateries!

This used to be our favorite place to go while in Merida. The place looks good, and the food is delicious. Service is good. They bring you some type of fried bread with tomato sauce that is delicious. We ordered the bruschetta and their carpaccio. Everything was delicious and don't forget profiteroles for dessert. We went there yesterday and left so disappointed. First the place was almost empty and we asked for a large table and they wanted to squeeze 5 people into a 4 seat table. I had to ask twice to get me a 6 seat table. Really? Then they changed the sauce for their coccoli. Used to be this delicious marinara type sauce and now is a balsamic type that we didn't care for. The risotto and the ravioli were just okay. We are not sure if the Chef was changed or something but we used to LOvE this place but not anymore.

From Chicago, first time at Oliva today. Here are my thoughts:…read more -We had a bigger party of 8 people and made reservations ahead of time. They gave us a perfect private room! -We ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer, and it was excellent! The tomatoes were really, really good. -I got the cacio y pepe for my entree and it was easily the best I've ever had outside of Italy : ) Very tender pasta, in a peppery white sauce. -I tried the ravioli and it was delicious, nice spices and sauce. -Service was excellent! This place is on the fancier side. We got in with shorts, but more formal waiters, etc. -If I could only go back to one restaurant in Merida, this would be it. Highly recommended!

GREAT PLACE, RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED - We've been here three times, twice inside and once outside…read more Inside it is very nice, attentive staff, and charming. Outside it was still pleasant but you sit on plastic chairs and most the diners outside, like us, waited about 30 minutes at our tables until our order was taken. Definitely the walk ons who eat outside seem to have less attention granted to them, but to sit inside you need a reservation when it is busy, so reservations are recommended. All that said once we placed our order the food was promptly served on all occassions. It was always rich and delicious, with all ingredients tasting super fresh. The flavors were bold but not overpowering, and the portion sizes were modest but fair. The prices were a bit high relative to other places you could find around here but generally speaking you pay for quality at this place. It's an excellent option for some homemade pasta and fantastic salads, but that also makes it super popular, so just be patient as you may need to wait at times. Still the wait is worth it, give it a chance you won't be disappointed. Happy eating! -John Seeto

Ordered a mango and strawberry daiquiri and they were not blended. Rim was something strange. Not salt, sugar nor tajin. Service was very slow. The guy was nice but would rather chat with his coworkers. Ordered an avocado pizza, and it tasted like something from the school cafeteria. Chaya crepes were soggy, drowned in sauce to the point where it nauseated me. God help anyone who comes here looking for a fulfilling meal. Included gratuity into the check, but told me I didn't have to pay it if I didn't receive good service. What a weird spot to be put in!?

There's a great variety of drinks--nice traditional mezcalitas, chaya cocktails (with xtabentun), clericot, beer, wine, you name it. The last year or so they've had, in my opinion, a very fine singer/guitarist; she's there, I believe, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and maybe Saturdays. Music starts at 8:30 (it used to start at 8:00, and I wish it still did or at 7:30) -- no cover. (That's not to say that on the other nights you won't hear good music; over the years there have been many fine trova singers.) All in the atrium of an historic building: in our opinion, a special if not unique place in Merida.
