This is a nice restaurant that is only a few blocks away from the piazza del popolo. It has beautiful tables outside and I really thought it had a pleasant vibe. There were a handful of servers who were very attentive and it's some of the better service we've had in Rome. For dinner I got the risotto. It was good, but I was really hoping for a little bit better than what we got. The risotto was a bit more expensive than other places we've been and there was less of it. The quality was not wildly better than other places to account for the difference. If the ingredient quality was much better I did not notice it. It's actually my second favorite risotto out of the two I've tried this week. Not saying it's my least favorite (although, yes, that's what I'm saying) I'm just saying I liked the one other plate of risotto I've gotten better than this one. read more

Francesco was amazing waiter. We started with caprese salad from antipasti menu. We went there based on the recommendation of one of the hotel front staff. My husband is always skeptical of that thinking there is a kick-back for someone. If there was any such deal, it made no difference in how delicious the food was! Sat outside, perfect weather. Delicious restaurant in Rome. We sat outside- which was a little noisy with the traffic. I would recommend making a reservation and sitting inside like the locals do. Service was fantastic. Attentive and friendly. They work hard! Food was delicious. Patas were amazing. The crème brûlée is a must!! Enjoy some limoncello after your meal. If you do sit outside, make sure you go inside and check out the candle that's in the Guinness book of world records. read more

I found Osteria St. Ana through yelp. I was trying to find a place for dinner, near our hotel at the Le Meridien Visconti Rome. The hotel concierge also recommended this restaurant, and helped us make reservations. We were greeted and seated right away at their outdoor dining area. Our server was very welcoming, friendly, and efficient. We tried: MUSSELS- so delicious BABY OCTOPUS- great flavors GNOCCHI- outstanding FETTUCCINE WITH PORCINI MUSHROOMS- fantastic CARBONARA- yes, yes, and yes TAGLIATELLE w/ MUSHROOMS & TRUFFLE- super tasty CREME BRULEE'- simple yet satisfying Overall, we had a great experience here. It's a beautiful dining experience in Rome, just a short walk from Hotel Dei Mellini. The Salad was spectacular, as was the pasta. 4 glasses of wine, the salad, and two pasta dishes ran us 74 Euro, It was well worth it. read more

Owner Roberto physically assaulted a woman in front of customers. If it is recommended to you by your hotel DO NOT GO. After waiting an hour to pay our bill my wife complained to owner Roberto Quagliarini. He gave her an attitude and she said she would be leaving them a bad review at which point he threatened her saying, and I quote: "If you were a man I would take you outside and punch you." Earlier we had nicely moved tables for them when a bigger group arrived early. He had told my wife we could have said "no" to moving (lol). We got a bad vibe from the place right when we arrived when none of the staff was ready or dressed for service (should have known then). I was in the bathroom when Roberto threatened my wife and I yelled at him when she told me what he said. He backed right down, then got 4 of his waiters to push me away from him as he threatened to call the police (what a joke after he threatened a woman). He wasn't so tough all of a sudden. The waitstaff proceeded to push me out of the restaurant, and when my wife tried to intervene Roberto grabbed both her arms and tried to push her into the street. This was in full view everyone sitting outside. She got away from him at which point Roberto ran back inside like a coward with a few of the waiters. It was laughable watching the staff gang up on the two of us after Roberto threatened a woman like a coward. They seemed to know the kind of person they're working for. Looking at older bad reviews this wasn't the first time they were a problem, just look at some of the owner responses and you see what you're dealing with. Wait till they try this when the numbers are even on both sides, guessing they'll be running away and hide like their boss did. This is absolutely the worst restaurant in Rome. We went through all of this for horrible food served by a horrible staff for what was nothing more than a tourist trap. The only reason we didn't file charges with police was because we don't live in Rome. But we do have evidence of everything that happened should we decide to file a lawsuit which we're still looking at doing. read more

We arrived without reservation, however the waiter was very polite and found us a table in few minutes. We sat outside since the weather was excellent. The ambiance was very pleasant, without noise coming from the street. The service was excellent, all very friendly, making their best to explain or translate the menu. My wife and I had as appetizers fried artichoke (delicious) and melted pecorino cheese with truffles to eat with freshly baked bread. She then ordered cod with Romano sauce and I ordered lasagna with white sauce, mushrooms and truffles, both of them very well made. As dessert, I had the semifredo Di Sarono and my wife Marron Glacé Gellato. All paired with a good Italian wine. Even better, the price was absolutely just for the quality of food offered. In summary, we had a wonderful dinner and we are looking forward to returning another day to try a different dish. read more

My first night in Italy with my mother and sister was topped off just perfectly with this stop for dinner. My sister was referred by her friend and from the service to the food, we were not disappointed at all!!! Our waiter Alex , was AMAZING!!! He was so honest in his wine and food recommendations and thoughts on what was on the menu; he kept us entertained and our bellies full for sure. For appetizers , we had thinly raw fish, calamari and mussels and for our entrees we ordered beef lasagna with mushrooms and truffle sauce, sea bass with potatoes and prawns on a bed of pasta with gelato drizzled in cognac for dessert. Everything was chef's kiss and we definitely recommend this restaurant ... 10/10!!! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. This is a very obvious tourist trap. Please do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money elsewhere. We dined here after a man from our hotel front desk recommended it. After reading several reviews, I also believe hotels and this place have a connection. The food is extremely overpriced, tasteless and the quality is subpar. Once it was time to pay, the waiter wrote "TIP" on the receipt to pressure us to pay more. It is well known that tipping culture is NOT the norm in Italy. This was the worst and most expensive meal we had during our week in Rome. This place gave me the impression that they want to take advantage of tourists who are unfamiliar with the area. read more

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and we were so pleased. It's located downstairs on a quiet street but full of warm, bubbling energy inside. Our server and host were so welcoming and we immediately knew we'd made the right choice. I ordered eggplant parmigiana for antipasto and the homemade gnocchi for my plate. It was perfectly, soft and melt in your mouth delicious. Ambiance is intimate and cozy with photographs mounted throughout the restaurant. The amatriciana was so amazing my boyfriend asked me to marry him! And 25 years later we still make it our place when we come to Rome! The lasagna with truffles is undeniably the best thing I've ever eaten in my life, and I am so happy that the owners and staff recognize us even if we are not locals! Buonissima!! read more

OMG - My son found this place when we first arrived in Rome. The service is amazing and the place is very picturesque. We stayed off with a Capri Salad which was amazing. For dinner I had the Carbonara! Very creamy and delicious. Can't say enough good things about the service!!! read more

We ate here on our first night in Rome after our concierge highly recommended it to us. We loved the ambiance and the lighting, not to mention the food was amazing. They even brought me gluten free bread, which might have been one of the best I've ever had! Red tuna carpaccio was incredibly fresh! They also had GF fettuccini for me and it was absolutely delicious. I got GF pasta with ragu and my husband got the white truffle lasagna. The service was wonderful and our server brought us mandarincello which was so good I would buy it in a store! Definitely stop by if you're in the area! read more

Hands down the best meal we have had in Rome!! This place was highly recommended from Ig and our hotel (le meridien) we had to try it. It was a short distance from our hotel (7 min walk over the bridge) and we found it with ease! The moment we walked up the waiter was alread engaging and super funny, we knew it would be a great time. We arrived 30 mins earlier than our original reservation but luckily they allowed us to sit inside. The waitress was amazing she was sweet and very attentive to our needs and everything we got she totally confirmed it was her favorite. Well they did not disappoint, in fact we ordered the carpaccio twice. We started with carpaccio, oxtail, squid. Amazing! Then for dinners we had carbonara, lasagna, beef filet, and sea bass. All were so delicious! We finished and savored every last bite. Our waitress was so sweet she suggested a bottle to save money and we appreciated her thoughtfulness. Our hotel recommended this place on our first night in Rome. We were immediately seated and had a really sweet waitress. We ordered the fried artichoke and the fried poached egg for our appetizers. The artichoke was tasteless, and the poached egg was too done (not runny). We then ordered the linguine with mushrooms and the bombolotti alla amatriciana. The first dish fishy and slimey for whatever reason. The second dish was salty and mediocre. We sent them both back, politely, and asked for the check. It was a big kerfuffle and the owner came to our table to disagree that the food was indeed good. (Basically, we didn't know what we were talking about). So, no, I don't recommend even though apparently they have some kickback situation with the hotel. read more

We found this restaurant on Yelp and the great reviews don't lie! We have been in Italy for almost two weeks and this has been the best meal we've had here. Even the bread was way better than all the other restaurants we've been to. We were actually surprised how dry and bland the read was at the restaurants in Italy! Hmm, might just be one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at...on any continent. The food was simply amazing. I had one of the best lamb chops I've ever had in my life, accompanied by the best potatoes I have ever eaten. Don't want lam? No problem! The seafood is equally as incredible as the lamb chop, with the cod making me jealous. Not only was the food stellar, but the service was the best of our European experience as well. We were there our first night and returned for our last. The staff was incredible, friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, especially the oxtail, carbonara, sea bass and fettuccine with beef ragu. The tiramisu and crème brûlée was the best I've personally ever had. We were there on my birthday and they made it very special. I truly appreciated their love for their restaurant and their passion for good food. Highly recommend. read more

Stars from the likes of Ralph Fiennes, David Hasselhoff, Mikhail Baryshnikov (pretty much the only ones we sort of recognized from the photos on the wall near our table ... lol) have dined at this restaurant and the food is AMAZING. We ordered the truffle lasagne and the black truffle tagliolini and savored every bite as if it were our last. We also ordered the creme brulee flambee and the chocolate & pear tarte and were definitely not disappointed. This was a great first meal in Rome and looking forward to coming back (and they are open late until midnight, kitchen until 23h!) If you are close to Piazza del Popolo or even Spanish steps (10 minutes walking at the most) you should try this restaurant. I wish this place was more popular on yelp because this is how I search for places myself and it deserves to be appreciated. Just a tip how to find this place because it maybe a bit tricky with the address: if you are on Piazza del Popolo, go towards Via di Ripetta and then once you hit it, make the first right turn on Via dell'oca, keep waiting on it and it will continue on Via della Penna, you will see the small entrance on your left hand side, a few steps down and you will have your Roman food experience. The service is amazing, our server Alessandro not only explained us the menu, but also gave us recommendations for some specials outside the menu. Carciofo alla giudia that became our favorite and a must order during the trip surprised me here. Have you even tried fried artichoke with ice cream? Neither have I before. But now you have all chances to do so and you will be impressed by this unusual combination. Lasagna in white truffle sauce is just something, do you know that feeling when the food is just melting in your mouth and leaves you in food coma? Here you go, small note - you need to like truffles to appreciate it in full. Trippa alla romana. Frankly speaking, if you don't know what trippa is, you will probably not guess that you are eating tripe. It's served just like pasta in tomato sauce, delicate and exquisite. The mixed seafood appetizer was very different in a good way, and tasteful. The raw oysters were good, however, it was quite pricey. The ox tail was so good, and very unique no matter in Italy or US, but it was a little salty to me. The lobster linguine was fantastic and delicious. The food is amazing and the staff is incredibly helpful. They speak great English ( I'm awful at Italian). The starters incorporate the in season vegetables which for us was artichoke. We had a bottle of Prosecco to start, and the fish, lamb and gnocchi pasta was outstanding. The neatest part was at 6 the owner setup a table in the main area and the staff ate together (chefs, busboys, waiters and the owner) I can't capture how moving this was. I asked the waiter and he said they did it every night. Get there early it gets busy quick. read more
