We were walking by and decided to try this restaurant because it is away from the crown and Main Street. We were seated in the garden which is very pretty and romantic. They have a fountain in the garden with real trees and plants. The food is amazingly good! We are a family with lactose intolerance and the waiter was very helpful in guiding us what to get. The waiter suggested white pasta with olive oil for him and he loves it! I had the calamari and prawns. And my husband had puttanesca with tuna. All are delicious! This was one of the first meals on our trip and we tried some delicious traditional Roman dishes! We got the cacio e pepe (something that had been on my bucketlist), the oxtail gnocchi, boiled artichoke, and roast beef with potatoes. The oxtail gnocchi was my personal favorite. We asked for advice from the locals and happily ended up here. It is our last night and we are still sitting here but I had to give the review while we wait for dessert. The service was amazing, they were very helpful on recommendations on food and drinks. We had a party of 8 and everyone absolutely loved their meals. The ambiance was very authentic small town Italia. We sat in the garden. We are now waiting for dessert so I will pause the review to include it. We have been traveling for the last 20 days and this by far was our best meal. Sorry I forgot to take pics of everything. I honestly wasn't expecting the meal to be this amazing. We were recommended by our hotel concierge to eat here, they said that this place serves the best carbonara ever. My husband was eager to try it so we went right ahead. The restaurant was cute and the same as all of the other restaurants, but this one served some unique dishes that most others don't. If I were you, I would look at the menu closely to really see what they have to offer. We however had a very late lunch so we had a little dinner. We ordered bruschetta, their meatballs, and carbonera. The waiters there would take forever to come back, you'd have to literally go up to them to ask for your change back so you could get out of there, but they were nice. I would say there are a lot better restaurants to try than this one because when we tried their carbonera, there really wasn't anything special about it. Ah, Otello! This became my go-to spot during a weeklong stay in Rome. I came here 3 TIMES, and made sure their magical linguine con vongole and a chilled glass of Puglia rosé was my final dinner in the Eternal City. As a solo diner I discovered it's not easy to feel at home eating out in Rome, but Otello is just off the beaten path enough to feel like a little secret. Enjoying a slow, 3 course meal in the relaxed and charming alley on a warm summer night was the perfect way to end a busy day wending around ancient cobblestones and evading the besotted tourist shopping hordes. But back to that linguine. I ate pasta everyday all over for a week, all the Roman staples - carbonara, amatriciana, cacio e pepe - but this was my hands down favorite in the city. There was some sorcery in the anchovy and lemon in the light saucy coating, and the clams were bright and briny. We absolutely loved the Spanish Steps, and we stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch. There was no line, so we were seated right away. We got the Carbonara and the Amatriciana and the service was fast and efficient. I ordered the Amatriciana, and I really appreciated the sauce. I love tomato based sauces in Italy, because they taste SO simple, but it's so good because the ingredients are so fresh. The little salted pork bits on top really tie the whole dish together because it gives it a nice crunch and a nice salty taste/after bite from the pasta. My fiance loved the Carbonara, because the sauce was creamy, and peppery. The pastas were solid and the flavors were really on point. They really make the classics really well here. Visited here after a morning full of shopping near the Spanish Steps. A little off the beaten path from Via dei Condotti (main shopping street) but worth the walk. Restaurant was a little empty for 1PM but it was also a Monday. Service was quick and great, has in-house free wifi. Waiter took our orders and our pastas came about 15-20 minutes later. I scarfed down the carbonara in 2 minutes and "helped" out my partner with her rigatoni. Great food, very affordable pricing. read more

My local friend recommended this place. The location of this place is set back a little. We started with the fried zucchini flowers and the artichoke. Our waiter warned that the artichoke may be hard. We ordered it anyway and I loved it. The zucchini flowers were freshly made and tasted so good I made them upon returning back to the US! All three of us got the cacio and pepe and it was good. I had a spritz and would get that again too. Gave us prosecco and it was also worth ordering. GLUTEN FREE DELICIOUSNESS!!! I have celiac and it is very challenging to find gf food, let alone GREAT gf food when traveling. Discovered Otello allá Concordia today while roaming in Roma. What a FANTASTIC surprise! This is one of the most delicious and memorable meals I have had while visiting Italy and this is our 6th trip to Rome alone. My husband absolutely loved everything as well and he is a chef. The staff was exceptionally attentive and made sure we were taken care of. They even surprised me with a gf treat for dessert. Maybe we're just tired of Italian food after 10 days of traveling Italy but this by far our most disappointing meal so far. My wife had the ravioli with cheese and mushrooms and I had the spaghetti Otello. Figured we'd stick to some basic things after eating "adventurously" for two weeks. The ravioli had a strange smoke flavor and the mushrooms were so mushy my wife thought they were gravy. My spaghetti had a red sauce that reminded me of spaghetti-o's from a can. The wait staff was friendly and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, but I couldn't recommend the food. There are better options nearby. read more

Came here upon recommendation from Yelp Elite collections. The restaurant is cute inside, and our friendly server sat us quickly! Service was attentive, and our server helped us pick out a lovely Valpolicella. We ordered a daily special of fresh fava beans and pecorino, which were refreshing. Then we split an Amatriciana and pollo Romana, but of which were good. Overall, solid food in a pretty touristy area, not necessarily worth going out of your way for it, especially since it's on the more expensive side. read more

The Carciofi all Romana is not to be missed. I enjoyed the pasta carbonera and the vela saltimboca..both awesome. There is a garden seating area that is like a greenhouse which looked fun, too. I've been here twice, once in 2013 and once in 2016. My boyfriend visited Rome with his family for a week in middle school, and a local private tour guide recommended this restaurant. He remembered a lamb stew that he always raves about. The first time we went back it was still on the menu, but they had just ran out. There was also a small issue with my entree, so they brought us a free appetizer for the trouble. The second time we went back it was not on the menu, but we were very happy with our meals. We called ahead for reservations, and so happy we did, as they only had one table left. We sat in the patio section with the fountain, and it was so comfortable and peaceful, I did not want to leave- I wish I had taken more photos! Visited here with our family of 5 after my daughter found it on Yelp. It's on a side street just a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps and away from the tourist traps. When we entered Sergio our waiter immediately brought my wife and I a complimentary glass of prosecco. The place is a vintage italian family style restaurant. It's cute and homey. Their lasagna is the best I've ever had anywhere. We also tried the truffle pasta and the bucatini. Everything was absolutely outstanding. This place seems way over rated. All of our food and appetizers were tabled at the same time and the tables are small. The dishes are average and the prices are above average, nothing we had was well developed palate-wise - kind of plain, and basic. For a cheaper price it would be a 3 star restaurant but they lose one in my opinion for overcharging. Good fries though. read more

This is the first review I've written, which speak volumes about the food and experience. The service was incredible and friendly and fast, and the food? We've been here on business all week and have had mostly sub-par food experiences in Rome. We spent an hour on Yelp making sure our last night were different than the other nights. We found Otello and though it only had 7 ratings, they were all 5 stars. I can attest to this. The food was the best I've had in months. The last thing I'll say is that this place has been open since the 60's. There's a good reason for that. The two sons now run the place will ensure it will be around for a good long time. Excellent little trattoria churning out one delicious Roman specially after another-- it's literally steps away from the Spanish Steps, tucked away in a cobblestone alley (is there any other kind of alley in Europe:-)? For a late night dinner at 10:pm, we were greeted very warmly outside and led to our reserved little table, and shown an alternate table as well. We settled in fried anchovies, lamb chops with sautéed spicy chicories and spaghetti carbonara, as well as tiramisu. The anchovies were the ultimate: fried crispy and lightly battered with a flavor tinged with fresh fennel and a bit of parsley flecks. A huge portion, we polished off most of it, addictive and good, the healthy version of French fries. The lamb chops were up next: on the bone and full of fatty goodness, done well and seasoned simply with olive oil and rosemary. The chicories were one of the best greens I've ever put in my mouth:simple but singing fresh, vibrantly green with a bit of bitterness and cooked in EVO with salt. So so so good made even better with a sprinkle of lemon. Then comes the carbonara. BE. Still. My. Thumping. Heart. Crazy good, this dish--decadent and rich, oozing flavor it's cheesy but not oily and is creamy of texture with zero actual cream. The Romano is sharp and pungent, very very good quality, mixed with egg yolk for color and flavor...I could taste the fresh cracked pepper, giving it just the perfect amount of kick. Wow wow wow--here's the funny part: though I wanted to finish it, (and trust me, it wouldn't have been hard), I was so sad at the prospect of never getting to eat this exact dish again, I stopped myself half way through, and got the rest packed to go--this is how badly I wanted leftovers! I know I'm a freak. The prices were completely reasonable and in point, especially for the quality and quantity. The service was remarkable: everyone from the servers to busboys to host were friendly and guiding and helpful, joking around and extending themselves beyond what they needed to--they were not phoning it in. Our water was concerned when they brought the spaghetti over to our table shortly after the lamb chops. He was so genuinely contrite and concerned, so apologetic, as if it was his fault and he was ready and willing to assume responsibility ... we assured him that it was no big deal and the food was fantastic. Did I mention the tiramisu? Very homey, served in a glass bowl, layered with the traditional mascarpone, ladyfingers, soaked in rum--it was perfection--not too sweet nor unbearably boozy, the perfect ratio of ingredients and odd as it might seem, at the end of the meal when we were so stuffed, it was also the perfect Goldilocks portion--not too big where we weighed overate it or felt obligated to take it home, and not too small, where you wanted more. We stumbled out at midnight, sleepy and yet wondering how after a meal like that,,were we ever gonna fall asleep. We decided to come here while walking back from Castel Sant'Angelo and looking through Yelp. We actually had a hard time finding the place since it's down through some door/driveway. When we did see it, we thought it was closed since the restaurant looked empty from the end of the driveway. But fortunately for us, they were open and all the customer were seated in the outside garden area off to the side. We ordered bruschetta, rigatoni, veal cutlet, artichoke, and tiramisu. All the food was good but nothing was over-the-top memorable. A good solid place for dinner. read more

I loved this place. It takes a bit of hunting to find the place, as you have to walk between two stores and into a courtyard to find it, but once you are there you will be very pleased. We were given a white wine spritzer as soon as we sat down, which was lovely... so lovely, in fact, that we continued drinking it throughout the meal. We were there for lunch and most of the restaurant was empty of tourists (there are two restaurants on the same street with hosts standing outside trying to lure you in... but THIS is the place you want to go! The pasta is all homemade, and the portions are reasonable. Not large, but very adequate. They also gave us a nice plate of lemon hazelnut biscotti at the end of the meal, gratis. I forgot what we ate, but we all had some sort of pasta dish, which was served al dente. The salads are also very nice. If you want to get away from the tourist traps, and you are near the Spanish Steps, this is where you want to go. You will not be disappointed! Note: There was no air conditioning inside. There is lovely outdoor seating, under vines. A really great place! This is a location that seems they will let you sit there and linger as long as you want.... which I love. Brava Otello! read more

My family and I went here because we were recommended this restaurant by a local. This place is slightly hard to find as it is not exactly on the main street, look for a small side street and you will find it. The bruschetta was delicious and I would recommend (if you're from America, of course as expected it was much better than the one you get there). I ordered the fettuccine bolognese, you could tell the pasta was homemade (certainly delicious) although there was too much sauce and not enough pasta. But the downside of this place is the lacking service of the waitstaff and the time it took to get our food was quite lengthy which made it slightly cold. Not bad if you're by the place but don't go out of your way to try this restaurant! read more
