Loaded with refreshing cucumber flavor, a Tajin rim is a must to get the best punch from this libation. It was recently suggested that I write more about my good experiences than the bad ones. So this is fresh off of the stack of 4+ star recent experiences. Otro (the other other white meat) is an excellent experience all-around when it is not that busy. It has a great view of downtown and/or the riverwalk depending on where you are looking. It is an open air bar (not on the roof roof since the tower is 18+ stories, but on a lower roof patio-style) so you are subject to the elements. I was very cold so the boys behind the bar smartly lit the heat lamp things out on the patio to warm things back above freezing so I could feel my hands again. The menu is simple but solid to get some food in you. The torta chips are the salty, brilliant kind with a nice undercarriage and crisp to them. They are substantial chips, not like the ones from the supermarché that will crumble into dust like Thanos snapped his fingers every time you even look at the torta chips. The guacamole is even better - it is not spicy! And they use real avocados, not the chemical aftertaste you get from some sham Tex-Mex joints. I had a detailed discussion with the bartender that I did not want this if it was spicy, and he assured me it was not spicy even though he understood that people like me think toothpaste is spicy. He was correct about the lack of spice. It was smooth and creamy, with no spice from the kitchen for this beautiful porcelain doll. The only oddity is that they did not have draft beer. You could get a can that you had to drink out of the can, no pint glass on the side even. They seemed much more focused on mixed liquor drinks. I don't drink liquor. If you also do not drink liquor then most of the bar is not going to apply to you if you are in the beer or wine mode. It gets loud on the patio with only a few people. I was just trying to warm up with the heat lamps and my chips and guac, and a few tables of bros either pre-gaming or post-gaming quickly makes it feel less luxurious with the ambient sounds of the riverwalk and more like the sports bar section at Bennigans 25 years ago. Great service, especially with the heat lamps. Excellent chips and guac for a mild/no spice option. Gets very loud with only a small number of people, so not as peaceful as one would hope. It does not have the historic import that the Esquire has next door. But the fried pickles at the Esquire squared up with chips and guac at Otro? Now that is a difficult decision to make and with the economy in shambles we surely can't do both, and sorry for calling you Shirley. I am a repeat visitor, so nothing has scared me off yet before/after Dave & Busters (regardless of weather) or on the way back to the Pearl if the weather is suitable for walkin'. It's a nice place to have a drink before dinner but not a place I'd go out of my way to go back to. read more

After seeing cute instagram pictures of the grinch decor, we decided to come check it out and I couldn't believe we hadn't been here before. For starters, the view itself! You see the riverwalk, Aztec theatre and all the twinkling lights at night. Off to a great start! We got two drinks, 1 holiday one that came in a light bulb and an off the menu watermelon margarita. Both drinks were very good and strong. A bit pricey but to be expected from the location. The bartenders were very welcoming and the place was a bit empty for a Friday night, but probably because it was chilly and windy. There are indoor seats which are available if it's too cold for you. How did I just found out about this beautiful bar in downton? Last week, the esposo and I planned a date night at Domingo. Our plan was to place our name on the waiting list and then head to the Esquire Tavern (next door) for a drink. Since it was our first time there we decided to check it out, and we were pleasantly surprise. The bar was small compared to other, but very busy with what looked like hotel guests. The staff of two was keeping things moving and making sure everyone was having a good time. I loved the view of the Aztec theatre from the bar, which makes for a great photo opp! We came with a large group and had to wait 15 mins for service but I think they were in a shift change or something. We ended up going to the bar individually and were promptly served. Drinks are $15 each which is a little on the higher end but creative. I do feel like the drinks aren't as strong or flavorful as they should be for the price but I love the atmosphere for a date night. This is (so far) my favorite bar in San Antonio. It's a rooftop at the Canopy Hotel. The staff is wonderful from the door person to the front desk staff to the bartenders. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. The lobby is beautifully decorated and displays beautiful local art that you can enjoy while you wait. When you take the elevator to the bar's floor, you can then walk into the bar area. it's very modern and beautifully adorned. There's a small indoor seating area where you can relax free of the elements. But then there is my favorite part. The open-air bar. The bar is the centerpiece of the space with the liquor bottles displayed beautifully. Surrounding the bar is ample bar and then patio seating. My favorite spot is overlooking the street below. The best part is that the air flows perfectly at night on their rooftop giving it a beautifully tropical feel. With a tasty passion fruit margarita in hand, it's practically paradise. The bartenders and servers give nothing short of 5-star service. Their hospitality is truly unmatched. I look forward to continuing to patronize this bar for years to come. read more

Do not come to this bar a few hours before closing time. The bartenders don't want to be there. Last call on a Sunday when they place is dead about 2 hours before. It was a nippy night and wish I had known they had throw blankets available but I didn't see those until I was leaving. They have the same drink menu as Domingo, in which nearly every drink is made with tequila or mezcal. I took off one star for lack of variety since I'm not really a fan of either of those liquors. Instead I ordered a non alcoholic drink since I still needed to drive home. I ordered the No Esta Borracho (Lemon Juice, Strawberry Basil Jarabe, water) and it was quite tasty. I would probably ordered it again but have them make non virgin by adding rum or vodka. This would be a great place to hang out during a river parade! read more

A nice chill hangout spot away from the crowd. Great drinks, tasty snacks, and snappy service. Food: We ordered the halibut ceviche, chicharrones, adobe chicken, and pork carnitas taco. All of them are extremely delicious in their own rite. As someone who doesn't like ceviche it was light, yet bright and citrusy. The homemade hot sauce that comes with the pork rinds is delightfully flavorful. The carnitas were crisp and tasty. My suggestion with the adobe chicken is: ask for it on a corn tortilla! It makes for a fantastic taco. Drinks: We ordered the No seas fresa, Amor prohibido, One flew south, The mule, and the Sana Sana. All of them are great, but the No seas fresa is exceptional. The Amor prohibido is great if you're a fan of bitter drinks with a sweet twist. Service: Fantastic service. We were seated immediately on the rooftop at at 6 on a Saturday. Horrible service. Arrived at the outside upstairs bar and there were about 7 seats available. All had dirty dishes in front of them. The bartender seemed drunk. (I'll explain why in a sec). Took us about 10-15 mins before he cleaned any area. While he did, he said that he didn't want to be there. He stayed in one corner of the bar with what appeared to be his friends. I couldn't get a second beer after taking 10 mins to get the first one. Just for perspective we were there for an hour and only got served one drink. He would make mixed drinks and then pour the excess into a glass that he drank the entire time. Good to know that someone could get a drink but probably why he forgot about the rest of the bar. We asked for our check and after over 20 mins just left a twenty dollar bill on the bar and walked away. Avoid this place like the plague! read more
