I love love love this bar! Every time I am at the market square I have to pass by to have a margarita and some nachos or chips and queso. I truly love the feel and the business of the place... it isn't a traditional Mexican restaurant but it does feel like so! They are always super busy which makes the service a bit slower... it is well worth it though This is always my go to place when I have people visiting out of town. The mariachi bands coming to your table is always so fun! It was quiet when we came in (2:45) but quickly filled up and got loud with people. We sat at the bar and our bartender/server was on point, given the number of drinks he had to keep making. He never slowed down. Our food was excellent and authentic. This is our new favorite place to grab an early bite. We will definitely be back, maybe even this trip. read more

So it's Fiesta time.... The great thing about it is we can always rely on The Marachi Bar. BUT- it's one drink per I.D. And you have to stand in line for a drink- which is ok. BUT where are the servers? Unless you only come to drink alcohol(which I don't), this place is not worth it. It's connected to a bakery and a restaurant. Salsa tasted like Pace. I was thinking about Chili's salsa over this one. Drinks came out super late. And all I ordered for a drink was water. The queso was alright. Chips were stale. Ordered a quesadilla. It said on the menu "comes with guacamole and pico de gallo." I asked for no guacamole, and the guy just said "It's on the side." I assumed he meant in a little bowl, so I was like okay? I wasn't gonna eat it regardless but he seemed adamant about us taking it, so I shrugged and was like okay. Food comes out and the guac is sitting on top of the quesadilla with no container and there was no pico. So I requested it, and when it came out, it had no flavor either. No salt, no lime, literally just tomato onion and cilantro. Really just onion and tomato, in that order. So the food was an utter disappointment. Friends ordered margaritas, one strawberry, on the rocks. My other friend asked for it the same way, except watermelon. The guy looked at him and said, "but it's not the same. It's watermelon." and so my friend looked at him and said okay. The server responded, "Frozen or on the rocks?" and my friend looked at him and said, "like hers, the same way...on the rocks." Mind you this was all in Spanish so he understood what my friend was saying but it seemed like the server didn't really know what he was doing. Then he looked at me and asked what I wanted and I said "Water." He looked at me and went, "Really? That's it?" Like dude, come on. The only thing saving this place is that it's connected to other places so they have decent foot traffic. read more

I dined at Mariachi Bar and ordered the fajitas for two, with both chicken and beef. The beef fajitas were tasty, but the chicken lacked flavor. The beans and rice were underwhelming, lacking in seasoning. The chips and salsa were just okay. The mango margarita was disappointing, as it lacked tequila. On the bright side, our server was excellent, providing thorough explanations of the menu options. The vibe was really cool and kudos to the Mariachi crew. This place is a very touristy spot and always crowded. I usually avoid going downtown but I was in that area with my aunt so she offered to treat me to lunch. So I said why not, they have a reputation for having great margaritas. We shared the Botana Platter, it's a large platter of appetizers including flautas and quesadillas. It was good, not great, but the ambience and margaritas make up for it. They have a great selection of mexican pastries. This place is located inside of Mi Tierra's Cafe smack in the middle of Market Square, a very popular tourist's destination spot. We wanted to eat at Mi Tierra's but the wait time was ridiculous. Mariachi Bar was also crowded but we managed to find a table for two. They only offer a very limited appetizer menu in this place, but our platter was satisfying and filling for the two of us. If you're ever in San Antonio, you should definitely check it out. It's kind of a throw back to old Mexico. read more

Crazy busy tourist time? On a Tuesday evening at 8pm, this place was packed. We initially wanted to go to La Margarita and Oyster but they were closed, maybe that's why this place got extra packed. We waited in line at the bakery to get our names down for a table of 3, at 8pm, hostess estimated 2.5 hour wait, like whoa...but I had a feeling it would be faster as it usually is and it was 8pm already and they close at 10pm? So we decided to have drinks at the bar. Andres was solo bartender from Columbia, cool guy, one man show at the bar and busted out hella suave cool drinks super fast. We were never empty for more than a minute. The bar has an abbreviated menu of small dishes, such as chips/salsa, guacamole, chili con queso, coctel de camarones, we got one of each. Started the nibbling and more of the drinking and chatting with Andres, and with some other tourists or locals...was having too much fun at the bar waiting for our table. Our table was ready at 9:15pm, about a little over an hour wait, it felt like 15 minutes cuz we were having an awesome time at the bar. Whenever is San Antonio, we stop in at least one night for drinks and music. Don't be intimidated, come in, there's lots of seating in the four areas. The mariachis arrive after 9pm, they are usually great. There is a wide range of tap beer, bottle/can, full bar, and their awesome Margaritas. They will not serve dinners, but there is a light appetizer menu. Chips are only served without asking if you order appetizers. read more

Out of sight tequila flights (sample 4 tequilas in one setting)!!! Always here my first night on a San Antonio trip. HUGE tequila selection and the bartenders really know their stuff. Tequila is not just lick, slam, suck anymore. Like wine, there are many variations on how it is fermented, creating different colors and flavor profiles. The craft has truly become an art form and if you want some "education" and a great tequila "experience" this is the place for you!!! Even if you don't generally like tequila, you WILL find something here to satiate your palate. Promise. The decor is really cool also. The grandiose bar appears to be made of hand-carved wood-I think there's a story behind it (i.e., history), but I can't really remember because I think it was told to me after all of the tequila. It is really opulent-just gorgeous! If you're hungry the app menu is not bad. And, as the name suggest there is a live Mariachi band on site. They offer happy hour 3:30-6:30 M-F. Considering the long lines and the amount of people that were there on a Saturday evening you would think it was delicious, but there was nothing great about this place accept the ambiance. This is certainly a big draw. Their bakery has a very long line for sure and admittedly everything in the case looks yummy for sure. We came for breakfast. A long wait- ok. I stopped by this place for a dear friends birthday. The customer service is phenomenal and the atmosphere is lively. I had never been here before and I was taken back by the number of people that were coming in and out. The bartender Gonzalo is a class act and he's fast. I had a a vampiro cocktail which included tequila, Chamoy as well as other things. The prices are a tad high but what would you expect from a restaurant located downtown. It was overall fairly nice. Always enjoy this bar. It was national margarita day and they were promoting margaritas with Patron for $10 each. I just had Juarez tequila for $5.50 a shot. We had the botana plate and bean and cheese nachos. Our waitress was attentive at first but kind of forgot us after more customers came in. The strawberry margarita looked delicious ! Awesome decor and music for the official bar outside of Mi Tierra restaurant. I elected to have my lunch here with some great "chiles rellenos" and a goblet of Dos XX draft. The framed Mariachi outfits along with the Mexican musical instruments hanging on the wall made me feel like I was in the middle of a movie. But the real attraction is the hand carved wooden bar that is just fantastic. I felt so at home that I had to order a shot of my favorite tequila, Don Julio Reposado. Salud amigos. read more

RUDE staff! Never have I been yelled at and belittled like I did at this bar. The bartender messed up my drink order & when I corrected him, he yelled at me from the bar and said I was wrong. Yes, me, the customer. When I asked for the manager, the manager was right there and allowed this horribly mannered bartender to speak to me in such a disrespectful way. They corrected my bill but I was truly baffled the manager never apologized or acknowledged how mistreated I had been. Never again. The decor is very beautiful and the workers are exceptionally kind and sweet. Our hostess was so very sweet. I come here every December but this year I noticed they changed the menu. They only have around 10 dishes and since 2018 the quality of the food has gone down. The food isn't worth the price. We waited 1.5 hours to be seated and I was just disappointed and regretful. Where do I start w/ this place? Ok Dec 2003 - I was proposed to here. I said no of course, but I still love this place! I drank so many glasses of wine and a few shots of Don Julio and I still said NO! lol. how you like them apples? But he lied and made it seem as if housekeeping stole it. Such a bad liar. anyway.. we came for NYE and we were DENIED! We were told we need a reservation, we were like, its a bar? Needless to say we ended up somewhere else spending over $450. (not me but the guy who stole bk his $100 ring) lol hehe you see why I said no? I came back to this awesoem place w/ my mom who took one look @ the $8.00 house marg. and said vamanos. she refused to let me pay that much for a drink a diabetic shouldnt have in the first place. I would recommend this bar to all my friends. You can think of any drink and they can make it for you. I ordered a Mojito and man was it the best I ever had! With plenty of seating and a huge bar with stools, this place can make a drunk out of anyone. I am curious about the statue of baby Jesus and Joseph right above the bar looking down at everyone though. I wasn't offended at all being Catholic but just curious at how that decision was made. Mariachi Bar was the #1 place to eat my father recommended when we said we were passing through San Antonio. Said it was a must go. We walked from the Alamo through the gorgeous river walk areas and finally to this restaurant where we proceeded too make their life hell with a screaming baby and a dog we needed accommodated and two sides of in-laws with different wants. They handled it like freaking champs. The balconies were already closed to restaurant diners just open to the bar but the managers kindly made an exception and let us bring our dog on the patio, then sent a lead waiter from the restaurant to take our orders and even Mariachis came over. The food was amazing, and as a SoCal girl I'm judgy on mexican food but I was incredibly pleased. Drinks were also spot on. I hope that anyone in town with some time passes by this place, but please be kinder to them than we were! Everything about this place deserves mY highest accolades and gratitude. read more
