Last night some people were out there at 9pm and the walls aren't very sound proof but they were quiet by 10 so whatever. Old motel makes for thin walls so bring ear plugs if your a light sleeper. The beautiful old Victorian style home exceeded expectations. Such character and charm with a modem updated bathroom ensuite. But the best part of the stay is breakfast. Samantha is a great chef. Whether the baked treats or farm fresh egg breakfasts she does not disappoint. I encourage you to ask to see the chickens. They even surprised our son with a chocolate treat for his birthday from a local chocolate shop. We highly recommend staying here for your trip to Cooperstown. If you like old charming homes and delicious breakfast this place is for you.

Although the room can sleep 6. There was nowhere for a third person to sit in the living room area or bigger bedroom. A small chair or ottoman would have been nice. End tables or small table that could be moved around also would have been nice. The bigger bedroom only had 1 night table, which was inconvenient as there was nowhere to place eyeglasses or phone anywhere but on the floor by the bed. There were spiders in the window. Even though they were sealed not something you want to see in one's bedroom There were no hooks or a clothing rod. Nowhere to hang clothes. Living Room setup was bad. The sofa should have been against the wall facing the tv so ones neck isn't strained trying to watch tv Personally, I feel it would have been better to move the sofa where the microwave and fridge are and those could have been moved under or to the side of the tv. Lastly, we were told that we're responsible to clean the room in an email they sent the day of our check out. We paid a lot of money for this room and there was no daily room service or cleanup. This should be included with the price instead of telling the guests to clean up before the "cleanup crew comes in.

There were a sufficient number of outlets for all the electronic charges, et cetera, the A/C worked fine, the TV had a digital cable package, it had a mini-fridge, and the bathroom was big enough to accommodate two people. The location was convenient - two blocks away from Main Street, so it was quiet, but only about an 8 minute walk into town, including the Hall of Fame (baseball, for all you coming to town for the opera). Three different churches are about five minutes away by walking, and there was sufficient parking at the Barnwell, even with a full house. Mark and Tara were outstanding hosts. Very personable, with good senses of humor. Attention to service was evident with all the "special" things done for breakfast for various guests (this reviewer included). Example: When the Keurig was broken a replacement was purchased within twelve hours. Yes, coffee is provided 24/7. Tara was an outstanding 'concierge' with recommendations of restaurants and the local area. Mark has an obvious passion for cooking, evidenced by the quality of the breakfasts (as well as the amount of food we had!). Anyone who will buy andouille sausage via mail order to ensure a good quality pays attention to the little details. Three days, three breakfasts, and nothing was repeated. Bottom Line: Whatever you expect out of a stay at a bed & breakfast will be exceeded at the Barnwell Inn.

I wasn't looking forward to the trip until I had my first contact, through Tara, with the Barnwell Inn. She and her husband Mark make you feel like welcome guests from your first inquiry about reservations until your final day at the Inn. They are a truly gracious couple! After we made reservations, Tara provided us with recommendations of things to do in the area as well as places for lunch and dinner. She also offered to make reservations for us. All of her suggestions were excellent. The Hall of Fame wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although I didn't feel the need to visit for a second day. Tara recommended the Fennimore Art Museum, and I spent an enjoyable morning exploring there. The Inn is in a lovely home in a quiet neighborhood, and is only a few blocks from the HOF, shops and restaurants. Cooperstown is a great town for walking. One of the best parts of staying at the Barnwell Inn is the breakfast. It is presented beautifully, and the food is out-of-this-world good! Our stay at the Barnwell Inn was one of the best lodging experiences we've ever had. I'm even looking forward to a return trip to Cooperstown! There appear to be other lovely inns and b&b's in Cooperstown, but there is no need to look beyond the Barnwell Inn.

As I searched through possibilities, the first-floor suite at The Phoenix Inn caught my eye and made my decision very easy. This Inn provides everything you need, but there are no frills - the decor and accommodations are pleasant and clean. The beds are very comfortable, there is plenty of hot water, and the wi-fi worked great. There were power strips throughout the room, so we could plug in and recharge our devices. Vicki made the beds and changed the towels daily. There are daily newspapers in the common room and there is always fresh coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available. The guest fridge in the Inn's kitchen is great for chilling the goodies you get at Ommegang Brewery or the local wineries. The food is excellent. Each morning Vicki provides a buffet featuring fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, cereal, freshly-baked goodies from the Inn's kitchen, and a hot dish. The stand-outs during our visit were the Blueberry French Toast and the Raspberry-Cream Cheese Coffeecake. Vicki was amenable to special requests and was happy whip up a few scrambled eggs for my diabetic husband and she made sure to have the appropriate foods for two pregnant vegan women who were guests during our time there. The Inn is within 10-15 minutes of most of Cooperstown's attractions, but located away from it all. We had no trouble sleeping. I'd return to The Phoenix Inn.

Wow!!! I can't put into words how amazing this place is. We've been to a lot of bed and breakfasts…read more quite a few that were :high end" but nothing compared to this magnificent place. There were a few rooms in the bed and breakfast itself but we chose to to stay in the cottage by the B&B "The Hog and Haus" which at one point in time housed pigs. This cottage is right next to a gorge that you can hear very clearly from inside the cottage and it lulls you to sleep. The cottage is rustic yet has all the amenities you could want (except television) there is a fully stocked fridge with soda, water, yogurt, a variety of fruit, milk, cheese (good brick cheese), creamer for coffee, and flavored seltzer water. There are also a variety of different kinds of crackers, cereals (the good kind), and baked goods that the host prepares daily. You also have access to the main house which is very tastefully decorated with antiques and a working pool table, and, get this.......an all you can eat ice cream sundae bar with all of the toppings and not one, not two, but over six flavors of ice cream!!!! There are also more snacks and beverages there. The cottage itself was more than worth the cost especially with the sound of the waterfalls in the gorge and the true cabin feel. If you plan to go to Cooperstown or even just want an awesome getaway (this place is well worth the trip from anywhere) come to Johnstown to stay in this charming historical place. Oh yeah..... there is a ton of history behind these walls including being part of the underground railroad. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Both of those factors were off-the-charts at the Inn by the Mill. My fiancee' (well, now fiancee'... :)) took me up here on a 2 night trip for our 4th anniversary together and right away, I fell in love with this place. The numerous fountains and gardens framing the mill house are hard not to be enchanted with, and this is just the beginning. Ron and Judith are gracious hosts, with Ron having some amazing stories to tell. People wrote in the guest book in the Mill House that Ron should write down his memoirs, and listening to him for ten minutes will make you agree. The main Grist Mill Emporium will amaze you, with its numerous games (billards table, checkers, puzzles, tv, etc.) and of course, its amazing ice cream parlor with complimentary ice cream, toppings, sodas and other beverages! Heading over to the Mill House (the main guest house), you will instantly feel the sense of whimsy that Judith's decorating is trying to achieve. The outside koi pond compliments the larger pond in the Grist Mill. The porch is wonderfully day-dream inducing, especially if a recent rain has fueled the waterfalls into a loud stream behind the mill. The plethora of treats in the house's kitchen is evident as soon as one walks in, with the small cooler of baked goods courtesy of gourmet cook Judith (their famous oreo truffle torte is NOT to be missed!!) There is a fully stocked fridge (eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc.) along with every kind of tea and coffee that you would need...the living room and lounge areas are just magical and really evoke a great feeling of warmth that is a great way to start your day on vacation. My guy and I stayed by the Hog-n-Haus, a beautiful, romantic sweet little cottage literally right at the cliff of the waterfalls. The next morning Melissa had prepared a delicious breakfast for us with fresh fruit cups, homemade scones, English muffins, jam, a homemade frittata, orange juice, tea and coffee!
