Best decision I've made in a long time. Literally 5 minutes from the complex. Everything about this place is a homerun. When you first walk in, there's a massive koi pond to great you. I loved seeing the koi as we came and gone everyday. Then Erin is there to great you. Actually, our first day, she greeted us as we pulled in. The nicest person we've met in a long time. Very helpful with information on the area and extremely accommodating. It's a bed and breakfast but unfortunately with nonstop baseball going on, we never had the opportunity to eat breakfast. We did explore the breakfast area one night. Very spacious and welcoming. Our room was great. King size bed with two sliding doors leading to a balcony over looking a brook and the woods. The location was convenient - two blocks away from Main Street, so it was quiet, but only about an 8 minute walk into town, including the Hall of Fame (baseball, for all you coming to town for the opera). Three different churches are about five minutes away by walking, and there was sufficient parking at the Barnwell, even with a full house. Mark and Tara were outstanding hosts. Very personable, with good senses of humor. Attention to service was evident with all the "special" things done for breakfast for various guests (this reviewer included). Example: When the Keurig was broken a replacement was purchased within twelve hours. Yes, coffee is provided 24/7. Tara was an outstanding 'concierge' with recommendations of restaurants and the local area. Mark has an obvious passion for cooking, evidenced by the quality of the breakfasts (as well as the amount of food we had!). Anyone who will buy andouille sausage via mail order to ensure a good quality pays attention to the little details. Three days, three breakfasts, and nothing was repeated. Bottom Line: Whatever you expect out of a stay at a bed & breakfast will be exceeded at the Barnwell Inn.

I wasn't looking forward to the trip until I had my first contact, through Tara, with the Barnwell Inn. She and her husband Mark make you feel like welcome guests from your first inquiry about reservations until your final day at the Inn. They are a truly gracious couple! After we made reservations, Tara provided us with recommendations of things to do in the area as well as places for lunch and dinner. She also offered to make reservations for us. All of her suggestions were excellent. The Hall of Fame wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although I didn't feel the need to visit for a second day. Tara recommended the Fennimore Art Museum, and I spent an enjoyable morning exploring there. The Inn is in a lovely home in a quiet neighborhood, and is only a few blocks from the HOF, shops and restaurants. Cooperstown is a great town for walking. One of the best parts of staying at the Barnwell Inn is the breakfast. It is presented beautifully, and the food is out-of-this-world good! Our stay at the Barnwell Inn was one of the best lodging experiences we've ever had. I'm even looking forward to a return trip to Cooperstown! There appear to be other lovely inns and b&b's in Cooperstown, but there is no need to look beyond the Barnwell Inn.

Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the area. During our week's vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Lake Otsego in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. Pure Americana from a time that relects our grandparents era of when vacationing upstate and in the Catskills was a big thing. The building itself and the rustic decor reminds me of a hunting and fishing lodge. American flags, wood everywhere, log furniture, hunting/fishing instruments on the walls, checkers game on the table, all types of outdoorsy articles and sporting things placed around, an amazing view overlooking the lake, and the most wonderful outdoor deck to enjoy it on. We were greeted by the owner, Peter, and he gave us a quick tour of the place. There are spacious grounds with gas grills and picnic tables, a beach area for swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing right on the lake. They also will provide fishing gear for guests. I saw a canoe, pedal boat and kayaks that can be used free of charge. You can even get boat tours and fishing charters here. There is a free laundry room on site which is great if you're there with kids and cleaning some clothes is a must. Also some foosball, pinball and other games to occupy some time. Every morning a full complimentary breakfast is provided to all guests. All the rooms are newly refurbished with private baths and Adirondack décor. Cable TV in all rooms and free wifi throughout. AC units in the rooms too, but it can actually get cool enough at night so that you don't need it. Plus, they are located just 4 miles from Cooperstown, 4 miles from the Glimmerglass Festival, and 9 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park so everything is a quick drive. Reasonable room rates for all this make it a terrific deal. I have to say the rooms are well kept, clean, and very cozy. Peter is a very attentive and affable resort owner who cares about his guests and makes sure they have everything needed for a great stay. One of the highlights for me was just getting up early each morning to have a hot cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. So relaxing and peaceful. At night we sat out there under a blanket and drank wine. Another was the option of a home cooked meal here on a Saturday night on the deck prepared by Peter and his friendly staff. Shrimp cocktail, crab and corn chowder, char broiled delmonico steak, and dessert. Delicious meal. (Extra charge for this but so worth the price.) Oh, can't forget that yummy breakfast quiche and fresh fruits the next day before we had to sadly head home. Overall, just a wonderful place and one of the best spots we stayed at during our vacation. Great memories. A beautiful 15 minute drive to the ballpark and the most accommodating hosts ever! Rooms clean, well-appointed and we were lucky enough to get one with a view :) Genevieve offered a wonderful breakfast each morning and the view from the open-air deck could not be beat! Great way to start each day. Plenty of amenities offered for couples or families: games, kayaks, paddle boat, bbq, fridge, microwave, laundry facility, to name just a few. All the comforts of home, which made it a perfect place to land for 8 days! Was fun to get to know the hosts (Genevieve, Mary, Peter & Clayton), as well as other guests. This place is a hidden gem and does not disappoint!
