We were told this location will be close to our destination and we now learn its 45 mins away with a 2 way highway that we would travel for the week will stay here. I attempted to cancel the hotel and explained the situation. Sadly, I rec a response from a very rude employee Jennifer who denied the cancelation. $800 was lost in this situation. Fantastic! We made a last minute decision, after a week of our son playing at Cooperstown Dreams Park, to stay at Bayside Inn & Marina. It was just what the doctor ordered. The inn is located on the lake and has a private beach. There are both rooms and cabins. We had a room on the lake side, and it was so peaceful. Beautiful views and maybe a minute from the lake. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Cooperstown, so it's the perfect combination - relax at the lake or drive into town. There are grills available to use, and kayaks free to use for guests. The facility itself is on the older side, but it is well maintained, clean, and comfortable. And the staff are amazing - genuine smiles from everyone, friendly, and helpful. Did I mention the cost was around $100 less per night than the local " brand name" hotel, which is located in a strip mall and next to a McDonald's? No thanks! I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our visit. I don't know that we'll ever make it back to Cooperstown, but if we do I would stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

So upset for my mom. She is sick and they won't refund her money because was one day past the 72 hrs. Even with doctor's notes (which she didn't have to provide and did) they still denied her. Not very nice owners. She told my mom she would be fine by Sunday. They don't know my mom with her underlining conditions that will not make her fine by Sunday. They wouldn't even refund part of her stay. They have no compassion at all. Very upset for my mom. They offered to give her another reservation for later on this season. Which ends I believe in October. Not everyone is able to take off from work at a drop of a hat, but these people think they can. I guess they can't fill their cottage so they have to keep my mom's money. Most places there is a 48-24 hr cancellation policy for a refund. This place is 72 unreal. read more

While our boys were staying in the Cooperstown bunkers, our team families rented out all the cabins and some stayed in the motel. We had the BEST time!! Clean, friendly and welcoming. The beach area is great for bonfires, a grilling area with two huge grills and picnic tables. I highly recommend this place for a great time with friends and family! read more

The views are spectacular. However partially obstructed by overgrown trees and weeds. Also a massive amount of shrubbery has been cut down and just left for what looks like months. Kinda bums you out to see when such beauty is around you. See photo. The cottage has 3 bedrooms. One small bathroom, walk through style kitchen, with a small table and two stools, a dining area that sits 6, a living area with a couch that sits 3 and a chair. The cottage is two floors with the bathroom on the top main floor. The deck is off the bottom floor. The cottage itself is very wet. Moisture in the air, our guess is that is why there is a dehumidifier in the far bottom bedroom (that puts off A LOT OF HEAT). Now there are ONLY 2 wall units for air conditioning. The living room unit works at times but often only putting out like a fan. No cold. The upstairs bedroom has no way of getting any of the cold air. Thankfully we brought fans and stopped and bought a big one for the floor. The downstairs AC unit is oddly placed at the bottom of the stairs keeping the hall freezing and the back bedroom warm. Again a fan helped to pull the air in. The view is stunning from the living room but the sun beating on the windows and the lack of a good AC made us miss it often because we would have to close the curtains to help preserve the cool air we did have. All three bedrooms have DOUBLE beds. Yes. Double. Small for two adults. But the beds were clean and comfortable. The upstairs bedroom has a poll to hang clothes and a dresser but the bottom bedrooms do not have a hanging area. They each have one dresser. We stopped at the general dollar and bought an over door rack. You enter the property from the front by the bathroom and dining area but to get to the deck you must go down the level to the other two bedrooms which made it to be used much less then we would have liked. The kitchen was clean and so was the living room. Cable worked great and so did wifi. But service was spotty. We have Verizon and sprint. There is a light on the front step but the light on the back deck did not work. The bathroom was clean. Small. With a stand up shower. Bathing Towels, hair dryer and toilet paper are supplied. However no exhaust fan. All the rooms do have base bored heaters and looked to work if you decide to come on a colder day. The beach is simple and lovely. However you do have to stay in the wet sand as the dry sand was completely infested with ground Bees. But my kids loved playing in the lake sand and feeding the ducks that came to swim with us. The canoes and kayaks they let you rent for free are wonderful and seemed to be available whenever you wanted them. My older son fishes so he had to go out pretty far to fish because the grass/seaweed followed you out for a bit. People often went to the beach at night. You could see the fire or hear faint sounds but nothing disturbing. All the guests here seem very nice and respectful. The game room was decent. Older games but they worked. Again it was clean. And they have a change machine on site to make it convenient. Cottage L is spacious in the common space. Bedrooms are small. But with 2 small children the common area was important so they could run and play. However if we ever came back we would not choose this cottage again. Nice quiet little little motel and cottage by the lake. We were only here one night so I can't comment on the lake or lake activities. The place is quiet. They have a small game room. Some games aren't working. They have a nice sitting area to relax and play a few games The rooms are old school but well maintained. I say quaint place with wood accents etc. they have wifi. That's good because AT&T cell has zero coverage here. We had to go into Cooperstown proper to get a signal. Already looking for a reason to come back. read more

This was a last-minute booking. We were passing through Cooperstown and, as luck would have it, it was Hall of Fame Induction weekend, so finding anything decent for under $200 a night was a real challenge. Bayside Inn and Marina was a decent stay. We got in very late and they left the key for us on the counter, which was nice. The room was fairly clean though definitely out of date with old carpeting and furniture. Notably, someone's sleeping mask was on the floor next to the bed. I'm pretty easy but my companion was not crazy about this room. Our room faced the parking lot but still allowed some view of the lake. Book in advance to get prime real estate. And, even though it was high season, paying upwards of $150 for this room (closer to $200 with all the fees and taxes) without even a comp breakfast was definitely outside what I consider reasonable. read more

Stayed here in a cottage for a couple nights for a visit to Cooperstown with my parents this weekend. We enjoyed it very much. Once you get out of the busy season, it's an amazing value - we had two small bedrooms, full kitchen and huge screened in porch with a full lake view for under $200/night. The kitchen supplies (pots/pans/silverware etc) could stand to be replaced and a garbage disposal would've been nice, but I was just happy to be able to cook. Everything was super clean. Cute and quiet property that was nice to come back to after tourist-ing around each day. read more

This was a charming motel and a perfect family spot. We loved the swimming beach and checked out kayaks and canoes for a fun afternoon after the Baseball Hall of Fame. The retro game room was a great activity for our teenagers. Everyone was very helpful and kind. We liked our balcony as well! (Our only small suggestion would be to move the dumpsters so they aren't the primary view from the balconies). We had a great stay! read more

The room decor was very dated, the queen size bed was only accessible from one side because it was pushed up against the wall. The bedding was scratchy. The bedside lamp was defective and shorted out. Checkout is at 10 AM. Staff was not very friendly. The place was very clean and there was a small coffee pot in the room. read more

I don't know how someone could give this place a bad review? If you want a ritzy place that is going to cater to your every waking need then yes this is not the place for you. But if you just need a nice place to stay and want to stay at a clean and friendly motel surrounded by gorgeous scenery then you will love it here. My boyfriend and I recently stayed here for a couple nights on our visit to Cooperstown. Its no more than a 10 min drive to the town. We were pleasantly surprised by this adorable motel. The room was not outdated. It had a fridge, coffee pot, flat screen HD tv and cable and wifi. It had a balcony with a little table and chair set up, clean bedding and towels and a hair dryer in the bathroom. The only thing bad I really have to say was the beds were a bit stiff but nothing that made us uncomfortable. From the balcony I was blown away by the view. It wasn't top notch but how could you say what you saw wasn't beautiful, peaceful and serene? It is just a short walk to the lake and you can rent kayaks and canoes. The staff was great, super friendly, made sure we were taken care of for sure. There was a game room and fitness center but we didn't really bother too much because we were busy doing other things in town so I can't rate those things. This in is about 10 minutes north of Cooperstown on Route 80. We were not sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. The inn was very clean and had homey appointments. They had a game room with a pool table. I also love locations that have a fridge for healthy snacks and water. The beds were quite soft a bit much for my achy bones but quite comfy if you like that. Not quite what we had hoped it would be.... I was excited to book this spot based on what I had read, but it didn't quite live up to our expectations. Pros: The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Cons: Our room was on the ground floor and our view was the parking lot and the trash building, not the lovely lake view I had hoped for. We had to walk down the road past the cottages to get to the beach and were quite disappointed to find a small swimming area set between 2 boat docks. Our kids didn't want to swim there. We were able to drive to a nice swimming spot, however. They charged us an extra $30 per night for our children (ages 4-11), which seemed a bit much. When we checked in on Sunday for a 3 night stay, we asked about shortening our stay to 2 nights and were told we had already been charged for 3 nights and there would be no refunds for early departure. While I understand they have a 72-hour cancellation policy, a bit of flexibility would have been nice. The weather wasn't great and the motel was not a nice place to hang around, so we did, indeed depart after 2 nights, despite paying for 3. Also, the pillows are extremely uncomfortable. This is an ok place, but after visiting Cooperstown I think there are better options and I wouldn't recommend staying here. read more

Note to families in town for Cooperstown Dreamspark: The Bayside Inn and Marina does NOT welcome baseball families!!! This place has pluses and minuses, with the latter far outweighing the former. It's fairly clean but the accommodations aren't quite what are represented on the website. There is a workout room, but the equipment is rickety. It's lakefront, but you don't have access to the dock, so you can't rent a boat or fish. For that matter, you can't really even swim in the lake! Overall, the amenities listed on the web site (game room!) suggest that this is a family-friendly place, and that may be true--if you've got a family of seniors! The owners are dour and mistrusting of their guests. The rule book they serve up is as hefty as War and Peace. There were so many restrictions on our stay I almost forgot that I paid $1400/week to stay here! The final kick in the pants was the requirement that guests strip the beds and take all the sheets and Towels to the laundry room and gather the garbage and take it down to the dumpster themselves. read more

Way back in 1992 my friends and I began coming to Cooperstown, New York on an annual basis for the Baseball Hall of Fame's induction ceremony. In the days before the internet we discovered the Bayside Inn and Marina in the phone book and were pleasantly surprised by the scenic splendor of the place, it's spectacular surroundings, clean and comfortable accommodations. We re-booked our reservation for one of the cottages for the next five years and we have continued to enjoy meeting at the Bayside Inn for numerous annual reunions. I've become a frequent visitor on my own. The grounds are meticulously kept and very welcoming, some of my favorite activities at the Bayside include cooking out on the strategically placed grills in front of the rooms or cottages and the large patio-style veranda at the center of the grounds or the gazebos down by the beach where I take my coffee amidst the majestic sunrise each morning. I also enjoy utilizing the kayaks and canoes to head out on excursions of the magnificent Lake Otsego sometimes I take a fishing pole. In the evening the absence of artificial light provides a spectacular view of the night sky. I'm not a kid and I don't have kids but I do enjoy spending in the game room, shooting a game of pool while playing on the songs on the jukebox. Over the years, I've become friendly with the staff and enjoy talk with whoever is working the front desk in the morning about my plans for the day. They're always very friendly and helpful. The very spacious lobby in the Inn's main building just off the front desk is good place to sit and conduct business in the morning, the WiFi signal is strongest there and big deck on the back the building also provides a dramatic view of the lake. Sometimes I'll eat dinner in the lobby with friends if we order a pizza or other take out food from town and we can watch ballgames on the large screen t.v. The seven-mile distance from Cooperstown is close enough to be convenient and far enough to feel secluded and less than a mile from the Glimmerglass Opera House. Over the years I've also stayed at some of the other hotels in town, including the historic Otesaga resort hotel and its Cooper Inn annex, but I prefer to stay at the Bayside for its spectacular location and serene surroundings. It's one of my favorite places in the world! read more

I absolutely adored it here! The Bayside has three different lodging options: inn, motel and cottages. We chose the inn. and it was well worth it. The room was clean and comfy. Tea and coffee are provided in the morning. The Bayside offers soda and snack machines, a game room with a decent amount of arcade games, a pool table and juke box and a lounge room complete with board games and a television. There is a deck where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. They also offer canoes and kayaks. They are free for the first hour, and ten dollars an hour after that. There is also a spot roped off in the lake to swim. I would recommend the Bayside to anyone who is visiting Cooperstown. We were about ten minutes away from the Baseball Hall of Fame, and this was the cheapest lodging I found around town. I can't wait to visit again! read more

The parking lot was horrendous! No real spots so people were spaced out providing less spots to park in and getting out of the parking lot was a challenge with it being on a steep hill. The motel room was cozy with a microwave and mini fridge and the cooling system was wonderful on a hot night. There was a great view of the lake and benches outside of every room. The staff was wonderfully friendly and let's you check in whenever the room is clean whether it's noon or 4pm. The beds were extremely comfortable but too soft for me. Still has" old fashioned" keys. If I could go lower than 1 star, I would. I completely understand all the comments about the staff being rude! They learned from their night time manager. When we reported finding a dead bed bug on the box spring, Jennifer was more concerned with being awakened at 11pm than our comfort or the cleanliness of the room. She refused to offer us another room. I suppose she was afraid of what we might find. Then she proceeded to yell at us across the parking lot. Can she even spell guest service?? We were left in a lurch after 5-1/2 hours on the road. Certainly not the way we had planned to start our vacation. Luckily a newly remodeled room was available at the nearby Holiday Inn Express. If i could give zero stars I would. We were charged a $200 fee when we checked out, so I called and was told a manager would call back- they never did. So I called back a few more times and finally got in touch with someone. Jennifer the "manager" told us the charged a $200 fee for smoking marijuana and that our room smelled badly of it- when I told her we do not smoke and also reminding her we have basically a newborn with us, she basically laughed at me and said "we charge one smoking fee per season" so I guess we were the lucky pick. She also mentioned that we had our "privacy please" tag on the door all weekend, so clearly she was upset that the housekeepers weren't able to be in our room to snoop around. We brought our 8 week old daughter with us so we didn't want her medications and belongings to be touched. I even went as far as saying we would gladly be drug tested to prove we don't smoke- and again she laughed as if it were a big joke. I'm on maturity leave so what was supposed to be a nice family getaway to watch a baseball tournament ended up being a nightmare. Jennifer was extremely unprofessional and obviously was looking to make extra money off of us, and she did. read more

This place is not the Ritz but it was perfect for our needs and the setting could not be beat. While the amenities at Bayside Inn & Marina were adequate, nothing special, but good enough, the website and staff were very misleading. Notice the good reviews are primarily written by families visiting Cooperstown for non-baseball related activities. Because baseball families are clearly not welcome! Deep in the rule book, which was decorated with baseball bats and balls, it states that players lodging at Dreams Park are NOT welcome at Bayside Inn and Marina. We were also told we could not dock a rented boat on their docks if we had a son at Dreams Park. Almost felt illegal what they were telling us. We calmly discussed the issue but they had no interest in accommodating us. Kids were not allowed to stand on docks, fish off docks or even look at the docks so the beach was pretty useless aside from kayaking. We asked these questions up front but were not alerted to these issues. If they prefer to cater to non-baseball families, for whatever reason, of course that is their prerogative, but you can't take our money and then enlighten us after the check clears. That's just bad business. I found the staff to be rude and arrogant. We are back in two years for another tournament and will stay anyplace but here. Thank goodness the property next door allowed us to use their docks so our kids could play and we could park our rented boat. Maybe we'll stay there next time. read more

Picture a motel from the 1940s or 1950s and you have this one. Things are clean and tidy and the location convenient, but the price is way beyond what you might expect at close to $200 per night. There is a tiny beach. Two towels would fill it, but nobody was using it when we were there. The swimming area is also very small: about the size of an indoor motel pool. There is a lot of boat and jet ski activity so you wouldn't feel safe outside the small area. There has been an effort to make things nice and attractive, but the effect is ruined by huge "don't do this" signs everywhere. I wanted to walk out to the end of one of the docks and sit down to enjoy the beautiful lake, but signs advised me I could not. Some of the larger units/cottages might be better, but our room was very dark. This could have been remedied by opening the two doors, but there were no screens on them. I enjoyed the little balcony. All the staff were dealt with were friendly and helpful, but I noticed the bedspreads are not washed for each guest. This motel is on a very steep slope. Many units would not be suitable for someone in a wheelchair. read more
