Great find in Charlottesville on our way home from DC! This is a wonderful little Turkish joint with fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated and it was so quick! The staff were very kind. I had the Chicken Wrap with fries. Outstanding! The dip that comes with the fries is amazing. The portions were huge! My friend had a salad and really enjoyed it. It was the perfect size for a super hungry diner. Cannot recommend Otto enough!

This cute place is run by great people. Hasan was very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for making us feel home, Hasan. We will be back! :) The food was very tasty and the atmosphere is extra cozy. 5 stars

I tried their build-your own bowl with beef, and really enjoyed it! I like the concept of being able to pile what you want into a customized bowl. The meat was well-seasoned and although slightly chewy, it was a generous portion. The vegetables and toppings all had great flavor and seemed fresh. Great sauces as well. I also tried the baklava, half of which was pistachio and half of which was walnuts. They were slightly soggy, but still tasted good. The service was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and we didn't have to wait long to order and get our food. It's a fast casual set up where you order and choose the toppings at the counter, then find your own table. The space was clean, there was plenty of seating, and the only tricky part was finding parking. Thankfully, we found some street parking a few blocks away, so we didn't have to walk far.

The ambience was very nice in the inside! I got the ottobun which I pictured in the photo. It was very mediocre - I figured it would be more flavorful and succulent but it kind of tasted like a basic pita sandwich with chicken and vegetables. Maybe if I would have gone with the bowl or loaded fries it would have been better. The server and owner seemed very nice and were helpful in the selection. Just think the food could have been better.

Visited on a Wednesday during Happy Hour. It was nearly empty so our food was ready pretty quickly. I was glad to see many flavors of Bold Rock, including the seasonal ones. It's Charlottesville so that's unsurprising but nice nonetheless. Food-wise, I ordered the steak Ottobun, rosemary fries, and baklava. My guest order brussel sprouts but to my advantage started to get full so I commandeered them. Everything was tasty and flavorful. I see why this place is so popular. My only gripe is the steak itself wasn't as hot as I would've liked. It was lukewarm at best. After I finished dining, I noticed the happy hour discounts hadn't been applied, but they apologized and promptly refunded me for the difference.

This is a counter order restaurant with bowls and wraps - like a Turkish chipotle. The food was fresh, the service was as fast as it could be while we waited to order behind a family with four indecisive children. There were several small tables to enjoy your meal. There is no fountain - all drinks are prepackaged - and they gave some unique soda offerings along with your typical Cokes. My bowl was loaded with toppings and really tasty, especially that celery sauce (which was like a tzatziki, garlicky and creamy). A bit off the mall, but a nice quieter option if you're looking for dinner before a show or a movie without the noise of the mall.

Otto is definitely famous in the neighborhood! It was hard not to notice that nearly everyone who crossed the street seemed to be heading there. Their food has a flavor that truly transports you to the streets of Turkey. The location is beautiful, with lots of open windows that let you enjoy both the food and the atmosphere. Our one-year-old absolutely loved the servers, and so did we. The crew was super friendly, making the experience even better. We highly recommend this place!

They held up well, were great serving sizes, were balanced nutritionally, and incorporated lots of fun flavors. Sumac onion, fried eggplant, bulgur rice, red cabbage, sour pickles, and more! We loved every bite and it was more than enough food. My teenage son couldn't finish his pita. The sauces are super tasty, and the people are great. Almost makes me wish I lived closer. I would definitely be a regular. read more

Definitely one of my weekly go to's! Fast service, great workers, amazing flavors. I typically get a bowl or a pita with the beef doner. The meat is always fresh and flavorful and all the toppings add so much. I Like that this menu is simple because it makes ordering much faster. read more

This is such a great take out restaurant (although there is seating inside). I always build my own bowl and it definitely is enough for two meals if you get the maximum number of toppings. The portion of meat is the most generous of any build-your-own-bowl place I know of. It is on the downtown mall but there is a pull off area near it so you can run in and grab your food. There also is a big parking lot right next to it (but you have to pay). read more

We tried Otto's the 1st time over the weekend.... WOW delicious! Also super great people. The owner (i think) helped us and was incredibly helpful and very appreciative of our business. I got the beef doner wrap with a bunch of toppings and tzatziki. Beef was well-seasoned and crispy, and paired well with celery labneh and roasted red pepper sauce. Also my wrap was huge and loaded up... definitely a lot for the money. read more

I got the beef. Meat was dry and tough and not freshly shaved. My companion got the Chicken which wasn't much better. No distinctive tastes for any of the mix ins. Yon entry you are greeted with a video of juicy meat being shaved. But that's not what we got in our bowls. read more

Food is good, always received generous portions. However, we just visited the place and felt that they under filled our bowl after we told them that we were sharing it. The person behind the counter made every attempt to serve the least amount of food possible, and we felt somewhat uncomfortable while watching this. We always share our bowl but this time around we decided to eat at the restaurant. As I walked to the restroom I noticed that the rest of the people had been served the usual amount we receive when we ordered takeout in the past. We felt robbed as we ordered their most expensive menu item. Bad experience, might not return. read more

A pleasant surprise finding this restaurant! We were on the mall and saw their sign "to walk 1/10 mile" up one of the side streets. I'm glad we did. Why eat outside in the middle of the mall on patio furniture when you can sit inside with the outside just on the other side of a wall that has been rolled up! Two of the walls roll up like garage doors. So open, yet comfy. The food was fresh and delicious. I had the lentil soup. I highly recommend it! My husband had a "build a bowl" with hummus, greens, eggplant, celery dip & chicken topped with taziki sauce. Altogether very yummy! Our entree & one side dish (the soup) plus tip was $25. Extremely reasonable this day in age of high prices everywhere. read more

I honestly don't know which was better--the personable and friendly owner and staff or the food! I had the best falafel sandwich I have ever enjoyed and my husband had the beef Istanbowl which included fantastically flavorful beef, beet salad, pickled onions, eggplant, hummus and other fabulous ingredients, each one delicious unto itself but together made a taste sensation. The restaurant has a casual and warm vibe and even offer beer and wine in their cooler! We enjoyed chatting with the owner who proudly shared his Turkish heritage. We will definitely be back next time we come through town. There's a lot more on the menu that we have to try! read more

Delicious! I had a beef bowl with pretty much all of the toppings. I gotta say that the beef had a great flavor and the toppings were all fantastic (and so was the bulgar!). Big portions too. This place gets 5 stars for a lot of reasons! Love the interior, the roll-up garage doors that welcome a nice fall breeze...that was a good start. I ordered a doner pita, rosemary fries and a Turkish soda. The service was helpful and also sweet and kind. My pita was prepared, wrapped in paper and fresh fries were on their way. The first bite of the pita- everyone has their own spin on the flavors they know. The crunch of the pickles and the flavor of every single component of this pita had its own twist. About halfway thru, I could smell fresh fries but realized I never got them. In between me ordering and sitting down, there was a constant stream of customers. I went back to the counter and was about to ask about my fries and the owner immediately felt bad (that was my intent) and stopped up fresh fries, sprinkled with rosemary salt. The smell. Oh my. These were SO good! He came over to my table a few minutes later, apologetic and brought a container of baklava. I told him that wasn't necessary- it wasn't a big deal at all (and had I not smelled the divine fries, it would have skipped my memory...lesson here- ORDER the fries...they are just that good!) He insisted that I take the baklava. Fast forward, hours later...in my hotel room. Baklava staring at me from across the room. Well, if I must. One was pistachio. The other walnut. Oh my....the perfect balance of ground nuts, sweetness, neither overpowering, in perfect harmony. read more

It was my first visit but i ll definitely come back . We ordered both bowl and pita sandwich , falafel bowl, rosmery fries , we very loved them , they were delicious, delicious....... the staff are sooo kind and helpful, place were very clean and prices were very fair. My niece and I were doing a little road trip to Monticello and decided to venture into Charlottesville and look around. We decided to eat here based on the Yelp reviews. My initial impression was a good one - the place smelled wonderful and it was extremely clean. We both opted for bowls and were able to choose from about 12 or more topping options, plus a meat choice, and toppings. I got chicken and she got falafels (which they cooked fresh). We went for our first time a couple of weeks ago for lunch , and we enjoyed our food a lot. Everything was very fresh and very well seasoned/spiced. I ordered a vegetarian plate with falafel , and my husband ordered a kebab and will definitely go back to try other specialties. It's very reasonably priced and very friendly service. read more

Even when they were very busy, the wait for a seat is rather short. It's mainly four-top seats but they can push together tables as needed. There's music always playing and not a lot of padding to soften noise so I'd call the location "average" loud. Downtown Charlottesville doesn't really do free parking. You can park at the next corner in open parking to the left or paid parking to the right. But we're talking $2 or so, not a bank-breaking experience and with lots of shopping across the street it's worth staking out a spot and then walking the area. What I like: The food is tasty. The appetizers are solid. There's a large enough menu that you can always try something new. And the portions are ample enough to share. What I'm not so fond of: The waitstaff spend a lot of time at the front scrolling on their phones. They aren't too keen on refilling your drinks either. I say this as someone who has eaten here about a dozen times. Also, I don't normally mind cameras, but there are enough blinking lights on cameras to make it feel more like a jewelry store than a restaurant. That said, if you are not in a hurry, want some good food in solid portions, and plan to do some shopping or window shopping downtown, this has been my go-to place for years.

Their spiced mashed potatoes and white bean salad were notably flavorful. A pomegranate tea tasted a bit too much like juice and not enough like tea for me. I'd just get a plain tea if I had to choose again. Having said that, I needed some variety in my diet and I was happy to have received it here.

I bought the felafel classic and the mezah classic, and to make sure the main proteins (felafel and chicken) were proper, I purchased the boost option for both bowls. So should have been double chicken and felafel. I wouldn't have felt justified complaining about the felafel bowl or the portion (was true double and what was expected), but the chicken portions were pretty sad in my fair opinion. The additional chicken was placed in a separate container. At first glance, just looking at said container, I thought it was light, considering I paid about $33 for two bowls (same price each). When I sat down to eat the mezah classic (with the double meat) at the end of the day, I noticed that the amount of meat in the bowl, was about a 4th of the amount of chicken that was in the separate container that I thought was light. I could see my self purchasing the felafel bowl again at some point, and maybe explore some of their other options. We need places like this as alternatives to less healthy options, but I would like to be able to rely a little more on reasonable expectations of portions (excluding felafel bowl - no complaints, and haven't explored other dishes). I think this review is fair considering the said price I paid, but maybe I should be a little lighter with my constructive criticism considering the variety of micronutrients as a convenience purchase without breaking the bank, as that's something worth appreciating. The dolmas were decent (but it's grape leaves and rice, how can you mess it up??) and the green salad was ONLY good bc there was some feta to put on top. The dressing was just straight oil no other flavors. I can't comment on their ambiance, I'm not sure if you can eat inside since it was catered to us. Maybe the place is nice but I haven't been there so I wouldn't know. This is the worst meal I've had in awhile and I do not recommend their food. The others at my table all said the same thing, we were not impressed. Would not recommend.

These establishments cater to the idea that a meal tailored to one's taste is less likely to disappoint. This isn't necessarily a reflection of my own preferences, but rather an observation that such places naturally have an edge in customer satisfaction ratings. I tried a chicken bowl with an assortment of pickled vegetables, crisp cabbage, and bulgur wheat. The chicken, while not outstandingly tender, was adequately prepared and contributed to the bowl's healthy appeal. The variety of sauces, including garlic and tahini, added depth with their rich flavors and varied textures. The option to enjoy a beer with the bowl was a nice touch, elevating the casual dining experience. My choice of a Mythos beer was a complementary addition to the meal. It's full of very bland food. The dining here is simply not that good - there are other, much better Turkish options in town. Moreover, their customer service is very rude. I left an honest two-star review for them, and they accused me of being a fake - I have never experienced such weird and threatening customer service before.
