The food is so delicious. Healthier than any other Indian food coz its less oily. Also they say they dont use seed oil, instead they use avocado and coconut oil. It was grand opening today and place was cozy and friendly staffs.

Just reopened and the renovation is beautiful! Catted with the owner, no cooking with food dyes! Excellent selection and food!

Loved this restaurant for its ambiance, its food & the enthusiasm & caring of its owner, Priti (she may have pronounced her name Briti, so I apologize if I am wrong). On a bone-chilling cold day this month, we were glad to find warmth in colorful wall art, pillows, lunch buffet dishes & a nice conversation with Priti, who emigrated from Nepal when she was 17, lived in Washington, DC & came to Charlottesville with her husband. She asks each customer if they are enjoying their meal & checks in on customers that you can tell from the conversation that they are regulars & that personal attention is rare these days in restaurants. Lunch buffet dishes run the gamut of Indian, Nepalese & even a bit of Chinese; all good & served in frequently refilled & lovely copper-colored chafing dishes. I even got a wave & a smile from the gentlemen working in the see-through kitchen as they prepared naan after naan. There is a full bar & bar seating, wall murals both colorful, funky & one of them even a little scary. Seating is on chairs & wall benches with long cushions & many pillows. Very comfy. The cardamom-inflected milky tea & milled wheat with sugar (Suji Halwa) were the perfect ending before we went back out to brave the cold.

    Veggie momos (half order)

I enjoy eating Tibetan, Nepalese, and Indian food so I was really excited to try a restaurant that offered some of all three. First difficulty: I ordered chicken momos as an appetizer and lamb korma for my main...only for the waitbeing to return in 3 minutes to tell me there was no lamb available. In this place, that is a disaster, since they offer lamb, chicken and veggie options for their dishes and one-third was out of commission on a Wednesday night. Worse: why not make sure the staff knows this so they can prevent that order in the first place and steer guests to other choices from the start? (In restaurant trade, that's known as "86", as in "86 the chicken kiev" so no more orders are taken for food that can't be prepared). Okay, so I revised my order from chicken momos and lamb korma to something different: veggie momos and chicken korma. 3 minutes later, my waitbeing has returned--they don't have enough veggie momos to make a full order (8). No problem, I said, I'll take a half order. 25 minutes later, the whole order shows up simultaneously, momos and korma, served all at once. Now, by this point I'd eaten my way to the bottom of the complimentary papadums and was wondering when my order might show. I will say, my food was hot, freshly made, and tasted good, so full marks on that front. But then I was ignored...as in, no one came back to check if I liked the food or needed more of anything like water while I ate the food presented. And I was at a table in the center of the restaurant. Positive point: my korma and half order of momos cost a grand $22, so great value. Negative: you may have to revise your order, wait on your food, and accept all parts at once if you eat here.

    Leechee drink

I admit the word fusion always scares me. With rare exceptions, it usually is synonymous with unauthentic and confused for me. I finally got over my prejudice and gave Himalayan Fusion a try this weekend, and I was so glad I did! My friends and I were there for dinner on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. The restaurant was spacious, with beautiful decor. The servers were friendly and brought us water and refillable chips promptly. We ordered five entrees to share, and every dish was phenomenal. I particularly enjoyed the Aloo Golbi, the Chicken Korma, and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Every dish was sizzling warm and made with care, with perfectly balanced flavors. One of my friends ordered the leechee drink, which I stole a sip of, and it was perfectly sweet and refreshing. Our server was very pleased we cleaned off all our food. Will definitely be back to try their lunch buffet as well!

My favorite dish was the the sukuti sadheko appetizer -- the goat was almost jerky like, chewy (in the best way) but still tender; and spicy. It was served with these rice crispies that looked plain, but had so much flavor on their own. It was a fun & delicious play on texture, flavor and spice. The braised yak was tender and warm with the spices and rice, yum. Loved all the options for goat, lamb, yak, etc. There were also plenty of options for vegetarians as well.

The bar area is big and spacious, and usually sitting at the bar means better, more attentive service. The place was mildly busy, so I expected things to run smoothly -- but that wasn't the case. Right from the start, the bartender wasn't very attentive. We had to ask multiple times just to place our order. For appetizers, we tried the Goat Buttan and the Wild Boar -- we wanted to explore some of the unique delicacies on the menu. Both dishes were interesting, and the Goat Buttan and Wild Boar were actually pretty solid. Unfortunately, the service continued to be an issue. We had to flag the bartender again just to order our entrées and even for simple water refills. We ordered the Mutton Taas and the Yak Chili. The Yak Chili was very good, but the Mutton Taas was extremely dry -- like eating cardboard -- and lacked flavor. Throughout the night, our bartender was constantly absent. More than once, we had to ask another bartender to get his attention so we could get basic service. After finishing our meal, we ordered a dessert, the Gulab Jamun. The presentation looked nothing like the picture -- more like a sloppy drop of pudding -- and the taste was just as disappointing. And again, we had to flag down another bartender because ours was nowhere to be found. Service overall was lackluster, and the tip options started at 20% with no 18% choice. For the level of service we received, 15% would have been more appropriate. I won't be returning anytime soon unless I'm specifically craving their unique delicacies -- which is once in a blue moon.

The chili paneer was a bit sweet, although the paneer was delicious, really chewy and flavorful. Goat momos had so much flavor, the soup was delicious, loved it. Mango lassi was very thick and yogurt-y, not too sweet (it's pre-made so can't remove the sugar), although mango flavor could've been stronger. Service was decent, waters kept getting refilled. And I'm sad we did, because the food was NOT good. We ordered - Impossible meat momos 3/5 - they were okay...not the best and not the greatest. The flavor was hiding and the momo did not stay in tact at all. The sauce that they served alongside did not enhance the momo at all. Veggie momo 3/5 - again, they were okay. In fact, I think these were worst than the impossible meat momos. Didn't seem like there was any flavor and just veggies mushed together with salt and pepper. Raita 3/5 - way too liquidy for my liking. I thought they would at least provide rice, but no. So it was just basically liquid yogurt with a couple of strips of cucumbers and carrots. Paneer chili 0/5 - the container literally said 'paneer chili' and after 2/3 bites, I asked my friend if this was actually paneer because it was kind of chewy? Of course it wasn't and it was chicken!! I'm vegetarian so I was so disappointed that they put the wrong item in our order, especially since the container explicitly said paneer. This morning I woke up with a terrible stomachache. The food definitely did not sit right with me. I'm definitely going to skip this place and try Moh Moh Licious next time.

The prices were reasonable as well. What a great choice, quite literally the best Indian food we've ever had anywhere, hands down! We had an appetizer; samosa chaat, so good and fresh! We had butter chicken as an entree which had the most amazing, creamy, smooth taste I've ever had, no one does it like that! Also got the tandoori paneer tikki, so good, cheese was smoky and melts in mouth, the cheese and butter naan we got was yummy as well! We got a birthday drink too which was quite refreshing. During the meal the owner stopped to see how the food was, I told him it was the best we've ever had, I told him we we're celebrating my sons birthday, at the end of the meal he surprised him with a cake and turned on happy birthday music playing throughout the speakers in the restaurant ! Such a cool ending to a fantastic meal! Not only was the food fantastic but the owner is so friendly and nice! Cannot wait to go back !! You need to runnnnn there !!

A true hidden gem! Himalayan Doko is my absolute favorite indian/nepalese place in the entire US (I…read moretravel a lot and indian food is usually a go-to of mine). The food here is extremely authentic and well seasoned I've eaten most of the lamb/goat dishes here and they're all phenomenal! The first time I came I believe my table had the goat curry, lamb curry, pani puri, samosa chaat, and butter chicken. And this time we got the goat sekuwa, lamb karahi, lamb thakali thali, and pani puri (again). I think it speaks volume about a place when the butter chicken (which is still great) is not the standout dish in a desi restaurant. And even then it's one of the most seasoned versions I've ever tasted. The dishes here are all amazing, flaborful, and not spicy (though I'm sure you can always ask about adding or taking away spice to the waiters). The service here is fast, there's never been a long line. And the place is very clean, spacious, and good for all ages. I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're debating whether or not you should come consider that debate over -- you're coming.
