Our Place Cafe is a strange little restaurant. I've been to this place twice: once for dinner, and recently for brunch. As always, the most important aspect to dining out is service. Now, what's funny is that the woman who owns Our Place, Corrie Sid, also owns Cafe de Fleur in Auburn - which I actually gave 1 star for having service so slow they we weren't able to get our meals. Well, Our Place is also quite slow, though not to the same degree. Just like the other restaurant, they seem genuinely short-staffed, even though Our Place was mostly empty at the time. But what really sets Our Place apart - in a bad way - is the environment. Normally, I don't give too much thought to interior design, but this one raises a few serious flags. It's a very old building; I can only guess what its original purpose was. You can see daylight peeking through the walls, which is odd. And the rusted tin roof isn't so much charming and folksy as it is off-putting. However, the big issue that caught my eye was the thick layer of dust over the ceiling diffuser, right above the tables on the ground floor. When the AC kicks on, the result will be blast of dust, grease, and mold spores directly onto the food of the people below. I'm not even going to talk about the food, other than saying "it's fine." Normally a place like this would garner 2 or 3 stars, but the questionable (to say the least) health and safety of Our Place Cafe prevents me from doing that in good conscience. 1 star. read more

I wanted to love this restaurant. I really did! Husband and I came in for his birthday; we were glad to get a reservation with about 3hrs notice and were excited about it. When we arrived the hostess was pleasant enough; told us our table wasn't ready and said we should go wait at the bar and enjoy a drink. We don't drink so we had a glass of water. The inside was pretty cool looking. Contemporary but rustic. Not a lot of tables on the main floor; several on the second floor. We were seated "under" the stairway and although the wooden charm of the place was nice, hearing every step when someone went up or down was a little annoying. Warm bread and whipped butter was really tasty. We started with fried mushrooms/horseradish dip - we got 8 really nice sized mushrooms but they didn't have a lot of flavor and the dip was average. We had fries catfish and blackened catfish for our main course. The menu said "served with potatoes or fries" - we were hoping for baked potatoes but the server said "mashed" so we went with fries. Husband loved the slaw - it was tasty. The fish was good, not too much breading on the fries and the blackened was nicely seasoned. There were two good sized pieces of fish too so didn't feel cheated by serving size, the fries were good too. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Ambience - nice Food - good, not fabulous Drinks - didn't have any Dessert - didn't have any Price - one appetizer and two entrees was $74. A little high for just good food. Menu - not enough creole for me. No jambalaya or gumbo! Payment system - I didn't like, Server didn't give a paper bill, she stood there with the tablet in my face as I paid. Tip page was 20/23/25% and "other". And it was based on amount after tax. I doubt we'll be back; it was fine but there are a lot of other places to try! read more

We went for a birthday dinner on a Saturday afternoon. My first time here. When we were seated they told us that the cupcakes we bought were not allowed. No outside food at all as allowed into the restaurant per the new owners. Ok we didn't know and how was we supposed to know. But know big deal. The offered us a chocolate cheesecake instead free of charge. That was super nice and our server did a good job. We ordered an appetizer ( fried crab claws) and they come fast and good. Our drinks at the table were sweating and the water was just running off the table onto our laps. Not sure why they don't use a napkin under the drinks. We finally got to order and the food took a long time to come out. I ordered the ribeye steak mid rare over the mashed potatoes and green beans. This didn't look like a good cut of meat. The steak was overcooked and the potatoes were cold. Other peoples food around the table was in similar shape. Not a $50 plate for sure. Overall the restaurant has a nice atmosphere that is set for a romantic date night, not set up for groups. Maybe a 4 top at best. I hope we had off night. I have heard good and bad things but wanted to see for myself. Is it worth going. Maybe if you get lucky. But for the price don't settle for an overcooked steak or a bad cut of meat. We went there tonight for a special occasion, first time there since change in ownership. The new owners have vastly improved both the food and the service. Had the best ribeye I've ever had in any restaurant in Alabama. Our server Catherine was great, the revised menu let's them stick to a manageable, excellently prepared list of food. Don't waste your time or money going to Big Mike's in Millbrook for a poor, tough piece of what was similar to horse meat when Wetumpka has the best steak place in Alabama read more

The filet mignon special was topped with blue cheese and caramelized onions served on a bed of creamed potatoes and asparagus. Unbeatable flavor combination. Just fantastic. Our server was a 10 out of 10. And the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. I definitely recommend Our Place Cafe. read more

Went out tonight with my wife to celebrate Mother's Day early. We chose Our Place because last time we went it was very very good and we had an excellent server. For as good as it was then it was 10x worse tonight. The service, food and staff (server and manager) were a 0 out of 100. We will never be back. What I hate from a restaurant is when you're ignored, left waiting for over an hour for your food and then told that your food is good, even when you've told them multiple times that it's terrible. That's what we experienced tonight. The server was trying to manage 14 people upstairs while downstairs we saw customers get their meals and leave within 30 to 35 minutes. We were brought greasy, food stained and dirty silverware, and then told that it was just water spots. The manager came by twice to offer us a free meal and then never deliver on our meal. We just couldn't wait long them out. I was not impressed. When you start with a 20 minute wait just to have them take your order, you know you're in trouble. I've lived in 26 countries and eaten all over the world and OUR PLACE in Wetumpka is in the top 10 of the worst places we've ever been. If you are going for a special event do not go here. No need to respond, even if free it isn't worth the gas it takes to drive there. Your manager made it clear we were not wanted, that we didn't know the difference between blue cheese (allergic) or horseradish. I'm allergic to Blue Cheese so I opted for the regular smash burger without it. Yet after a small bite my throat started to itch. I informed the server who went to get a plain one. After 10 min he returned to tell me I was told me I was wrong and the manager Jamie came up to tell me I was liar and don't know the difference. I consider myself quite the chef. (Others too) We walked out after 1 hr and 10 min with no food. Jamie never even tried to make it right. Other diners asked us what happened and we shared it with them. They mentioned they were seated before us and still didn't have any food. We wished them luck and left. Your staff failed you tonight. I guess Jamie and Race would rather be right than courteous and fix the problem. read more

The food was outstanding along with very special customer service. We had a little bit of everything. The crabcakes were delicious along with the fried green tomatoes with beautiful shrimp on top. We ate at Out Place about 4 months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We returned this evening and were extremely disappointed. We were told salads were no longer included with our meal. Baked potatoes were no longer an option with meals. I had a chicken dish that was mediocre. The service was okay but not as good as before. After seeing several negative reviews, we were skeptical about what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. Our party was seated immediately, our server, Jamie, greeted us and took our drink and appetizer orders. We were two couples and split two generous, delicious appetizers. Jamie told us about the specials. We ordered dinner and everything was prepared to our liking. The ambience was exactly as advertised. "Rustic New Orleans". Unfortunately, I can admit that I've made some bad decisions in my lifetime but me going to this place more than once was probably one of my biggest worst decisions I've ever made. The crabcakes are imitation crab, not real crab whatsoever so good luck with that and it's false advertisement and it's also against any kind of food restaurant regulations. They are so overpriced you can go to Disney World and back on the same price that you eat there one time. They had to fix my steak not once but twice. How hard is it to make a medium rare? We used to love this place! Dinner starts with a request for bourbon Woodford or Jack and they don't have. Then it went down hill with a very long wait, came back and said no baked potatoes, filet had no taste, salad was maybe 7 or 8 leaves of mixed greens and to top it off after paying the bill, realized 2 Four Roses drinks (not expensive bourbon) it was $40 or $20 per cocktail with Diet Coke (not an old fashioned or manhattan. So it wasn't one thing it was several things and such a disappointment. My expectations weren't super high but doubtful we will ever return after that experience. Sorry, but it's honest feedback. Always reliable for a good meal. The food is tasty if not memorable and solid favorites like fried shrimp or catfish make for an enjoyable meal. Reasonable priced items make this even more attractive. Service is good if not great. Ambiance is a bit tired but interesting. Needed to find a place to eat, pulled up Yelp app and went down some choices. Settled on Our Place Cafe and was glad I did! Very quaint and cozy. The owner met me at the door and took me over to a table. The service was quick, they had my Meomi Pinot Noir, which is always a nice surprise. Ordered a cup of she crab soup and it was very good. Selected the shrimp thermodore and it was very, very good. The owner worked the room like a pro, seemed to know everyone that came in and knew right away I was "not from around here"! Had a nice conversation about Wetumpka, the HGTV crew while filming their Transform series on the town and finished a delicious meal. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in town. read more

He said I think the waitress was confused about who was waiting on you all. Then a caucasian couple came and the waitress came right up to them. The waitress never spoke to us. We were passing through from Mobile, found Our Place on google. We had no reservations but they were very accommodating and worked us in very quickly. Everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is amazing. The building is gorgeous. Guys if you want to impress your lady this place will do it. (Make reservations) Waitress was very good. Food was delicious. First the good - ambience was great, service was excellent, appetizers were fried green tomatoes and fried mushrooms . Both appetizers were outstanding. She crab soup was very good but thin. I'd prefer thicker. Salads were ok but nothing special. Now the bad - one of us ordered the eggplant,, two ordered chicken picccata and one ordered trout almondine. The eggplant dish was barely fair, the chicken dish was over cooked, dry, no flavor, no sauce, no capers. Finally the trout was covered in a heavy brown sauce that would be better served on hamburger steak .We all said we would not order these again. Bad entrees at high prices did not make for an enjoyable fine dining experience. If we should go again, we will order only appetizers and soup but not entrees. For such a nice restaurant with excellent staff, management should have much better entrees. Pay attention management. You have an opportunity to provide a fine dining experience. I am so sad! I loved this place. I hope they are just getting used to things or something. I was so hopeful. The ambiance is gone. I wasn't looking for things to dislike....the opposite really. When you first walk in, something is different downstairs, but I wasn't sure what. It didn't feel small and private anymore. Upstairs felt loud and bright instead of dim, quiet and personal. The front door staff was not rude but not welcoming. The candles on the tables were replaced with LED lamps, the black tablecloths have white tablecloths over them, which adds to the brightness and takes away from the ambience. The menus were printed on plain white paper and were dirty. They reminded me of the menus at Hog Rock Café (sort of expected at a BBQ joint though). The server was sweet, but everything was slow, and there was an excuse for things before they even happened. It was hard to relax and enjoy dinner because someone kept apologizing for something.... "we are backed up, but we can seat you, you'll just have to wait a little while for your server" "the kitchen is backed up so it may be a while for the food, please be patient", "I'm not sure if we have steak sauce, I'll go downstairs and check, but I'll bring you ketchup just in case" " do you need more water and Coke?" (Glasses were empty). " are you ready for your check? OK, it will be a minute, I need to take this order but I'll go downstairs and get that for you as soon as I can". There were two of us. We ordered the ribeye with baked potato and veggies and the shrimp with baked potato and coleslaw. The steak was decent, but over 50% fat and cooked medium rare when ordered medium well. The rolls and butter have been replaced with a garlic seasoned bread that came with sweet cinnamon butter...that combination was not good....I like sweet and savory but garlic and cinnamon? The shrimp was probably the worst I've ever had. I don't normally care for fried shrimp, but Our Place always had really good fried shrimp. It's not the same. The coleslaw was sour. As in bad. Our total was $105 for the two of us after tip. $84 before the tip. I would have rather paid $105 at hog rock actually and left a giant tip for decent food. I had high hopes and really wanted it to be OK. I even waited a month before trying it in hopes they had worked out any kinks. I used to have dinner there twice a week. I'm heartbroken that such a nice place is no more. I will keep checking reviews, hoping to see improvement. read more

We went here for or 34th anniversary. Last minute choice, but they were able to seat us without a reservation(Saturday night) We had the fried shrimp and fried crab claws. Both were delicious. Service was great. Only improvement I can think of was a little more items in the salad. It could actually be smaller with a few more ingredients. read more

I so wanted to give high ratings to Our Place. We've been hearing great things about it for probably a year or more. Maybe I just have high expectations after eating at so many great restaurants as of late, but I just didn't have a 4 or 5 star experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was very neat and unusual which helped boost the score. The server was very nice and accommodating. She tried very hard to please our table but that's where most of the positives ended. I ordered a ginger ale & bourbon. She left and came back. They didn't have it. I ordered a whiskey, lemon and ginger-beer. She left and came back. They didn't have it. I ordered an old fashioned. It came back but it was not an old fashioned. It didn't have an orange peel or a cherry inside. Not sure what exactly even WAS in it. I think it had simple syrup?!, lol. Anyways, moving on... the Shrimp Diane dish was a weird texture. It's almost like the cheese in it did not get hot enough to bake into it and the whole thing arrived undercooked. I'm not sure if that's how it was supposed to be but it wasn't very good. The homemade rolls were good but they kind of tasted like a frozen roll you get from the grocery store. They looked very plain too. Finally, for dessert we ordered the bread pudding. On the plus side it was a healthy serving size, even split between 4 people, but it wasn't that good. It needed to be mushier, vs super fluffy and cooked. I guess?! it had raisins or extra ingredients but I don't really recall eating them. The sauce was just a white powdered sugar glaze. Kinda ho hum. I know they are working hard to do a good job here but my experience was less than 4 stars. Maybe I will add some more the next time we visit. read more

My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner here on a Friday night. The service was very good and we enjoyed the quaint feel of the restaurant. We would definitely recommend sitting upstairs. Make sure you make a reservation. Our waiter was attentive and kept up with the flow of our dinner very well. The only item missing was bread with our salad. We had the red snapper and lemon herb chicken. Both were prepared very well and the presentation was very appetizing. We had the peanut butter pie and bread pudding for dessert. Both were very good, but definitely recommend the bread pudding. We will definitely plan to eat here again the next time we are in town. read more

We are visiting Wetumpka and have been enjoying the "small town America" feel. We decided to try this place for dinner and were skeptical when we arrived and saw the outside of the building. Upon entering we were delighted with the friendly hostess and beautiful ambiance. It's a little bit on the higher end (price) but definitely worth it for a date night. Our place cafe is our "go to" restaurant in Wetumka. I have been a patron for over seven years. I live in Atlanta but visit the area on a regular basis. This restaurant is one of the three or four best places in the river region for a quality chief prepared meal in an upscale environment. The speakeasy atmosphere and the New Orleans themed menu combine to provided a very unique experience to remember. The gumbo is my favorite but the steaks and seafood are outstanding. The home made fried green tomatoes are a signature dish and the pasta dishes are wonderful. The wait staff is always friendly and extremely dedicated to providing a perfect dining experience. The only negative experience on a recurring basis is the less than pleasant attitude of the person who answers the phone and either elects or refuses to take "to go" orders. Every time we request a to go order, and there have been many over the years, we never know what the response will be. As a disclaimer, I recently called for a take out order requested by a sick friend of she crab soup and fried green tomatoes. I was steadfastly refused service over the phone. So don't expect to go orders to be taken with any enthusiasm. read more
