Our Town Cinemas definitely has a "hometown" vibe. I dig it. Came here for the first time 2 weeks ago to see a movie that came out 2 days prior. Thinking it would be sold out, I purchased tickets in advance online. I paid $3 extra online, so $20 total for 2 tickets to a matinee show. Saw people purchase tickets the day of with no issue. No line either. Oh well. Now, I know I don't need to purchase in advance. Showed my email confirmation to the lady at the booth and she handed me my tickets. Just like other reviewers said, this place is nothing like your typical movie theatre. It's a lot smaller. They only have four movie screens. Each theatre has office-like leather, rolling seats and bistro tables. Surprisingly, they do have a kitchen and offer more food items than AMC or Regal. OTC's extensive menu consists of hot and fresh items such as dinner baskets (sandwiches, burgers, wraps, chicken tenders, etc) pizzas, snacks (mozarella sticks, veggie & hummus, fries, etc) and of course popcorn and candy. Their drink menu includes beer, wine, and specialty drinks. However, specialty drinks do not contain liquor. It's more like malt beverages. My S.O. ordered a local beer and I ordered a glass of riesling as well as funnel cake fries. Our total was around $14. The lady at the counter handed us our drink orders and a flameless LED light candle with a number on it. That's how they know where to bring your food. Neat idea. My funnel cake fries arrived within minutes and were still hot. They were crispy and sweet, just like funnel cake at the fair but in a different shape. To be honest, I was a bit turned off when I found out about the seats, but to my surprise, the chairs were actually pretty comfy. I still prefer leather, reclining seats but these office chairs were adjustable and didn't give us any issues during the movie. The staff was friendly and helpful. They answered all our questions and even gave us samples of drinks when we were trying to decide. Movie ticket prices are comparable to big chains. Plenty of parking. Would I return? I've always known this place existed but since I've got a Regal Cinema complex very close by home, have never ventured to Davidson to try Our Town Cinemas out. Then, of all things, a work assignment comes to go see a movie as part of an upcoming discussion on Leadership/Diversity & Inclusion. See a movie for work? Yes! Problem was, I had to wait till the day before the meeting to get to a show and the only one that fit my schedule at Regal was 10:30 at night. I checked nearby theaters and up comes Our Town with a 7:00 pm show so.... Date Night! All in all, Our Town was a good experience. Don't go thinking massive screen and booming sound but do go if you want comfortable office chairs as seats, decent size screen and decent sound. Oh, and food, beer and wine to take to or have delivered to the table in front of you. While we didn't eat or drink this visit, the craft beer list is impressive and there was quite a selection of food to choose from that I believe comes out of the kitchen of the restaurant next door. We both enjoyed the experience and feel like there are more weekday date nights at this chill and friendly little theater in our future! read more

I love this place. Wine and a movie - what's not to love?!? I would go here for every movie but my husband prefers to see the big, action movies on a bigger screen. It's the perfect place for chick flicks. Went to Magic Mike with a friend and we were surrounded by groups of woman. It was like a girls' night out and the random comments from the other women were hysterical. Of course, when we went to a Harry Potter movie here, we were surrounded by little kids, spinning in their cozy chairs. Movie started and a spotlight in the ceiling remained on. Several people went to report it to the kids working up front. Each time they said they would take care of it.....after about 1/2 hour I went to ask when someone was going to deal with it and was told "it's broken, sorry". These theaters seem to be really really old. The screen itself is really small. The room is small. The table and office chairs on wheels that you sit in/at are a bit ridiculous and cheap. Not comfortable at all if you're wanting to sit back and relax when watching a movie. Not to mention there's only a few tables/chairs and it's first come first serve. Will this ever be my go to theater? Probably not. But, I would be open to going again for a good deal. My biggest complaint was the chairs. They were not comfortable at all. They are rolling office chairs which means it was difficult to shift your weight into more than just one position. For an hour, that is tolerable. 2 hours is a bit much. I was expecting something more along the lines of the Studio Grill in Uptown. (if you haven't been, they have lounge chairs) As for the food, it was overpriced just as it is at any other theater. You place the order at the front, and they bring it to your table. If you decide you want more food, you need to leave the room and go back to the front to order it. Reading all of the reviews, I went in with high expectations and they were not met. And for the price of the ticket, they should have been. And I've never seen a deal on the tickets, so the likelihood of my going back is pretty small. I did enjoy having a theater nearly to ourselves. If they got more comfortable seating, I would consider giving them another shot. But, if I want to sit in an office chair to watch a movie, I'll just take my iPad to work. read more

Our Town Cinemas is different than the regular movie theatre you're used to. But it fits PERFECTLY in Davidson, and we had a blast going to see Finding Dory here. Let me count the ways that it differs... 1) Screens. Our Town has four screens, and they're all a lot smaller than you're used to. Think home-projector size, maybe a bit bigger. 2) Seats. Wonderfully comfortable office chairs, complete with casters on the bottom. Also, because of the intimate size of the room and screen, there are substantially less seats than a normal theatre. Totally okay with this. 3) Food and Drink. Didn't order any food, but several people received their food during the movie and it smelled wonderful. Also, they actually have one of the best craft beer selections that I've seen out in quite a while. Really impressed. Also have a special brew that D9 makes just for them! 5) Previews. All ads and previews are of local businesses, which I loved. Was great to see Our Town supporting Their Town (bud dum chh) This was a wonderful alternative to a regular theatre, and really made the night special for us. The Lady and I are both pumped to come back for our next movie! read more

We finally made it to this place. My daughter and I went for an early showing of "Gatsby". Nice place. Cool set up. I was so comfy in the rolling chairs. The only thing missing was an ottoman. From what I saw, it's small inside. Small concession area that manages to stock beer/wine/specialty drinks along with standard movie eats. Small cozy theaters. It's what I imagine a real, small-town movie theater to be like in a REAL small town. Even with the the cheaper ticket price for an early seating, with refreshments, it was about $30 for the two of us to watch, eat, and drink. read more

What a concept. Really fun and you can have a beer or wine during the show. Have not eaten there but they say you can. We actually got a tour and we did not even ask for one, that was really nice. Would love to be able to purchase tickets online. Also they should let you know that drinks stopped being served after about 30 minutes into the movie. The beer selection at this cinema is nothing short of incredible. The proprietors pride themselves on unique microbrews from the local area/Southeast. Very impressive. Try the mini burritos, which the staff will bring to your table in the theatre. This is, by far, the most unique cinema experience I have ever had simply because of quality and service. Cheap? No. You get what you pay for. Memorable? Absolutely. Enjoyed a phenomenal afternoon with my 75 year old Dad who I have been watching movies with for 50 years. This theatre rocks!! Love this theater for its quaint feel, comfortable seating and good food (+ wine/beer). It is definitely a different experience than your average movie theater. It's great for a date night, kids, families. Due to the seating arrangements, it can be good for a large group, since you can move the seats around. It makes me very sad to write this review, for I've gone to Our Town Cinemas dozens of times prior to this afternoon. But I won't be returning. Today I arrived at 12:50 to see a 1:10 matinee showing of Dunkirk. It's a movie I've been waiting months to see, and it would have been the first movie I've seen in the theater since my 15 month old son was born. We have childcare until only 5 pm, so going to a movie involves missing time at work and using up precious hours of child care. It's not something to be undertaken lightly. Since I work at a nearby school and I planned to go to my office after the matinee showing, I had walked from my home to Our Town and I'd brought my messenger bag full of papers and books. When I walked into the theater today I was stopped (before even getting to the concession/ticket counter) and asked by a woman "Can I help you sir?" I thought this was an odd question, for I was simply putting away my phone in my messenger bag. I responded: "Hi, yes, I'm just putting something away before I come over to purchase a ticket." The woman responded: "We don't allow backpacks in the theater." So, I asked her what she'd like for me to do with it. She said: "Put it back in your car." I informed her that I had walked to the theater, and that I had nowhere to put it. She simply responded: "Oh, well, I'm very sorry." There was no offer to take my bag and place it in the manager's office, no offer to keep the bag behind the counter, no attempt to help resolve the situation in any way. Our Town Cinemas is located in a college town. A town where many of the faculty and staff walk to work and might well have a bag with them when they come to the theater. Moreover, my messenger bag is the same size as several of my wife's purses. Which leads me to wonder - do they not allow women to bring their purses into the theater? I also can't help but wonder if Our Town's managers realize that they are providing a disincentive for patrons to walk to their theater. This strikes me as extraordinarily unwise since they serve alcohol. Well, no matter. I won't be returning to Our Town Cinemas. Once my fifteen month old is ready to go to the theater, I'll be taking my wife and kids to see movies on the big screen at one of the corporate multiplexes. I'd prefer to spend my money with local merchants. But, if I'm going to get lousy, impersonal service at a local theater with tiny screens, then I'll just head to one of the multiplexes for lousy, impersonal service that at least comes with a large screen and a great sound system. read more

These are the kind of movie theaters that I love! We went there for the first time last week to catch a showing of Spider-Man: Homecoming and it was one of the best movie theater experiences we've ever had. We got there about an hour early because we weren't sure what the crowds would be like, but there weren't any! (I'd recommend at least 30 minutes before your movie so that you can get your choice of seats and get your food order in). Since we were there early, and no one else had arrived yet, it gave us a chance to take our time looking over the menu as it's extensive! Both the food and the drinks! Robert was amazing and let us sample some beers that he thought we would love (and we did, all of them!) and took the time to go over all the menu options and suggest crowd favorites. The food came quickly and it was all so delicious - we got the grilled cheese and the mac n' cheese bites, which we highly recommend. The theater itself was a perfect size, not too many people, and the chairs are quite comfortable. Overall, it was just a really great experience! If there's a movie we want to see and Our Town Cinemas is showing it, it'll be our first choice! Tips: Bring a sweater as I found it a little chilly. Also, if you plan to enjoy some beer there, the mini pitchers are a great value and you can purchase a second one ahead of time and pick it up during the movie when you're ready for it. read more

Usually when you go to a movie theater it is a bit cool. Regardless the time of year. You bring a light jacket, maybe a throw, even socks or slippers. The room is prepared for 80 to 100 pple and the body heat. I watched a man in shorts this past Saturday drape a throw over his legs. Every girl had a crochet cardigan and I even had a pair of slippers in case my feet got cold in my flip flops. As the movie played I noticed my husband struggling. The back of his shirt was completely wet. He told me he was just burning up. I felt fine at the time. This was about 30 mins into the movie. I then noticed the man in front of me sweating profusely through his hair. The other man had removed the throw. The two girls had removed their cardigans. People were waving their hands in front of their faces. About 2/3 of the way into the movie I then started feeling the effects of the still warm air in the theater. On top of that...so gross....pple were farting from the carbonated drinks and beer. It just lingered. Basically, this place needs air and fans. It was miserable. read more

This is a small theater that still charges less than $10 for a movie, so as far as I'm concerned it gets 5 stars automatically. Also, they serve beer, thus solidifying the 5 stars. When I was in line to buy a beer I was behind a guy with his young kid and I made a mental note to myself that if I ever have kids I'd want to come to a place like this to get buzzed enough so that I can at least not want to kill everyone while watching a kids' movie in a theater full of awful screaming children. This theater has a sort of weird seating set up, where instead of theater seats they have leather office chairs separated by bar tables, which effectively prevents any potential theater HJs and makes this a bad idea for groups smaller or larger than 2 people. I came here with a couple friends and it was hard for me to share my witty commentary with them, so that was pretty disappointing (for all of us, I'm sure). Also last summer I came here with a group of like 10 of us to see Toy Story 3 and I guess it's pointless anyway to see a movie with that many people, so whatever. (By the way did you guys know that movie was basically an allegory about the Holocaust? I can't be the only person who noticed that. That scene near the end when the toys were all about to be burned alive kind of sparked an existential crisis for me so that was also I'm sure fun for kids.) I saw Super 8 here the other day. That movie I would give probably 2 1/2 stars. The trailer tried to shroud this movie in mystery by showing only a train crash that these kids witness, and something (presumably a monster or alien) starting to pound its way out of a cargo container labeled "Air Force." Which makes you think this is a movie about a group of kids who witness a mysterious train crash that results in a monster/alien escaping from one of the cargo containers and the government probably trying to cover that up and the kids probably trying to help the monster/alien escape to safety, because knowing Spielberg is behind this the creature probably has a good heart. And that is EXACTLY WHAT THE MOVIE IS ABOUT. There is literally nothing I can add that is not a totally superfluous detail. This movie seems like it would be enjoyed by 12 year old boys or people who are nostalgic about having once been a 12 year old boy. Also, Dakota Fanning's younger sister is in this, and she is way hotter than Dakota Fanning. Before you whip your dick out and google her, she's like 12 years old (I do not remember anyone being that hot when I was 12 though). Some parts of this movie totally didn't make sense. Like, the main kid was supposed to save the day by giving the monster/alien this heartwarming speech. The kid's mom had just died in a horrible accident. So right before the monster/alien kills him or just ties him up (the movie never explains why it kidnaps people to tie them up...like is he using them for energy like the robots in the Matrix? Why do I have to figure this out for myself?), the kid says "I know bad things happen, but you still have to live. You have to live." OK, WTF. That kid is an asshole, because that heartwarming speech has NOTHING to do with the alien's situation. The alien just wants to stop being anally probed by the U.S. military and get the fuck back to its home planet. He does not give a fuck about some kid or his sob story about his mom being completely flattened in a construction accident (that seriously happened!). The kid's speech was really only applicable to his own situation, as if the alien's predicament of being held captive for a few decades and anally probed was NBD. THEN, and this is the most infuriatingly bewildering part, the kids escape from the alien and are outside when suddenly everything in the town that is made of metal starts floating in the air. The alien has somehow created a magnet powerful enough to attract anything metal, and these objects all come together to MAGICALLY form a spaceship. Like, old tvs, cars, spoons, street signs, etc. all cling together to create a spaceship that looks not like a pile of junk, but a fully functioning spaceship like it's the fucking Enterprise. WHY COULDN'T THE ALIEN JUST WHIP THIS SHIT UP EARLIER IF IT ONLY TAKES FIVE MINUTES? Also why are we supposed to root for the alien when the dude just stole all the town's VCRs and shit like he's looting during a riot? He even fucking took the kid's dead mother's necklace that he carried around with him since her death, probably because FUCK THAT KID. The alien didn't need that shit for his spaceship to fly, I mean I am not an aeronautical expert but I am pretty sure of that. He then takes off, destroying the town's water tower in his wake (which also probably flattened a few people). Fuck that alien, he is no E.T. I'm sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. Bottom line (at the top): this is a really small, theater that picks up food for you from Brickhouse (and then will bring it inside your theater) and has office chairs as the seating. The theaters are pretty small but also pretty empty so it all works out. read more

We love this small theatre.....Its cozy chairs and tables are very comfortable. If you prefer "theatre seating" there are sections to choose from as well......best of both worlds. You have a nice selection of snacks and foods, beverages and they even bring it right to your table !! Now this is service........... Coming from the Bay Area where the movie theatres are HUGE, parking is blocks away, lines for food are ridiculous and you feel shuffled in and shuffled out.................... This small neighborhood theatre is a true and refreshing delight, many wont realize what they have until its gone !!! Go and enjoy the show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

A wonderful experience in seeing movies. Great food selections and nice comfortable seating. When the number of times I was there, I asked a the employees about upcoming movie selections. Interestingly, they said the owners stir away from films that are a bit diverse in their orientation or films that are too "artsy" or films that can be about different walks of life. I have been told this same story over and over here. Very disappointing that in a town like Davidson we would hand select films because the subject matter does not align with the owners personal believes or feelings. I would think in this day and age we would want to be the place to see all types films, by all types of film makers. Sad. read more

We were very excited when Own Town first opened. It had swivel chairs, was cheaper than AMC or Regal, and had alcohol! However, their prices have gone up and I find their seating situation rather annoying. You sit in the faux leather executive-office chairs - which are very comfy. They also rock & swivel... cool, until you see 5 people in front of you aggressively rocking and bobbing their heads throughout the movie. Great concept, but it's tiny and for the price, I'd rather go to Birkdale where I can at least walk around and window shop after. read more
