Overall: 2 hours 30 minutes late and poor communication of said lateness. Booked a ride from NYC to Ithaca departing at 7 pm. Was notified at 7:20 that bus would be 90 minutes late via employee at bus stop. An hour later received an email that it would be an 1 hour 45 minutes late. At 9:10, with the employee gone, had to call customer service to find out we would have to wait another 20 minutes. Finally got on the bus 9:30, 2 hours and 30 minutes late. read more

If you care about your personal belongings, avoid OurBus! On September 21st I took a trip from New York City to Ithaca with OurBus, and the company lost my luggage. When I first went to the bus in NY, I was told my duffel bag, containing clothes, medication, an Ipad, toiletries, and a family memento would have to be put underneath the bus. When I arrived in Ithaca, my bag was nowhere to be found! I asked the bus driver what was going on, but she didn't seem to care in the slightest. She told me the compartment my bag was in was dropped off at an earlier stop. I'm a student and wasn't sure what to do in this scenario and she just shrugged, told me to call the company, and left me there without clothes or medication that I need! I've since spent almost a full week struggling to contact this company to get their help finding my bag, but they seem not to care in the slightest. It took hours upon hours on the phone with customer service before anyone even contacted the police or the bus station that my bag was dropped off at! I still don't have my bag and if the company had acted sooner then that may not be the case, but because of their laziness and lack of consideration for their customers my back is in the wind. read more

I've never taken a bus to NY and always hear horror stories from friends. I booked last minute on ourbus only because my friend recommended it and Y'ALL, believe the hype! It was an easy boarding experience: they email you your tickets after you book online; you get a water bottle; charging ports work; and you're off. I can't comment on bathrooms, but it's an easy ride with a few stops. They leave on time, you may or may not have to sit with someone, and you get to NY in one piece. The rates are competitive compared to bigger, more disorganized services. Overall, 5 stars to and from. I'm very content. read more

I took OurBus for the first time yesterday and loved it! Booking a ticket was so easy and it was the cheapest option to get to New York by far. It was great to be picked up in King of Prussia instead of needing to drive all the way into the city. The driver was on time and very safe. There was even free water and a bathroom! Bus service was TERRIFIC!!! (customers can always contact management and/or leave reviews when something is wrong so we should do the same when things are great) I purchased a ticket on their app and traveled yesterday 10/13/18 (11:30am from NY to DC at 4pm) and today 10/14/18 (at 10:00am from Washington, DC to New York, NY at 2:35pm.) They were ON TIME and the drivers were great. Especially the driver from DC to NY today. He was absolutely wonderful. Very courteous, helpful, spoke clearly, professional and a safe driver. (I also appreciate the fact he didn't freeze us out like bus drivers normally do.) Just ridiculous. LEAVE ON TIME. What started out good is now horrible bc the bus stopped for a late passenger who doesn't even have a ticket and is basically trying to SCAM his way in the bus. Great experience with this bus company on my NY to DC trip. The bus leaves from Port Authority and the ticket is clearly labeled with the gate number, so the bus was very easy to find (unlike other companies which give general street coordinates). When I showed up, there were 2 people waiting to greet/check tickets/assist with luggage, and both were extremely nice and eager to help. The bus was on time (waiting when I arrived), parked at the gate and waiting to go (again, not always my experience with other bus companies). The driver and helper put my luggage under the bus and directed me to the complimentary ice water. The bus left within 2 minutes of the time it was scheduled to depart. All in all, a really great experience for inter-city bus travel. P.SAlthough I didn't end up needing to use this service, i especially appreciated that the ticket was refundable and exchangeable at any time prior to departure. As for the worst: ~The most uncomfortable bus seats I have ever sat on ~No rest stops even though the ride was more than 5 hours long and there were elderly people and kids on board (maybe if the seats were just a little more cushioned we could have better endured it) ~Bus did not arrive to destination on time ~Had to request the free water (it was not simply offered). I really love this bus! Great customer service, smooth rides that are always on time, and a great app that lets you track and troubleshoot any ride. I've literally been waiting for a bus like this for a decade of shuttling back and forth from DC to NJ. With their Hamilton to DC route it has made those trips so much easier and affordable, so I take this bus all the time. The seats are more roomy than other buses. Today I had to cancel a ticket at the last minute because I misplaced my laptop and they quickly resolved my need to switch itineraries via their chat. An absolutely miserable excuse for a transportation company. At this point, WE'VE BEEN STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE JERSEY TURNPIKE IN THE DARK FOR MORE THAN 2 HOURS. No ETA on a replacement bus, waffling responses from their phone and online customer service. We've been told multiple stories, and groups of people have broken off and taken Uber's home. Clearly, this company has NO CONTINGENCY for a broken down bus. Now they're trying to tow an entire bus full of people to the nearest turnpike stop, which is questionably legal (see 49 CFR 392.63 - Towing or pushing loaded buses). After towing is several miles, they determined that they couldn't fix the bus. We were left to our own devices to walk in the dark and the cold to find food and restrooms, and nobody was checking to ensure that all the passengers came back. It was nearly another 3 hours before a replacement bus was located. That bus didn't have working heat in the back, but at least it didn't break down. We arrived in DC around 1 am, 5.5 hours behind schedule. I'll never take this company again. read more

I got a round trip from nyc to Binghamton for a decent price, and the service and ride was pretty good all things considered. HOWEVER, literally less than 12 hours before my return trip they just cancelled my trip because of "inclement weather" which makes no sense since it was a 10:30 am bus and the light snow storm was for 7pm later that night. Suffice it to say the fact that I didn't get a refund really irked me. I understand company policy that they don't give refunds when you cancel on them but when they cancel on you and all they offer is company currency (which I haven't received) is just bad business. read more

Unreliable. It took 6.5 hours to get from NYC to DC, when it said it would take less than 5 hours. I would understand if there was major traffic, but the reason we arrived so late is because of a long stop to switch drivers. Really frustrating experience. read more

This was a great bus experience. Other may have complained about tardiness but our bus arrived right on time. Although the Tracking service is off so do not trust it. The bus was comfortable had WiFi for browsing (not streaming), power outlets, and water. The driver was friendly. They turned off the light because it was late. read more

The worst experience of my life. Spent 12 hours (what should have been a 5-hour drive) on the bus due to a sequence of driver's mistakes, dispatcher's incompetence or complete absence in terms of decision making. Bad news. More to that- we never made it to NY but instead turned back to DC. 12 hours of complete waste of my time that ended up in a ruined weekend. Response to Alex: I appreciate your response and explanation, but I wish it was true. I was constantly talking to the driver and We, the passengers, were requesting the relief driver, so we could continue our trip to nyc. But nothing happened. Route 95 wasn't the only way for us to proceed. With the help of a tow truck, we got back on the road at 3:30-3:40am, and were on our way back to DC. Now, the route 40 was open at 3:30am! We got back to DC at 5am! I saw not even single representative from Ourbus offering a trip to NY. You completely ruined my weekend as I had to attend an important event. Eventually, I couldn't find any bus/train tickets as they were completely sold out. So I greatly appreciate your response, Alex, but it was US who tried our best to find ways to go to NY by calling Maryland police and 511 to gather the right information, as the driver wasn't quite aware of what was happening. It was the company, who should have arranged the travel for us to Ny. There's no argument about an unprecedented event, and weather conditions (that's why we were all understanding and cooperative) - I question your decision-making and how you handled it. Ourbus cancelled my return ticket out of the blue three days before the travel date. No one from the company apologized, they apparently cancelled the entire route on Jan 16 and were unwilling to honor tickets for that route on Jan 19. I am now stuck in a city - without a place to stay - scrambling to find a way to get back home. If you're looking at Ourbus because it's cheaper or more convenient, just go with the real companies (greyhound, MegaBus, etc.). Ourbus management haven't really figured out how to run a business just yet. read more

I do NOT recommend this company. I had a ticket for the 8:40pm bus from D.C. to NY GWB with a stop in New Brunswick. The trip started off with extreme confusion due to the driver not letting us board until 8:55 and bringing people on who were scheduled for the 9:00 bus only to kick them off again. A worker at union station told me that the late start was because the driver was on board, sleeping. It was a little annoying, but no big deal. He seemed nice and we were on our way. I dozed off on the bus only to wake up and find the bus driver doing the same! Either that or he was extremely impaired. The bus swerved in, out, and between lanes at random. If we weren't the only car on the road, we surely would have crashed. Furthermore, the driver swerved OFF THE ROAD onto the shoulder at least 8 times! He would only correct after being startled by the noise the grooves in the road make when a car strays too far off. I went up to the front twice to ask if he was ok and why he was driving recklessly and to maybe blast the AC if it would wake him up. His driving did not improve and I felt so unsafe and in danger that I got off the bus in New Brunswick at 1am and secured alternate travel to my final destination, which was supposed to be New York George Washington Bridge. Never have I ever feared for my life while traveling until tonight. The reckless driving of this driver terrified me to the point where I was shaking in my seat and actually got off in the middle of the night in some strange city rather than risk crashing another second on that bus. I will never, EVER ride OurBus again and I will make sure my family, friends, coworkers-- anyone who values safety-- will do the same. I took OurBus from New York to Washington DC the night before Thanksgiving. Because of the holiday rush, I kind of expected the trip to be a mess, but it was surprisingly trouble free. The driver was friendly, the ride smooth and timely, and I lazed in comfort for the 4.5 hour journey, thanks to power outlets, decent wifi, a clean bathroom, and complementary water bottles provided to each passenger. Plus OurBus offers some of the cheapest tickets around -- I'll definitely be riding OurBus again on my future trips. read more

I took OurBus round trip to DC and it was a better experience than other budget bus companies that I've used. There were delays on the way due to traffic, which, to be honest, should be expected. The bus was fine, the driver was fine, there was no internet on the way but there was really good internet on the way back. I was able to stream a tv show. Easily the best bus internet service I've ever had on a bus. The location for the pickup was changed. I got several emails and texts reminding me of this fact. I got a photo of the bus. Prior to taking this trip, I asked a question about the OurBus refund policy that was deleted, so I will answer the question here for you. I was unable to make my bus back. I wanted it cancel it a few hours beforehand and book another bus, but it was too late. You need to cancel it 24 hours or more before the trip. There was no way to just reschedule my bus (hence the loss of one star). Instead, I had to contact them after I missed the bus in order to get a credit that I could use towards a bus the next morning. I believe that you need to contact them during the time that you would be on the bus but I'm not sure. Contact them via chat instead of email. Chat is very fast, email is very slow. Recently, I took a roundtrip from DC to NY/NJ for my grandparents' 65 anniversary. OurBus was the perfect choice. Its prices and services are far superior to other traditional bus companies such as GreyHound or Boltbus. The ride came complete with complementary onboard wifi, water bottles, large storage space for luggage, overhead storage, and bathrooms! As a tall person, the leg room was also above standards (and the seats also reclined back for a comfortable ride)! The drivers were also very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that everyone was comfortable throughout the trip. The drive to the final destination took around 4.5 hours. I will certainly be using this whenever I visit again. Overall, I definitely recommend OurBus as an affordable and reliable service for anyone travelling between DC and NY/NJ for family, work, or adventure! read more

My bus ticket for 11/27/22 was canceled after I booked tickets for 12/13/22 and 1/17/23. Reached out for customer support in the live chat and the experience was EXTREMELY LENGTHY and AWFUL. They took 35 mins to look into the details using my reference number and another 60+ mins only to tell me I have to bear the 4x difference in price to rebook for that date. This is absolutely ridiculous. It might have been some errors in the system but it's just insane they were telling me I have to make up for this. Apparently I'm not supposed to book more bus for my future trips?? Customer representative Noor literally took at least 10 mins between each of his texts when I replied immediately. I had to constantly ask "are you still there?" to ensure I was not ghosted, which I eventually was at the end. Did I mention towards the end he just began to copy and paste the same things to me over and over again and telling me to call the customer service number? As a college student who has traveled a lot between Binghamton and NYC, frequenting Greyhound, Megabus, and Shortline, Ourbus is definitely my top choice. My 18 years old son who is at NYU traveled to Cornel from Friday- Sunday. This bus company lost his luggage on this trip from NYC to Ithaca. Claiming that it was dropped in different station on the road by mistake. After they did not allow him to take the fancy bag on board and took it for him to place it in outside compartment. They keep telling my son to check with lost and found dept. who never answered him. They just Left him in Ithaca with no cloths no personal stuff no lab top and NO medication for 3 days. As the driver told him "I can't do anything just call the station" What a bad service unprofessional, unethical, taking advantage of young students!!!! I am 51 years old. Traveled so many times on buses this never happened to me or anyone I know. I am waiting for a response early Monday morning with high executive person on this company. Had a pretty bad experience from Ithaca to NYC: - no free water as advertised in the tickets: we three people had to survive on a single 500 ml bottle for a 5 hour long journey. - wifi doesn't have any internet connection in more than half of the route. - charging ports don't work - tested it on the two different seats but none of them worked. Why claim all such amenities when you have none? My humble request is to remove them asap so that the customers can better equip themselves and avoid this torture. read more

I traveled to DC and the journey was perfect. From the bus being on time, to the driver greeting us, getting a free bottle of water, clean bus and good wifi. Oh yes, the washrooms were clean too. Our Bus review: First and foremost the trip started off bad! The driver did not greet us. He came off the bus saying "you're late" mind you it was 7:30am and the bus didn't leave until 7:35am. Now being a driver or better yet a human you would think that you could be courteous to know things happen! Late is to be miss something so since the bus was still parked and doors open, I was considered tardy. While me and my sister were checked in and getting on the bus another woman walked up. Again, the driver greeted her the same was with his signature "you're late" line. He and the lady spoke briefly for about 30 seconds then he got on the bus and made a call. As he was calling what appeared to be his supervisor, he began pulling out of the lot. He stated to the person on the phone that he had given the lady two minutes to call her other travel companions then he proceeded to leave. That was a false statement. From the side of the conversation that I witness he told the woman she was late she began to explain she knew she was late and that she had other people coming up now for a taxi. Now as we were leaving the lot those people she was waiting for was coming in. The driver then reported to the supervisor that he had left the lot and was on the highway but that was a white lie we had left the lot but we were on 8th street pulling out of the lot. Now mind you, I have never ridden a bus before; this will be the last time. I feel like cheaper is not always better so the train will be my go to next time! I did notice we stopped to pick up more people in Colombia. I am surprised we had room for more people. It makes me wonder if the bus was over sold due to us not waiting for the people at the first lot then picking up three more at a bus stop. I did not read that there would be another stop when I purchased my ticket. Overall the bus was clean for what I could see! It did not smell! If your looking for a cup a rude to go with you're breakfast then this is for you! If you're looking for excitement with your travel with some hospitality then this is not for you! Absolute terrible service. Got a bus from DC to NYC on Friday 8/11/17. Departed on time at 11AM and did not reach NYC until 5PM, was scheduled to arrive at 3:30PM. Granted the bus did CRASH on our way to our destination, the driver would not give us any information on our delay and police would not let us off the couch. Myself and many other passengers missed connections to other coaches and airports. Never again. read more

This is my second time using Ourbus. We use it to take our son back and forth from Ithaca for school. The first time he took it, the WIFI didn't work. Otherwise it was a good ride and it came in early. The second time, it was at the end of Thanksgiving Weekend when he was supposed to return to school on a Sunday where snowstorms were threatening on the route back. We kept checking to see if there would be a problem, since some other bus companies were already canceling their buses by the day before. Ourbus kept saying they were still running, even up to the time we left the house for the terminal. Lo and behold, after our 1 hour drive to Port Authority, my son goes and and while I'm waiting outside, he calls me to tell me it was canceled! He found out they emailed and texted him just about 10 minutes before to tell him about the cancellation! After trying with all the other bus companies and failing to get another seat, we returned home after 3 hours of driving and running around to find another bus. Couldn't they have canceled several hours before? Some of the other companies canceled the day before, thus giving people a chance to figure out alternatives. Ourbus gave us 20 minutes! So of course we couldn't get seats that night or even the next two days. This is terrible customer service and bad policy! Update- After getting off the phone with them and complaining, their customer service team in India told me that because they are brokers, they can't control the policies of the bus companies that they use. I told them that they need to change this and if the bus companies they use can't give at least long enough notice, they should drop them. read more

I had no problems arranging a trip for our college student to travel from our home in VA to his friend's place in NJ. The most economical way was to have him ride the train from VA to D.C. and then from there hop on the OurBus (very inexpensive, by the way) to his final destination. However, when we arrived at the train station we learned that his train was delayed by two hours which, of course, created an unfortunate domino effect. Basically, our student would be missing his OurBus trip to NJ and there was not another bus going there. So we made last minute arrangements for him to arrive there with another service. My one gripe, really, is that the company's missed bus policy is somewhat unforgiving when it comes to people in our situation in which a train delay caused the missing of the bus. They kindly offered a credit for our next trip but we know that we would not be doing this again, certainly not within the two months for which the credit was good. $18.00 is not worth getting all bunched up about but the company would not budge. I guess that's how business is done. So, in terms of ease of online arrangements, good job; as for a more forgiving policy, not-so-much. So $18.00 down the drain... and if there were to be future trips like this, it will most certainly be with another service. I hope the paid-for-empty sit enjoyed it's trip! read more
