After digging to get access to the leak(s) he showed me the problem and we discussed the options. After 27 years it rapidly became obvious that rebuilding the manifold/valve part of the system with new materials would be the best long term solution. He replaced all of the original (6) valves with new Rainbird PGA valves and new piping. After getting the wiring to the solenoids finished it was time to test and everything is leak free and working perfectly! His pricing is very fair and he was open and honest in his assements and recommendations. When the work was finally completed, we were left with no grass, no flowers and no plants - pretty much a barren wasteland that looked horrible. As we put the word out to landscape designers, we started to get contacted by several companies wanting to quote the work. Steve from S & L was the first to respond. He was punctual and professional at the estimate appointment, COMPLETELY understood the assignment as we described what we wanted and provided a very reasonable quote for the work we requested (he even provided us with a thorough sketch of our vision the very next day!) This was a marked difference from the other companies - some wanted to charge us just for their plan (!), some had to be chased down for a follow up, some missed their scheduled appointments and others were ridiculously high with their estimates. Throughout the planting/installation process, Steve and his team were in constant communication with us, asking us to check their progress as we moved forward so that we were all on the same page (even offering GREAT suggestions). My wife and I could not be happier with the results. We have a beautiful lawn of new sod, several beds of native Florida plants and trees and dramatic uplighting that makes our home look like it was photographed by House and Garden. Two separate key (to me) points: - they take Zelle (no 3% add on and no fiddling with checks) - they were going to be late and texted, provided an ETA, and texted when they were on their way. That alone gets very high marks from me. I pay them right away and they get their money in a timely fashion. Finally, I got a note from saying Ezekiel had been in the area and cleaned my backflow filter (picture - no charge). Texted back that i had the old style backflow. He communicated very well exactly when he would be here and he let me know when he was heading my way. When he got here, I had 3 different jobs for him and he knocked them out in 1/3 of the time it would have taken me. I usually do all my own sprinkler repair but these few things seemed like a pain in the butt for me to do and he knocked them out quickly and did an excellent job. I walked around with him and watched what all he was doing and he did everything perfect. He said he's been doing this for 20 years and it shows. Our yard was unsaveable and the HOA was breathing down our necks. We bit the bullet and got 3…read moreestimates to have the old sod removed and new sod replaced. We chose Madewell because they were reasonably priced and didn't try to BS us like the other two. Not sure why some contractors think eveyone is ignorant just because they dont want to be bothered with doing the job themselves. We did our homework. This was a 3 stage process. Stage one...spay and kill off the the old grass and weeds. Stage 2...the next week they removed all the old dead grass and weeds. Stage 3...laying of the new sod, which actually happened over a month later because of COVID-19 and waiting for good healthy sod. They also adjusted all the sprinklers if needed to make sure there was adequate coverage. The sod was delivered from the sod company and looked beautiful and healthy. We watered for 30 min, 2x a day for a month. Our lawn is absolutely beautiful and healthy and by week 3 had already taken to the soul. We get compliments all the time. My neighbors are probably just happy not be looking at a dirt yard any longer. Things that I found issue with along the way: clean-up wasn't as good as I would have liked, but I am very particular; and communication was not the best. Despite that, I couldn't be happier with the end result.
