I think those were just OK but a good appetizer. I ordered the pastrami sandwich upon the waitress recommendation and it was very good. I got a side salad and tried both their homemade ranch and homemade blue cheese. Our table also ordered the veggie omelette with a side of hash, brown and flapjack. Those flapjacks were the best pancakes! The portions are huge so we had leftovers to take with us. The price was really good for the portions. We've been a customer for 30 years and always look forward when in town. The past 3 times over 7 months food has had to be returned. Today my husband ordered a BLT, the bread was barely toasted and applewood bacon which the menu didn't post. We waited 20 min for my salad and bread came 30 minutes later. This is a hidden gem in the high desert! I had the New York steak and eggs and my wife had the tuna sandwich. Let me tell you... the steak was well seasoned and a thick cut, it was fantastic and highly recommended. For a road side cafe, this place is great. They have lots of good counter seating and booths. The food is good for diner style dining. The severs are very friendly. And the waffle pancakes and steak were all tasty! Eggs were really good! Definitely better quality compared to most restaurant eggs! Darker yokes and no ammonia flavor or smell. Bathroom was clean! Restaurant is cute inside lots of things to notice and check out! Anyone who serves cholula with breakfast knows what a good egg will be! Sorry Tabasco lovers you can keep your Tabasco! We drove 30 miles to eat breakfast here based on the Eater LA article we read. We're glad we did. The service was professional, but not necessarily friendly which is just fine with us. First off, the food was good and the portions generous. My wife had the pork chops and eggs. She says the pork chops were "tasty goody", the eggs were cooked perfectly and the tomato slices were fantastic. It was like they gave her the whole tomato. Grits were hot and perfect. I had the Roadkill Omelette with hash browns along with a biscuit and gravy. I found the food to be a little salty for my taste, but it all tasted good. The Roadkill omelet was very meaty. The hash browns were delivered crispy as they should be. The gravy was spectacular. Like I said it was all a little salty though. As a coffee snob and aficionado please consider this high praise at a 6 out of 10. In the last 7 years I have had coffee from all over world. This coffee was good. Slightly stronger or maybe a more coarse grind would help. Our cups never ran dry. $37.78 for 2 breakfasts was on the high side. The portion sizes mostly made up up for the pricing however. We were heading home after our camping trip at Silverwood Lake campground and found this place. We decided to go here after reading a couple reviews and I was not disappointed at all! As busy as it was, the service was good and the food was good as well. The menu is very extensive (I should have taken pictures of it) with all kinds of choices. Reasonable prices for the amount do food. I ate a pastrami sandwich and wow, perhaps it's the best pastrami sandwich I've had in a long time. Taste was good, the bread which I chose french roll vs the other bread option which was sourdough, it was delicious. For the side I opted for french fries. They were crispy and paired well with a side of ranch to dip them in. I would totally recommend this place to stop by and have good food. The restaurant had a delightful ambiance as well. After eating here, I now ask why have we not eaten here during the 29 years that we've lived in the High Desert. Now that we're in the process of leaving the desert, I finally decided to give them a visit. With a little bit of research, I knew I wanted the juicy Lucy, but as I browsed through the menu, it was not there. So when our excellent server Laurie greeted us, I asked about the juicy Lucy and she confirmed that they did take it off the menu, but she was certain the chef would not have a problem making it and I'm glad he did. It was juicy, full of flavor, tons of meat cooked to a perfect medium rare and delicious homemade onion rings to accompany it. Also their salad dressings, such as their ranch and blue cheese all homemade and delicious. As I said earlier, our server Laurie who was excellent made our first visit the best experience ever and sad that we'd probably have to wait for Vegas trips to be able to visit here again. She is a true pro. Handled the entire restaurant single handedly. Very friendly and very welcoming to everyone. All I can say is I'll return whenever possible but I truly missed out on all the possible opportunities during the 29 years that we lived in the HD. read more
