Nothing fancy, but solid location! My husband, mom, and dad stayed at the Outrigger Beach Resort for 3 nights while on Estero Island for the first time. We chose to stay in an efficiency unit, so we weren't expecting much. Our unit was fairly small with 2 beds, a full (but small) kitchen, and a decent-sized bathroom. It was all we needed, as we knew we weren't going to spend much time in the unit. The Outrigger is located right on the beach, so you walk out your door and you're on one of the biggest stretches of powdery sandy beach that I have ever seen. There's a restaurant and bar on-site with live music at night and they have a volleyball net, beach chairs to rent, and other water toys to rent or borrow. Additionally, this spot is less than a mile walking distance from a stretch of restaurants and shops, plus sidewalks to walk for days! You could walk all the way to the Fort Myer's Pier if you wanted to (which we did - about a ~4 mile walk). Like I said, the room wasn't much, but the location is great! read more

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Outrigger Beach Resort. We loved everything about this wonderful place! The front desk staff is super attentive, professional and kind, the ladies that work at the restaurant are absolutely wonderful! The food was delicious. The property is very well kept. The bed is super comfortable. We loved having our coffee and juice before heading to the beach which is only steps away. We also truly enjoyed coming out of the water and having our lunch under a tiki hut which sheltered us from the glorious sun! We enjoyed our time so much that we extended our vacation an extra night and the staff was very accommodating and made it happen! As a matter of fact, we have already booked a few more nights the second week of September because we can't wait until next year to enjoy a few more days in paradise! Pro tip: they have free parking on site. They are also only a few miles from a small downtown which is lots of fun. There are some parking spots under the second story but they are only for compact cars. read more

Until today I was a big fan of "The Outrigger". May it be influenced by the Pandemic. Hurricanes, or whatever. I need to correct my super positive reviews from 2017 and 2018. The Hotel is a pure construction Area. There was construction when we were here in 2017 and 2018 (including the Red Tide issue that year that could not be influenced by anybody, of course.....) The renovated rooms are nice and neat and clean. No complaining about that at all.... Regarding the food I need to say we now have a diverse view. Breakfast offering hased changed to the worse. There might be much better places now. Evening Snacks were quite ok. Would I book again here? Yes. As soon as this permanent construction ends. read more

PROS: The location on the beach is, of course, perfect. The tiki bar is great - wish it opened up to the sand! The huge deck area is fantastic and has a good mix of tables with umbrellas and lounge chairs for sunning. Staff are all super friendly! Charley's Boathouse across the street has a great salad bar for me and lots of (pricey) flesh and fish for the man. The live music on the deck is great and everybody comes down for sunset on the beach, making it a cool group event. The thatched roofs on the table umbrellas and over the bar look to be real thatch and they're beautifully made. CONS: Sheets are kind of rough, they should upgrade. Water pressure in our bathroom was low. Mixed drinks at the bar include just a whiff of alcohol, so we stuck to straight whiskey and beer. The unending construction along Estero Blvd continues, but nothing Outrigger can do about that. Breakfast is fine but other food at the Deckside Cafe is mediocre. OVERALL: Like most of the old hotels along FMB, the Outrigger is a tad faded and not fancy, but that is part of the charm of FMB! We enjoyed our four day stay and would definitely stay here again. read more

This place is beautiful but It is very poorly run. We went to have breakfast at the Deckside restaurant. The tiki tables outside were packed with people. Had to be about 200 people waiting to get served. My hubby and I went inside to sit down and were there no joke for 40 minutes no server. They only had 2 servers for all the people outside and us inside. We got up and left. This place really doesn't care about its customers. They needed more servers. Servers were way overwhelmed. If this place cared about its employees and customers they would employ more than 2 servers especially at the height of snowbird season! read more

Full disclosure-this review is 9 months late, but as I begin to plan a return trip, I realized that I had never ever shared what a great time we had at the Outrigger in October 2020! The things I liked won't have changed much so I am posting! First off, loved the huge deck in the middle of the resort that is a great meet up and hang out place if you are traveling with a group like we were. It's also a nice place to eat after grabbing a bite just a few steps away at the Deckside Cafe. Rooms were bright, light, clean, well appointed with fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. We opted out of a beach or pool view but since we spent our time actually ON the beach or IN the pool, it didn't matter! Pool and poolside Tiki Bar made for some great afternoon fun. Pool was clean and during the week not crowded. Tiki Bar had daily app and drink specials. We stayed on the side overlooking a row of Garden Efficiencies, little stand-alone houses, which looked like they would be a nice place for families to stay. Loved the convenient, spacious self-parking in the brick courtyard in the middle of the property, easy in and out and secure. Wide-open access to the beach - morning walks before everyone else started their day were the best! Staff in all areas were friendly, helpful and professional. read more

Overall pretty good. We waited a couple of hours to get our room and then it was the wrong room, BUT they corrected it and all was well. GREAT location close to the beach and close to Pinchers bar. You can jet ski about a 5 minute walk away. One of the only places in the area with 2 beds and a pullout couch. Would definitely go again. read more

I stayed at the Outrigger this past weekend. I admit, this place grew on me the longer I stayed there. The room was very clean and although this hotel is on the older side, the room seemed potentially renovated. I also liked the towel swans and shaped seashells. One thing that annoyed me with the room was that sunlight crept through the creases in the shutters that covered the windows (there are no curtains). Another gripe that I have is that I booked a "room with a view". Now, when you book a hotel that is a beach front property and you select an option for "a room with a view", what do you think you're getting? I like most people would think that means a beach-front, ocean/gulf view room. So what did I actually get? A room that faced the property and could not see the beach at all. The receptionist when I checked in even acknowledged this when I checked in, as though she's had to explain this to people before. That was a flag, and was disappointing. The staff here are all friendly. There's a restaurant on site, and the food there isn't bad. I had stuffed french toast one morning, and the coconut shrimp meal for lunch another day. The shrimp meal was really good. The tiki bar on site provides all of your beverage needs but it closes at 10pm. Like really?! I was disappointed by this as I wanted to turn up a bit, but honestly everything in Fort Myers seems to close early. On one hand, this wasn't a bad thing because it made for a relaxing and quiet vacay. The beach is great with the cabanas that cost $20 to reserve for the day, however there are a lot of cigarette buts in the sand which was gross. Outside of that, the beach is great. There's also a pool on site if you don't want to swim in the beach. I can't complain too much about the Outrigger, but with some additional reservations on the hotel it would be even better. The elevator sounded like it was going to break down at any minute. I held my breath every time I was on it. read more

They give you a parking pass when you stay here but if you leave and come back in the day and all the spaces are gone and more than 15 cars in the parking lot don't have parking passes, I'm not sure if they're employees or not but if so they should be parking across the street over paying customers staying here. Side note if you didn't pay to stay here and want free beach parking outrigger beach resort is the place ! They have someone sitting at the front checking who he feels but with the amount of cars inside parked with no passes just come on in you're clearly welcomed. We have come here many times, it's a daily stop on our vacation, usually absolutely love this place. This year the service has been horrible. As I write this, we have been sitting here for 2 hours and still no food. Wasn't even busy when we got here we probably sat there almost an hour before a server came to our table. Been about the same way all week. It's been the talk of the whole beach from all the people we know that come every year. I'm giving stars because the drinks and food are great! read more

Another day in paradise at Outriggers Tiki Bar and Cafe last Friday. We were there for drinks, dinner and the breathtaking sunsets. Sharon our server at the table made us feel very comfortable with the safety precautions she adhered to while serving us - Jimmy our bartender as well. We get our usual favorites off the menu. This place was great. We were so happy that we chose to stay here. We stayed at the Outrigger for our 40th anniverary/second honemoon and we seriously enjoyed it a ton. This was the cleanest room we can remember staying in. The management rude about me asking if I could bring my emotional support animal ( a very small dog). They said they only allowed service animals. I am currently on disability for mental illness and have my emotional support dog for severe anxiety reasons. He helps calm me down. The plane ride was horrible due to not having him with me. I will definitely be staying somewhere else that is more understanding and accommodating to people with emotional/mental issues. read more

The Tiki bar was amazing and the entire staff deserves a 5 star. Debbie, Erin, Kevin and Jamie took care of us the entire stay. They all had amazing customer service and patients considering the long lines and all the drinks they blend. The actual on site restaurant was terrible. We could never get any service. The same two ladies were always serving outside on the deck. They were very unapproachable and unfriendly. They needed a busier and a 3 waitress at a minimum. I would never stay here again for the money it is not worth it. The rooms were not worth the $300 plus. We had zero water pressure in the showers. The Deckside Cafe and manager Roxie. She was extremely disrespectful and rude to my 19 year old daughter. I would rate her a negative 5. My daughter went in to buy an ice cream sandwich and Roxie asked her where she ate dinner. Still wondering why that mattered! Roxie told my daughter it was not her job to get my daughter an ice cream sandwich. Interesting enough I went into talk to Roxie but she walked away to drop off food and never came back in. She unprofessionally complained about me to two separate customers, one at the Tiki bar and one at a table. Interesting enough another couple I spoke with at the bar had ordered ahead and paid for pizza for their kids and got a call from their 14 year about how rude Roxie was to them. Maybe Roxie doesn't like her job, maybe she doesn't like kids. She clearly is unhappy and definitely in the wrong job. Earlier in the week I watched 3 women walk out and complain they couldn't get any staff to make eye contact or acknowledge them when they went into the Deckside Cafe. We spent a lot of time in the area. The tables never got cleared in a timely fashion and customers were constantly trying to flag staff down for help. The staff always came across unhappy and rushed. The gentleman hotel manager came and offered to make things right and apologized up and down for how rude Roxie was to my daughter and to me. We spent a great deal of money over 5 nights and six days. I will not ever stay at this resort again. I will not ever go to the Deckside Cafe again- BUT I will definitely go to the Tiki bar because that staff was amazing. We spent a ton of time on the beach, went parasailing. That group was amazing and worth every penny. We rented bikes because the traffic was terrible and an Uber or taxi was close to impossible. Great farmers markets and plenty of things to do. There are plenty of less expensive nicer places to stay in the area especially if you are a planner. Publix and 7-11 close by. The resort was definitely not worth the money. Extremely over priced. I paid over $1700 for 5 nights. Definitely will look into several other options from what we saw and word of mouth. We were in a room with two queen beds. Very small and with COVID it was only cleaned one day. We had to put towels and garbage out side to get clean towels and garbage dumped. Finally called to get clean linen and floor swept. Floor was extremely slippery from the sand. During my stay they only had karaoke and that was definitely hit or miss on actual talent. Other places within walking distance had better food, music and later hours. The gentleman manager of the resort and all the people we encountered at the resort front desk and cleaning staff were friendly and nice. Unfortunately Roxie and the lack of water pressure was enough for me to give this place a a negative review. read more

Erin, Luke, Jimbo and Ray are great bartenders. Good food, cold drinks, delicious cocktails and fun environment. Well. Fun until the fun police (oops, manager Jimmy) come. This guy has consistently harassed not just myself and my family but also other patron at the bar. No dogs, and don't dare slip a curse word. We booked this place based on the reviews and the facebook page. Here are some things they don't tell you. The tiki bar that they push so hard is only open from noon till 830 pm. Great if your asleep at 9 on vacation. The rooms are a step below a Motel 6. In Florida you obviously need an air conditioner. Our wall unit was so old every time it came on it smelled of vinegar and would wake everybody up. It also set off the smoke detector the first day. The bathroom fan sounds like a plane taking off. We can also hear both neighbors bathroom fan eveeytime it comes on and off. One window screen is hanging off, the "full size kitchen" is not even close. The "remodeled rooms" would make Don Ho proud. Remodeled in the 70s. Also, double beds. The staff is very nice, the restaurant is about average, but has a pretty extensive menu. The life music is from 5pm-8pm during the week and 3-6 on the weekends. Music style ranges from ACDC to aspca commercials. We parasailed and our boat captain told us what I wish somebody else had. Your grandparents live in Sarasota and their parents live in Fort Myers Beach. Also, you HAVE to have a car here. Uber and lyft are often unavailable. The one road through town takes 2 hours to go about 4 miles every day starting around 9 am till about 9 pm. The pool is clean and heated, probably the best part of the motel itself besides rhe location on the Beach. Its too far to walk into town, but if you plan on just staying in one spot. Its fine. The pictures on the website are not indicative of the room we were in, and we paid and extra $40 per night for an upgrade. Complete waste of money. I think this place would be perfect if you have little kids, or are older. It reminds me of rooms around theme parks, kind of trashed. But if you have kids you kind of expect it. We met a lot of midwesterners who have been coming here for 30 years, all I can say is they probably haven't been anywhere else! read more

We had selected this hotel in early March for Memorial Day weekend and when the Covid Lockdown hit we thought we weren't gonna be able to go. They reopened the weekend prior to Memorial. I'm sure glad they did. We arrived early Friday May 22nd and asked if we could check in early. The reservation clerk said we can go have lunch and our room would be ready. We walked over to the tiki bar area and server Jaimee really made us feel at home while we chose our lunch and waited for our room. Great food. We went back to the office and sure enough our room was ready, we changed and went to the beach. Our other friend couples got there shortly after ands received same treatment!! No music AT ALL after 9pm at tiki bar, or deck. No place to sit for morning coffee or view, 2 small plastic chairs on a very narrow catwalk with a high railing was our view, and no daytime sunlight on our building walkway. The closest outside table was the main deck area in the far distance. Beds were stiff and undersized, not for two adults, barely one. No elevator for 2nd Floor. No plastic cups in pool area. Staff was not friendly and oppressive. The manager and staff threatened to evict customers without refund for any plastic cups or any liquids or food in pool area, it was oppressive and belittling!! Check your bill thoroughly, we were charged extra and taxed for two nights for a cot we returned after 1st night. Good hotel with no frills. Room was very clean. Staff does an excellent job with keeping the grounds tidy. Tiki bar is fun, bartenders and servers are friendly and fast. Cafe food is ok coffee is terrible. The pool is ok nothing spectacular about it.. it's heated so that's a plus. The beach is huge so no worries about it ever being too packed. If your staying on Estero Blvd get ready for traffic.. about an hour to get to bridge from this hotel during the busy hours. Charley's Boat House restaurant across the street is great. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I saw 2 cockroaches oh palmetto bugs lol in the room. It's Florida so bound to happen. read more

On the positive this place has a nice view of the water! To call this place a resort is laughable! They have no resort type amenities. It's a very old neighborhood outdoor dive bar that has old worn out rooms decorated in the 80's to crash in. The buildings were actually starting to crumble so they had crews jackhammering all day. You couldn't even go back to your room mid day to rest and maybe watch a little TV the noise was so loud. The television actually surprised me. I didn't think it was possible for a flat panel TV to have that bad of a picture! The bed is almost as comfortable as sleeping in the back of a van and the sheets as soft as burlap. If you have small children that you want to bring with you, think twice. The railings seem unsafe and the rungs are so far apart I don't think they were up to code in the 1980's. There are stains on the carpets and the AC makes a good bit of noise. This place has major "Get Out" vibes... gay edition. So my boyfriend and I were not greeted upon walking in or even looked at by the 2 front desk people. After awkwardly introducing ourselves first and explaining we had a room booked, we then then were homophobicly and embarrassingly asked repeatedly if we were twins, brothers, or "just friends" despite sharing a 1 bedroom room with a singular king sized bed. After telling them no, we were then forced to sign a "no fun policy" form that the manager of the hotel printed out for us and attempted to force us to sign. My boyfriend (who is 20) was then told by the manager that would "get his ass beat" if he tried to went to the tiki bar and tried to drink any alcohol. This establishment made it extremely clear that they refuse to serve homosexual couples and will intentionally get them to get a refund. Weirdest experience of my life. read more

Very nice views of the sunset. Right on the beach. Nice tiki bar. Internet pictures of the rooms are deceiving. Rooms are small and nothing special not like a resort in anyway. Floors are terrazzo, which is a big turn off. Our frig was broke the came and gave a new one pretty fast. Stove and frig are very small. Our room was by the pool so it was so loud very difficult to get kids to sleep. The ac is alway extremely loud. No top latch on the doors so kids can walk right out. Beds are high off the ground. Not too kid friendly. Pool was just an average pool, but they did have towels out there for guests. The deck side cafe is not good waited about and hour for our food and it was very cold. read more

There is no deadbolt or safety lock on the room door. Only the card key. As a single traveler, not a safe place to stay. When I ordered breakfast the next morning the server piled all the little packet of jelly, butter, ketchup ON TOP of the food, and served it to me that way! I was tempted to call the health department. How many hands had been in the buckets of those condiments, and now all those germs were on the food I was served; yuk! The beach had a terrible sewer odor, wouldn't even put my feet in. The front desk, the bartender, and most of the servers bordered on being rude, they certainly were not inviting or welcoming. I felt like I was not wanted . And then to add insult to injury; I left some jewelry in the room, they found it and mailed it, but didn't pack it well and it all got eaten up in the postal machine. They did not insure it, and now $500 in jewelry is gone. Terrible place, horrible memories. read more

Full disclosure - this review is for the Tiki Bar. I have never stayed in the hotel itself. Way back when, almost 20 years ago, my family and I started a tradition of coming to Ft. Myers beach every year and renting a house on the ocean, just a quick walk from Outrigger. This Tiki Bar is probably one of my earlier childhood memories, because we would walk down and get daiquiris (virgin for the kids, of course) and play on the beach. I recently, now 20 years later, got to come by and visit with my mom and grandparents. It hasn't changed a bit, in the best way. We sat at a small table right by the sand and were quickly served by the nicest waitress. We stayed for sunset, but February, even in Florida, can get a bit chilly. I was happy to see the bar was packed full of happy people the entire time we were there. If you are in the area, definitely stop by for a cold drink and some beach time at the Outrigger's Tiki Bar. I hope I can make it back before another 20 years has gone by! read more

This was supposed to be a vacation for my mother's birthday. We came here because of past nice experiences but never had such a bad experience at a motel. The first night out experience was less than pleasurable. We were hanging out by the tiki hut around 1pm when our group was told it was time to go to bed. RIDICULOUS, After back and forth with the employee she admitted we were fine to stay if we would keep it down. The next day we had the birthday planned. A wedding party was planned for the same Saturday, we stayed out of the way and did our best to not be intrusive. We came for our own vacation however and didn't care that we would be pushed to the corner of the motel as a result. At around 8pm the manager of the motel came to accuse us of underage drinking and asked to see our ID. These was our own drinks we had bought beforehand. The manager came with another employee who said " let me put it this way, if we have one more complaint we will have to ask you to go to your rooms." This was ridiculous, we were there to have a nice time and were not their to cause issues or bother anyone. There was no complaint except from an employee themselves who accused us of underaged drinking. We did not come on vacation to be belittled. The motel is not that well kept. It was overpriced for what we got and we were treated in a terrible way. We will never come back, this place was not worth the money. read more

I was very disappointed with the manager of this facility even more so than my complaint. She was very demeaning and spoke to me as if I wasn't an educated person....very belittling. She did that to my husband as well when we checked in. I feel sorry for anyone that works for or with her....We all deserve respect. I will never stay at this resort again. read more
