If I could give six stars, I would. Over the years, I've frequented boatloads of comic shops along the west coast and Outsider is truly my favorite. They have an enormous selection of comics, zines, graphic novels, and more. Looking for the latest premiere titles from DC / Marvel / Image / etc.? They got you. Looking for some hot new manga? They got you. Maybe you want some fresh, totally unique indie publication that none of your friends have heard of yet? They. Got. You. But their crazy-diverse selection isn't even what makes Outsider a truly great shop; it's their staff and the vibe they've created. Navigating geek culture can sometimes be a treacherous (gatekeeping and elitism abound). But not at Outsider. All geeks seem to be truly welcome: from hardcore fans, to casual readers, to absolute noobs looking for a place to begin exploring printed media, Outsider's staff will be there to help people find what they're looking for. You have to run your store in whatever way makes sense for you, of course. I came in and the clerk was super nice, asking me if I was looking for anything special. I wasn'y and just browsed and found a cool zine on horror movies. While I was there some friends of the clerk came in and they started shooting the breeze, but when another customer came in, the clerk was instantly focused on them whcih was really impressive. I did ask if they had a Daredevil, which is not really the focus of the shop, but the person working there was super cool and tried to help me find if they had a compilation. A cool place and a good experience going there. read more

This place is such a Seattle gem! The staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable, and every time I visit I find something new and cool. If you are into comics, or graphic novels, local art, or even just places that feel really good, this is the shop for you. They have a great selection of comics for everyone, and really fun recommendations and featured books. Also they sell cute clothes! My favorite moment here has been shopping for my comics obsessed niece- I gave the staff person some general info about my niece and their eyes lit up. They ran around the store making a big stack of options, and later at her birthday party the book I ended up picking for her was clearly a win. read more

Love this comic book store. Best comic book and geek store in the Pacific Northwest. Owner and operator went out of their way to help me search for a comic book I've been searching for a long time. This place is awesome! Sometimes comic book stores can be like a cave full of treasures, guarded by a gatekeeping person that is annoyed by newbies. But not in​ this place! This place is an open treasure chest with fantastic people working inside that want to help you find the perfect comic book/ nerd item/ etc. They are super LGBTQIA+ friendly (and more than supportive!), they have a special shelf with comic book packages for people that are just starting to read comic books and need a place to start (it's really hard to see through this universe!) and have so many more cool things to offer that I definitely need to come back and explore some more. What I have seen, next to the comic books itself, are geeky/nerdy themes clothing items (the dresses have pockets y'all!!), accessories, pins, games, and decorations. The location in Fremont is great, this way you're already in the middle of a fun neighborhood (lots of arcades and great food places around) and parking is fairly easy (and mostly free) if you don't come by bus. read more

Love. This. Store. Way more than just a "comics shop" - this place has a lot of comics and graphic novels, but also gaming supplies, clothing, comics-and-geek-related "stuff" from magnets to wallets to cards to whatever you can think of. I travel a lot and I make it a point to hit up local comic book stores. Outsider Comics is one of the best comic book stores I've ever been too! Most comic book stores are "male centered," and women for the most part are ignored. At Outsider Comics, There's no male or female, everyone's welcome and their store reflects that. From cool shirts to awesome comics and stickers, they have it all - including a fair amount of cute, "geek-centric" dresses (with pockets!) I tried to visit this store this past weekend with friend and a service dog in tow. We got turned away at the door because the clerk said no dogs allowed. We tried explaining that the dog was a service dog and it was unlawful to turn us away. The shop attendant came and stood in front of us refusing to allow us in saying the store owner had allergies and we weren't allowed to enter. Again tried to explain that it was a service dog and that you can't turn us away because they aren't pets, but she wouldn't budge. You can book an appointment for personal shopping on their website. The friendly staff is very knowledgeable and willing to guide newbies on their first collection. Or recommend new series and amazing independent works. Their amazingly unique collection is more akin to an interactive art museum rather than your standard "comic-book-guy" aloofness. The quaint interior accomplishes in one room what other comic stores strive for with an entire warehouse; and then some! In the center are stands and tables full of delightful trinkets and local artists. The broad window is lined with imaginative and unique dresses (a good amount with pockets!) and comfy knitwear. Next to that a great assortment of all types of comics. From big name publishers to relatively unknown houses. And capping the back of the store is perhaps one of the most diverse and inclusive collections of comics and graphic novels available. If you are looking to get a youngling interested in comics, or even just reading they have a fantastic little selection of children's comics. Along with a decent assortment of games for that impromptu game night. They periodically host events from book clubs to art & wine to gaming groups. And have an online store should you not be able to make it in person. I can only hope that a comic book store this unique and brilliant becomes the norm. This is a really cool store with awesome owners! My son and husband are more into comics than I am, so venturing to a comic book store can sometimes be boring for me. Not here! There was so much geeky goodness that I was constantly finding something else cool with each step that I took. Need a cool new dress, bag, earrings, necklace, sweater, socks, wallet, or scarf? Look no further. How about some help figuring out what to read? They have "beginner" comic book reader packs that you can buy so you can get a taste of your preferred genre. (Such a clever idea.) The location is great, right in the middle of downtown Fremont. I wish I had a bigger budget. I live close to Outsider and pass by it almost daily, and every time I want to stop by! I never know where to start with comics- it's kind of a nebulous world, but they do a fantastic job of helping you figure out what to pick up. Their pre-bundled starter packs are fantastic for anyone new to comics. I've also bought clothing there on occasion- I picked up my favorite infinity scarf, a dress I wore to a friend's wedding, and a slouchy beanie for a boyfriend. They support the LGBTQ+ community, and I am so, so happy they are in my neighborhood. I want them to thrive forever! read more

We love Outsider Comics! We rented out the small backroom for daughter's birthday party. They were so accommodating and wonderful. It's a small space but it was perfect for 10 kids playing emoji charades and some card and RP games for an hour before moving on to pizza next door. It was a huge hit. We stop by regularly. Was walking around Fremont with my very small, well-behaved hypoallergenic dog and decided to stop by for some post-Christmas shopping(since the vast majority of Fremont stores allow dogs). After taking about 2 steps inside, the employee came running out of the back room, yelling at us to get out. He acted like I had just came in and stolen something or had given him the finger (mind you there's no sign that says no dogs). If you don't want dogs in there fine, but there's absolutely no sense in being unnecessarily rude to a potential customer. read more

I love the skirt that I bought here, it's one of my favorite items in my closet now! The boutique offers really cute skirts and dresses (and other clothing) in unique and fun prints. I was just walking by the shop when their bright store display attracted me in. The inside of the store is so warm and welcoming, even for non comic "geeks" like myself. The owners were so helpful and nice with helping me find the right size for the skirt I wanted, definitely recommend you to swing by. I've driven by since Outsider opened and finally made it over today. I'm still kind of a comics newbie and have felt overwhelmed in other shops, but here I was able to find what I wanted (World of Wakanda) and then didn't feel awkward while I browsed. They have not just comics, but beautifully-made geeky clothes (a Carol Corps cardigan! Gryffindor sweaters! Rebel dresses!), games, pens, pins, and jewelry. Friendly and not overly-pushy staff, a changing room for the clothes, and just a really wonderfully-curated geek collection for the space. I love that this place doesn't have just the same bunch of comics you can find anywhere; I've discovered a few new favorites including Rat Queens. Definitely check out the staff picks. Always interesting and usually with one of the staff on hand to go into as much detail as you could want. Plus lots of other fun goodies. I had such a great time at this comic book store. They specialize in queer/lgbt comics (indicated by the rainbow flags) which is so cool! I came in and asked the person behind the desk to help me with their queer comic selection. She came right around and told me a personalized abstract of her favorite queer reads. This really helped me find what I was looking for and opened me to new comics I may not have picked up. read more

Was walking by last night and quickly popped into the store to ask a question. The woman who was working there (glasses and long hair) was..... let's just say not very friendly and really needs to work on her customer service skills. I asked a question and in the middle of my question she sharply cut me off rather than letting me finish and angrily said " I don't know". I chatted a little bit more and just wanted to chat and then asked another and then again...... rather than letting me finish she cut me off sharply and angrily stating "I don't know!" Wow! I don't think I have ever felt more unwelcome in a store in my entire life! In my personal opinion this person needs to be fired or get another job that does not involve customer service because this person clearly does not like customer service, customers or even their job. As I left the store in a terrified way I look back through the window and she just continued reading her book. Perhaps she doesn't want to work and hence the reason she would rather not have customers in the store. Terrible terrible first impression! read more
