I live in North Bend. I come here when I need to have keys made, because they always have the right key blanks, and the keys they cut work smoothly every time. Every. Time. You can get most keys cut at any hardware store, but they don't always work, meaning you have to come back and try again. And again. So I come here, and have for about twenty years. Great place where guys know what they do! It was such a fun story when I needed to duplicate a key for my box truck. This key was massive and special, it's not like any other sedan or SUV's key. So I spend the whole day looking around and driving to Home Depot's, other key services and nobody helped me. Only one guys told me the can do it within 7 days and it will cost about $70. Finally when I gave up, I just looked at my key and found "Overlake Keys" sign on the back of it. It was far from my home and I spend about an hour to drive there but it's ok, they charged me about 15$ for 3 copies and made it in 5 minutes, great job! read more

I bought a key blank for a 2011 Honda Pilot on Amazon for about $8 and took it here for "cutting". The plastic housing broken on the original, but still had the security electronics in tact. The good: He cut the key and it fit the car (with a little extra friction). The bad (not so bad): It is $38 + tax. I was hoping a lot less. Takes about 10 min or so for the setup and the machine to do its work. The other options: Not sure since I didn't call around locksmiths. The one Honda dealership that got back with me said they would charge $67 for up to 5 key cuts, but they had to be "genuine Honda" only. That would have been closer to $150 total if done at the dealership. I'd go back for a complicated key. read more

There is someone here who is super helpful and kind. There is another person who is not and I left unsatisfied. The guy didn't seem to believe me when I knew which type of key I wanted/needed. Anyways I asked for the metallic blue key and the guy says I can select the keys from "these/top three rows" or something like that and I asked for the metallic blue key at the top, doesn't even look he repeats "top three rows" I asked if I could get the metallic one he repeats it again.... (already WTF) so I chose one that I didn't really like, he makes it, I asked another employee (woman) if the metallic blue key would work for my key and she said yes... basically I got something I didn't want because of poor customer service. read more

Needed a new chipped key for a used car we had just purchased, dropped by at 4:30pm on a Sunday & the one oldish guy in there was able to get us a new functioning key in under 20 minutes. It was even cheaper than at a dealership. He wasn't overly friendly but he wasn't a jerk either, just very matter-of-fact & no nonsense which I really appreciate. read more

This place is a small shack in front of Fred Meyer, across from Amazon Grocery (Amazon Go type). When I went there, I didn't have to wait so that is a plus. The gentleman working there knew what he was doing and all my keys he made have been working perfectly. He made duplicates of office keys (Home Depot couldn't make duplicates of these and they refer me to here) and home keys. He said he can even duplicate the car keys I had and I might do that in the future. I went there on Saturday. He said working hours on that day were between nine and three. Price is affordable and there were key rings for sale too. I highly recommend this place. read more

Not a happy camper. I stopped today to have a copy made and when I got home and tried it, it was stuck in the lock and now I can't get it out. I am gone for a couple days but will stop by to see if they can get it out of the lock which I had to dismantle and take out of the door. If that is not possible, I will have to call a mobile locksmith and pay who knows how much to fix this situation. I am so unhappy I will not use this place again. read more

While I've been a satisfied customer in the very distant past (for some minor re-keying and duplicating services) this review is based on an experience today with some free advice. I have two keys for my Honda Civic (laser cut with integrated remote) and while the "good" key functions perfectly (physically in all keyholes), the "bad" one would not physically turn the lock either in the door or trunk, but still turned fine in the ignition. I dropped by Overlake Lock & Key and asked if they could cut a new key to replace my "bad" one. The gentleman I spoke to informed me that he was not set up to do my type of car key but also advised me to just lubricate my locks as this was a common known problem. I explained that the "good" key turns just fine in the locks and so there must be something wrong with the other key. He again patiently suggested that the locks probably just needed lubricating and that I could save myself a lot of money by trying that first. He explained that car locks should be lubricated on a regular basis. Needless to say I was very doubtful but thanked him. Once I got home I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. First I confirmed my good key still worked and the bad key still wouldn't budge. I then gave the door keyhole a quick shot of WD40 (not the best lock lubricant but it was what I had). At first it still didn't work but I did a little wiggling and suddenly the "bad" key slipped in a fraction of an inch further and worked! Tried the same with the trunk and got the same result! Now the "bad" key slips in fully and easily and works without any further fiddling and the "good" key still works as well. Still doesn't make total sense but bottom line is that the gentleman was right and I now owe him some future business (and this positive Yelp). read more

This place is great-- very honest in a business that can and will take advantage of you. I dropped my Hyundai keys down a storm drain (didn't have a spare). Called AAA who sent out a random locksmith. That person opened my car, but then went on to tell me it would cost $300 to make a new key (said it had a special chip in it, blah blah which my car doesn't have). Thought it was a scam, so called Hyundai, got the code to make a new key. Went to Overlake Lock & Key, and walked out with a set of new keys for under $15. Since then I have been here for numerous keys. They can do the unusual requests that at other places would charge you excessively. They are prompt, quick, and very knowledgable. My key to my 2005 scion tc broke and I bought a new one from amazon switched over all the internals from the keypad to the new one went here was in and out in 5 min with my key cut perfect. $6.50 charge and $5 for the key I'm not complaining at all! $200 at the scion dealership? Then he gave me a business card & told me to call him & he would send a locksmith to our home. If a can't be made at this locksmith location, then it looks like he just was trying to garner more money with the locksmith call and his referral fee. This is a great place to get keys made, I get all of my keys made here. It is way better than going somewhere else and having the key not work. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. I asked about making a key fob for my car, he took my number and gave it to a friend who makes them, they called me several times, telling me how much cheaper they were compared to dealers.... I told him I would think about it and to stop calling me. I will continue to get my keys made here, but won't be giving out my number anymore. read more

This guy referred me to some other guy who works out of his van to make Key Fobs. Apparently they work together. Well this van guy had my number and harassed me to agree to meeting him "anywhere" to make a spare key for my VW. He had a difficult time trying to program the key fob for my VW. He even complained about it to me. Somehow he got it done after an hour. I get in my car and start to drive off when I notice the airbag light is now on. I immediately pull over and let him know. So he goes back to my car, knowingly that it was his fault and tries to resolve it. Long story short he can't resolve it. So now I had a liability problem that my airbags might be deactivated. He didn't communicate to me at all with what he did. He just left it at that. I've tried to reach out to this guy and he keeps ignoring me. I've told him I'm going to a proper mechanic to get it resolved and that he will have to cover the cost and he ignores me. Now given the two operations are different. I feel they are the same. Key Fobs are advertised on Overlake Key and Lock's front door. So this guy just calls up the van guy when someone needs a car key. It's an unresolved situation I'm dealing with. This is fresh news. I'm not hopeful that they will pay the expense that I had to cover for their mistake. Oh, and to all you suckers looking for basic keys made. You can go in to Fred Meyer and pay 2 bucks for a cut key that works just fine. read more

Great for efficient and professionally done key cutting or duplicating. No automated machine, or those cheap machines you find in hardware/grocery stores. Every key that I have duplicated or cut here always works on the first try, never had to waste my time to redo a key, unlike my experiences with other providers. There are basic key accessories here, such as novelty keys, colored keys, key covers, lubricants, locksmith tools. I've even hired them to replace all of the door locks at my office building (given that I was project manager of the new building we're moving into). After emailing their field lock smith of what I was looking to do, he came by on-time to do a field inspection. I spent about an hour with him to discuss all of the door locks that needed replacing, new locks to be added and locks to be rekeyed. Most of the parts had to be ordered which took about a week. After another confirmation on the setup time, a locksmith showed up at my office building, and completed the entire job to quote and on schedule. I am very happy to recommend Overlake Lock and Key for key duplication or rekey office or residential buildings. read more

I went in to get a car key cut - I had bought the key from a web retailer. Overlake refused to cut my key instead asking me to buy the uncut "dealer supplied key" from him for $55. He said that the web bought key is made of a steel alloy rather than brass and hence will damage his machine. This excuse is being used more often at dealerships and some locksmiths to circumvent the low cost keys available on the web. These keys work fine according to hundreds of testimonies - something that Overlake tried to gloss over with technical garbage. In a pinch, I guess Overlake may be an option but I will not return to this place if I can help it. read more

RUDE, DISHONEST & TERRIBLE SERVICE. My problems with this business started when my neighbor called them because she'd lost her mailbox key. She didn't find the workman particularly pleasant, but after trying and failing to get her mailbox open he eventually drilled out and replaced the lock. Lo and behold, the next time I went to get my mail, my box (right below hers, so easily confused) won't open because something is jammed in the lock. I called out a top-rated locksmith on Yelp (who was responsive, polite and efficient), and he determined that there was a broken-off lock pick in my lock. He got it out for me. No other mailboxes were touched and mine is in the middle of the bank of boxes, so I don't buy this was a coincidence, plus my neighbor confirmed she was not present the whole time the work was being done. Now out $55 and with the broken lock pick as evidence, I called Overlake and asked for the manager or owner. The guy I spoke to was evasive, made a lot of excuses, but eventually told me he would pass my message to "Ali the accounting manager." I waited, but no call back from Ali. I called today, and Ali answered. When I started to explain why I was calling, he cut me off and insisted that he'd talked to the workman and it was not their fault (but of course never bothered to return my call). Ali was extremely rude, talking over me in a loud voice and making it almost impossible for me to get a word in edgewise. He did not have his facts straights (insisting that my neighbor had called because of a break-in attempt with a police report), and even after I corrected him, the conversation was pointless, as his only goal was to drown me out. Save yourself (and your innocent neighbors) the trouble and call a reputable company. read more

However, when he sees a guy he becomes so suspicious and start giving stupid executes. I went this morning to cut a new car key, and he gave me the excuse that car keys should be cut at the dealership and giving me the suspicious look. I didn't know they did service calls, but they do. Our deadbolt had broken and the key was spinning in the lock. I called on Monday and now at 10AM on a Tuesday our deadbolt is fixed. The guy in this little shack told me that all keys purchased from the internet (Yes, I'm sure he's done the legwork; keys from "The Internet" come from the same place) use a steel alloy which really "messes up their machines". He went on to say that these internet keys are not reliable and break frequently. Too bad I've been using an internet key for about 3 years and I knew this wasn't true. I was then offered the $85 Cheaper Than The Dealership bargain. I don't think so. Look, if you don't want to cut the key I brought you because there's no money in it, fine. I can accept that. I have been to Overlake Lock and Key many times in my years of living in and around Bellevue, and have always found them to be super helpful, and to have a huge variety of key blanks. Twice recently, they have saved friends of mine hundreds if not thousands of dollars simply by knowing their stuff, and having the odd parts needed, on hand. Yeow...I used to love going into Overlake Lock & Key...the man there was talkative, helpful and funny. Today, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, was a different story...I'm not sure if it was the same man at the counter but he was not the type of person who is looking for repeat business. He didn't like how I was carrying my keys, mumbled any replies (as if I was a bother to him), gave us outdated info, and, when he finally made my key, threw my change on the counter. My wife said they were better (easier to slide in, easier to turn) than the originals. I had to agree. Last week I locked myself outside the house, and I had to call up a locksmith. The first one came up to mind was this one right in front of Fred Meyer in Bellevue. Without calling other locksmith in a hurry, I paid $98 plus tax for the service. Later I checked the fee online was lot more cheaper, but not sure if this was a Sunday charge. read more

Great for getting your keys made. This is the kind of place that doesn't much exist anymore. A small mom'n'pop shop that hasn't been corporatized to death. Once I lost a small screw to my Lexus key. I knew that I wouldn't be able to replace that screw easily. I went in there and asked if they had any spares, and they did! The cost? "Just use us for your keys." Well yeah!
