Great, 'real' locksmith, Have had multiple "internet' key blanks (VW, Mitsubishi, Aprilia) cut there with no issue. Mind You these weren't the cheapo generic ones but OEM logo keys, or at least good knockoffs. read more

I had a difficult problem involving a home sliding patio door that could not have been fixed had it not been for his persistent investigation of where to find parts which ended his search in Kansas. The door, which was 15 yrs. old, originally came from Sweden and was not listed as such on my Seattle receipt at installation. Also, my receipt stated it had a lifetime warranty but when I tried to locate the business and installer neither one could be found. So much for lifetime warranties. Buyer beware and lesson learned. His goal was to save me $ which is nearly unheard of these days. He was knowledgeable, detailed, caring and made me feel important and confident that my problem was in the right hands. I am so grateful and will not only continue to give him my business but, will spread the word to as many as I can. I created my Yelp account just to provide my experience with this place, which seems to completely differ from the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I want to save a category of potential customers the wasted trip I made. Based upon the glowing reviews here, I drove far out of my way to this shop to find a quality cabinet-style cylinder lock -- a very common key & lock department item. They had one and only one choice. You know all of those 1-cent eBay products you can buy with $2.99 shipping? This item was lower than that level of quality. When I asked if they had anything else, they gave me a "why would you need anything else" response. When I told them, among other things, I was considering a "captive key" model, they had no idea at all what I was talking about. It's great that they've made keys for so many thrilled reviewers, but making keys does not equate to "locksmith". And before someone states that I was looking for a hyper-specialty item, please tell me where, if not a "locksmith", you would go for a desired lock. Again, I want to save others a trip if you need anything more than a key made. And for that service, I've never had a problem with the friendly old key maker at the nearest hardware store. read more

Dropped off a lock to get keys made for it. They call back in 2 hours saying it is done. Awesome, fast service.

horrible service, first time they berrated us for not having a key and second time they didn't show up at all; the front desk had us call their employee directly, who still did not answer or show up for an appointment made the previous day. Our business does NOT recommend them. read more

if this place work to go out of their establishment and do their work it would probably be okay but they do not go out on their selves they send inferior supposedly contractors to do the job I had to send the so-called locksmith to get it to work I would not recommend this place except for just making keys read more

I just had to have a locksmith come out because I locked my house key in my house. Very professional, quick and a great price. Be careful of some of the others out there. I must have called about 5 and they don't give a good estimate, more of a service fee and a range. So I called Overlake Lock & Key and they are the best. I can't recommend them more highly. I won't use this business again. To re-key our exterior doors, I took the cylinders from our deadbolts to Overlake Lock & Key. The man at the shop said that they couldn't be done in the shop because the were old, so we had to use a mobile locksmith. The mobile locksmith, Mr. Lee, arrived that evening, and I explained that the man in the shop said that the job couldn't be done there, and had to be done at our home. Mr. Lee, the mobile locksmith, said that that made no sense, that since we'd gone to the trouble to remove the cylinders ourselves, it could easily have been done at the store. Meanwhile, at that point the store was closed, so I felt I had little choice but to use the mobile locksmith. What should have been a $40-$50 job, thus, with the mobile locksmith's labor at our home came to over $250.00. Even though Mr. Lee was very nice and it was not his fault that the man in the shop pushed a more expensive service on us in this dishonest way, we will never go back to Overlake Lock & Key. read more

I have tried to come twice in the last two weeks, both times they had a sign that said they had an emergency. When will they be back open?

I wanted to upgrade my deadbolt and put on a new, more secure strike plate. I had a different locksmith come out who ripped me off, charging a fortune for messy work and average-quality parts. Then I called Overlake Lock and Key, and Bob came out and fixed all of the shoddy work, installing a proper strike box with the proper (long) screws, and re-installing the deadbolt with the parts the previous locksmith had left out. He was also patient, friendly, and showed me how everything was supposed to work (re-keying a lock), and charged me a fifth of what the other guy did. Highly recommended. read more

I just used them to re-key my front door lock. This lock has been re-keyed before by The Lockworks in Redmond and always worked smoothly. After Overlake keyed it however it stuck badly. Returning it they argued with me that I was "playing with it". When a contractor walked in and it stuck on him too their story changed, what started out as a lock they complimented me on as being a quality commercial lock suddenly they're telling me is old and worn out! It wasn't, in fact was working perfectly smoothly before they got their hands on it. I really just wanted the lock fixed correctly and told them that twice, but they had zero interest in even trying to do that. They did refund my money but the attitude that came across loud and clear was it is all my fault - even after a completely disinterested stranger walked in and demonstrated the same inability to make the lock work right! I've had keys duplicated there before and they are probably good if that is all you need, but I would never recommend using them for anything other than that. Without their super-convenient high-traffic location at Fred Meyer they would surely never stand a chance of staying in business with the service they showed me. Update: Two days later I took the same lock to Lockworks in Redmond. Told them the story, said if in your judgment the lock is worn lets replace it, otherwise re-key it. While I was there - not telling me to come back an hour later like Overlake did - he opened the lock and in maybe one minute showed me one pin was wrong. Then he let me watch as he used some tools to check each pin, explaining quite a lot to me about how locks work. Did you know those numbers stamped on the key tell a locksmith the sequence of pins? I do now thanks to him. He found not one but several problems with the work Overlake had done. Ten minutes later (about 45 min less than Overlake kept me waiting!) he had the lock re-keyed and working perfectly with four new keys. There absolutely is nothing wrong with my lock. 100% of my problems were the direct result of letting the hack at Overlake get his hands on it. read more

I own a business in Bellevue and we bought two Hon file cabinets and a Steelcase credenza without keys. We have to be able to lock them, so we called the local locksmith that was referred by our property manager. I explained exactly what I needed and she said no problem - the trip charge is $65 and each key will be $22.50, so $132.50. That seemed pretty expensive, so I called Overlake Lock and he asked for the codes on the locks. I gave him the stamped codes where the keys fit in the lock and he said, "I will have them ready for you in an hour. You can come pick them up" Total cost? $45. I just picked up the keys & they work perfectly. read more

Good people and good service. I have a euro ebike with an ignition. I needed a key that was not in stock. The owner was able to find a key that kinda fit in ignition and then customized it (cutting/snipping) and then it fit well enough. And then the owner thanked me for my patience. Really? Its a small shack outside of Fred Meyer. The locksmith working there is awesome (can't remember his name). I learned a lot about keys, history of them, the place, why a particular key cannot be duplicated and what can I do about it. Generally very nice and to the point conversation. Great service and knowledgeable staff! I went to the home depot to get a key cut and walked out when the staff there seemed less than knowledgeable about cutting keys. This place uses old equipment and expertise which is far superior to "lets place a key in an automated cutting machine and see if it works". Just went there today with my Husky Pro tool chest. Had misplaced the key during my move across the country and couldn't open it. They took like 10 minutes to fashion a new key for me that fits the lock. They even sprayed lubricant into the lock as it needed it and did the same to the locks on my car. These guys are really good but they are also very nice to their customers. I watched them interact with about 8 other customers while there and each one was treated the same. They do all kinds of keys too so you should come here for all of your key/lock needs! Thank you guys! You were awesome!!! read more
