Ox Yoke Inn is a fun dive bar just off the Luce Line trail in Maple Plain. There really is a massive ox yoke hanging above the bar! We had beers and the appetizer combo. This was perfect fried food for beers. It had onion rings, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles and mushrooms. I didn't try their burger but it looked really good. Service is very friendly. This place is worth stopping for a cold one. read more

Another bike ride with a great lunch after. We had a group of 12 and were served well. Many of the group come here just for the great patty melt. I decided to be different. I ordered the pork chop special with au gratin potatoes. The pork chop was 2" thick and very tasty. The au gratins were a very good side. It also came with a cup of clam chowder. The perfect spot for our bike crew to stop after a nice ride on the nearby Dakota Trail! The Patty Melt is my go-to entree here since getting hungry while biking the trail. The caraway bread is perfect with the two melted cheeses and burger. I always opt for the 1/3 pound burger since it's always enough for me (they also offer a 1/2 pound burger). When I went to Ox Yoke Inn, the service was fantastic. We arrived a couple of minutes before closing and asked the waitress if it was okay for us to still dine in. She reassured us that it was totally fine, even though we had a pretty big table, which was quite considerate of her. The waitress was very accommodating, and it was a blessing to eat there. We were taken to the Ox Yoke Inn by friends who have been there often. The place is considered an institution by folks in the far Western reaches of the Metro, and it's easy to understand why: It's the only restaurant around for miles (or so it seems in the dark); it's unassuming, homey, and very welcoming. All of that more than make up for the so-so food we had: The clam chowder was as thick as glue, with nice chunks of clam, and the grilled walleye had very little flavor. The baked potato was generous. I would return to the Ox Yoke Inn if in the Maple Plain area, but I would not consider the place a destination. read more

Local supper club along the Luce Line Trail makes it a 4 star stop. Maybe because I was starving from bicycle riding like 14 miles so far, but the food tasted great to me. This is not the fanciest of supper clubs, but it's proximity to the Luce Line a winner. Fresh taps of beers are limited in choices, but we were able to find a Castle Danger Cream Ale-the best thirst quencher on a long bike ride. My bestie had the Walleye Sandwich (which I only got a tiny sample since he gobbled it up so fast). I was more than happy with the 1/3 pound burger (they also offer 1/2 pounders), tons of mushrooms and not too much food for the long bike ride back. Bike racks on the side of the building. This spot will be on our next visit to the Luce Line: Good service & food. read more

I stopped in during the week a bit ago and was pleased to see that the place was busy despite having to block out tables and some seating. Had the Prime Rib (on a Thursday! who knew!), a couple of Bell's Two Hearted Ales, and it hit the spot. Their breaded chicken wings lived up to their reputation - crispy and delicious. Plenty of parking, pull tabs, specials, nice menu, plenty of servers. As far as the folks rating this place 2-3 stars, ya, well, sure if you compare it to a place like Birch's that is more updated, more expensive. Breakfast lunch and dinner. I have gone here since I was 14 years old and that was back in the 70's. Probably hasn't changed much inside since then but that's part of its charm. Food is generous and very tasty. I've been told their fish is the best around. I love their burgers and wraps. Try the fried pickles. Order your carrot cake to come before the meal, or go just for the carrot cake. Their Service is the best. Awesome destination for a motorcycle ride or a bicycle ride being right off the Luce line trail. Get there a little early because they are pretty busy. read more

Wow... Our experience here was awful on just about every level. The service was nearly non-existent (I had one glass of ice water that was gone a quarter of the way through the meal). We elected to try the family style (the sides came out in small dessert saucers) - the waitress was never around, so there was no refilling. My wife had the Walleye - large portion that tasted fishy and had quite a few bones; she left most of that large slab of fish sitting on the plate. I had the chicken and our boy the drumstick basket; he loves chicken and left his after one bite. I left mine as well - decent texture but no taste. Divey but good food! Out in the middle of nowhere but this place was packed on a Friday night. My bf & I try new foods and like to eat local, so we traipsed out here on the way out of town. We ordered their sample of frog legs, something neither of us had ever tried. Best way to describe them was walleye flavored chicken wings. Really mild, not much meat (evidently not bullfrogs) but good flavor. I then had the Reuben bites for dinner. Little balls of corned beef goodness. I hope this place was a hidden gem but it was just ok. I think I should have ordered the French dip. It didn't say it came with au jus but I saw some guy order it and he got a bowl of sauce to dip. I got a Cajun style burger and fries. The fries were not seasoned at all and were overdone. The burger was seasoned well and it was tasty but it seemed like a frozen patty. Was asked how I wanted it cooked and i said medium rare. It came out well done. Huge difference. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. Old local type restaurant and bar. Homey feeling with American fare. Know for their walleye dinner. Two of us had the walleye one fried and one grilled. Both were delicious, comes with a soup or salad and choice of potato. Son had the prime rib, was average, served on a metal dish, sitting in Au Jus. Fit the need as a hearty meal. I have been going here for about 20 years. Moved to within 2 miles. I want to like it but it is getting tough. Last time we went, I took the family visiting from Argentina. We did not go out to eat much when they were here, with 7 of us it gets expensive. For there last Saturday in MN we took them to Ox Yoke. They were busy, we were seated right away, got lucky a big table next to the kitchen and door, was open. There was a couple waiting, and I watched as they were neglected, for way too long. They wait for food was long, the burgers were good, the blue cheese burger is always good. When the bill came they had added a tip for themselves. You can't judge a book by its cover could not be more true, than in the case of the Ox Yolk Inn. After driving past this place hundreds of times, fearful of what might be inside, my family and I decided it was time to dine at the Inn. One word to sum up our experience; wonderful. My wife ordered the chicken Kiev; my daughter the rib combo. I ordered the T-bone steak; one of the best I have ever had, outside of a steakhouse. Everything tasted beyond fresh; the salad greens, meat, and chicken looked and tasted like they could have grown or raised on one of the farms surrounding the restaurant. Portions are plentiful and the Ox Yolk. Our meals came with a choice of soup or salad, dinner roll, and potato. In case that isn't enough, our salads were accompanied by a cracker basket; the likes I haven't seen since I left South Florida. Overall, we were very surprised by the quality and service at the Ox Yolk Inn. We will (and since have) be back to the Inn again. read more

The place was crowded, so I stopped on my way back from the client's office. I ordered a mushroom cheeseburger with tomato, no bun and a side of cole slaw. The burger came on a bun, no tomato, The burger itself was good, but the canned mushrooms really detracted from the taste. The cole slaw was a big bowl of dressing with some shredded cabbage. Went here for my birthday dinner to try the prime rib with my husband, mother and two kids. The prime rib was excellent and everyone loved their food. Our waitress was ok. My baby was in a high chair and fed himself, it got a little messy and another waitress walked by and literally yelled "are you kidding me!" While looking at our table. It really wasn't that bad and she made a huge deal about it and huffing and puffing while cleaning it and we offered to help. This same waitress about ran me over while walking in the restaurant because there wasn't room to walk between tables and I was in her way. Don't be fooled by your first view of the Ox Yoke. The inside maybe small and a little old but the food will surprise you. I have tried a few different things on the menu but the pork tenderloin sandwich was great, as well as the wraps. I have always chosen to have my meal with the sweet potato fries and have not been disappointed. The prices are on par for the type of food you get. It is probably not worth traveling miles out of your way for but if you are somewhat nearby, it is worth a try. read more
