What an awesome patio on Prior Lake. Love the large deck and covered patio seating near the bar too. This place is happening and they manage the traffic well. Charlie's offers elevated bar food. Everything we had was super yummy. Love the nice plastic cups for drinks too; nice touch! Service was quick, friendly and attentive. They have ample parking, either in their lot adjacent to the restaurant or right across the street in an overflow lot. We didn't go inside so can't report on that vibe. We had a wonderful lunch at Charlie's. From our initial valet experience, until the end, this is a great spot. Love that this is a family friendly spot and they were able to get us onto the top deck easily with a stroller. Love that it is on the water! Started with some drinks and the ahi crisps, both were wonderful. I tried an old fashion and it was wonderful. The Watermelon spicy margarita was also very good. LOVED LOVED the chicken tinga tacos, they were wonderful. Service could be slow at times, not sure if this is normal or not with the amount of guests, but service was good but I would not say great. Items were missed including waters when asked twice. Could have just been the day, not going to mark down on it. Seriously, this is a great local spot and I would definitely go again. We've made a tradition out of Charlie's on Prior. A big group of us rents a boat on Prior each Memorial Day weekend and our first stop is always Bloody Marys at Charlie's! Bonus: the fried pickle include with every bloody. The top deck patio is so lovely for brunch, and we usually return in the afternoon for post-boat drinks and snacks. Went here on a beautiful Sunday at 4:00 pm to beat the rush. Many tables were empty, yet patrons seated after us were getting service, no one came to our table even for a drink order. We had to ask someone to have a server come over. I ordered blackened walleye tacos. I order walleye wherever I am if it's on the menu. The walleye tasted fishy (not fresh? not washed properly?) and the pieces of walleye were, I'm not kidding, were smaller than a French fry. No taste in the slaw. Absolutely awful. The Blue Moon beer was served without an orange slice, and upon asking the server for one while I added, "They come with an orange slice so I didn't think I needed to ask for one." She said, "we're running low on oranges so we're only serving them if you ask." The beautiful view does not make up for the lousy food and service. read more

Charlie's on Prior -- Was there for a business meeting and lunch. It was excellent. The atmosphere was perfect for conversations, and the food was very good. Because we were there for lunch and business, we truly appreciated how quickly we were taken care of. We were greeted promptly, seated right away, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout. She brought refills without needing to ask, and we had an hour for lunch--we were served and finished in about 45 minutes. Well done. One more thing: when someone in our party asked for more tarter sauce, our waitress was busy at the moment. She came back without making a big deal of it, asked what we had requested, and promptly brought it to the table. We'll be back. read more

Great view and outdoor space on the lake, but way overpriced! Wife ordered a BLT for lunch during a neighborhood outing. Initially they got the order wrong and had to return it. So the Avacado BLT finally arrived as the rest of the group was mostly done. It was served on a plain / store bought bread, mostly mayonnaise, one small slice of bacon a single sliver of tomato, and a equally small sliver of avocado. We had a group of 6 at Charlie's for a bachelorette. Their patio area is gorgeous, with lots of tables & a nice view of the lake. We were able to change our reservation from inside to outside, which was great! Our server was awesome, super helpful & attentive. Our drinks arrived fairly quickly, with the food also coming out fast after ordering. I got a bloody Mary, which came with a deep fried pickle, so that was a fun surprise. It was tasty, without being spicy, but still having some good flavor. I also ordered a Veggie Skillet, which was fairly tasty; it had a TON of potatoes, which I don't mind, but it didn't have a ton of substance otherwise. The price was a little steep for what it was, & the watery veggies sort of drowned out any seasoning that would've been there. Cute spot for a celebration lunch or dinner. Great lakeside dining. Not really ideal for us for a weekday dinner or meals often based off the pricing. It's a bit on the high side for almost everything on the menu but I know it's local and they have good quality food. I'm sure the location increases pricing a bit too. I'd say it's a solid choice for a once-in-a-while spot and I wasn't disappointed with anything about the experience at Charlie's. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch--the girls love the Bloody Marys, especially with the deep-fried pickle! I went with the two-meat platter (brisket and pulled pork), which came with cornbread and two sides (fries and smashed red potatoes). The brisket had a nice smoke ring, was tender, and had great moisture. The pulled pork had good flavor but was a tad dry--not bad, just would've liked a little more moisture. The cornbread and fries were decent, but the smashed red potatoes stood out with a nice crisp and great flavor. The lady ordered the "Dirty Fries" from the app menu, which came loaded with fries, pulled pork, cheese, and queso--but they forgot the BBQ sauce. Even so, she enjoyed it. This is one of the better lakefront options in the twin cities metro. It's a short list, yes, and the quality-bar is pretty low -- you're not coming to Charlie's for an incredible culinary experience, you're coming for the view, the vibe, the music, the drinks...and then the food. That said, the food is pretty good. Try the lettuce wraps for something healthy. Burgers and fries are good and I've even had breakfast there and found it acceptable. If you're arriving by boat -- you'll find the dock helpers to be quick and ready for action and adequate parking is almost always available. You'll see a lot of local high schoolers working as waitstaff and on the dock as well. Love that! read more

Parking is near impossible, with a small lot and back-up lot. I'd recommend just circling until you see someone leaving, and then grab their spot. Outdoor seating available overlooking the lake is the only reason this spot retained some stars. Service was not good at all. We had a friend walk over to the table and the server actively reached over her to give us the bill device while we were talking to her. So rude, just trying to collect his check. Food was average but WAY overpriced. Appetizers pushed $20 each for a bar pretzel and a few slices of deep fried avocado? Not worth it! I had the walleye tacos, which were bland, underdressed, covered in generic slaw, and had the smallest little corn cake served on the side. A tap beer sets you back $10. Went here for dinner and really enjoyed it! I love how it's right on the lake and the inside decor is really quaint. The food selection in the upstairs restaurant is very large too, something for everyone on the menu!! It was hard deciding what to get, the staff and GM did a great job providing their feedback and thoughts towards the menu. I opted to go with the a side of broccoli and the Tuscany Chicken Pizza with Cauliflower crust. Yum!! Didn't take long to get the order delivered to my table and really enjoyed the fresh flavors. A great local spot in a beautiful area. High quality food at a great price! Friendly and helpful staff and such a fun vibe. The on line wait app was not working so we just showed up. Complementary Valet parking as you enter. A choice of ramp access or stairs to the restaurant. Friendly host staff with flashing disc to let you know when table is ready. We waited for a balcony lower table...15 minutes or so. Bistro tables outside too high, no backs and slippery seats. Double decker patio seating with umbrellas facing the lake. Beautiful homes bordering lake and a several dwarf stalls with bays for some stunning boats and pontoons. Entertaining view and peaceful. Nice extensive menu covering entrees, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and Hispanic dishes. Plenty of Walleye options. I had wedge salad $10 and Parmesan garlic shrimp $17. My daughter had mushroom burger. Food very good.. shrimp (8) in all came first then rest of food about five minutes later. Shrimp salty though. Food is ala carte and child friendly seating and menu. Burger was very good. Food took about 15-20 minutes. Something for everyone on the menu. Extensive liquor menu. Desserts such as cheesecake, mini donuts, ice cream. We live near this restaurant and go to Charlie's On Prior somewhat often. We really like their food, the only reason we don't go more often is that their pricing is on the high side. They did send out a $10 coupon off purchase of $50, which helps. I ordered a Rachel, which is not on the menu (they offer a Reuben), but they happily made it for me. It came with kettle chips or slaw. I love their kettle chips!!! It is made with a very generous portion of turkey. My husband ordered Fish and Chips which he said was really good. The portion size was generous and had a light batter. The fries had a seasoning on them, that neither of us loved, but our server said we could easily request them plain, as the seasoning is added after they are cooked. It came with coleslaw, which was so much better than it used to be. We sat at the bar and it wasn't very busy. Alexus, the bartender was attentive and took good care of us. Charlie's does have an awesome VIP program that is worth signing up for. Points are acquired quickly. read more

I'll admit it - I was maybe too excited to try Charlie's. The location is awesome (I was here once and had drinks at the outdoor bar on a beautiful day on the lake). I came back to try the food. The menu is intriguing with so many great options. Me being me - I had to try the cajun chicken pasta. I'm somewhat of a connoisseur of the dish. The fact that it has jalapeños made me even more excited, as I love spice. Also interesting - they throw a dallop of sour cream. Wasn't sure how to feel about that. Unfortunately, the meal didn't live up to my excitement. The dish is "off" in its noodle to chicken ratio. There was so much chicken, and it isn't julienned... It's sliced into slabs. I asked for it extra spicy too - which is my norm. The results... Not quite up to expectations. It wasn't very flavorful and I ran out of noodles with a plate full of chicken. I would try something different in the future even though cajun pasta is a go-to of mine. The positive - the service was great. Our server was very kind and engaging. The food came out quick. And the TVs all over made it easy to watch the Wild game. Also - the bang bang shrimp were great. They are huge in comparison to other places. I'm back. We keep visiting because of their location on the lake. We were in for brunch and bottomless mimosas and drinks. Once again, there were pricing issues. I was upcharged for a side that was an option (not to cost extra). We pointed it out but let it go. We moved to another section of the restaurant and it turns out we'd been given incorrect information (big surprise) about being able to continue the bottomless. But we learned this when the bartender yelled at my husband about it, instead of simply explaining the deal. I can't WAIT for another lake place to open up, so sick of this. read more

The hostess sat us at a table in the restaurant when all the window seats and booths were open. We asked to move so it was fine but like think about where people would want to sit maybe? Also our waitress was all smiley when she got to our table but the moment we asked about what was good, she seemed greatly annoyed, said the menu was big and it was too vague of a question. My mom asked if one of the entrees was spicy and she said well what is spicy to you? She reminded me of one of the mean popular girls from high school. I was surprisingly impressed! My friend and I went prior to fishing/boating season and had a quiet lunch. I am vegetarian. There wasn't a lot on the menu, however, our handsome server immediately offered a chance in a salad I wanted. He replaced chicken with a whole avocado and a few black beans. For example, I wanted the bang bang shrimp tacos but those were not available outside.
